Features : 9
Two 12AX7, two 7825, four 5881; L/R level, presence A and B (more accentuated), triode/pentode/ultralinear switch, two speed fan, switcable boost, DI out (no cab emulation) plus the usual feature of a power amp: L/R standby, power on, 4/8/16 ohm output. The only real drawback it's the weight, over 20 kg... It has two pair of 5881 in PP configuration, enough headroom to make my ears bleed.

Sound Quality : 10
I play in a cover band; I love metal blues and old rock'n'roll. It always colour the sound in a way I dream of... warm sound with a little bite. At EVERY VOLUME, even at bedroom level, it sound like power tubes been overdriven. I don't know how they could manage this, but I like it. The pentode mode is at home with rock, metal, the triode loves blues and the ultralinear stay in between. My setup: Ibanez PGM30/ Mexican strato/ an old Kramer; ADA MP2/ mesa V-twin (rack)/ boss DS1 + yamaha dg-stomp; TC G-major; one 1x12 cab with vintage 30 (custom made, solid wood). Regardless of the preamp, the 1492 has a warmness that remind me a dr.Z I've gigged once mixed with a fender twin. To obtain a marshall setting it's not difficult with the ADA and the 1492 in pentode mode, but it not so crunchy... however, I like it more than the original ;)

Reliability : No Opinion
I play mostly in little club going directly to mixer with the ADA or DG-stomp. In bigger stages I have run in mono my complete 4U rack (ADA or mesa, G-major, 1492) with more satisaction :)). I used to have a DG-stomp as backup, and as I run thru the left channel if a tube fail I have the right willing to be run... The amp has never failed. No hum, no noise at all.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never asked.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing since 1980. Have had a '70 fender twin, a JCM800 from the '70, some hughes&Kettner, a mesa rocket... I have played thru old fender tweed, vox... every amp have it's own caracter! I wish I could have all of them, but the 1492 is as good as each of them. I love the tone I have with the mesa, the crunch with tha ADA. I have compared with Marshall 50/50 (I don't remember the impression... is it a sympthom???) and mesa 50/50 (similar, but less "organic", more pricey !!!). I wish it had a cab emulator... For the price and the sound, the best amp I ever had.
