Great 100 watt amp. Switching between Clean and Overdrive makes it fairly versatile (In terms of classic Marshall), but the fact that all the knobs are global (except Lead Master) does limit this amp. This amp really starts to sound good with the gain at 8-Max, but your clean channel will become slightly overdriven and won't be as pristine as one would like.

Sound Quality : 9
When it is set right, this thing is beautiful. I keep the Bass on 6, Mid from 5-6, and the treble at around 8. Personally, i like the extra top end snarl that i get from such a high treble setting. I also keep the presence in the same range. It is balanced out by the amp's naturally bassy character. This amp will definitely get you a good UFO, Black Sabbath, and (if you crank it loud enough) Guns N' Roses tone. For a great distortion boost, i use a Wylde overdrive on a moderate setting. That will give you a great metal grind. Although they are very different, both my Schecter C-1 Hellraiser and my Music Man John Petrucci Signature sound awesome through this amp. The clean channel is a little less satisfying (for reasons specified above), but it is still a good sounding channel, when the amp is set for it. (gain at 5-6, bass, treble and presence same as OD, Mid 4)

Reliability : 10
My dad bought this amp from a pawn shop 20 years ago, and we've never had a problem. We've played parties, clubs, and regular high-volume garage jams with this amp literally for decades, and it is still the magnificent piece of work it was 20 years ago. Even the tubes are stock. No problems!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Marshall is everywhere. You can get tubes at any retailer, and there is more info on Marshall amps out there than anyone could possibly take in.

I have two Marshall half stacks - this amp on a JCM 900 slant, and a JMP super lead 100 on a JCM 900 straight. (I've never had a JCM 900 head, so i don't know how we managed to get matching speaker cabs....... ) The 2555 is my favorite. The tone is awesome, it is more versatile, and i don't have to remove the guitar cable and put it into a different input for a clean channel. However, i have been looking at Mesas lately, because i need an amp that can do more than mid gain under its own steam, while having a separate clean channel. I love this amp, but I'm ready for something a little heavier. So, this is not a modern metal amp. But what it does do, it does extraordinarily well.

Mine is a 1987 2555 Jubilee 2 channel 100/50W head. It has Presence, Bass, Middle, Treble, Output Master (for clean volume), Lead Master (for OD volume), and Gain. This amps 2 channels share all the controls so I treat this like a 1 channel amp, but the gain knob has a push/pull pot on it so you can change the clean channel to a crunch. Also has an effects loop and a power switch on the front so you can cut it down to 50W. 4 EL-34s and 3 12AX7s. 16, 8, and 4 Ohms selection and footswitch jack for channel switching.

Sound Quality : 10
This amp sounds awesome! I use the clean channel with the gain on 6, bass- 6, mid- 7, treble- 7, presence- 6, output master- between 5 and 9 depending on the room, and power- 100W or 50W depending on the room. I play a Fender Strat modded Eric Clapton Strat specs, and a Carvin Bolt-T kit with a C22C humbucker in the bridge, AP11 single-coil in the middle, and a C22J humbucker in the neck with coil splitters for the buckers. My pedalboard: GTR > Boss TU-2 pedal tuner > MXR Smart Gate > Morley Pro-Series Volume/Wah > Boss BD-2 Blues Driver w/Keeley Mod (for gain boost only)> Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff > Electro-Harmonix English Muff'n > AMP > FX SEND > Morley Little Alligator Volume (for lead to rhythm volume) > Boss DD-20 Giga Delay > FX RETURN. The clean is not really all that clean, but I like that about it! This amp sounds very natural. The OD channel is fat and juicy sounding, but I barely use it because I would need to EQ it differently from the clean and you can't do that with this amp. I thought I would miss the reverb, but I don't at all! I don't ever feel the need to add a reverb effect to it. I haven't noticed a change in tone when I use the loop, but I haven't recorded with this amp yet, so we'll see. Not noisy at all to my ears! I'm REALLY picky about my tone and this amp does everything I need it to! It sounds good for everything from blues, to classic rock, to metal, and all in between! If you want super clean... get a Fender because this won't do it! For clean I use an AB switch into a Carvin Nomad 50W Vintage Series combo.

Reliability : 10
Awesome!!! This amp is 20 years old and still rocks the world! I've never had to have it repaired. I once dropped it onto the concrete while loading-in for a show and it still works the same! The tubes did not even get displaced! I still gig with a B-52 ST-100A as a spare, but I've never needed it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with Marshall.

Overall Rating : 10
I love this amp! I'm VERY picky about tone and I've owned a lot of amps over the years. This is one of the 2 amps I would NEVER get rid of (the other is the Carvin Nomad)! Good for all types of music, but not terribly clean. Overall, I think this amp is a too often overlooked gem!

Made in 1987. 2 channel amp, 100 watts, efeects loop (receive and send). Option to run this baby at 16, 8 or 4Ohms.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this amp with a Gibson Les Paul standard (2004 model). If you play rock music this is the best sounding amp you are ever likely to get the chance to own, (an affordable 1969 plexi?- no i haven't seen one either). It just oozes class. The clean sound is one of the best Marshall attempts but of course if that's your thing Fender know their stuff. Enough of clean talk because when you turn this bad boy on to its dirty channel it will make you grin- a lot. I haven't seen a review yet though telling people how to really make this thing sing. What you need to do is have the master volume as loud as possible and control the overall volume by turning the lead master pot right down. I was always led to believe that these amps had an additional 'lead master' volume control so that you could turn them right up and have the master volume down. But this is not the way to 1) push the valves hard, and 2) have a nice balance in sound between the clean and distorted channels. The other thing is don't go crazy on the gain pot. I promise you can get a huge sound with the gain on no more then 4. Marshalls start to lose their magic if you saturate the sound too much so have some restraint and learn to make the distortion come from your pick hitting strings. I sound like a bloody guitar tech now so i'm going to shut up!!

Reliability : 10
It's a Marshall!! It was made in 1987 and still works like the day it marched out of the factory. A Russian tank springs to mind!

Customer Support : 10
I wonder if Marshall have ever had a call to say this amp has broken?

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 15 years in gigging and recording bands and this thing rocks. If it were stolen i would ask the guy how he managed to walk away with it because it weighs a tone. I'd probably look for the guy half way up the road moaning about having a bad back and ask him where my amp is. Oh i forgot to say Slash from gnr and now velvet revolver won't play anything else!!

Made in 1987, Canadian CSA with one metal toggle for main power, 2 plastic toggles for standby and half power, original grey (silver) tolex version 4 EL34's 3 12AX7's. This amp is very versatile with 100watt and half power option in the front panel 2 channels- clean channel is great for blues sound lighten up on picking or strumming chords and it cleans up well enough also the clean channel has a clip mode pullpot on gain to give you a slightly modded plexi ie AC/DC, Van Halen or classic rock marshall sound. The lead channel is great a refined or modded JCM 800 sound not as harsh alot more control in the EQ! One of the best Marshall effects loops I have used! DI output works really well into a poweramp, or recording unit. Footswitch jack to change channels. I use this amp to record and play with my original project. I can't say I would want any more from an amp, I have been playing for 19 year's with a seriously long list of amplifier's I have owned and let go due to G.A.S and the need for change to find the right sound for me. Great amplifier period.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Tom Anderson Cobra guitar primarily with H2+ and HN1 (medium gain) pickups. Using the 2555 in the 100watt full power mode, through an older JCM 800 4x12 Slant cab with the original 8ohm 75's that are very broken in. I play everthing from SRV blues to Heavy Mettalica and this amp is fully capable of all sounds when you learn how to use it. I use the clean channel for blues and I use a new MXR ZW-44 overdrive pedal that turns the clean channel in to a gainy blues sound for soloing or a very close VOX AC 30 sound without touching a dial which was a cool suprise!! The lead channel is used for heavy crunch sounds from Slash to ZAKK and then I kick in the ZW-44 for that over the top gain for solo's or extreme heavy and brutal sounds. I play also alot of STP, Sound Garden, AIC, etc.. This amp covers it with no complaint, very quiet in clean channel and clip mode, lead channel has a slight gain hiss no big deal!! The only other effects I am using with amp are a Dunlop WAH, and a Boss Digital Dimension DC-3 chorus pedal. I'm not going to get into settings as everone should find there own sound.

Reliability : No Opinion
Pretty good so far, I haven't had it to long yet but I don't see any problems, its a really good Marshall!

Never had to deal with them.

I have been playing for over 19 year's and I have had many many Marshall's stock and modded, also I have owned Soldano's, Mesa's, Bogner, VOX, rack gear and on and on!! This is by far the best amp I have had for the tones, it is Marshall in every way for sound and power! I have been looking for many year's and found that this amp is fantastic! If it were lost or stolen I would get another one for sure. I don't do this product review thing often but I felt I had to share this info, if you get a chance to really try or buy one of these amps out I recommend you take advantage.

Mine is the black tolex version, so I would guess it was made in 88'. This is the first REAL piece of pro equipment I have ever owned and it does only a coulpe of things. However it does them really well. Clean, vintage dirty, and kick you in the stomach marshall CRUNCH!!! no reverb, however you really don't need it with this amp. You can run it at 50 watts or 100 watts. I personally have never switched it to the 100 watts as 50 is plenty loud

OH MY GOD!!!! WOW. Let me tell you my story. I got this amp on a Friday and had no guitar cab to run it through, so I plugged it into my buddies SWR Triad bass cab (1x15, 1x10, and a horn) And the amp honestly sounded horrible. Now I know guitar amps aren't supposed to be played through bass cabs but I figured it would at least give me some Idea as to what the amp would sound like. It SUCKED and I was disappointed because I have wanted this marshall forever. The next day I took it into guitar center to try mesa and marshall cabs. The moment I plugged it into a (guitar)cab, The amp came ALIVE and slapped me in the face. I mean holy shit, this thing rocked and rolled. Anyways, I walked out of there w/ a marshall 4x12 cab and got home and started playing around. YES this was the signature marshall sound I have been after for quite sometime. I was hearing sounds like billy gibons, Slash, Angus young, etc. I play a les paul though it and god damn it just sounds sweet. Juicy, juicy, tone for days. My tone quest is now complete!

Reliability : 8
Since it was built in 87'or 88' and it came to me in just about perfect condition, i'd have to say it's most likely pretty reliable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
They suck. You can't get anywhere w/ them, it's not even marshall you're dealing with. I was looking for a manual for this amp so I called them up and they gave me the number for some guy in Vermont?? What the hell is that. It's beyond me why they can't scan there manuals and put them in .pdf on their website?

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for about 10 years and I have tried a few different mediocre amps during that time, but always found that somthing just wasn't right. Not anymore. This is my setup. 2555 head and 1960A 4x12 and Les paul. I will personalize my sound with this. If you love marshall, then this is the amp for you, I have never actually heard a marshall amp that quit nails the "Marshall sound" like this one.

This amp has everything you need but it is simple. It was nmade in 87 I think.

Sound Quality : 10
This is the BEST rock guitar amp you will ever find. They were over looked in there day because of all the rack crap that was comming out. Much improved tone over the JCM800 and really good musical low end. I can't say enough about what a good rhythm sound this amp creates, it records very well too. It's lead tone is a bit brittle though, i'd like it to be smoother for my playing style but I found if I use it with a pre amp boost pedal and crack the master all the way I get what im after but this is only really practical in a recording enviroment. It's a bit of a one trick pony but I have never found any piece of equipment that doe's a few things well.

Reliability : 10
Never had a problem with it.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
This amp doe's the rock thing the way it should be. I have used so many amps over the last 15 years, all I know is that if you want the real Marshall tone this is the amp to get it from. I would definately replace it but they are getting hard to find. If you find one but it.
Probably if I wanted something more versitile that gave me a smoother lead tone and wanted the same vibe i'd look at a Soldano or one of the mods from splawnguitars.com.

guitars: gibson firebird with seymour duncan custom humbucker (awesome combination!), '59 les paul goldtop with dimarzio super distortion, sg junior with bridge p-90
espec. with the firbird/Seymour d. combination this amp more than smokes. it's got balls, nice distortion (not that dark and muddy nu metal crap) and most of it all: definition and clarity even with high gain settings!!!
I play from crunchy vintage distortion (AC/DC) to classic metal distorted rhythm sounds through this baby- please- no pedals needed- the jubilee covers it all when it comes to crunch!!! don't expect mesa settings. versatility in distorted sounds is the keyword for this amp because you have different controls for gain settings.
won't talk about its clean features, 'cause i don't use them anyway.

i'll always buy it again- best rock amp i played / heard so far!!!
best 2 (+more) channel marshall ever built- this amp really has a tone control in comparison to most jcms. but i heard there's also differences in between the silver jubilee series. mine is awesome!

I think everything that could be said about the Jubilees features has already been said here, so I don't bother doing it again.
I use this amp for every style of music, ranging from pop to metal. It is a silver 1987 model. I originally bought it because I'm a huge Slash fan.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using an Epi Les Paul (fitted with Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II pickups) and a Flying V + a Marshall JCM900 cab. As I mentioned above, my style of music ranges from pop to metal and this amp fits in very well.
This is easily one of the best sounding amps I've ever used and I've used this one from small clubs to big festivals.
As it's a tube amp it has a very warm tone, however, when I'm using it for the metal-type stuff I prefer using a Boss Metal Zone for more defined distortion.

Reliability : 10
I've had it for 6 years now and I've changed the tubes once, other than that, well, nothing. It's my main (and only one big enough for gigs) amp and I do use it without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Hard to say, 'cause I've never contacted them.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing guitar for 10 years.
I also use a Boss GT-3, a DOD flanger and a CryBaby Wah.
If this amp was lost or stolen, I'd buy another one.
I wish that someday I'd find a matching Silver Jubilee cabinet.

I'm using a fender stratocaster standard with this amp and it sound really great! The amp fits my music style perfectly, I play proggressive rock, heavy, hard rock, alternative. I use the clean channel much and it's sweet as sugar and the distortion is good, I also use a RAT vintage distortion and a boss DS-1 distortion effect. They sound real good throught this amp.
I use this amp with a 4x12 Marshall jcm800 1982A cab.

I have never had any problems, just changed the tubes.
