Two channel all tube powerhouse. With the proper pedals, this can do anything. Excellent reverb. Can get dangerously loud with the EV speaker but sounds great at low volumes too.

Sounds great with hummers and single coils. The most beautiful clean amp I have ever had (and i've had twins, boogies, carvins, trace-elliot, peaveys and vox's to name a few). Very beefy clean channel that stays clean well into the ear damage range. Channel two has an excellent classic rock adjustable distortion ala jimmy (page or hendrix). Not for heavy metal without a pedal.

Never had a problem with it. It's tube, so any good tech can fix it.

I've heard this amp referred to as the "Poor Man's Boogie". Very clean and loud like a Fender Twin in channel 1. Channel two serves up nice fat tube distortion. Used to run a Fender MIJ Strat with EMG's through an MXR compressor and a Deluxe memory man. Played Rock, Jazz.

It had two or three meltdowns in the 10 years I used it exclusively. The diodes would fry and then the fuse would blow and you were done. My older brother/amp tech has snipped the diodes and there have been no more problems. He thinks that the diodes were there to protect the power amp section in the event that the speaker cable was unplugged. Also, some of the high voltage tracks on the circuit board have been beefed up with point to point wiring and a few large caps have been replaced.

The company is out of business, but there is an unofficial website where you can find schematics, etc.

I also have an Acoustic G160T 100 watt head (same amp) with a model 464 12" speaker cabinet. I really like the sound of the amp but it's simply gotten too heavy to lug around anymore. I crank it up in the basement when I feel the need to clear out the cobwebs. These days I'm carrying either a Fender Vibrolux or a Polytone Mini-Brute to gigs.

Fender strat, tele and a Gibson SG- use for Rockabilly, country and any rock style.
This amp distorts better with any humbucker guitar and sound a bit ratty with single coils...the clean sound is lush with any guitar, though.
I try to approach a Scotty Moore or a James Burton sound and it's no problem with this amp. With the SG, the amp distorts in a "Malcom Young" type way if you dial the master at say eight and the preamp at five.

I can depend on it...although it isnt a p-t-p wired amp and can take a lot of time if you have to remove the circuit board and work on the amp. Point to point wiring is ALWAYS best- if your the guy that has to fix the amp.
Ive had regular servicing done to this amp..all the normal stuff.

I've been playing for about eighteen years. Got a Fender ProReverb and Fender Bandmaster that are great amps..the Acoustic holds it own.
If lost I wouldnt try to find another..lifes to short to chase one amp. I would take the insurance money and get an Allen Old Flame or a Clay Hullett amp.
What do I love about the amp? The SRO EV speaker. Hate about it? Weight-85lb.

Bought it new in 1980. Has switchable power output; 60/100 watts into an EV SRO 12 loudspeaker (this thing has a magnet that could lift a volkswagon). Also has ability to switch preamp from FETs to 12AX7s. Uses four 6L6s for the power amp section. Cabinet is beautiful with walnut and ash solid woods. Two foot-switchable channels, each with gain and master volume. Bass, mid, treble, presence and reverb controls and five band graphic EQ on the front panel. Back panel has main and extension speaker outs, preamp out and power amp in jacks, and three footswitch jacks for channel switching, reverb and EQ in/out. Mine is still in near mint condition by virtue of the fact that its too heavy to gig with. Ok for home and studio.

Great clean sounds which was primarily where my head was at in those days. Good overdrive too if you take the time to work with it. Has a lot of Boogie qualities.

I'm in my early forties now and I started playing guitar the day after the Beatles played Sullivan. My two main axes are a 1970 Gibson ES 335 and an early nineties Steinberger GM4T. I have the usual assortment of pedals and stomp boxes. Due to its extreme weight it is not all that likely to be stolen but if it were I would probably replace it with a (smaller and lighter) combo amp like a Matchless or maybe one of those cool little Booker amps.
