This is the new style (angled control panel) Nov 2007 4x10 Old Flame.
40 watt, all tube, Fender Black Face Super Reverb style amp.
It has one channel with all the normal adjustments plus a "raw" control that fattens up the mids and adds more drive. Also has a master volume for low volume overdrive.
The only feature I wish this amp had would be a ground switch, but haven't actually needed one.
This is a basic vintage style amp with none of the bells and whistles. It is what is designed to be and does just what I need.

Sound Quality : 10
This amp is just what I was looking for. Big, sweet, smooth sound from and all one piece unit. (combo amp) It absolutely nails that "black face" Fender sound. Crystal clear highs, fat mids and a big full bottom.
I wanted an amp with a great clean sound and get all my overdrive from my effects pedalboard. (aNaLoG.MaN KoT, Beano Boost, Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive). This amp delivers graciously!!
I play a vintage style Strat (06 EJ Strat) and a Gibson ES-345 And this amp is great with both.
I ordered it with the Eminence Ragin Cajun speakers. Although they sounded very good, they didn't have the highend sparkle I was looking for. They were also TOO loud and punchy for me. I upgraded to 4 AlNiCo Tone Tubbys and they really made this amp shine! Smoother and sweeter with that sparkle is was looking for.
This amp is also very quiet for a tube amp. At idle it has NO hiss at all. More quiet than my mid 80's Mesa Boogie Mk III.

Reliability : 10
I've only had this amp a few weeks, however, I have a 2004 Allen Accomplice, that I also love, and have not had a bit of trouble with. These amps have the same basic sound, with the Old Flame just BIGGER!
David Allen is a master builder and the wiring and soldering is just beautiful.
I expect no problems with this amp for many years of trouble free use.

I called David Allen and had many questions when considering this amp. He was a pleasure to talk with and it was nice to be able to talk with the man that actually builds these things one at a time by hand.
When I ordered the amp, he said it would take about 10 to 12 weeks. I marked it on my calender and it came one day less than 10 weeks. I thought that was cool. He knows exactly how long it takes him to build his orders. That was impressive to me.
His amps have a one year warranty. That is fine with me. I feel that if any of the components are gonna go bad, they will do it within a year. Fender amps of the 60's had a one year warranty~

Overall Rating : 10
I'm 47 and have been playing guitar 41 years. I have had and still have several amps and guitars. This amp represents where I am in my career as far as my needs and requirements are concerned.
If it were lost or stolen I would save my cash and give Mr Allen a call and order another just like it.
I love the look, sound and vibe of this fine, vintage style piece of equipment.
I paid $1850 for the amp plus shipping and another $900 for the speakers. Thats $2750 and well worth it in my mind. Just what I wanted!

99 Allen Old Flame 4-10 alnico Webers. singel channel, lush and versatile tone. Three knob reverb. Used out with the band, I love this amp. I wish it had an other input but I'm not sure why.

40 watts A/B all tube and point to point wired. solid pine cabinet birch baffle board

Sound Quality : 9
fantastic classic Fender blackface tone from the 60's. you can coax Marashall or a tweed tones out of this amp as well. the raw controls and post master driver give this amp even more tonal options.
perfect for classic rock, blues, jazz, or country. a bit more clarity or glassy tones would be nice. but I dont' miss it.

Reliability : 10
never had an issue at all,
David is there for any questions and is ver gracious.

Warranty for life, customer service is A1. It is difficult to find a negative word to say about this amp.

Overall Rating : 10
30 year vet, I also have a a 65 Super Reverb, all else is gone.
NO matter how many amps I go through, the Old F,lame remains my amp of choice. used with vintage strat or Les Paul 59 reissue, it comes alive. I have a hard time putting the guitar dwon when playing through this amp. for the money, you can't beat this hand made amp.

Single channel input, Raw control, 3 knob reverb, Bass, mid, treble, and master volume. Mine has a Weber California 15" speaker. And an accutronics 3 spring Reverb Tank. No effects Loop or any other tone Killing bullshit, I replaced the Tubes with NOS tubes and I think that made a Huge difference!

Sound Quality : 10
I am mostly playing Blues and Rock. This amp has the Tone! I Also play a
Blackface Super Reverb and BF Pro Reverb. This amp nails that tone, Except it has a tighter Low end without being Muddy. And the High End is not as shrill as the fenders are. Very Smooth Texas Type Tone!!!!!!!
I Use a Fulltone Fulldrive and a Crybaby Fasel Wah, and a T-Rex Replicator delay! If you cant get a Sound with this Amp you are either Deaf Or Stupid or just cant play!!!!!

Reliability : 10
Built like a Tank! Very Solid Pine cabinet with Blond Tolex. Also Has Bias adjustment in Back of Amp chassis where all Bias Adjustments should be. I am Biasing at 42 milli-amps for some reall good Tube Saturation. I really consider this Amp to be a Better Built Blackface type Amp.

Customer Support : 10
Mr Allen is very Helpfull and knoledgable. Returns calls and E-mails

Overall Rating : 10
I Play Mostly Fender Stratocasters and Blackface Fender Amps. I think the Allen Old Flame is The Best Modern Version you can get to The Blackface Sound. I some ways I think the Old Flame is Much Better.
Better Constuction techniques, Consistant Tone, And real killer MOJO.
I have been Playing Fenders for almost 20 years and have owned almost evry model of Blackface Amps made. The Old Flame is the Best I have ever Heard - No Joke!

I bought this amp as a kit in January, 2002 with 4x10" alnico spkrs. The components used in this amp are top quality, directions are first class and overall the hardware is excellent. The tone controls are complicated with the "raw" control.

Sound Quality : 4
I bought it hoping it was a modern AB763 super reverb but so far have been disapointed, it's been an expensive mistake. I use the neck pickup exclusivley and can't get the mellow singing tones I get from my Vibrolux Reverb. It farts out, has feedback in the reverb circuit, and wants to overdrive too easily. I am going to attempt to salvage this amp by rewiring as close as possible to a AB763 Super reverb

Reliability : 9
No data as of yet, but expect it to be very reliable due to the quality components and expert build.

Customer Support : 10
David Allen is always quick to respond to questions

30 year player, lots of amps and guitars, I probably wouldn't buy another if it were stolen. I love the quality of hardware but I don't love it's tone.

Old flame made by David Allen in 2000. Very beautiful tone out of this monster. Features are standard-vol,mid,bass, but the "raw" switch allows you to dial in just the perfect tone. I also purchased the amp with a 4x10 Weber speaker configuration. I wanted an amp that would duplicate the sound of my old Fender Super. This amp NAILS it right on the money.

Sound Quality : 10
Sweet Sweet Sweet. This amp is a tone monster for blues, rock, country blues and jazz. I play a variety of guitars, mainly strats and teles, and also humbucking PRS and LP's. It doesn't matter what I plug in, it just sounds perfect. I run a rig in stereo with the Old flame and a vintage Fender Super Reverb. Wow the tone I can get. I really love the fact that I can also use my 16+ effect pedal board and these two amps in stereo RULE THE PLANET. I finally found my signuate tone..............Just Beautiful.

Reliability : 10
No problems.....built like a tank.

Customer Support : 9
Never needed any tech support, but I did email David Allen and he returned email promptly.

Overall Rating : 10
LIke I said I have finally, after years of searching and demo work, I have found the tone that I am comfortable with day after day, gig after gig. I would advise anyone to try one of David's amps, they are the real deal.
