The Alessandro Boxer 210, 2 10" jensen ceramics, not the greatest speakers, but good. Twenty class A screaming watts. Great sturdy build. Treble/Middle/Bass/Reverb/Volume/Final Output - What More Do You Need? High grade parts - military spec jacks and ceramic tube sockets. Built like a tank. Jangly - more punch, Creamy - less definition.

Sound Quality : 10
Simply One of the greatest sounding clean amps I have EVER played. I also play through an authentic 1963 fender bassman and a 1989 Dual Showman and this thing has the best clean out of all. A Complete pedal whore, will accept any pedals and still sound like an A+ amp. Best idea if you don't want to lose sound though - TRUE BYPASS (fulltone, HBE, analogman, bbe, voodoo, etc) BEST SOUNDING AMP

Reliability : 10
The Amp Is built like a tank. You don't need to take another to a gig. Military spec parts, and a $900 chasis is all you need to know. It is built to be worked, hence the title. It is built to be sent to hell and back and survive, and it does just that

Customer Support : 10
George Alessandro is simply one of the greatest amp makers. He builds a fine product and backs it 100%. You can call up the number and HE will answer, not a secretary. He has his stuff down.

Overall Rating : 10
I would buy this amp again in a heartbeat if it went missing. Between the amps i have, i use certain ones for different times. Boxer - Small Gigs, powerful, warm-up. 1963 Bassman - Studio / Recording, and just a loud amp. 1989 Fender Dual Showman - Kill everything, 100 w all tube AB power. This amp is simple and powerful with full support and backing, built with high-end parts and built securely, no extra bells and whistles. AMAZING amp

2003 20W class A single channel all tube amp (two 6-v6 power tudes and 2 12AX7 pre-amp. Contols include: on/off switch, stand-by switch, volume, tone (highs, mids & lows), reverb, "Creamy Jangly" (Creamy for humbucker growl & Jangly for single coil clean), and an attenuator that cuts oput in half. Mine is a rare one with a cream tolex cover. While it's a simple amp, the tone controls are very powerful and the attenuator actually works. Hence, it has the features I want.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using it with five different instruments... three with humbuckers (one solid body, the two other hollow, including a suspended pickup on a jazz box) the other two are single coils. The amp works well with all the guitars (Although it takes time to learn how to use the tone controls to dial in the best sound. Anyone who tells you this amp doesn't sound great, hasn't learned to use the tone controls... it take patience... but is well worth it.) The amp has a very good clean sound... toward the Fender / Tone King audio spectrum. When cranking the volume up over the 1 o'clcok position, it starts to break up very smoothly into more of the Marshall or cranked Vox area (depending on how the tone controls are adjusted). The one thing this amp won't do is take you into cranked Mesa territority without distortion pedals. But, I'm not looking for that anyway. Those who have been down on the Jensen speakers have a point... up to a point. They do take some time to break in, but once they do, they get smooth, responsive, and sound great. Almost everyone one of my player friends who hears this amp are impressed, and EVERYONE who has played it has remarked about how much the really like it. I just don't get the one guy before me who gave this amp a one. He must not have had the patience to figure it out. BTW, I've played several of these same model amps at different places, and they've all performed very well.

Reliability : 10
I've actually dropped it out of the back of my SUV, and it still performed as it should. When I put new tubes in, I got a first hand look at how well it is constructed. I expect it to hold up quite well.

George Alessandro (or whoever answers their e-mail is very responsive to questions.) Never needed and servicing.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing since the 70s (mostly classic rock, some metal, just now getting deeper into Jazz, and some stuff with a local community orchestra and community theatre.) I've owned, Mesa Boogies, Fenders (new and Vintage), Tech 21 amps, Tone King, Carvin amps, Marshalls, Vox (older ones), Orange amps, Ampeg amps, and Sunn Amps. I've owned Gibson Les Pauls, Howard Robert's Fusion, SG, 335s, 135s, Fender Jeff Beck and California Strats, Thinline Tele, Carvin DC 400, Ibanez George Benson GB-12, Ibanez AS200, Ibanez Ghostrider, Ibanez Artist, Guild Manhattans, G&L ASATs and Commanches, Peavy T-60s, BC Rich Custom Mockingbird, Comins Chester Ave, Hamer Calf Cust, to name a few. This amp, for the sound and low weight, is one of the better bits of gear I've ever owned. It's not getting traded in anytime soon!

20w 2-6V6 2x10 single-channel combo with volume, reverb, treble, mid, bass, and a built-in power attenuator of some sort. There's also a "jangly/creamy" switch. I don't know what it's supposed to do, but what I do with it is set it to jangly when I want a clean sound, and creamy when I want it to growl at me.

The best feature of this amp is its very responsive tone controls. I've owned a boatload of different amps. I was having a lot of trouble getting happy with the Boxer at first, until I noticed that the Alessandro tone controls really WORK. It's as if, with other amps I've owned, the tone knobs made "suggestions" about how the amp should sound, while the Boxer tone knobs give you real control over it. Now that I'm more in tune with the amp, I'm extremely impressed with it.

The speakers are Jensen RIs, which frankly do not sound very good UNTIL they're broken in (which can take a couple of dozen hours). I gave up. I put a set of David Allen (www.allenamps.com) C1060s in there, which I like a ton. FAT bottom end, great mids, and no ice-pick-in-the-ear at all.

It's a solid-state rectifier, with 12AX7 for preamp, 12AT7 for reverb driver, and another 12AX7 for phase inverter.

I never seem to use the power attenuator; I just leave it at 100%.

I'm using this amp in my basement. I only gig rarely any more, and I expect that it'd have enough power for those gigs (small NYC clubs). It's got enough power for my purposes, so far as I know.

I usually use Fender BF amps, or amps that sound very much like them (Tone King, Allen) so I'm not usually in need of a big set of features. This amp has the features I need and use, but for somebody else they might not be happy unless an amp's got three channels.

Sound Quality : 10
I use it with a '00 Fender Tele, an '00 Fender Strat, and an '03 PRS Santana SE. I need a good amount of clean headroom, and this amp has it PROVIDED YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THE TONE CONTROLS. I emphasize that because this is the feature that makes this amp.

I get a fat, very rich and complex clean sound out of this amp even at very low volume levels. It sounds like I've got a really good clean boost going into the amp, but it's just guitar-cable-amp.

The reverb and power attenuator pots are a little noisy at the end of their range. I understand this is common across all the Working Dogs, and isn't just bad pots. Knowing that, it doesn't bother me.

The amp sounds very Fendery (although honestly better) when dialed in for clean sounds, and very Marshall/Vox-ish when it breaks up. This messes me up, since I've personally never used cranked Marshalls or Voxes. I know a few people that really like that sound, and they love this amp when it's cranking. I'm more at home with it with the volume below 12:00 or so.

The reverb is short-pan, so don't expect Surf City. You'll need to turn it up above 3:00 o'clock to really even hear it. Again, that doesn't bother me.

I'm very happy with the way this amp sounds, particularly in the clean settings.

Reliability : 10
I've had the amp open a few times for swapping tubes around, and doing the speaker switch. I'm very impressed with the build quality, and I like the cabinet construction.

Bring along some fuses and extra tubes if you gig with it. I would not expect any other problems with the amp. It's a quality product.

Customer Support : 10
I bought my amp used, and Alessandro sent me a new reverb unit at no charge, along with answering my questions about tube choices and clearing up my understanding of his tone stack. Email is answered within a couple of hours, and whoever's on the other end is unfailingly polite and well-informed.

Alessandro deserves a 20 for this category.

Overall Rating : 10
I initially slapped a bunch of NOS tubes in there and got a pretty good sound out of it. Then, on a lark, I put in a pair of 6V6GT EH power tubes, and two Sovtek 12AX7LPS (preamp/phase inverter) along with a Mullard CV4024 (12AT7) for the reverb driver.

Holy cow. The amp came alive.

I've been playing since '66 or so, and up until '80 made my living at it. It's a hobby now, albeit one that means a lot to me, and I've owned an awful lot of different stuff. Some very high end ($3K or so), and some not so high end ($300 or so).

I'm happy this is the amp I've wound up with. I'm extremely happy with the clean sounds of this amp--it's got a warmth and fatness to it that I honestly don't hear in amps costing twice as much. If you're in a hurry, you'll probably miss what a fine instrument this amp is. Alessandro has my profound respect for the quality of sound he produces and the way he stands behind it.

This amp was made in 2003 its a single channel amp The one feature I wish it had was for it to sound good ,For a 1200.00 amp It should have came stock with better speakers ,aat least celestions instead of $30 jensen reissue garbage

Sound Quality : 1
I tried to like this amp but out of the box you can tell in a few minutes if its a dog it is .I tried it with a strat lp es 335 and yeilded the same results uhggg ,All the other reviews here say the amp is great ,wow were you all drunk? The reverb sounds so thin its like it isn't even on,the amp when cranked yeilds an am radio type distortion, the crappy speakers don't help at all ,Can't believe I bought this amp

Reliability : 3
The wiring inside looks very meticulous ,however the cabinet is very unsturdy it rattles when the amp is played ,I tried tightening all the screws but it still rattles ,

Customer Support : No Opinion

Ive been playing for 20 years ,Ive had soldanos ,marshalls ,a kendrick, voxes ,vibroking, old fenders .I think I know whats supposed to sound good ,The idea of this amp was good but it didnt turn out right ,I think they tried to cut corners to keep the price down and still make a good profit, like the cheap speakers and crappy cabinet, why not charge another 200 bucks and put good speakers in and a good cab that doesnt sound like its going to fall apart, please dont listen to the other reviews ,like I did, listen to mine and save yourself the trouble

The Boxer is a single channel reverb amp using two 6V6's for power. Unique features inclued a "jangly/creamy" switch and a 50-100% power adjustment knob. Tonal rangle goes from very jangly to extremely fat and harmonically rich distortion. Very light in weight yet very rugged construction.

Sound Quality : 10
I use single coil and humbucker guitars and play primarily electric blues. I prefer and use Marshall and Park plexis. This amp has astonishingly fat, sweet power tube distortion at over about 4 or 5 and at higher settings it is huge, milkshake thick distortion with that elusive "springy" feel. Output tube distortion is musically far superior to cheesy sounding "master volume" type preamp distortion. Think "Live Cream II."

The amp is loud at full volume but can be dialed down a bit without losing distortion tone with the power knob. I actually use it with the power dialed down to 50% and then with maximum attenuation on one of George Alessandros "Muzzle" attenuators which I put between the amp and its speakers. That takes the amp down to a loud practice level and the tone is incredible.

Clean tones are as good as any Fender, in fact I am getting rid of my remaining vintage Fenders as I no longer have any use for them, this amp does a better job and it works all the time without the noise, hiss, pops and other annoyances of vintage gear.

The Boxer does beautiful jangly rockabilly, country western, you name it as well. Players into that type of thing might want to consider one of George's bigger combo amps, I think they are the equal if not superior to any Super Reverbs etc.

I now use my Boxer almost exclusively, it sounds that good. If the tone of a Marshall Plexi on "8" is your thing, give this amp a try.

Reliability : 10
George Alessandro's amps have workmanship, quality and reliability second to none. The Boxer, like all his "Working Dog" amps is built to take the abuse of a working musician.

Customer Support : 10
One year warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
Have been playing electric blues in the style of Clapton, Gary Moore, Jeff Healy, you know the tone for 30 years, primarily through non-master volume Marshall and Park "plexi" amps. The Boxer is one of the few combo amps to deliver anywhere near the tone, satisfaction, and feel of my vintage amps. More importantly, it has that "feel" factor that really get my juices flowing, something you non-master volume Marshall heads know all about. I recommend this amp wholeheartedly.
