My amp is an early 70's Silverface Champ chasis in one of David Allen's custom 1 x 12" Champ cabinets. High imput, low imput, the controls have been changed from the stock volume-treble-bass to volume-tone-master volume. The speaker is a Eminence Red White and Blues. 1 Tungsol 6V6 1 Tungsol 12AX7 and Philips 5Y3.
Everything I need for the tone I want.

This is a great set up for home practice, recording, and in a smaller place with a drummer who isn't trying to be the next Keith Moon ( not that there is anything wrong with that! ).
I know you are thinking "7 watts and you need a Master control?". If you have ever sat around your house at the end of a 12' guitar cable with a 7 watt tube amp cranked to saturation and screaming at you, you know why I needed this. The amount of air the speaker can push, the efficiency, and the larger cab really add up to a nice volume boost. David's master volume works great. Turn the volume down and master up I get some great clean tones with a lot more volume than you would expect. Crank the volume up and you start getting Stonesy style grit. When I need a little more I slam the front end with a Fulltone OCD and the amp responds incredibly.
I play a Gibson Les Paul with Burstbucker 2 and 3 pickups, and for Keith riffs or slide I have a Gibson Les Paul Jr. with 1 P-90 that I keep tuned to G. The amp sounds great with either guitar.

It is a single ended tube amp so it does require some up keep. The power tube runs really hot on these, but that is the nature of the beast.

This amp started out as a stock 1x8" Silverface champ, and I keep coming up with new sounds that I hear in my head and David Allen has help me get them. It has been through several incarnations, and every mod David has done has proven bullet proof. If Fender style sound is you thing check him out.

This is actually an Fender Bassman 20 that Mr. Allen performed some modifications to for me. The controls are basic : Volume, Treble, Middle, and Bass. Mr. Allen converted the Middle control to his RAW control. I have placed the chassis in a 1 x 12 combo set-up. The speaker im using is a Celestion G12H80 @ 8ohms. He also converted the lame line-out to a very usefull speaker-out set-up, for driving a cabinet.

STUNNING!, words fail to express what Mr. Allen's mods have done for this amp. The tone controls now a much more useable, and the RAW mod is AMAZING!. My understanding is that it by-passes or removes the tone-stack out of the circuit. The results are a HUGE increase in gain and incredible sound. In addition to this, the amp is now dead quite, even cranked. I play my own style of Texas Blues/Rock, use modded strats and this amp is now PERFECT for what I play.

Although I have just recieved the amp back from Mr. Allen, his reputation of quality work proceeds him. I anticipate ZERO problems with this amp.

Mr. Allen is has been nothing short of FANTASTIC!. He had not worked with this particular amp before, and still worked miracles with it. He found numerous problems and solved them to the great great benefit of the amps tone. His responsive to what I wanted to get out the amp was excellent. Quick e-mails and lot's of communications, and he was beyond patient with me.

Ive been playing for a while, using various strats and tube amps. I would HIGHLY recommend Mr. Allen to anyone who has a Fender tube amp that needs some maintenance or modifications performed. He pricing is extremely fair, work quality outstanding, and the man has a wonderfull disposition. I will be sending amps to him in the near future for service. I would recommend anyone to purchase his other amps and products, with highest possible endorsement. Look at the other reviews, they speak for themselves, alomost all "10"s in the sounds/tone rating. NUFF' SAID!!!!

I found this amp on the Allen website under the used gear section. David built it for personal use I was told. It's basically a low powered bassman circuit on one input and a more plexi voiced circuit with an additional gain stage on the other input. The amp was built in a '70's vibro champ cabinet and stuffed (literally) with a Jensen P12N reissue. Controls are bass, treble, middle, presence. A master volume on the rear, standby switch, and bias jacks. Will run on 6K6, 6V6, and 6L6's.

This is the absolute coolest little amp I've ever owned. Maybe that's because I'm in love with the tweed sound right now, my other main amps are a '67 Deluxe Reverb and a recent Victoria high power twin. the thing I love about this is it's got that great late model tweed sound in a small amp... sorta like a little deluxe but with full tone controls and presence available. I use it with a Les Paul Deluxe, Rickenbacker 330, '58 strat RI, Ric 360/12, etc. It sounds friggin great with all of them. Warm but sparkly and breaks up in that nice tweed way in that you can back off on your picking and clean up or hit it so it bites real nice. The higher gain input is almost over the top as far as bite and treble but with as little tweaking it works real well. Toss a 12AU7 in V1 and it opens up a whole nuther range of possibilities too. The bias jacks make it easy to swap out tubes which can add a good amount of headroom. With the RCA 6K6's that came with it it breaks up at really moderate levels but a set of 6L6's gives it a much higher headroom. Like I said, this is without a doubt the coolest amp I've owned since it basically gives me everything I want right now.. I do own a couple outboard reverb/tremolo which make it a lot easier also when I choose to use that stuff but even without one I'd still love this amp. The fact that it's hidden in a silverfaced vibro champ makes it that much cooler in my opinion. I can't really say enough about this amp right now, it's a keeper and a perfect addition to my little collection of amps which include the BF deluxe, a TV front pro, the Vic Twin, and a couple other oddballs from the 60's thru 80's.

well, it's a simple design, hand wired so it should be good to go for a while. I've only owned it for a short time so time will tell.

I've emailed once about recommended bias settings for the different tube setups and was quickly responded to with a clear and detailed explanation including changes in speaker loads which I hadn't even considered when I wrote the first email but had entered my mind afterwords. I'll do business with Mr. Allen again.

I've owned a lot of different amps over the years from the late 70's till now and had access to many others through friends and roomates and such. I've always loved Fender amps and am suprised to find my favorite "Fender" amp was made by someone else... and recently no less. Nothing but praise for David Allen.
