Perceived output level: Unsure how to compare, but perfect for my purposes, which is to get beautiful brown sound
Tone: balance
Sonic evaluation: 1996 strat, vintage vibe pickups and assembly, into pedalboard via GeorgeL cable - pedal has all true bypass boutique pedals (Fulltone wah, OCD, fulldrive 2, trem, Analogman Chorus, Peterson Strobostomp). Signal then goes to handmade, point to point wired deluxe circuit head or 18watt head (www.claraamps.com), then into handmade cabinet with eminence Cannabis Rex speaker.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Rock and roll, blues, have to be able to dance to it

Comments: I have 2 sets of these pickups - I ordered 1 from Pete and bought another strat that had them in. I was amazed after I bought the strat and took the guard off to change it - the pickups and circuit were cloth wired, high end pots, and the pickups were quite different, in that they looked, well, quite different - hard to explain. Anyhow, when I plugged it in, it sounded great, better than any other strat on the wall. The guy who sold it to me had it priced $100 higher than his other used strats. When I asked him why, he said this one just sounded better. Now we know why ! I have 2 sets, and will continue to replace pickups any and all pickups, and recommend them to anybody. Prompt shipping, prompt email responses, just overall nice guy !

Reason for pickup change: Building a "dream strat", I looked around, VVG looked like a great outfit and I am a risk taker (otherwsie known as "Road less travelled".

Comments: Build qaulity, attention to detail and parts used is exemplary. Pete clearly puts passion into his work. Even use of high quality wire in specific guages and specific types is evident (I have a good understanding of wire for audio uses). Top end pots and a VERY well made (German made I think)5-way selector clearly beat run-of-the-mill parts. For the dollar, I find it very hard to beleive you could find a better pickguard assembly, pre-wired with quality parts such as this. A true 10+ in quality, build quality and very high attention to ALL details....
I should also mention Pete build my order fast and provided me plenty of personalized attention in my choices. My vote is check out Pete Bitloft's Vintage Vibe pickups/assemblies before he gets too popular. A stellar bargain. Check out his site at: http://www.vintagevibeguitars.com/
