same as above. 2 8inch celestians, reverb, 2 channel blah blah blah. dont get me wrong though i like simple in an amp.

Sound Quality : 10
i love the sound of this amp. the distortion sounds great, im playing through a carvin strat with carvin humbuckers and a washburn dimebag guitar with a seymore duncan trembucker. ive also owned and played some strats through it. my favorite sound for this amp is the clean channel with overdrive, it gives me a great classic rock sound. only pedal ive used for it was my marshall delay pedal. ive never seen another one so im keeping this one till its dead.

Reliability : 10
no issues and i bought it used about 3 years ago and i use it for my guitar and electronic drumset.

Customer Support : No Opinion
i imagine ampeg wouldnt support this amp anymore as its pretty old.

Overall Rating : 10
i love this amp. i buy and sell stuff all the time, this is one of the few pieces of gear that i would keep till the end. i highly recommend this amp if you can find one.

Was probably early 90s - tube preamp, solid state power amp, 8" celestion speakers. I play mostly fusion, classic rock. It has a headphone jack and effects loops, and Ampeg's plate reverb, which could use improvement. I wish it had a tube power stage and possibly a standby switch; I use it to record and practice with, and I'd never replace this thing.

Sound Quality : 9
I've been known to use a Les Paul, an Epiphone Sheraton II, a Strat, and a few others through this thing; it's got great tone. It suits what I need perfectly; very versaile, can do anything I need, from clean sound to grunge. The noise is tolerable (has slight hum at high gain, like any amp). The clean channel has a nice distortion sound at high volumes, from overdriving the speakers a little. It's quite nice. I wouldn't mind a little more capability on the overdriven channel.

Reliability : 10
This thing's never broken down, despite being left in the cold and rain. I've never had to replace any parts, despite regular abuse. :)

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with them.

I've been playing since 1982 or so; I currently have a few guitars and this amp. If this were stolen, I'd hunt for another one, definitely. This thing is reliable, and its tone makes the girls cry. I've used Roland amps, Fender amps, Peavey, and Crate.. this one made me replace my Roland, which I dearly loved.

Early 90s amp. Use it for Country and Classic Rock. 2 channel with Chorus and Awesome reverb, has channel switching in front (pull knobs) strange setup for effects loop. Called insert on the front of the amp and needs a Y cable 1/4" plug, headphone jack, jack in the back for chorus and channel switching. Wish it had a speaker out so I could add a 4X12 cabinet. high and low inputs. celestion speakers (although they don't say celestion) Nice tube preamp.

Sound Quality : 8
using an epiphone sg special. The distortion channel works awesome with this. Lots of sustain and can mold sound little. I think the two channels should have been reversed. The clean channel has 3 ban eq but the drive channel only comes with something called ultra mid. also use with an acoustic/electic and clean channel does this justice. I play a lot of country rock ala early eagles etc. and it is perfect for that. The Chorus works great for the acoustic stuff.

Reliability : 8
Seems to be reliable enough and Ampeg has a good reputation for their amps. I would take to a gig without backup. Never had a problem with it but the fact that the preamp tube is exposed in the back gives me a little concern. Need to be very careful when doing anything in the back for fear of breaking it.

Customer Support : 10
Customer support is great! I bought it used, with no manual and although there isn't much to it, I emailed St. Louis Music the distributor for Ampeg for a manual and got it less than a week later, during the Christmas rush they took time to do this...and I think the this is great support..would definatley buy another.

Been playing for 30 years and have had many guitars and amps over the years. This amp tops my list of favorites, even over the marshall I had ten years ago. Lots of features and the only dislike is not having a speaker out, but I can get over that!

This amp has 2 channels, clean and overdrive. Has an excellent reverb and a super chorus. I almost always use the overdrive channel. Seems like it has a punchier tone overall on this channel even with the reverb ands chorus on. What I mainly use this amp for are the reverb and chorus features. This amp has 2 Celestion speakers although I don't know if they were a standard feature on this amp. The Celestions can't be beat IMO.

Sound Quality : 8
I use mainly a Schecter strat and a 77 Tele Deluxe through this amp. They both sound great. My only complaint is the hum this amp puts out, it seems a little high. I've had it 2 yrs and never replaced any tubes. I've never used the distortion too much. I use mostly the chorus and reverb in the clean mode.

Reliability : 8
This amp has been very reliable to me.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never used customer support.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing 20 yrs. If I lost this amp I would buy another. They don't seem to hard to find. I saw one the other day sitting in the music store with 2 12s. The reverb and Celestions are hard to beat.

dont know when it was made, but purchased it in early 90's. it's a pretty versatile little amp! 2 x 8 speaker 2 switchable channel config. I see others have not found the effects loop, but it does exist! the jack on the front panel labeled "insert" this requires a stereo type cabe to use as a effects loop! headphone jack is available. it's better suited in my opinion as a practice amp, or great for recording

Sound Quality : 8
using primarily Charvel,Jackson,& ESP guitars playing a variety of rock styles to metal it serves well! the distortion is quite good, put tends to thin at higher volumes! great reverb, and chorus which makes it sound real nice on the clean channel. you can get a good rock, bluesy sound to a more heavy crunch from it's distortion.

Reliability : 10
this is one of those amps that I just used for fun! never changed the tubes for the 4 years I had it, and then it finally became neccasary!
totaL NEGLECT ON MY PART! other from that it has been very reliable.
I have since given it to my kid brother who has been beating on her pretty good, and still no problems!

Customer Support : 10
dealt with them for other models, since I own quite a variety of them!
decent, helpful, service!

Overall Rating : 8
If I were in the market for a amp of this size, I would definitely buy it again, and would suggest it to anyone looking for a amp of this size! for the cost comparisons, and the quality of the sound it only makes sense!

Compared to bigger amps the Ax-44C is somewhat lacking; no effects loop, speaker out, etc... For its size (really a glorified practice amp) it's not bad. Stereo chorus and outs; clean/dirty channels; headphone out; reverb. My only beef on features is that the dirty channel has a very limited EQ, something called "Ultra-mid" by Ampeg.

Sound Quality : 7
I play a modified '91 strat plus through this amp and have been amazed at the variety and quality of this amp's tones. This is due in no small part to its tube preamp, which can produce some great overdriven and distorted tones. The dirty channel has only one eq knob called "ultra-mid" which can take your tone from heavy crunch to straight rock with a half turn. The clean channel sounds good as well with a fair amount of bass for such a small combo. My current favorite sound is a half-decent twangy/punchy sound that I use for country and rock-a-billy. Over the last seven years I've used this amp to play almost every style of music; jazz, funk, rock, country. Most of the time have been able to get a decent sound for whatever style I've played, wherever I've played it, including the studio, on stage, in practice, or at home. In fact, I used it for recording in a studio despite the availability of other well-known amps. No one will mistake this amp for a Fender Twin or Marshall stack, and you can't just plug in and get a brilliant sound. But with some tweaking you'll be surprised at how good you can get the thing to sound. It's by far the best sounding practice amp I've ever played. Note that I only gave it a seven because it just doesn't sound as good as a true 100% tube amp.

Reliability : 9
I blew out the tube that came with the amp within the first nine months, probably because I played the thing at full volume at all my gigs. Everything else has worked great. For all the abuse this amp has seen, replacing one little tube in seven years ain't bad.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed, no idea.

Overall Rating : 9
They stopped making these babies years ago, but if you can find one it's worth a look. I would expect that you could get one for around $100-150 at most. For that price it's a great amp to use for practice or just to screw around with. Hell, for the price you'd pay it'd be worth buying just for the distortion and chorus effects the preamp can produce. I've played it for seven years and am still finding cool new tones. In fact, when I first bought the amp I used a rack with all sorts of effects, but for the past four years have been very pleased just plugging straight in through a crybaby. To be fair, I may just prefer a more spartan sound these days, or maybe I've gotten better at generating tones through playing as opposed to using effects. Regardless, the thing can still rock when I crank it. This is one of those obscure cheap little amps that the manufacturer probably built a little 'too good' and had to stop making.

This amp is quite versatile.I play rock, funk ,blues, fusion and some standards.I especially like the chorused, slightly distorted jazzy, fusiony sound I can get.Pretty good rock sound, too. It has 2 channels, stereo chorus, headphone jack and stereo line out.No effects loop or extension spkr. jack(bummer). It does have an input next to the reverb knob which is labeled "insert",and I have no idea what this is for. I use this amp at home and to rehearse and gig with a bassist and drummer.I also own a Boogie. It's stereo chorus ,hybrid (1 12AX7)with 2 8in. speakers and is amazingly loud at 70 watts. It has an excellent sounding accutronics spring reverb.

Sound Quality : 7
It suits my style fairly well and has a clarity that many tube amps lack but lacks the warmth and natural breakup of an all tube amp. Still, it sounds pretty good and pretty smooth due to the 12AX7.It's also portable and solidly built.the chorus is nice and the distortion is great considering that it's not all tube.I bought it as a backup but have been using it all the time.

Reliability : 7
I think it would be dependable but havent owned it for very long.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Tried to e-mail Ampeg to get info but they didn't reply.

Overall Rating : 8
considering the price I payed,I think it was a good deal.I wanted to get an amp that would free me from having to worry about tubes and although it's not perfect tone and feature-wise,it's pretty good. For the price I payed,I'd buy it again in a second.Sort of like crate's g40c chorus amp but much louder and much better and smoother sounding distortion
