Pickup being replaced: Fender Custom Shop Texas Tele
Other pickups on guitar: Seymour Duncan Broadcaster (old 8.2Kohm)
Artists using this pickup: Me
You musical style(s): Rhythm and blues, funk, country
Reason for pickup change: The Texas Tele was muddy sounding and didn't sound good when combined in the middle switch position.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Reasonable...maybe slightly hotter than a true vintage pickup
Tone: Well rounded and clear sounding. Plenty of bass but with nice definition and clarity.
Sonic evaluation: Various all tube classic amps (Deluxe Reverb, Marshall, Tweed Fender, etc). This pickup has a really nice classic tone. It sounds great for rhythm stuff as well as bluesy soloing. When combined with the bridge pickup it sounds fantastic too.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: It's a great match for classic rock, country, funk, R&B, and even Jazz (w/ the treble rolled back)
Overall Rating

Comments: I'd definitely buy this pickup again. The pickup is a great value considering the high quality and low price. The purchase experience was great too due to the fast shipping, personal customer service, and quality of the product.

Perceived output level: These pickups sound incredible. The bridge is clear and well defined with no trebly harshness. The neck is amazingly responsive. It has nice bell like tones in the higher registers and great bass thump in the lowers.

Comments: I play mostly blues and these pups are perfect. Before I ordered these pups I was considering some Fralins, and I was a little aprehensive about ordering pups based only upon reviews here on HC. Man, I'm glad I did! I had a good feeling about them right after I received them(1 business day after I ordered them), The quality and packaging of the pups is incredible. Then I installed them and have only stopped playing to write this review(the least I can do after the price I paid). First of all I was hoping these pups would at least sound as good as my USA Tele. These pups make that tele sound like garbage and theyr'e in a MIM Tele! I'm most definitely going to be buying more pups for my Strat and other Tele from Pete (before people catch on and the price goes up). People looking at other boutique pups should really have a look at these before shelling out major cash and waiting several months to get their pups!

Mesa-boogie Mk 4.Pickups thru' this go "ballistic".Tone to drool over.

Comments: Can't fault these pickups. They make a standard MIM Telecaster sound like Steve Cropper is playing it.The best value for money I have encountered. My search for that elusive "vintage" sound stops here.Beats my pal's custom shop tele "hands down".I have also a '67 335,and a custom shop strat (relic).Vintage vibe pickups are just as good as the pickups in these top of the range instruments.

Features
:
Pickup features: Single coils, passive, just like stock.
Impedence or other specs: Same as vintage telecaster
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Made in Mexico 2002 telecaster
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: stock
Other pickups on guitar: none
Artists using this pickup: None I know
You musical style(s): rock and roll and country
Reason for pickup change: Factory pickups had a problem, they would crackle with the first signal coming through, so I figured I would upgrade while I was fixing my problem and it seemed more convenient than trying to access my warranty because I could not find my receipt. My 3rd string also seemed too loud and harsh on the original pickups. They had a good sound, but I recorded a song and the 3rd string was loud and harsh on the original pickups.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: They were wound for vintage normal output level. He put a 5 way switch on there with2 new pickup combos, one position 2 is way loud and position 4 is lower and tinny. Both are cool, but the volume on posiiton 2 is way loud
Tone: Balanced, crystalline highs. Sounds like the best tele you've ever heard, but still a tele all the way.
Sonic evaluation: Fender MIM tele, fender vibro champ, Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Marshall JCM 900 combo. It sounds really great, Pete installed them too and the grouding is immaculate, there is virtually no difference when I have my hand on the strings and when I don't. This 5-position switch has a "Humbucker out of phase" position (position 2) and like I said it is louder (except when overdriven, it does not seem to make as much difference as when clean.) But for those of you who have hed a tele with humbuckers, you know it retains alot of the tele characteristics, because a tele body influences the sound so much (in my experience.) They sound really good in the standard positions and with the tone turned down, they sound fantastic also. I really stumbled on to a winner with Pete. He installed my pickups for no extra charge, and even made some adjustments to the setup. I am proud to have his pickups in my guitar, they don't sound "aftermarket" they really sound like a great tele.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: With this guitar I play rock and roll, country and sometimes accompany acoustic guitar with a more "songwriting" oriented folky style. It just sounds great, and I can get a good twang without unbalanced volume problems or the harshness that was ruining the sound of my former pickups.

Comments: I hope I get a chance to work with Pete again. He didn't charge me hardly anything and he really improved my guitar, and I would not trade that tele for anything. I asked him to make me a P-Bass pickup and I should get it soon, but unfortuanately, I am very happy with the electronics in my other guitars, so I do not know when I will need him again! He seems busy, but he did both my jobs immediately although he set the expectation that it might take longer. I have been playing for 20 years (since I was 12) and I am a fiend for tone in that I won't stop until I find it. I am very impressed with this tele's sound, and the pickups were awfully cheap for what they are. I am completely satisfied. Thanks Pete!

Pickup features: Single coil
Impedence or other specs: Ask Pete, makes them how you want
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: 52 Telecaster Clone
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Stockers
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Blues, Classic Rock, Dieselbilly
Reason for pickup change: Stock pickups were horrible as would be expected. Bridge was ok for bite but too brittle, Neck was just pure mud.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Not too hot, but gives enough to put a good tube amp into overdrive with clarity
Tone: These are well balanced and clear just a good tele should sound
Sonic evaluation: Using classic tube amps from Fender, and a bastardized Marshall style clone. These pickups are very clear and cutting no matter what amp i have tried. Vintage sounding with the bite I needed. They are very sensitive and responsive to pick attack, etc. Pickups will really respond to your individual technique. I'm a die hard tube "Tone Snob" so I don't know how these would sound with a solid state amp. I think anyone interested will be using a good tube amp anyway.
Like all great equipment in the signal chain they will enhance your good playing technique, and expose your weakness, but that's why I like them. No mercy!! They will really light up your sound if your other equipment is up to it. I prefer to go direct using a super high quality cable into the amp, no funny effects to screw with things. I did try using my favorite clean boost pedal (Fulltone Fat Boost) and it only gets fatter with this, all sounds still comes through nicely.
The one thing you would notice right away is how quiet these are, jees I don't know how he does it. Pete has put the effort to make these right. I have played through other aftermarket Tele pickups Fender, SD, and Fralins, some are quite good, but these seem to be better built, and you can have them made your way. That's hard to beat.
You can see the materials Pete used in construction are of the highest quality, no mass production margin worries here.
Pickups were wired using a "Deaf Eddie" 5 way switch method. I love 4 of the 5 tones available. (1) Neck only, (2) Neck and Bridge Series (Think LP with bite) (3) Standard Tele. The 4th position "HyperTele" Neck and Bridge out of phase is just a little too much for me but others may like it fine. (5) Bridge only.
I can't wait to hear these in a DR Z or Carr amp!!
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I don't think these would be good for metal etc, but great for country, blues, rock.

Comments: Been playing off and on for 30 years, have gone throuh lots of gear. These have to be at least in the top 2% of super high quality pickups, I'm sure there are other individual guys making great stuff I just have not been exposed to them. Pete is a very easy person to deal with, and I love his attention to detail. I get the feeling Pete is one of those guys who can make any freaking thing on the planet. You have to love the fact that he took the time to do it right, not compromise for cost control. I will always prefer to purchase from someone like this.
I'm looking forward to getting some P90's done for another rig
