staggered pole pieces

Instrument :
They went into the neck and middle position of a St. Blues Bluescaster (best guitar for the buck I ever bought!), replacing the stock. Is part of a HSS set with a Stan Hinesley Zen humbucker in the bridge (see separate review on that one)
The Saint blues pickups were not bad at all!! This is a real Blues machine! As I said, best guitar I ever bought for that kind of cash!
But I wanted a hotter tone, so I bought those and a custom made Tele harness from Stan.
All his work oozes love for perfection and is top crafted! No sloppy soldering on that set!
Stan got delayed on this too, but mailed me about it and the reasons, so no problem at all! These are difficult times for a lot of peoples, so better learn some patience and tolerance...

Sound : 10
The output is hotter than the stock, very different kind of animal!
The neck and middle sound VERY different and go together well!
Nice twangy tone in the cleans.
I play mainly Blues and rock and it's great for both.
I would not play metal with these...
The Guitar was great before and now it just went a step up! Very detailed and full of life tone, reacts great on the way you play, you can just form your tone perfectly as it has a huge dynamic range and a very sensitive response on all three pickups
Fat and smooth and very hot stratocaster tone in distortion, but also very nice twangy cleans, plenty of power and goes extremely well with the split and full Zen humbucker pup in the bridge...
It is nicely balanced from bass to treble for the kind of music I play.
This guitar will stay as is now! A real pleasure to play with!
I also own several Bare Knuckle Pickups and a pair of Lollar Imperials in other guitars and Stans pickups can keep it up in every way in my opinion, for far less money!

Overall Rating : 10
I would buy other Hinesley pickups without hesitation! The guy is very friendly and helpful, answers mail in time and keeps you informed about the process...
Well crafted stuff for a VERY reasonable price, good instructions, well packaged and delivered professionally, what could you ask more?
As I said I could compare these to Lollars and Bare Knuckles and they are in the same league.
I play for 30 years now and own several guitars, from cheapos to custom made, but I do not gig, just home and friends.

I am not a stratocaster player but I love the strat sound.
Next to my metal influences,
I like very much Blue Grass and players such as Albert Lee, Brent Mason...

Im interested in the LaGrange for that Texas tone and idealy I'd love a "telecaster" sound but my guitar has a pretty heavy rock config. I like also bluesy stuffs into ZZ Top style.
My guitar is a Mayone Setius gtm, a kinda heavy fusion super strat.
Im actually just looking for quality clean tones and a versatile guitar sound.
I was playing the Emg SA on neck position lately but it wasnt the apropriate pickup for my style despite it was a nice compromise in that time.

Sound : 10
I play the Lagrange on neck and middle position. I actually recommand to have the full set or at least a combo in order to take the most of their qualities.
I can get now some very cool tones. Great punch, good dynamics and twang feel.

I have been impressed how different both pickups sound unique from single to intermediate positions.
It feels like playing two different pickups and both are very good. The bluesy tones are warm and typicaly strat tones. They got outputs! They are indeed quite far from the strings and I can hear them singing! It is very inspiring to jam with those pickups. I feel I have the right pickup for the right tone. I try licks over differents switch positions to hear which one I like the best...

Overall Rating : 10
Again, Im not a genuine stratocaster player but I
I have so far only positive feedbacks about the Lagrange. It was shipped within one week to Finland in perfect condition. Superb and simple box with clear readable wiring instructions (whereas somes brands give a tiny paper or no instructions at all). Flawless gorgeous brand new pickup. I would not pick another else for the tone I need.

I installed Stan Hinesley LaGrange pickups in a Fender Highway One Strat body. I also purchased a SH1 Strat?? Harness from Stan Hinesley. The pickups that I replaced were the standard stock Fender Highway One Strat pickups. The reason I was changing the pickups is that I have been trying to achieve a SRV type sound closer than what Fender's Texas specials get you.

Sound : 7
These pickups are very powerful! Normally your pickups are set within 8/64" (3.6 mm)of the bass strings and 6/64" (2.4 mm)of the treble strings but I bet mine are more like a full half inch away from the strings.

I'm playing through a Fender Deluxe amp and I use an Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue modified to original specs, a Boss DD-20 Giga Delay, a Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe Pedal, a Vox V847A Wah Pedal and sometimes an octave pedal (can't remember who makes it, it is a custom job).

The tone before I lowered the pickups was sludge through mud! I emailed Stan and told him about it but he could not offer any help! So I tried lowering the pickups and the difference was extraordinary. The tone changed to a solid strat tone with a bit on the bassy side. I ordered flat poles as opposed to staggered poles as I have a 12" fretboard. I also believe that staggered do little to even out the sound. The flat poles work just fine!

The style of music I play is blues, rock and SRV Texas blues. These pickups when lowered to the correct height are OK for these styles of music.

Overall Rating : 7
If the guitar was stolen I think I might try someone else's pickups before going back to Stan. He took forever to get the pickups sent to me and when I got them the soldering looked hurried and sloppy. I actually had to email him for more wire as the connection from the harness to the plug didn't reach. I really think for the amount of money you spend on his pickups justifies greater attention to detail and professionalism.

I've been playing for 40 years.

I don't love or hate these pickups either way. I think that I spent too much money for these pickups and they aren't that special!

It's hard to compare pickups until they are actually in the instrument!

The sound is fairly close to Fender's Texas Specials so save yourself a bundle and buy the Fender's and avoid these!
