Probably purchased sometime in the early to mid 1950's by my grandpa, handed down to me after his death in 1980. Retubed, and just like the last guy to review, used a British preamp tube for one channel and the American type for the other. No 'verb that's a bummer, however the tremelo is wicked, very musical, useable.

I record with it now, perfect volume levels for studio use, easy to dial in saturation levels from the power tubes. (By the way, I'm unaware of any other amps besides Fender who ever used the 6V6, odd choice because they can operate independently from one another unlike 6L6's, etc. which cascade their power. I play rock, blues, etc. great tone for that genre. As the other reviewer states, it is a bit on the dark side, but when I record I use a exciter that sparks up the sound a bit.

I recommend replacing the power cord with a 3 prong one! Just attach the ground to one of the bolts on the power transformer in the rear. Lots safer! Replace caps every 10-12 years. Thing still chugs along, though I admit, I save it and it's tubes for the studio, not by any stretch a pracite amp. These things are handwired, it's practically a 'boutique" amp without the price tag.

I've been playing since the early '70's. I have an Ampeg V-4 that is probably responsible for most of my earing loss! I've got the required Silvertone 50w head & 2-12 cab, oh yea...a Marshall that just seemed required to be considered legit at somepoint in my life, but the Ampeg goes to the stage with me most of the time. It's the loudeest, heaviest thing I've ever used. (Bought that in '78) If someone stole my Airline I'd hunt them down and make them carry the Ampeg around to shows for me as punishment. I keep thinking about upgrading the speaker itself in the AIrline but something keeps me from disturbing it. Maybe karma? Who knows, I'll probably leave it untouched and pass it down to my son.

early to mid 60's 1X12 combo with trem...2 channel (you can combine 'em)...(2) 12AX7's, and (2) 6V6 for output, 1(6AU6) for trem, and a 6X4 rectifier...much like the Silvertone 1482 of the same era...
i play garage rock. it's perfect...a warmer, darker fender tweed sound...
wish it had reverb...

Garage rock heaven. i use a 12AU7 in channel 1 and the 12AX7 in channel 2, and A/B switch for solos. perfect. no distortion pedal needed. AND it's light to carry to any gig. It friggin' rocks..
