George Alessandro has a new line of amps called Working Dogs. They are available NOW. I have borrowed a prototype WD 2X12 combo with 6L6s for the past two months. The amp is single channel, 6L6 power tubes with Jensen re-issue P12Rs (I believe). Features include input, jangly/creamy switch, volume, reverb, treble, middle, bass, final output control, standby and on/off. I like an amp that is simple to dial in great tones without having to tweak knobs forever and this amp does it. Oh, and the combo is VERY lightweight, which is a definite plus.

The prices for these amps is to be in the $1,000 - $1,500 range. You'll be getting that classic Alessandro sound quality, now at a much lower price point.

Sound Quality : 9
I play rock and blues music, primarily at home. I play a variety of guitars includign Terry C. McInturff, Hamer and Gibson with all style pickups (humbuckers, P90s and single coils). The amp seems to enjoy all varieties.

The reason I decided to buy Alessandro/Working Dogs is because of their sounds. The clean sound is simply fantastic, the best I ever heard (and that applies to both the WD and George's high end amplifiers). And when you turn up the volume, the gain comes in very nicely allowing for all notes to be heard distinctly. I definitely don't like amps that get all mushy when the gain is increased. The amps sound great no matter where the amp volume is set. And just roll off the guitar volume and the sound cleans up very nicely. The "jangly" setting allows for more treble sounds for more modern/gain sounds. While the creamy setting allows for less treble, and more smoother overdrive ala Cream and Zep. Oh yeah, the amp is plenty loud, even with the final output control set to 50%.

My only gripe is that the Jensen P12Rs did get a little mushy when the amp was cranked. I talked with George about this and he indicated that he was going to use a heavier speaker (maybe a Jensen P12N) in the production version. George also mentioned that the 2X12 AND 2X8 version (yes that is four speakers) produces excellent results.

Reliability : 10
George stands by his amps. I have had no problems with any of his amps so far, but I have complete faith that he will correct any problems that may arise. He is very knowledgeable and is completely fanatical about building the best sounding amp on the market. I don't play out, so a back up for the gig is not required. I do now own two Alessandro amps which I both love. And I do own 2-3 other amps (Fender, Dr Z and Trace Eliott) just to get a different voice every now and then, although the Alessandro will be my first choice.

Customer Support : 10
I have not needed to call on George to repair anything thus far. George uses all specially built components for his amps and he is always a phone call away.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing now for 15+ years, mostly as a hobby. I have been continually searching for MY best sound and I now have found it. George's amps are perfect for my situation at home and I plan to use them out once I get the courage to make that step.

The Working Dogs are available in 6L6 and 6V6 versions with a variety of speaker combinations. George deals direct with each customer, so call him to inquire what specifically suits your needs. I am considering a 4X10 (or 2X12 AND 2X8) 6V6 version amp next.
