I bought a 1972 "Producer 120 " 2 channel amp + master volume for $35
at a flea market, broken. It appeared in excellent comestic shape.

Channel 1 - Volume, Bass, Treble. Bright/low switch.
Channel 2 - Volume, bass, treble, middle. Bright/low switch.

The tubes were missing, and whomever did broke off a capictor
that burned out 2 resistors. Being a ole technician, I repaired
the amp and replaced alot of the other old caps.

Tubes are: 3x7025, 12atx, and 2x6550. I used Groove tubes in all but
the 12atx.

Sounds really nice. Pushes about 50w into 4 ohms. Warm clean tone.
Nice with pedals. The 6550's provide a lot of head room for
Jazz, or blues rock.

Altogether I put into about $100 of parts for a good amp.
Weighs a frickin ton. It's a full size head equal to a
Marshall in size and weight.

Sound Quality : 10
Guitars : tele, fender strat w/ SVR Texas single coil PU's
1976 Les Paul.

I can turn it to 10 without any distortion. Excellent for effects.

I am fairly sure I am reviewing the same head. I bought it with a 6x10 matching cab. I was tipped off by a guy at the local guitar store about the arrival of this combo and bought it the same day I went to just look at it (happens all too often). He told me that some church had it and was "upgrading." Haha, hope they didnt get a Crate. This thing rocks out.

As far as the features, there are 4 inputs, 3 band eq, reverb options on both channels, as well as trmelo on #2. 2 kt-88s, 6 12ax7s. a buddy of mine found a compatable footswitch for the tremelo, but i had to connect it with an RCA-1/4". The head itself is rated at 5 ohms. This is why I am only giving it a 7. This has lots of features...that is just odd.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using it in stereo with an OD120 w/peavy classic 4x10. Playing a G&L Legacy Special (Strat style) with 2 dual blade pickups and a dimarzio. Sometimes I plug it straight into it, but usually run it through a Big muff -> GT-5.

Has a lot of bass if you want it to compared to most amps I have used. Also, this thing could burst my eardrum (Which is a plus). It overdrives nicely, but can be clean if that is what is necessary.

I really enjoy the sound of this with my OD120.

Reliability : 9
I dropped this amp from on top of the 6x10, with no real problems. I have had one issue where a tube holder fried, but, that was easily replaced (and it may have been the bass player that did something).

I havent tested this all too much as far as running it for 3 days straight or anything, but I figure I could run it over with a Canyonero and it would still survive.

Heck, I can't even find anything out about the amp, let alone the company. However looking at the other reviews, it appears that they were made or distributed by Randall.

Overall Rating : 9
I like the sound of this. It's loud, has a good tone, overdrives when necessary. I heard Elvis' band used these. I have no real complaints so far. I forgot to review this and have had it for over a year.

I would buy another if I ever saw one again.

This is just an update to my previous review which I made very recently... until I bought this head, I'd never heard of AIMS. However, I have just seen an old 1975 magazine ad for the AIMS "Personalized Producer" amp. This is what it says...

Sound Quality : No Opinion
"I find the AIMS Producer amp to give the truest acoustic bass sound available, as well as being the most versatile electric bass amp I've used yet" - Rick Petrone (bass player with the Maynard Ferguson Band)

Reliability : No Opinion
The bottom of the ad says "AIMS amplifiers are manufactured and distributed by Randall Instruments, Inc".

So there you have it folks. If you can trust a Randall, then you can trust this thing.

After examining the picture on the ad and comparing it with my amp, I have concluded that this IS NOT the same thing as the "Personalized Guitar Sound System" aka VTG120, though they do almost look identical. It's difficult to tell from the ad, but it looks like the Personalized Producer doesn't have a reverb or tremelo, whereas the VTG120 does. Also a couple less knobs on the Personalized Producer.

I believe this amp was made in Pheonix, AZ sometime in the 1970's. On the front it says "Personalized Guitar Sound System" and on the back the model number is VTG-120. As far as features are concerned, it is basically the same as an old Fender Bassman head... 2 channels, each having 2 inputs. One channel is best for guitar and the other is best for bass. Each channel has a volume knob and 3 knobs for the eq.
There's a "bright" switch on it and a couple other switches (forget what they do). Also has a master volume that affects both channels. On the back are two speaker output jacks and a preamp out jack. So as you can see, it has all the features of an old Fender Bassman... PLUS... it has a reverb, tremolo and a jack for a footswitch! I also think this thing is a bit better laid out than the bassman because the power, ground and stand-by switches are mounted on the front.

Sound Quality : 9
SUPERB! I plugged my bass into one of the channels and thought it sounded kinda thin. Then I plugged the bass into the other channel and discovered this thing has balls... even kept up with my Peavey 210TX! Plugged my guitar in and the sound very much reminded me of my Sovtek Mig-60. Great sound and a great EQ. Reverb is not bad and unfortunately my tremolo was broken when I got it, so I can't comment on it. For the price, I'd say the sound is a 10, but in comparison to other equipment I'll say 9 to be fair. You won't be disappointed with this thing.

Reliability : 10
I think I can depend on it. I always have a backup though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't think they've existed for the last 20 years or so.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 12 years and owned a lot of amps including a 1965 Fender Bassman, a Sovtek Mig-60, a smaller Garnet tube amp, and several solid state amps. I've only been playing the bass for about 5 years but really only gotten serious about it in the last 6 months. A great alternative to a Fender Bassman. This is a great bang-for-your-buck amp. Only thing I could ask for is some sort of overdrive on it.

I'm not sure when this head was made but it was probably back in the seventies. 2 chanels with 2 inputs each. 120 watts @ 5ohms believe it or not. I was looking for something a litle more powerfull but when I tried it it had that tube sound i was looking for. There's a pre amp out on the back so i will probably hook up a power amp to that then i'll be rocking. I play metal but I am very influenced, sound and style wise , by jazz and blues musicians. I try to bring those elements into the metal I play so I started with a vintage tube head. It has the bare minimum so i'll probs have to run a compressor and eq.

Sound Quality : 9
I play a peavey bass but I put some emg pickups in it till I finish building mine. It was exactly what i was looking for as far as sound. I love the sound of a bass through 6550's. It came with a matching cabinet(2x10's and 1x15) but the speakers don't quite cut it. they crap out when I hit any note on the e string but thats not the amps fault. alright distortion when i crank the volume but should improve a lot when I retube it, the tube are a litle old.

Reliability : No Opinion
I haven't giged with it yet. Should be as reliable as any other head built in the 70's. I will gig with it but so far it holds up in practice

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't think so. I have to send it out off town if I ever need it fixed.

Overall Rating : 8
I'm rating this amp for what it is. I'm not even going to start comparing it to anything that came out 30 years after it, that woudln't be fare. I have been playing guitar for 7 years and just recently picked up the bass two years ago. I own a fender bass man 400h. I am happy with the sound but it was lacking that tube sound I was after. I don't think I could find another one if it was lost. I live in a town wich is big enough to have more then one guitar shop but not big enough for them to start carrying things like 500 what tube amps that you can try out all the time. I've played threw some and loved them but just like averything else it comes with a huge price tag that maybe one day i'll be able to afford but till then I will be very satisfied with wath i've got

none, luckily I've had the fortune of finding three in the same town and got them all for about 100 a peice.

Overall Rating : 10
yes I've bought three. tonal control is outstanding. you have two channels separated into two more for high/low input, 3band eq,plus two high/low switches on one, high/low inputs, 2band eq, two high/low switches on the other. It's magnificant. Ive also seen a thing called a mr.bass-o head and cab but it was gone later.
