I believe this amp was made in either 1949 or 1950. The reason is because it does not have the Alamo logo on the amp chassis. It just has Alamo Electronics Corp in regular typeface. It DOES have a serial# on it-- 1156,in handwritten numbers by the power switch, but I'm told that these amps are hard to date even with this info.
Anyway, this is a perfect amp for playing around the house or a small setting. Has volume and tone control. Anything else on it is simply not needed.

Sound Quality : 9
Volume from 0-4 is very clean with a classic warm, tube sound. From 4-10 it gets naturally crunchy just like a fender champ, but louder. Has a great, gritty tone when you push it.

Reliability : 9
Because of it's age, I wouldn't depend on this amp solely at a live gig. The main reason I say that is because everything on this amp is original, so the parts are going on 50 years in age. However, I give it high marks in this category because it HAS lasted all these years and still plays fine. I don't have it for playing live, just a novelty around the house.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Alamo doesn't make amps anymore, so this is irrelevant.

Overall Rating : 10
The best part about this amp is that I found it in the trash while helping a friend move one day. I'd never heard of these amps before, but I know a class A tube amp when I see one and wasn't about to just leave it there. Mainly I just wanted to see if it still worked or have it repaired if it didn't. It has a solid birch cabinet with the letter "A" scrolled out on the front grill. If anyone knows any more info about these amps, please send me an email. Thanks.

I believe my amp 3 was built in 1954 . When hooked up to an extension speaker cab, this amp is suprisingly loud. The tone it gave me while recording guitar for a local access TV music program was so nice that musicians called in asking about it and my band mates now associate the Alamo 3 amp with my guitar as my best and most personal sound to date. I've usded it for rock, metal, southern rock, jazz, funksterupagus and blues of all types. I have actually gigged with this amp, micing it to the board and the stage volume was good in a small club.

Sound Quality : 10
Both humbucker and single coil pickups work well with this amp as with most tube amps, I've used used effects in front of it and it takes the signal well. I've used a wha pedal with it and I layed the amp on it's back, speakers facing toward the ceiling and it produced a siren sound while manipulating the wha pedal. This is the first and only amp that I've heard this from. Wicked Kool !!! When you plug straight into this amp you get a great blues whail and turning back your guitar volume control cleans the sound up[ nicely.

Reliability : 10
This amp has the original tubes from back in "54. It still sounds unbelieveable but I don't use the 10" speaker because I'm conserving it so I plug into a 12" celestion cab and this makes the amp considerably louder!!!

I do have the warranty card but I know that Alamo has long since been out of business. I've only had this amp for the past ten years since 1990.

Overall Rating : 10

Just purchased this very old tube amp in solid wood cab with an "A" cut out on the grill. I am very interested in any info any of you folks might have no this thing. It has three tubes and a jenson, maybe 10" speaker in it.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
It sounds nice and fat at low volumes with my les paul. It hums a bit and is not very loud, even with volume full up. I would guess it needs new tubes or some tech work..

Reliability : No Opinion
still works... who knows.. looks very old maybe 50's???
