I bought my Pennington in 2005 with 2 10-inch speakers instead of 1 12-inch. I bought it to get a warm clean tube sound. The amp has a lot of power and the reverb is awesome. It has one channel, but I use effects pedals to get any other sounds I need. It has a quarter inch line out and knobs for volume, treble, mid, bass, reverb and master volume. I play in large and small venues, and the amp cranks out lots of power.

Its original settings were geared more for jazz than rock. Since I play both, I asked Frank Matunas, the manufacturer, to adjust it and we swapped out the original Celestion speakers for Jensens. Now, while there is still plenty of bottom when needed, I get a much brighter, overall richer sound, frankly the best pure tube amp sound for rock I have ever heard from any amp. I mostly play with a PRS.

The amp is built like a tank, and I would never expect it to let me down, and it hasn't. I haven't owned it that long enough though.

Frank Matunas is the manufacturer, customer support, everything. He is responsive and very focused on making sure the amp sounds the way you want it to sound. If you want it tweaked, he will do it.

This is the best amp I have had. I have great confidence it will perform the way I expect and no concerns about reliability, service or support.

I recently purchased a Summit Reverb with 2 tens instead of one 12.The amp is very versatile especially if you have a bunch of different guitars.

Amp is very clean and won't distort unless your ears are bleeding. I use a Keeley half baked to get distortion. There are not a lot of bells and wistles with this amp. I bought it for the totally clean sound. It's a lot like my Marshall Club and Country amp but with a bigger sound. Sounds great with all my guitars.

I have a Marshall, a Fender Pro series, Fender Ultramit Chorus and a Blues Junior. These amps are getting dust on them. I wish the amp distorted at a reasonable sound level, I hate plugging boxes into the amp.

The Pennington Summit Reverb is a single channel, 50 watt all tube amplifier. The amp was made in October 2004.It is the newest design from custom amp maker Frank Matunas. The Front Panel Controls are Volume,Treble, Middle, Bass, Reverb, and Master Volume. The rear panel has an External Speaker Output, 1/4"Line Out, and a Bias Adjustment.
The amp uses 2-6550 Power Tubes, 2-12AX7 and 2-12AT7 Preamp Tubes.
I am a fusion jazz guitarist and play mostly in small to medium size clubs with my trio or quartet in the NYC area. It's also the primary amp in my recording studio. The headroom in this amp is the best I've ever experienced in a 50 watt amp. It always feels that I have an extra gear if I need it. The amp sonically is warm and pristine. Tht reverb feature on this amp is so good that I no longer use my expensive digital reverb processor.(Oh well) All the controls are very responsive, even a small incremental change in the bass, middle or treble is clearly heard. I really have never tried to use the self-biasing feature, I've always had a technician do it. I guess if you're into that kind of stuff it could be a cool feature.

I use this amp in a relatively clean setting. I play a Les Paul DC and a Guild Nitebird with Kent Armstrong pickups. If I need distortion I use my TS9 by Robert Keeley, which sounds incredible. The Summit Reverb smoothly reproduces the TS9 without residual noise. I play in a jazz fusion group that can be dynamically really quiet one minute and the next minute we're really digging in. The thing about this amp that I enjoy is that it sounds great at both volumes. I'm not a big fan of the amp's distortion using the Volume and Master Volume controls only. The Summit's design seems to beautifully reproduce any type of processor or pedal (at least that is my experience). I've owned the amp for almost a year and anything I've plugged into it is just enhanced perfectly. One other thing about this amp is that it is unbelievably quiet. I'm a fanatic about noise when recording and I've always been completely satisfied with this unit! It's actually quieter than my solid state Marshall.

I have never had a problem with this amp in any facet. It's built like a Benz.

I do know that Pennington offers a 5-year warranty excluding tubes and speakers. In my experience the customer service at Pennigton is exceptional.

I've been playing guitar for over 40 years, and this is the best combo amp I've ever owned. I would describe this amp as a black panel Fender Pro Reverb on steroids ( which I owned many over the years). Maybe Pennington could add an XLR line out instead of the 1/4" but that's the only thing I think I would change or add. I love this amp and would highly recommend it to the most discerning guitarist.
