This amp has worked well for me for over 30 years. The "variamp" control took a little getting used to, but works well. When I bought the amp, it came with a sheet that showed the dial settings to obtain the sound of various amp head and cab combos (Vox superbeatle, Fender showman, etc) kind of a 1970's modeling setup. At least it was a good place to start.
The low level out jack in the back was perfect for feeding another amp.

I use two guitars, a late sixties telecaster and an early seventies SG. Being a solid state amp, overdrive isn't possible, but the built in fuzz works well for most applications. I actually use a Fender Blender pedal for a bit more bite and sustain. I have never overpowered the speakers- the dual 15"s (and horn) handle my loudest sounds. The cab sound is very directional and for this reason I have always used a Vibrolux at 90 degrees to carry the guitar to the rest of the band.

Very dependable. I have always had a Vibrolux to use as a backup- bit never needed it.

Doubt I could find another if something happened, but I would sure try.
Other choices at time of purchase included various Kustom heads and cabs, Traynor, Sunn and, of course, Fender. Sunn was a not too close second.

Features don't matter to me in this case: This is the amp that Albert King was using for live gigs in the late 60's, unmiked,in some fairly large venues. At the time, I was attending many concerts by rock and blues' best guitarists in their prime, Jeff Beck , Clapton, Hendrix, Bloomfield, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush. the rock guys were all using Marshalls, the blues guys were using Fenders. NOTHING compared to the Acoustic 260 in my opinion.

It's got one incomparable sound, clean, nothing else is worth discussing, The clean sound has tone to satisfy anyone who can really play and doesn't hide behind distortion and overdrive. (After all, it's 60's technology -solid state-, you DON'T want it to break up). The reverb is strong, but if you already have favorite , it won't adjust. I love it for itself.

I've been playing since 1964. I ususally use other amps in clubs ,because the 260 bottom is HUGE; 2-15", and a HORN! IF ANYONE HAS ONE FOR SALE I'D LIKE TO BUT IT>

Purchased in 1970. Solid State, 125 Watts.
Dual channels, one with tremolo, fuzz and spring reverb.
Both channels have switchable cut/boost equalizer. Has practically useless electric tuning feature. Also has power limiter. Very modern look. Extrodinarily reliable and predictable. Plenty of clean power.

Good sharp rythm sound, good clean lead sound, bad dirty lead sound - not really for heavy rockers that want a lot of compression, to get that you had to add a pedal of some sort (which most people do these days). Good reverb and tremolo. Fuzz was functional, but not particularly good sounding. Distorted sound is not very useful, sounds strained and edgy.
Really an amp for passing a clean sound through to a large audience.

Has never broken - even in 20 years of almost daily portage and use at high volumes. It has outlasted several other amps I have had, making the same trips to the same jobs, without problems.

I would put this in the same class as the Fender Showman, which is the other amp I used regularly. The showman had a better loud sound, smoother, not as much power - but broke down 4 times during jobs over ten years.
