The pickup is passive with a single blade.
Instrument

My Thorell Frank Vignola Premier came with the pickup. It's in the neck position, suspended from the pickguard. It's designed to be "a handwound De'Armond reproduction" - a prized, vintage pickup - and it looks sharp.

The guitar is played through a tube amp with 6L6s and a 12" speaker. It's played in Guitar Craft style (Robert Fripp) which is mostly single picked notes often played fast and in the New Standard Tuning (C G D A E G, low to high). This tuning is tough on guitars - the low C gets muddy, the high G gets thin, and the A string sticks out like a sore thumb. Not with the Vintage Vibe Guitars Custom Suspended, though. The sound is warm, acoustic, smooth, and balanced - but I can get an edge on the sound if I want.

If it was destroyed, I'd buy the pickup again. It allows me to get a warm tone without that deadly (to me) jazz thump. It's got a bit of buzzing but it's not a problem.
