Model of guitar or bass: Yamaha RGX112

Pickup being replaced: stock yamaha humbucker
Other pickups on guitar: two stock sc's
Artists using this pickup: me, thats it.
You musical style(s): eclectic rock
Reason for pickup change: pure whim! let me explain the pickup now, its was a broken old PRS Dragon I bought for 10 bucks, and I had Wolfe Macleod rewind/rebuild it to be very hot, using 46 gauge wire and 3 ceramic magnets, and i dubbed it "The Beast".
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: pretty intense, but perhaps not as much as expected. still very hot (24K!)
Tone: surprisingly clear, leaning to the treble end of the spectrum
Sonic evaluation: running this guitar into a Marshall Valvestate amp I can get some pretty good distortion tones. this pickup wasnt built for clean...it sounds a little "stale" that way, but on the distortion channel, it has the power you need. basically this is my little venture into heavy metal music. its a great "hot" tone pickup.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: this is only a specialty instrument, as im not a heavy metal guitarist. its mainly for that style.
Overall Rating
:
9
Comments: Wolfe does a great job, and his customer service is unparalleled. this rewind was actually a side project to another job, a rewind of two Gibson humbuckers. see that review for more praise ;). this pickup doesnt mean that much to me as it is not in one of my main guitars, but it has rejuvenated my interest in the instrument, and somewhat put it on par with the others in terms of sound quality. Wolfe gave me exactly what i asked for, and more. 24K of output? really...
