Reason for pickup change: needed a more authentic sound. Stock P-100 though maybe good for jazz and some mellow blues just didn't have that P-90 edge that I grew up on. Hey I know it's a electric-acoustic but I new I could do better.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: A bit more than a stock P-100
Tone: Very balanced. This pickup is a new model that you can interchange magnets from alnico to ceramic. Very nice when your trying to nail down your tone.
Sonic evaluation: I'm using a nicely modded tweed Fender Hot-Rod Deluxe with a new Celestion Century 12" (Very loud sweet, and clean) So I needed a pickup that would have an authentic vintage sound complete with that bark and distortion at saturation. I had to look no further than this baby. This badboy is just dripping with tone. I my case the alnico seemed to just synergize with my Gibson hollowbody. Midrange to die for with a sweet topend and the bottom was mellow and not at all boomy like my P-100. My J160 is one of the best souding guitars i've ever played and that includes E-335's and Gretsches. Great tech help from Peter as well. This pickup gets my highest recommendation! Another big plus is that it is also so well shielded that it was almost as quiet as the humbucking it replaced. Nice job Peter!
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: With the ability to swap ceramics for alnicos I believe this pickup will suit just about any style.

Comments: If this were detroyed or stolen I would not hesitate to get another in a heartbeat!
Give this one a shot, it's the best of both worlds.
One note: For the J160-E only, you'll wanna swap out your
P-100 (longer) adjustable posts due to the reverse mounting depth.
