Allen 410 Speaker Cabinet

2001 4x10 Speaker Cabinet, 8 ohms, open back, finger-jointed pine cabinetry, faithful Blackface cosmetics with black tolex (seam on bottom), silver grill cloth, nickel corners, black plastic strap handle, 2 WeberVST C10Q 10" speakers and 2 Allen C1045 TONECONDUCTANCE speakers.

I play a PRS McCarty and a Fender American Fat Strat Texas Special through an Allen Old Flame (see my review) head, which is an amazing replica of a Super Reverb. I mostly play blues and rock. I had an Old Flame 2x10 combo, but wanted a richer tone so I converted the combo to a head cabinet and bought the 4x10 speaker cabinet. It did the trick, the 4 speakers all slightly out of phase delivered the more complex tone that I craved and the resonance of the pine cabinet achieves that magical three dimnesional sound that makes vintage gear lovers salivate.

After a while one or two of the Weber C10Q speakers developed coil rub, which sounds like static on the lowest notes. I had actually previously replaced another Weber C10Q for the same problem, so I decided to try two of Allen's C1045 (45W)TONECONDUCTANCE speakers that David Allen said he had custom made for him. He said that they had a better bass response and he was right. I was concerned that the new speakers might muddy the Webers top end, but all they did was add a smooth tight bottom to an already great sounding cabinet. I definitely recommend this combination of Webers C10Qs and Allen C1045s. The cabinet is built to vintage specs and we all know how many of those old cabinets are still rockin' all over the world every night of the week.

I have dealt with David Allen for several years now and his kind and patient support is second to none - it just doesn't get any better.

I have beeen playing 45 years and I can't imagine a better Blackface style speaker cabinet.
