This amp was made in the late 70's, it's has the same features as a Mesa Boogie Mark III (even the 5-band EQ). I played it throughout my musical career between 1978 and 1989.
It has channel switching, reverb, effects loop and switching in & out of the 5-band EQ. It has 100/50 watts and 1-12" self contained speaker (Combo). It uses 4-6L6's and five 12AX7's, most of the tubes are JJ's that I purchased from Bob Pletka @ Eurotubes, he matched these and sent them. V-1 was changed out by Mike Ramay @ Mamay's Audio Works (e-mail address is: JCVessel12@msn.com) he put in an old RCA tube that fattend up channel one, and it tremendously fat sounding + clean as Heck! This guy is a true amp Guru. He also change the filter caps and some resisters and diodes.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using a Fender Strat with John Suhr V-60 pickups in the neck and middle positions and a WCR Goodwood humbucker in the bridge. In channel two with Mike Ramay's Ramm-Drive (overdrive) pedal this amp produces a sound that is remarkable, better then the Mesa Boogie Mark III I had. The clean channel breaks up at extreme volumes because I had a well broken in Celestion Vintage (60) watt speaker
I only run the amp at 50 watts (two 6L6's). The amp is Quiet as can be and that's rare for a 100 watt tube amp. I play Top-40, Full-Blown Fusion Jazz and Funk (ala Chaka Kahn and TOP). I better known as the Chord Nazi, 75% of the time I hear bands play other peoples music they are playing the wrong chords or inversions. I have been blessed with a good ear and it that ear that makes it so difficult when I'm chasing tone, this amp gives me awesome tone.

Reliability : 10
I played it for 11-years without a problem, never needed repair I took it to Mike Ramay for a tune up, I wanted Godzilla in an amp and he gave it too me.

Company no longer exist.

I've been playing for 37-years, I also won a Bogner Shiva 1-12" Combo
It's hard to find Acoustic G100T's, once Mike Ramay played mine he is looking for one as well on e-bay. I would say that with this amp and Mike Ramay's RAMM-Drive (O.D.) pedal it rivals a Dumble amp.
If Carlos Santana, Robben Ford (or) Larry Carlton ever heard this amp they would offer me big-bucks for it (but I wouldn't sell it).

That's how damn good it sounds!!

I believe this amp was made in the late 1970's .....say 1978.
Stock it sounded good, modded by Mike Ramey of Whittier, CA.....AWESOME! The clean channel sound full and clean (Fenderish) if you will. The bottom end is so damn tight. The overdrive channel with the Celestion Vintage 30 sound Plexi (to the MAX). The best I can desribe it is the sound Clapton got on the live Crossroads recording.
Most newer amps have three channels and multi tube designation but for it time I think this Acoustic G100T is an equal to the Mesa Boogie Mark II's and III's. It has 100/60 watts and 6L6's. I use all Bob Pletka's JJ Power & Preamp tubes.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a 2003 Fender Strat w/ John Suhr V-60 pickups and Callaham bridge and tremlo assy, so the guitar sound better than any stock Start I've ever heard. I read about these components from another review on Harmony Central and thought "what the hell I'll try it" You know what it was the best advise and no one couldn't go wrong trying this. It's only $275.00 for the pickups and $140.00 for the bridge assembly. Believe me well worth it. The sound is so much more vintage like using the V-60 pickups and the sound comes alive even with the Guitar unplugged using the Callaham system.

Reliability : 9
I've had this amp only five years, two years it was stock and the last htree years with the moddifications by Mike. The Celestion I got was as Hellatone from Advatar speaker cabinets. They are broken in and sound better than the stock (brand new).
What ever can go wrong can be fixed by a good amp technician.
The Acoustic company made a good amp, you can make it great

Company went under in the 80's

I've been playing since 1966, YA I'm an old Fart, but you young people need to listen to us oldies, we know what the FUCK were talking about. Allot of years experience truly is "PRICELESS"
Two of my friends have purchased these amps used since they heard mine and they both echo the same opinions as I do concerning these amps. If you can find one....Buy it.

two channels. lead has gain and volume, clean only has volume. low, mid and treble for both channels with pull bass boost and pull treble bright. master volume knob and reverb level. 5 band graphic EQ, ala Mesa Boogie Mark III. EQ, reverb and volume (channel switch) jacks on back panel, along with effect send and return jacks. 1 x 12" speaker. replaced original with a Mesa Boogie Celestion Black Shadow. 50 w and 100 w switch on rear panel alongside ohm 8 or 4 switch. ground reverse switch and power on switch also on rear panel. hi and lo gain inputs on front. LED's indicate what channel is being used. overall a good set of features very boogie style. would have liked a switchable effects loop but i don't use it much anyway. i play straight ahead rock with a bit of punk and this amp suits me very well for that purpose. i use a 1979 strat for mellow sounds and the clean channel does a good job of emulating the classic fender clean especially that nasal round SRV tone with my TS-808. with my 1985 standard les paul it gets very warm and breaks up nicely when the clean channel is cranked. the overdrive sounds glassy and punchy with the strat. with the les paul it is a saturated beast. now i know why Mesa sued Acoustic over this amp. this is a boogie. when i got this amp it had no speaker and no tubes, so i had no idea if it worked. Jerry Blaha of Amp Crazy checked it out and got it working and it's been nothing but love since. four 6l6 tubes and four 12ax7's.

Sound Quality : 8
my two main guitars are a 1979 fender stratocaster and 1985 Gibson Les Paul standard. the amp works great for my style because it is versatile enough to give me almost totally clean sounds and very saturated crunch with loads of sustain. it gets a lot of air at hight gain settings with the master volume up a bit. but switching the channels between songs at shows is not a problem.

Reliability : 8
since it is pretty old and i got it used and very beat uo reliability did worry me but since i got it repaired it has been working great. i get the odd crackle here and there but that may just be the need to clean the insides or something. the amp had been really neglected to the day it doesn't have a speaker grille so all you see is bare speaker but it hasn't given up on me yet

Customer Support : No Opinion
non existent. the company went kaput!!

Overall Rating : 8
i have been playing for almost 17 years now and this is one of the better amps i have heard. i was looking at mesa boogies, actually still am, but in the mean time this amp has held me over. i have used a variety of different setups from the trusted peavey transistors to crate Stealth tube amps to roland Jc-120's and and the tone on this thing blows most of those away with the exception of the JC-120 clean sound, which is, to me, perfect. i run a load of effects pedals throught this thingand it doesn't lose definition or tone. i use two different overdrive pedals, ibanez TS-808 and Zakk Wylde overdrive, some delays, chorus, rotovibe, wah, fuzz, and too much other stuff to list. with all of that the amp still comes through with character and guts. i love the sound, i hate the fact that they don't make them anymore and that it is a finicky amp at times, but i guess that's old age.

Built about 1982. Fairly versatile, has clean and drive thru a single tone stack, drive has it's own volume control and both then feed thru a Master vol. Has reverb and a 5 band EQ before the power amp. Can switch between 2 or 4 power tubes (50 or 100 watts). All features footswitchable. Has series FX insert.

Sound Quality : 8
In stock form, it's the quintessential '80's amp. Sterile cleans, hi gain drive channel with the lows and highs rolled off for a very mid-ey and smooth drive. The cleans are too clean, the drive is too smooth, at least for my tastes. Think Boogie MkII, it competed well with it sound wise...

Now for a modified form. I've owned this thing since it was new, and for the past decade it's seen some serious closet time. The Fenders and Marshalls get the playing time. But I decided to check it out again, and still didn't really like it much. So I fitted it for EL34's and lowered the value of a rolloff cap in the drive section. And I changed all coupling caps to NOS paper caps. Now the cleans have more character and feel, the drive channel is actually pretty decent. It'll probably get to gig from time to time now...

Reliability : 5
Crashed early on during a gig. Had this punny little SS bridge rectifier rated for 2 amps. What a joke, had the designer never heard of inrush current on startup? Put in a 6 amp version and it's worked since. One inductor went open in the EQ and needs replacing. Other than that, it's showed signs of arcing on the output jumper wire between the tubes, so fixed that.

The real problem with this amp (and probably part of why they're no longer in business) is the construction. They used a bunch of decent quality components and then crammed them onto a PCB, including the tube sockets. That's not so bad in and of itself, but then they crammed it all in a chassis that's almost too small and didn't use connectors to tie the EQ, power, footswitches, tonestack components to it, they simply soldered all those wires to the PCB after it was installed. What that translates to is an extremely difficult amp to service. There are so many wires on all four edges of the board that you can't even loosen it enough to get to the backside without unsoldering the whole mess.

When I pulled the PCB in mine I added solder turrets for the power caps and screen resistors so at least they'll be serviceable without spending two days to r&r the PCB...

But on the flip side, It's never died after putting in a generously sized bridge rectifier.

I'd give it 8 or 9 if it weren't for what you have to go thru (or pay thru the nose for someone else to go thru) to work on it.

Had a lifetime warranty that died the day they went out of business. I did get this amp as a free replacement for a croaked 164 (this amp's predecessor) before the company itself croaked.

And at least the schematic is in Pittman's Groove Tubes book...

Overall Rating : 5
Paid $900 in 1982 which is like $2400 now. Well, live and learn... Sure wish I'd have bought one of those old used Marshalls back then, I'd be sitting on a vintage Plexi right now. Or how about one of those old Vox combos back then?

I'd never buy another one, but at least I like it enough after fitting EL34's and tweeking the drive channel that I'm not going to eBay it for $200. And since I added some solder turrets, at least I can service what's likely to need servicing with having to take a whole weekend...

If you find one that works for $150 and can do the mods to put in EL34's and change a drive channel cap, it can be worthwhile. Or, if you just like that quintessential '80's sound of a stock one...
