I have an accoustic 124 ampand i play old rock through it. I use a Fender Fat Strat and my old 1966 Fender Coronado 2.the amp really has a clean sound and it will really crank.it has 2 channels, reverb, abright switch and a 5 control equalizer. I can't crank it too much at my apartment or i'll get evicted.

I inherited my Acoustic 124 from a band mate. He bought it new and since we played in the same band together for many years, I became very familiar with the Acoustic 124. This amp has been through HELL AND HIGH WATER and still works - although the reverb has become disfunctional and the EQ is a little messed up. Yes, it is a loud amp. It has a unique midrange sound and is great for clean and other uses. If you know what your doing, you can achieve nearly any sound with it (using external effects). The big negative about this amp is it's a heavey and cumbersome SOB.Since it's a combo, it's just this big heavy box that is a real pain to move.

I've been playing for 30 years. I use Les Paul Standards and Strats both with no modifications. I would buy this amp again if I could find one for a good price. When I get some extra money, I will get this amp brought up to snuff by a good tech - it's worth maintaining but I've go so many other projects. I'm not giving it a great rating because there are so many amps out there that make this thing sort of a dinasour and it's a pain in the arse to move around. But, it's great if your just going to use it as a practice amp at home.

I bought this amp in mint condition with rollers, casters and original owners manual. It is a 1979 model.2 channel, bass, mid, treb. vol & master vol, reverb, 5 band graphic eq. 3 button foot switch for master vol, reverb, & eq. 100 watts, solid state.
This amp will shake walls with the volume. Power amp in & preamp out. Brightness switch. Open back.
I play blues, Rock, Metal, Outlaw Country and all else that is cool.

I play blues, Rock, Metal, Outlaw Country and this amp suits my style well.
I use a fender strat with Van Zandt Blues Pickups(SD Hot Stack in the Bridge) to Boss BD 2, to Amp. I use a chourus for the preamp. I will occasionally use a wah.
This amp has an awesome clean sound and the distortion is more of a crunch sound. With the Blues Driver it sounds like a tube amp.
THIS AMP IS FU#@ING LOUD.

Ive been playing for 20 years and have always been a tube man. I bought it off a guy who had it in storage and I needed an amp that weekend. I didnt have much to spend and I was very pleased with the purchace. The only problem I have is that it is too heavey. Thank god for the casters.
If you find one for the price I got it for, BUY IT!

Impressive for solid state, good clean sound, and good over drive. Can be used as a guitar amp or bass amp or keyboard amp. And did I mention, it's LOUD!

It listed for $799 new back in 1978 when that was a lot of money. Lots of guys played these back then including John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. I'm tickled pink to pick it up for $199. If you see one in a pawn shop or something, grab it! I've also got 3 old Fender amps, and 2 peaveys. Been playing in rock & blues bands for about 30 years off & on.

I bought this guitar amp second-hand in 1986 for playing in a college band. The guy I bought it off told me he'd had it for ten years.
The amp is single channel with a standard input and a separate attenuated input. It is an all discrete transistor solid state amp. It doesn't have any IC's in it. You can see from the way it is laid out internally that it was built with a lot of thought.
It has a volume control and treble mid and bass controls. It also has foot switchable controls being master volume, 5 band eq, and reverb. On the back panel there are sockets for pre-amp out and for power amp in so you can use a different pre-amp if you want to. It also has a brightness switch that boosts the high frequencies considerably.
It is a 4x10 open-backed combo. The original speakers have black frames with square magnets.
I've used this amp for playing pretty loud rock in hotel rooms and also at rehearsals. It is a very loud amp. I presently also own a Marshall JCM 900 dual reverb 50watt head that goes through a 4x10 celestion cabinet. The Acoustic is much louder.

When I bought the amp in 1986 we were playing english punk/new wave style music of 1977-1982 style. Later 1992-1998 I've used it for playing distorted guitar rock similar to Wildhearts (UK) and Radio Birdman (AU). I also like Blue Oyster Cult and Stooges type guitar sounds. I bought a marshall JCM 900 in 1999 and have only just started playing the Acoustic again.
I play a 1977 fender strat with original fender single pole pickups. I almost always use the trebly bridge pick up. I have a zoom effects board and various boss effects pedals but I usually don't use them when I play this amp because I can get a really good distortion out of it.
I have played both my marshall JCM 900 and the Acoustic 124's amp output through my celestion 4x10 cabinet. The Acoustic is a lot louder but more importantly the distorted sound is heaps better. It is smoother and a lot bigger without the fizzy sounds that the marshall had. I find this very ironic because for about 15 years I always wanted to get a marshall valve amp. Now that I've got the marshall I much prefer the sound of the Acoustic.
The distortion isn't brutal, I wouldn't expect that you'd use if for playing metal but for playing cleaner stuff alternative music it is great. I've played in bands with guys that had peavey 50 classic tube amps and Fender Twins. They both liked the sound of the Acoustic.

It is an extremely dependable amp. I've had it in and out of the boot of cars and carried up and down stairs and rolled over rough floors on its casters but nothing's come loose in 15years and its never failed. I've gigged with it many times without a backup.

I've never dealt with the company. I understand that Acoustic Control Corporation was based in California and was sold to Trace Elliot in the early eighties.

I've been playing it for about 15 years. I also own a Marshall JCM 900 50 watt head which I'm going to sell.
If it were stolen I'd like to get another Acoustic amp but I don't see them come up for sale much. The main thing I love about the amp is the sound quality. I think it great for a cleaner distorted rock sound than is common today e.g. Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult, Mick Ronson. Also it is very reliable and very loud.
I've recently removed the Amp's head from the combo and am playing it through the closed 4x10 celestion cabinet. This is a really good combination as there is more bottom end than in the open backed Acoustic combo. Also I suspect the celestion's are more efficient than the Acoustic's speakers as it seems to be even louder.
