I installed this matched pair of B/N pickups into an Epiphone LP Goth Studio, replacing the factory ones (Alnico V's i believe). The factory pups were decent and did a good job for several years, they were hot and had some bite. However, i was looking for more... I wanted more clarity, crunch and versatility. After researching all kinds of pickups (SD, DiMarzio, Gibson, etc), I came across these Rockfields. The guitarist in a band I like uses them (Five Finger Death Punch), so i found them online. As soon as i heard the samples on their site I knew I had to try these out.

Sound : 9
I've had them for about 3 months now and I couldnt be happier with them. They gave me EXACTLY what i was hoping for. My paul has got some great crunch. Good bite, nice warmth... some would call it a "darker" crunch, but for what i was looking for it was right on.

the clarity of the pickups are fantastic. you can hear the individual notes ring... the chords truly come through, not just the distortion.

The clarity and crunch alone makes the Rockfields worth it. However, my fav aspect of them is their versatility. I got my LP coil tapped and that just opened up the sound so much! When tapped, you can find a mix of beautiful cleans... pure and warm to another setting that sounds like its acoustic. I couldnt be happier and my lead guitarist already wants to get a pair as well.

Overall Rating : 10
I would highly recommend these to anyone. for the price, unbeatable! but even if they doubled the price and they cost just as much as the big names, they would still be worth it. i have guitars with EMG's, DiMarzios and SD's... and while they are all good at what they do, these Rockfields are my new workhorses. Dont get me wrong, i'm not about to change out all my other ones.. my SD Distortions are great at what they do, so are my Gibson humbuckers. but these provide a whole new tone to compliment my others. Beautiful cleans, warm crunch with good bite. Unless youre a diehard active pup fan, i dont think these would let you down.

Features :
Zebra humbucker, 8.23 resistance.

Instrument :
I put this in the bridge position of an Ibanez SZ520 with a variable coil-tap and a Rothstein passive midrange control. I was replacing the stock pickup that had become microphonic.

Sound : 10
The output on this pickup isn't 'screaming' like some I've heard. It very nicely fills the role of the 'PAF' type of pickup. The tone is to die for... nice and creamy with tones of overtones and harmonics. It is a very organic sounding pickup, I am very, very happy with it. The highs aren't pronounced, but they are there, and there is good clarity across the board.

Overall Rating : 10
I would definitely replace this pickup if I had to, and I am buying Rockfield pickups for my other projects based on the sound of this one. The only thing that I didn't like was that the holes for the mounting screws were too small and had to be opened up a little. Minor issue that matters not at all. For the price you cannot go wrong.

the Rockfields are just a little hotter then stock but the SWV's are Warm and full range pickups with sustain for days My wife could here the diffance up stairs in our house. That is how clear these pickups are I have had this guitar for three years and it just come alive today . I play through a fender twin, classic rock & blues and man O man I would play double for these pickups. My epiphone sounds just as good as the 2500 dollar Gibson Les paul I played at the GC last week maybe even better they are great. My hat is off to Todd and his Pickups

Overall Rating : 10

Features :
attractive, shiny chrome covered humbuckers, passive, quoted resistances about 8kOhm

Instrument :
OE fitment in a 2007 BC Rich Special X Mockingbird, in both neck and bridge positions, but to different specifications for each position.

Sound : 10
These pickups have a well balanced level, powerful enough to drive an 80s valve Marshall (2205)into creamy overdrive, but not so powerful that you cant get a clean sound by backing off the guitar volume. On a clean channel/setting they're clean, overdriven they're soulfull and mellow, add a tube screamer or overdive to the chain and they scream with all the RIGHT harmonics. Add a delay/chorus/flanger to the mix and the range of sounds just keeps getting bigger and better.
The neck pickup is rounded but clear, mellow without being muddy .. and the bridge pickup is clear and bright but without being harsh, powerful but not so much that clean sounds don't happen.
The band I'm in plays a mix of pop/rock/metal, home sees a more varied mix, and so far, these pickups have suited everything I've tried them with. I probably won't be using them for the heavier stuff I play ( think Metallica and heavier ) but for everything else, they're just ideal.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 23 years, starting off as a wannabe shredder, took 4 years getting somewhere close, earned a living as a guitarist for a while, then decided to broaden my horizons. I'm not the best, but I'm no muppet.
All my other guitars (80s Charvel, strat, jackson dinky and another BC Rich Mocingbird right now) have high-output or active pickups in them, so I was expecting to be unhappy with the sound and the output - I'd already got a Jackson J90c lined up to go in the bridge position, but that's staying in my parts box now!
I got this Mockingbird because I wanted a guitar that sounded like a Les Paul that wasnt a Les Paul, just to be obstinately different! With the mahogany neck/body and maple top, and THESE pickups, that's exactly what I got. Right now, I couldn't be happier, I wouldn't change a thing, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend these pickups to anyone else wanting THAT sound.
I'm even thinking about replacing some of my 'distortion-class' pickups with other Rockfield product .. never thought I'd hear myself say that !

Sound : 9
Output level is well suited to the pickup, hot but not over the top.

Used with Line 6 PODxt Live, Line 6 Spider III 120 AMP, or direct-box to PA. I play with all different settings and effects, from high gain metal to low-gain with reverb/echo for blues.

Tone has great range and is well balanced, clear, vintage, great for classic metal/rock. Not the best for heavy metal but still a good clean sound that rings the notes clearly, prefer EMG81/85 for absolute shredding...

Mostly my performance playing style is classic metal/rock, however I play alot of blues for my own pleasure.

The pick seems very well suited to both neck and bridge positions. Definitely stands out as a neck pickup for metal leads etc.

Overall Rating : 10
The guitar I originally purchased with the pickups installed had to be returned due to warped neck and rising tongue (B.C. Rich Mock Special). After receiving my Schecter C-1 Blackjack, I plan to replace the Seymour Duncan '59 in the neck with the Rockfield SWV.

Somewhere around 5 years play time. Also own an Ibanez RG270, Alvarez Acoustic...

Love the tone, clear vintage distortion tones, clean PAF sound that is one of the best I have heard, better then my SD '59 neck.

Compared to Seymour Duncan JB, Gibson Burstbucker, tone is definitely of the quality of those high end names, chose due to price difference and prefered vintage sound.

This is "that" sound for me. It may not be for everyone but if you want a versatile vintage sound pickup for rock or blues, this pickup has to be on your list to try. I was blown away by a company I had never heard of.

All SWV pickups are hand wound and the difference is in the tone...
