Reason for pickup change: Well actually I didnt change pickups, I just thought I should make a submission and share my opinion of this pickup.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Medium, about the same as a gibson 490
Tone: Bright and Trebly
Sonic evaluation: Well I am referencing this against my other guitar, a gibsong SG standard with 490 series pickups. I think for clean tones this pickup is definately a great choice. The high frequences are squeaky clean and these pickups just have a sort of resonance to them... One thing they lack is that they just dont have the bite of my SG... Also the tone can get pretty harsh when using just bridge pickup, not warm like the SG.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Using only bridge pickup gives a very harsh trebly sound. Its also very difficult to get a good crunch from these pickups
Overall Rating
:
8
Comments: Overall, for a knockoff, these pickups sound great. In many ways they sound better than gibson 490's (which, in my opinion, is quite the accomplishment). My only problem is that these pickups can be so squeaky clean that they sort of lose personality... Or maybe thats just because I have fallen in love with that classic gibson tone.

Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Only slightly higher than the Rez single coils which was a nice surprise - mixes with the mid position well
Tone: Sparkling'searing - well defined - Jimmy Page on stick - superb blues/jazz/sabbath tone at the neck
Sonic evaluation:
I use various British valve amps and a Boss Dual Overdrive and no other effects and the Burns always sounding less than stunning with heavier rock settings - fantastic clean but I have other guitars for that and so I took into account the body weight and thickness of the Marquee and decided that it could handle the PAF's well and it sho does - my lord what a beast this guitar is now - Tokai make incredible instruments and these pickups are from one of their top of the line Japanese Loverocks - see reviews elsewhere - I now have the most versitile heart achingly toneful guitar that I've ever owned and the nickel covered pups look fantastic on this guitar Mr Burns you should look into this!
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: The pickups can handle every kind of music and I mean every kind -
