Adams V-50

This is just an addition to my hastily written previous review [see below].I forgot to mention that the 50 watt rms rated V-50 comes with a footswitch for changing back and forth from clean to overdrive,as well as a single 8 ohm and dual 4 ohm speaker out jacks.Like the reverb,the effects loop is tube driven and features a blend control,as well.

I thought that I would clarify my 8 rating on the previous review.While the clean,slightly dirty and classic rock tones are all there,I was hoping for a bit more gain and saturation for getting the more modern rock and metal tones.I see it as really my fault,as I asked Bill for a "vintage voiced amp" two channel amp,and failed to mention my desire for the heavier tones,as well.Oh well,I guess that is what distortion pedals are for.So for getting the sweet clean and chewy classic rock tones that the circuit is capable of,I would have to give the V-50 a solid 9.I'm sure if asked,Bill could add more crunch and sustain into the tonal mix.For what it's worth,I decided to keep the combo "as is".

This well built hand wired 50 dual EL-34 driven combo is multi-featured,with separate EQ sections on both the clean and overdrive channels,as well as featuring a tube driven reverb and effects loop.There is also a master reverb and master presence control.The speaker is a Celestion Vintage 30 and the 7 layer plywood cabinet is all built and nicely covered by Mr. Bill Adams himself.The combo weighs in at a solid 51 pounds.

The clean channel is excellent,with superb sparkle and shimmering high end detail.Cranking the clean volume with master to taste gives for a nice blues/rock type breakup.The reverb sounds pretty sweet in this mode.The gain side is geared heavily toward classic rock and early metal tones,with the EQ giving good tonal flexibilty.Like with most good tube amps,the higher gain tones really thicken and come alive as the master volume is edged upward.The effects loop works extremely well with both my Boss DD-20 and Guyatone MD-3 delays pedals.

All point to point hand wired and built by Mr. Adams,so it should stand the test of time.

Bill is a great person to deal with,and his warranty and return policy are top notch.He quickly returns phone calls and all emails.

The V-50 is a superb classic rock and blues combo that also has the volume to play on the larger stages.The tone and voicing are not so well suited to the more modern metal styles,unless a good overdrive/distortion pedal is to be used.Btw,it does take pedals quite well.Oh,and did I mention that I paid only $950.00 for this handmade beauty?Great service and support are an added bonus,as well.So drop Bill Adams an email if the V-50 sounds like what you're looking for in a versatile vintage voiced two channel combo. www.adamsamplification.com .
