Amp was made in 2009. Got a laugh out of the serial ### actually. Says "MIA" lol.
The amp is quite versatile in the styles I play, and in the ones I don't. You can get pretty much whatever sound you need out of these beast of a machine. I play rock, hard rock and some metal. It working pro for all 3. I don't know about huge NU or death metal tones.. but it sits in with the best of them. Single channel amp. Effects loop. Bright, Bass and resonance switch. Wish it had some sort of footswitchable channel from clean to OD. But it's a single channel amp... all you can do it turn down the volume on your guitar. I use the amp in my bedroom for right now. The thing has an emence amount of power... I can set it on 2 on the dial... anymore and I have to wear ear plugs or be in the other room
100 watt tube amp. Single Channel that will tear your ****** head off with volume and its tone.

I use an SG, LP style ESP, and a PRS SE Custom. Stock pickups in them all. Suits my style of music very well. It can be noisy when your up close to it. Other than that... you do get alot of buzzing when the gain is maxed. No real harmonic feedback though. Amp can do pretty much whatever you want. The clean channel or "lo output jack channel" is alright. Can get a nice crisp clean. Also some blues OD type. You can overdrive the cleans at higher volumes... maybe at 4-5 on the dial. Distortion is quite brutalz. Not huge death metal brutalz... but it's quite good lol.

Ive only had this thing for a month.... but I would use this at a gig, night after night if I was in a band. Solid as a rock (at 53 pounds). Never broken down. It should anyway.. it's a Laney, made in the UK lol. But even if it does. has a 3-5 year warranty.

Never dealt with them yet. And I expect I wont have to for a long time. Laney is the ****!. No repairs or replacement parts or anything has been done to the amp. 2-3-5 year warranty I am guessing. It didn't come with a warranty card oddly..

Been playing for 5 years. Only other amp I own is a peavey valveking 1x12 and also a little crate practice amp. If it were lost or stolen.. I would buy another, just cause of the tone to dollar ratio. Awesome amp. I like the simplicity of the single channel... but I also kind of dislike it. I wish it had some sort of clean channel by itself. But then again.. it is the Tony Iommi signature amp. Made for metal. I didn't do a sound comparison on it cause no one suplies Laney in town here. But when I was making my choice for an amp... I was looking at a Hughes & Kettner Switchblade... and this Laney GH100TI. I wanted just simple amp.. for an AC/DC, judas priest type hard rock tone. So I chose the Laney :) and it was a good one. Though if I might add to the people reading this. The Hughes & Kettner Triamp and switchblade are both awesome amps. Great chunky tone.

this amp is a Metal Tone Machine !
it took several hours of tweaking , but i dialed in "my" killer tone and couldnt be happier.
if you are looking for multi channel versatility , look elswhere ..
BUT if you are looking for a single channel , high gain Metal Machine then the Laney GH100TI is well worth checking into.
the slave in/out feature is fantastic.
the effects loop options are fantastic.
oh yea ... the speaker cabinet options are fantastic too.
if this amp had a boost on/off switch or effects loop on/off switch , or a clean channel i would have rated this a "10"
so the "8" i give it is as high as i can rate a single channel amp.

i use this amp with many different guitar / pickup combinations.
my favorites are :
- Charvel Model 6 with a Duncan Metal LiveWire in the bridge , and a Classic in the neck.
- Ibanez RGT42DXFM with a pair of Ibanez V5 pickups.
- Gibson SG I with a Gibson Dirty Fingers.
- Charvel Model 6 with a Jackson J95 in the bridge ... the active mid boost system works well with the GH100TI.
- Epiphone Iommi SG
these guitars all SCREAM through the Laney GH100TI .
this amp loves high output pickups ... they are a match made in Heaven ( or is that Hell ? )

if this amp were stolen i would have to buy another one.
there is nothing i hate about the GH100TI , it does what it is intended to do.
bottom line : this is a killer amp for hard rock and heavy metal.

Very powerful, but a bit of a one trick pony. Takes ages to get a half decent clean sound, and even once it's there, it's got a lot of hiss. Even the dirty sound isn't that great, if you ask me, but I suppose for classic rock/metal it's probably okay.

I found it to be very noisy and not really suited to the style of music I play (death metal). However, the tubes give it some fat, warm bottom end. It sounds much better cranked up high.

I was playing an ESP MH-100QMNT through this, and using the Tommy Iomi box to go with it. As I said, it's not too bad of a sound if you're after a straight ahead, no questions dirty sound for classic rock. But if you're after versatility, give this one a miss. I know I will.

I got this thing about three years ago. It's the same amp as what everyone else is reviewing here. Versatility? You find a good tone and get the versatility from outside this amp (stomp boxes, guitars). I did find myself touching the amp settings during a jam to get different tones. Single channel, high (metal)/low (rockier) inputs, and an effects loop which I've never used. Plenty loud.

You can pretty much go from a mid 70s AC/DC sound to a razor sharp modern distortion sound. There's lots of gain to take the amp into random squealing and feedback if you are a player that thinks, "if less is more, just think how much MORE, more would be!" In between you, of course, get the chunky old Sabbath or Fu Manchu sound. It may go cleaner than that but I don't usually worry about totally clean sounds with a closed back cabinet and a head designed by Tony Iommi. Right now, I use several humbucker equipped guitars from the Les Paul mode and sound great with rhythm. Leads are not as fluid as on my 5150 or, oddly enough, my Laney VC30 which has way less gain. There's not as much sustain and you must be pretty accurate, unless you decide to go into total feedback distortion territory. Must say though that the tone is the most erratic of all the tube amps I've ever owned. Half the time I wasn't happy with the tone and, usually near the end of a long jam and when this thing has heated up the whole room (it runs SO hot), it sounded great and I thought it was the best amp I owned. Unfortunately, these times were too far and few between.

This thing is not very reliable. I've recently traded it off for these reasons.
The first one I got (through an internet store) electrocuted me when I turned it on and howled like a b**ch. I took it in to an amp tech I trust and same thing happened. I had to turn it off with a wooden spoon!
The second one was fine but still too erratic to trust. I bought it to be my backup and main rehearsal amp (it would sit in my buddies garage). Once in a while, it would crackle (not the cords, I checked) and then it recently started howling like a bi*ch, too. Even after unplugging the guitar and zeroing ALL knobs on the amp it howled. It was related to the heat level of the amp as, when I tried it the next day, it worked OK. This was the perfect opportunity to trade it off while it still worked! I'd never trust it to gig or even want it as a backup because of these issues.
Sorry Laney, I love your amps but this one hasn't worked for me.

Had some e-mail contact regarding this amp and they got back to me quickly and with decent info. They seemed about the same as any other company where you can't actually drive over and harrass them. A lot depends on the quality of your dealer.

I've played for twenty years now (can't believe it!) and I'm 35. I still do the weekend warrior thing when I can but have been spending more time in a recording studio and writing tunes than playing beer commercial music lately. I have only ever played in a one guitar band. I usually use a GMP or a Gibson Les Paul as they have stop tailpieces so they don't go out of tune when I break a string and they suit the louder hard rock I tend to like. I play through a 5150II as my main amp but also use a Laney VC30 combo. I don't use effects live except for maybe a wah or something. In the studio, I use what I must to sound decent (a crap sound may be just what's needed to cut through a mix).
I have since traded the GH100ti off on an Orange ADHTC and am looking forward to playing that. The GH100ti had a great sound when everything was right, but I often found myself working too hard to find a sweet spot. Needless to say, this should not be a problem when an amp is as basic as this one! That said, I would have preferred to keep this amp if it had worked reliably!

sabbath! thats the only thing it can conjure. i play in a classic speed metal band. im just spending money wildly and trying out new amps, trying to see if anything is better than my modded JSX...so far, no. you like big, sludgy, muddy, fat, tone? well this is it. its dead on like sabbaths tone. think sabbaths first album, and their last (with ozzy). and it nails that "jonny blade" tone. terrible for palm muting. harmonics sound GREAT with this head. pinch into high heaven! very fat for leads. but just TOO muddy. i tried cleaning it up with a tubescreamer, and no avail...this thing is just one tone-sabbath. if thats what you want, this is IT. but i can why not very many metal heads are endorsed by laney. stick to my peaveys and marshalls, thank you very much.

I bought a brand new 05 Laney. It is a pretty simple amp, almost harkens back to the era of non master volume amps. Two inputs, one channel, 3 Band Eq, Master, Gain, Presence, Bright switch and Bass switch. As far as loops and ect, theres a single loop with a switchable side chain, slave, and insert. It does an amazing job at what i play (think Crowbar, EHG) I wouldnt recommend this to someone who is used to the numerous loops and options of lets say, a Triple Rectifier but for someone who wants to plug and play. Like myself. But by no means is the amp limited, but just not super versatile. As far as power, the amp gets really loud around 3 and then tone start to come out well around there. Pretty basic setup in the guts, 4 Power Tubes (El34) and 4 Preamp Tubes (ECC83).

I use a 00 Standard SG with stock pickups. Just running the amp straight from the guitar doesnt get enough gain for my sound so I use any old pedal as a clean boost (ie, maxing out the volume with little to nothing gain on the pedal). This really drives the preamp hard enuf to get the sound i want. I love the sound, really raw and really heavy. Kinda somewhere in a more saturated Sabbath sound. The amp is relatively quite for a tube amp without the clean boost but once i kick that in the noise starts to come out but i like the noise. Its just part of the amp. But for those anti-noise a simple compressor/gate setup before the amp can solve that problem easily. The clean channel is alrite. I dont use it but you can get some good sounds using the tone switches and getting a good reverb unit or a modulation pedal. The clean has some good headroom but distorts around 5 or so.

I have been playing for 2 years now. Along with some other shit (Bad digital bullshit, crappy Marshall head, This is the crown of my collection. I would be quite angry to lose the head since it took a while to save up for it. I wished the amp had a lil more gain but i was able to overcome this. Anyone looking for the sludgy, doomy sound shouldnt be disappointed but others be wary.

- playing with gothic flying v with emg 81/85
- amazing metal tone, definatly a signature feature to my playing style
- extremely quiet compared to many high-gain amps
- very high-gain, yet a bit short of the amount found if amps such as a triple xxx
- resembles the red chord tone (my settings) i guess you could assume

I bought this used at guitar center althoug it looks brand new. You don't buy this amp for the featrures as there are not that many. The brught, resonace, and bass switches however, can be effective in sculpting your tone. Many speaker out configurations on the back panel. Slave outs as well.

I have found my dream distortion. I'm using this amp with a Gibson Custom Shop Iommi SG. This amp is all about the distortion. I would never use any type of distortion or overdive pedal with this. However, being that there is no reverb you might need alittle something on that front. I use a Boss digital delay pedal just for leads.
There is no perceivable hum from the amp but at high volumes, such as 4 and 5, and believe me, on this amp these are HIGH volumes you will get squeal in the time between turning your guitar up and hitting that first chord. But that could be fxed easily enough wtih a noise suppressor.
I play classic metal such as Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Dio and Metallica. This amp is PERFECT for the first four. For Metallica you'll have to eq it a little bit but ther eis plenty of gain. I keep the gain on 6 while playing most forms of metal so there's more there if I need it.
Its only one channel. It would be nice to just hit a footswitch and go from clean to crunch but unless you use a splitter to a nother head set up for clean its not gonna happen. However, it does clean up okay when you roll back on your volume. This is especially true if you have it loud.
I'm getting excellent sustain both above and below the twelfth fret and pinched harmonic squeals are working great. I love the distortion on this amp and I'm happy to sacrifice channels or whatever else to get it.

Overall, to me, amps are about distortion and tone as I like to rely solely on my amp for distortion. So I will overlook there only being one channel, no footswitch, and the squeal I'm getting and say that I am happy I got rid of my Marshall dsl50 for this head. I love the tone. Great purchase. You will find amps with more versatility in this price range but you will NOT find an amp with a better distorted tone than this for the money.

LANEY GH100TI (Tony Iommi)100 Watt Head. One channel plug & Play Amp with 6 chicken-head knobs, high and low inputs, 3 switches for resonance, bright and bass. Can use either EL34 (stock) or 6L6 power tubes. Effects loop with 3 settings (slave=parallel, input=series or bypass). I give the Amp a 8 because I would have much preferred another Loop seperating the parallel and series. No reverb but a simple Digitech DigiVerb is beneficial.

This thing is terrifyingly LOUD!
I currently have it hooked up to a THD Hotplate and a 2x12 loaded with Celestion V30s. I play mostly Custom Fat, double and Triple Fat Strats with Duncan Distortion or JB or DiMarzio FRED as bridge PUs.
Loop Boss GE-10 > BBE Sonic Max.481i
Full rig available in the front but I'm currenly only using DigiVerb, a Sniper GE-7 (occasional mid boost) and a MxR Wylde Overdrive and a Clean Boost (recap some lost treble for a big rig).
1) Gotta love single channel amps ~ plug, dime and play.
2) Incredibly quiet.
3) The distortion isn't that mounsterous but I will NOT need any extra dirt boxes. Typical EL34 Grit.
4) A Sonic Max. or an EQ in the the loop is your best friend. Only amp that I've played that didn't get a huge crunch increase from an EQ in the loop (just doesn't need it).
5) Heavy as hell .. 53 pounds.
6) Not as sludgy as I though it would be but with gain at 6 and Master at 5 with Hotplate is like a fatter/thicker JCM 800.
7) The Clean channel is usuable for a bluesy tone as long as you know how to use a 1 channel amp.
It does sound awesome and what you would expect from a heavier version of a EL34 amp.

I have been playing for 18 years. I have enjoyed every amp in the Marshall line except the the newer DSL/TSLs (no Marshall grit). I usually go for another amp every 3-4 years and this time I was looking for a darker heavier tone. Basically, was not ready to spend for a Bogner or a Soldano SLO and being a huge Iommi fan for decades this amp seems like a no brainer. The extra dollars saved for a Bogner or Soldano is a bonus. If it were stolen I'd get another ... it delivers and did not disappoint and that's why the 10 rating.

I use a couple of strats with hot humbuckers in the bridge, esp Les Paul, Jackson Kelly. The gain in this amp is slugish to me, very "mushy" in nature. I also have a 5150 II head and Triple X head and both of them blow this away in terms of overall sound and quality hi-gain tones. However, I don't want it to sound like I am totally dissing the amp because it is another beast. I am playing it through a 5150 Cab. To my ears it sound like an old orange or marshall with the tubes about to blow. U can get some decent Marshall-ish tones out of it, but the sustain is not there. I wish there was some way to tighten up the pre-amp on this thing. I emailed Laney about it and they said this could not be done. To be fair this thing is LOUD and I have never really opened it up, so it is hard to say what type of tone is to be had when the power tubes clip, but the pre-amp gain is not very focused.

Been playing around 15 years and doing some studio work along side with band projects. I think for the money this is a good value on a tube head and for the right kind of music this thing would be great, but the hi-gain sounds from Peavey or Mesa are much more suited to my taste. I would recommed playing through one first before purchasing one.
