Features :
This is a "hybrid" magnet P90, with Alnico II and V magnets. I did not measure the impedences on the pickups, but they are not overly "hot".

Instrument :
Installed on a Korean epiphone 59 goldtop. I replaced the horrible stock P90's with these. The stock pickups were shrill sounding, just "ice picky". When I bought this guitar used, I knew I would be replacing the pickups anyways. I considered Fralin's or Lollar's, but the Tonerider price convinced me to give them a shot. I also replaced the wiring and pots with RS Guitarworks vintage kit for les paul, which I'm sure contributes to the improvement in sound.

Sound : 9
the output level is moderate, but not "hot" by any means. Lately I've been playing straight into a 5W version of a Plexi (guitaramplifierpcbs) which sounds incredible. The tone out of these pickups is exactly what I was hoping for...great clarity, growl, and midrange punch. For blues and classic rock, these pickups deliver. I find that I enjoy playing with both pickups selected. Also, the grit cleans up perfectly when the guitar volume is rolled off a little. Very balanced sound with excellent string definition.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 25+ years. I don't buy into the "historic" this or that, or custom shop BS. Find a good neck on a guitar, and put premium components on it and get the TONE you WANT. These pickups are great for the $, and I would definitely recommend them for an upgrade to stock P90's. I think the II/IV magnets allow this pickup a little more output while still maintaining clarity. too bad these are discontinued.

Features :
First of all, this review is not for a set, just the bridge pickup, because I installed it on a single-P-90 Les Paul. Pretty much built like the old P-90's, with the same kind of two-conductor braided wiring too, so it's not humbucking. Vintage type output...I wouldn't call it a "hot" pickup, but it's certainly not weak. Came with a black AND a cream cover, although it also fit an older Gibson cover I had lying around. "Hybrid" magnets..one alnico 2, one alnico 5.

Instrument :
Ok, get this; I replaced the Gibson P-90 that was in the bridge position of my Historic Gold Top. Yeah, that's right...the big expensive Historic P-90...yech!! This Tonerider was wayyy cheaper, looks good, fits well, and sounds literally more "vintage" than the stock pickup.

Sound : 9
There's a certain kind of bite, and clarity-with-balls that the good vintage P-90's have, and the Tonerider has it. I even switched back after a while just to compare, and the stock one sounded generic and somewhat flat to the Tonerider, so it came right back out for good. Unless I ever sell the guitar, in which case I'm keeping the Tonerider. The "hybrid" magnet set-up seems to be a good idea, as the tonal balance sounds very pleasing. My set-up is normally a MAZ 38 Dr.Z combo, Marshall 50W Plexi reissue, or blackface Deluxe Reverb, depending on the venue. Pedals are always a Budda Wah, Fulltone OCD, and a few Boss pedals (chorus, trem., delay). I play a variety of music, and also have Toneriders in a couple of other guitars. I'll rate this one notch below a total rave-up, only because there are a couple of things I haven't tried yet to compare it to (like, Lollars).

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I really like these pickups. I also have a Strat set, and a Tele model, and all seem solid and well-made...AND they sound good. In fact, Toneriders kind of make you wonder why some of the others cost so much. I don't really have any complaints here... tone IS subjective, but I think the homepage descriptions are actually pretty accurate. The price is sooo right!

Features :
Single coil P-90 style, Hybrid Alnico II/V magnets, 8.0K impedence.

Instrument :
69' Telecaster Thinline re-issue. Replacement for wimpy neck pickup.

Sound : 10
For me, this upgrade is the most desirable and versatile upgrade for the tele neck pickup. Plenty of punch and pristine clarity when wide open for scorching blues solos, and smooth and articulate when turned down.
Have got it screwed down real low in to the body, just about 3mm higher than the scratchplate. Still plenty of response in this position.
Works very well with both my rigs; Mesa Boogie MK3 and Roland Jazz Chorus 120.

Overall Rating : 10
Very happy with the sound improvement and overall tone. It is just what I was after!
I had initially heard P-90's on a friends Fender TC-90 and was impressed with the verstile tones available.
I also have a Les Paul Goldtop that I would now consider replacing the neck pickup with a P-90.

Features :
Toneriders Hybrid 90's P-90 single coil with dual alnico magnets. One Alnico II and one Alnico V bar. Braided wire and cream covers in my case. Mountin is direct into wood.

Neck: 8,0 Ohm
Bridge: 8,5 Ohm

Cream or black covers.

Instrument :
I installed these pickups in to Squier Tele Custom II in place of Duncan Designed p-90s. First of all I wanted more pristine p-90s tone wich Duncans didn't provide becouse they are hotter. At first I was very confused becouse it was something completely different. Very high output in the neck pickup so I had to screw it all the way down. Bridge pup is mean and punchy while the neck has that JAZZ tone allover when clean. The neck pup does not love gain to much and even bridge is kinda howly but you need to set EQ middle low to lose that. When this is done the pickups will reveal the true face. Punchy and gritty with clean/OD and sharp but clear with distortion. Here is obvious why they put two types of magnets in to one pup. Roll back the volume and your guitar gets cleaner. It's very close to vintage
P-90's that way. Open it up and it screams modern too.

Sound : 10
Neck output will confuse you at first. But it's common to set the neck P-90 very very low. Don't go to low becouse you will loose the response. Set bridge high as possible. My amp is Fender SF Twin Reverb 1979 with Eminence GB12 speakers. Pedals are Hughes and Kettner Tube Factor and TS808 clone. Tone is fat, punchy but clear while clean and with a lot of real grit with OD. I play punk rock, rock'n'roll and blues. Good for blues and rock'n'roll but for heavy stuff pick your pedals to match the pups and amp.

Overall Rating : 10
I use cheap guitars with good playability and then I replace the pups. Toneriders are in all my guitars and I'd buy more.....as soon as I get new guitars. I'm playing for 15 years and I've never had a P-90 guitar before I bought the Squier Tele Custom II. The Hybrid90's are just superior to the Duncan Designed p-90s. I love the quality componets they use in all their pickups. The same as ''boutique'' pup builders for much less money and 98% of their quality. I must thank A.C. especially here for very very good custumer relations. Keep on the great work!!!!!

Features :
single coil passive pickup.

Instrument :
pickups are installed into my epiphone lp, in both the neck and bridge position. the H90's replaced the standard epi humbuckers. i changed to these pickups because i always loved the sound of P90's, tonerider reckons these H90's are the upgrade so i thought i'd give em a go.. what a great sound!!!

Sound : 10
output level on these pickups is great, volume rolled back gives a great clean sound, volume rolled up gives a nice dirty sound but still retains heaps of clarity... i play a lot of rock music, bit of country, and some blues too, these pickups sound the part for all three of those styles..

Overall Rating : 10
what i love about these pickups is the ease of use, even the most basic guitarist could get a decent sound out of these...10/10
