put it in an old les paul custom. replaced a burstbucker alnico 5. huge difference. on slide, you really hear more string texture. regardless of full volume or half, you can hear the air as you play. it sounds like an old pickup. tried freebird (of course) & the ring was there. played thru a 100 watt lonestar. great amp. when you turn down, it looses treble response in a good way. it's not a muddy tone at all. the nuances are there.

turn up & play. i have other smits humbuckers, & all of them have worked out great. he will design his stuff with the balance you want. you get tone. makes your amps controls work better because you will hear the difference as you adjust them. he has a good reputation building, & plans on keeping it that way. tell him what you want, or explain what you want to hear, & he will advise you. also, your guitar's tone control responds better--you will want to use it at times--maybe not so much on the neck pickup, but with the treble pickups i have from him.

smits is good stuff. check his site out. he has plenty of pickups to choose from. you get toneful pickups, your playing feels smoother. prices are honest. built by a guy who can play & knows good tones. i've played for 27 years. have used duncans & dimarzios. they were good tones, but i like these smits. i got into a tone mood several years back, & started looking for something different. i hear it, & so do the others who have reviewed his stuff.
