Features : 8
2001 model / bought in 2006
I got the amp from Alessandro, it was in a retail store and was sent back to George just when I was calling to ask him about a 4x10 Rott, so it was kind of NOS, and I got a deal on it. It was like new.

Features - at a glance, quite simple: Jangly/Creamy switch, vol, treb, mid, bass, final-output-control (not a master).

But play with them and they become a real tone/gain shaping group of EQ's. I mess with all of them depending on the guitar and music styles.

The amp is loud, but not loud like a twin, more like a bassman, but stop the comparison there.

It came with 4x Jensen C10R's (NOT), so I replaced them with (2) Jensen P10Q's and (2) C10Q's. Now we are smokin'!

Now because I've got to touch all of the buttons, I also switch the 12AX7 in the preamp to a 12AT7, "season to taste".

I give the features an 8, even though to me there a 10, but compared to a mesa lonestar with a bazillion different settings, well ya' know.

Sound Quality : 10
I play this amp with either a stock G&L Legacy or a Gibson 58 RI LP.
I like to play 'styles' that are simialr in ways to SRV, to KWS, Robben Ford, Clapton, Hendrix, Stones, Freddie King, Rock-a-billy... you can see where this is going, old school stuff with a twist.

I'll compare this amp to others, but it's not a clone of anything, it has the sound in my head, my 66 super reverb and 79 JMP had a child.

At low volumes (30% tp 50%) with the treb(5) mid(7) bass(4), Final output control( from now on referred to as FOC) set at 100%, it's Fenderish, but warmth with color. The Les Paul straight in gets great country, chickin-pickin' sounds, also this is where I can get a great Robben Ford type of sound with my AnalogMan TS-9 silver with the gain at 1 and the output all the way, and a bit of slap from a DD6, nice, really nice.

Now still with the LP, dime the volume and use the mid to define the thickness of the sound, at max the mid adds tons of gain but it can get a bit muddy depending on the room your in. This is a good control for matching the amp to your room. You can use the FOC to make it more reasonalbe as to the volume. Like this the amp sings, the leads are screaming, big fat bottom for power chords. Back off the mid and it becomes a bit tamer but still very overdriven.

My favorite way to play this amp is pegged with my G&L legacy and the FOC at 50% (lowest). This really fit's where I am right now musically. Straight in it give a great classic single coil experience. It really lets your fingers dictate on what comes next.

Reliability : No Opinion
I haven't had this one too long, but I have a 2x12 version that I've had for some time, both are built really well, made to be hauled around. I have my 2x12 for back up, so I feel doubly covered.

Customer Support : 8
Call George, email George, bug George, George is cool. As you see I made some changes to the amp to fit my tastes, George answered all my questions over the phone or by email. He knows his stuff.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for almost 40 years. Like many others who have bought an Alessandro I've played though many really nice amps, new and old, but I really like this amp, it's like the missing link.

Amps and tone is all about your own taste, I was really getting into it during the entire 70's to the mid 80's. Then things started out Fender / Marshall and then boogie came along. I've owned 5 different Boogies, I don't own any right now.

This amp gives me that old sound, in a small package that I can play at home, or crank at a local club.

This is way to long of a review! ;-)
