Looks like the first few reviews had no clue about these tube amps...
Anything 40 years old needs servicing before use!
These were made by Danelectro in the 6os for Montgomery wards. These are exactly the same as the Sears Silvertone model 1471 that Dano also
made for Sears except in a much better cabinet with all the controls on the front vs the Silvertone has them all on the back. This is much nicer looking than the Silvertone and does not rattle like the Silvertone does. Schematics are the same for both, placement of tube and transformers is a little different. The transformers have the same codes stamped in them as the Silvertone. They need new filter caps and a 3 wire cord installed to be ready to play. Mine has a Reissue Jensen 8 inch P8R 4 ohm Alnico speaker and it sounds great!
Its a one channel amp with 2 inputs, volume and tone controls.
It uses a 6X4,12AX7 and 6V6GT for tubes. All cheap and easy to find.
These were meant to be shipped mailorder so it weighs all of 11lbs!

Sounds great with single coils or humbuckers. works great with pedals too. Works great with harp too. Mine is dead quiet when not being played and can get quite loud with a good speaker in it. Oh the design of the chassis will let you put a 10 inch speaker in there where you cant do that in the Silvertones..Amps sounds very clean up to about 3/4 volume then it starts to get that great tube amp overdriven sound the higher you go in volume. I use a Strat and Epi Les Paul Special II guitar

I put $10 worth of parts in it and expect it to go for another 40 years!

Long out of warranty! So simple to work on. It would be a good amp to learn how to work on tube amps.

This is very much like a Fender Champ, nearly identical easy to find tubes.

No features. Twist it on and off... tone is a joke because it starts at too much treble.

Straight up tubes through Jensen. Too small though. We recorded this via various volumes and guitars. Never fails. Loud and great. So much so, I had a local tech put a speaker-bypass out jack on the back so I can plug it into a cab. Very simple.... so don't waste time with pedals and such... volume is your decision!!

Never failed. Montgomary Ward used to have a store near me in Pittsburgh... this was 15 years ago and the amp was outdated by at least 30 years by then!!!! Jeez!! Any local tech can take care of this guy cheaply! Don't sell the farm!

Cool little number. Get one if you see one. If you hate it, turn it into an amp project you can learn from. Very simple circuit! It's for recording.. if you know that, you'll be happy! Enjoy...

2 inputs - Volume - Tone - Small speaker. Best feature of all though - the thing weighs 11 pounds. I've had dumps bigger than 11 pounds. Who wouldn't want to carry an 11 pound tube amp. I'm sure it'll see some use now based on that alone.

Ok - I'm the first reviewer, and I was young and stupid. I ALSO had a piece of junk guitar...it was an epi les paul, not the real deal, so it was the pickups to blame. I've since grown up, gotten a real guitar or two, and realized it was the best 15 bucks I'd ever spent. I pulled it out of the closet, plugged in the Tom Anderson and whoa...sweet. Now, its not my `64 super reverb, but for 15 bucks, or even a hundred bucks, I dare say you couldn't find much better. There are no sounds except clean/overdriven clean, and it really only sounds good maxed out with volume and tone, but thats just fine because it sounds good that way.

I still would be a little weary if this were my only amp. I guess its constructed ok, but A: its 11 lbs so its not built like a tank, B: its oooold and smaaaaalll. As easily as this thing is to carry, its probably easier to kick off an amp stand, a chair, etc. and lastly, C: the parts have been on here for a long time, I haven't opened it up, but I can't imagine the stuff holding it together will hold it together for much longer. However, its simply built, so there isn't a lot of things that could go wrong, so I'll give it a 6.

I still agree with my statement below. I don't think Montgomery Ward has been in the amp business for a while.

Same as the review below. Had to install a ground wire with clip because of low level shock from strings. 40 year old speaker disintigrated, installed a Jenson Mod, big improvement.

This is where I depart from the 1st reviewer. This thing sounds simply mahvelous. Granted there is no reverb or trem but there are stomp boxes you can buy. I play mine clean and it makes a great little studio amp for clean playing (or with compression pedal). These things were not made for humbuckers, and fail miserably if you try. This thing sounds great with my 80s Fender, 60s Silvertone and 2003 Dillion, it also makes the greatest accoustic amp imaginable, very warm.

It's old and kind of cheesy looking, I'm not sure.

Great little single coil amp particularly for studio. I think it would work as a performance amp for small venue acoustic. I love playing my 70s vintage Aspen D35 copy with a Tahoe Soundhole pu, through it. Very quiet, very true.

Me thinks this is a 62. It was made by Montgomery Ward. It has a 6.5 inch speaker and about 15 watts. Two inputs, a tone pot, and a volume pot. Thats about it for features huh? Oh yeah, it has a 6X4, a 12AX7, and a 6V6GT for tubes. It probably is one of the least versitile amps in the known world. If you have one that has less, write and let me know. It also sports a nice shiny silver grille cloth and the standard black vinyl cab covering.

Sounds good, if you want a dark, cheap, easily distorted, over trebly sound. I think it works well with my slide guitar and a harmonica. If I changed the tubes, I bet I could sparkle it up a bit. With my Paul, I can get very un-intersting sounds. Except for a decent blues overdrive, it sucks as a normal guitar amp. If you want to use it, you have to think like the amp.

If you think I would depend on this...your crazy. I used it once without backup in church. I was playing, and it just up and shut off, right when I had an intro. It was quite funny really. The power tube is starting to glow blue, it looks cool, but I'm sure it means I should get it checked. It's a great amp, so long as you don't have to use it. I mean that as long as you have something else you can play, its nice to have it around.

Do you think Montgomery Wards would honor a warranty? Do you think they would even remember making it? I will have to take it somewhere else. Yet, I think I might try taking it there just to see what they'd do.

If I lost it, I would definately cry, then look for a new one, then realize they're not made any more, then get over it, then buy something else, then find a nice one in a neighbor's garage sale and buy it! This cannot be compared to anything, it is a one of a kind, very vintage looking piece of crap. It doesn't compare with my New H&K or my Fender Super Reverb, but heh, where else can you drop 15 bucks for quality junk?
