Features :
Pickup features: passive single coil
Impedence or other specs: 14K ohms

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: 1984 U.S. Telecaster
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: original Tele pickup
Other pickups on guitar: Custom-made Wolfetone Cub (neck p/u)
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Jazz, blues-rock
Reason for pickup change: I love the Tele sound but already have a Nasville tele. I was looking for a pickup with more of a P-90 sound with more output. Wolfe did a fantastic job of creating a pickup based on a verbal description of what I wanted.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: This pickup has a good deal more power than the stock tele bridge p/u but is not distorted or muddy when you need a clean tone, like many "hot" pickups. There is plenty of bite available if you want it. This one cranks up beautifully with a little amp distortion and maintains its clarity even at high gain settings.
Tone: The tone is magnificent if you like a P-90 sound...well-balanced with more midrange.
Sonic evaluation: I play my Tele through a Peavey Delta Blues amp with a 15" speaker. This pickup sounds great without any boost or preamp gain added. Its so easy to get a usable sound it's ridiculous. Before the switch I hardly ever used just the bridge pickup, now it's a favorite. The combination of the Wolfetone Bitch and the neck position Cub I had made are like blues heaven!

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play mostly blues based rock and jazz styles. When you crank it up, this pickup rocks ...think of the sounds of Jimmy Page, Keith Richards and Mick Ronson and you'll have some idea of how full-sounding this pickup is.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: If stolen I would probably, hunt the thief to the ends of the earth, then I remember Wolfe probably keeps some notes on the custom orders he makes and I feel better. It was a pleasure dealing with this fine craftsman- he was willing to do just about anything to ensure he got the sound I wanted...and this was on a pair of pickups I got at auction and paid about half price on!!! I've been playing guitar for over thirty years and own six other electrics in the $300-500 range. Why would anybody buy a stock pickup when you can have one tailored to your playing style? I will definitely choose Wolfetone when I upgrade my next axe.
