O.K. this is a late 70's Solid State Amp. The clean tone is easily manipulated to work with any style of music. Has 2 channels with two inputs each (high and low gain) Also has polarity switch. Has tremolo and reverb. I think both are unbeatable! Wish both channels had them instead of just one. This amp sends my friends to the other room at home at 1/4 volume in low input... (but sounds great quiet too)

Sound Quality : 10
It does not have the classic tube sound that so many people are going for. BUT, what it has, it REALLY HAS! Power, clean tone with amazing bottom end, and a reverb that is very liquid and can go on forever (amazing). As far as a clean tone, you can truely run the entire spectrum. So easy to work this amp into any tone. (and with any guitar). Again,...amazing power. Many amps can get loud, but this is the only amp I know of that can maintain clear sound and awesome bottom end at this extreme volume (without spending more than $1500 used)It can shake and blow eardrums in a bar full of 200-300 people without a mic, and sound amazing doing it.

Reliability : 10
no backup required,...Never had a problem in three years so far.

Customer Support : No Opinion
hard to find info. Ampeg was owned by Magnavox when this was made,...so i would guess it might be difficult. Just not sure.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for six years,...Got a great old tube pre-amp for when i want that classic tube vibe. Threw away the old fender tube amp and my buddy with a $1600 vox tube amp is quite envyous of my sound. I pretty much just play my Telecaster through it far all syles of music. Like the others,..I can't believe how little I paid. Kind of feels like stealing.

Made in USA in the seventies, very versatile Amp, has two channels, awesome reverb and tremolo. He is a monster, too heavy, weight 38 kg.
But for it, it is the best clean amp I has ever belonged.
Equipped with two 12 " heavy duty Eminence Speakers. Has twochannels which one can justage very well.

Sound Quality : 10
One can justage the sound from warmly jazzig to ultra Hi, that properly sounds after tube, remains clean also with high volume. The Eminence Speaker brings every tone without loss over here. The sound is rich in middles, he sounds like Twin Reverb and AC 30 together. Incredibly.

Reliability : 10
My amplifier is more than 30 years old, but still works flawlessly like during the first day. He is built very robustly. Been used of course the best materials.

Customer Support : 10
Ampeg is known by good Support, but this amp is built for the eternity, never seems to break.

Overall Rating : 10
I play for 40 years of guitar, play in an Oldieband, and I play A lot instrumental music, this amp is the best for my music direction, has the best results for Shadows, Spotnicks etc. on the stage he blows off all other.

Made in the seventies, Solid state 2x12 combo, Very F@#$%n heavy, Like everyone has said, you WILL need to add casters, or a heavy duty back brace and some pain killers. Two channels, four inputs, no loop, Pretty old school but solid as a brick shithouse. No footswitch, get an a/b box if you wish. I modified mine however....

Sound Quality : 9
....because, I blew the damn speakers! I bought this from an old lady who ran a bar I used to frequent. Had it sitting in a storeroom for about 18 years. I bought it took it home plugged in and almost went deaf, DAMN, THIS THING IS LOUD!!!!. Well i started twiddlin the knobs and having fun and realized that this thing is'nt really a distortion machine, but I'e alws got a good pedal around, so this isnt a problem. I plugged an ART Power plant into it and got a great over drive sound, added my boss EQ and was eating marshalls for lunch. One day the speakers went kaput and I was Fucked. Went and bought a marshall MG 100 head and hated it. Drummer could'nt hear me. So one day I was looking at the ampeg and decided in my mind ithat it would make a killer head. Thats right, a Head. So I took it apart, stripped the carpet, (collectability be damned I bought and paid for it!) Cut the cabinet and recovered it in tolex, added some treadplate and plugged it into my Carvin V412, 400w cabinet, and god ,this thing smokes, will drown out 2 drummers,no kidding. Fat ass low end will bring out the best in any pedal distortion, clean sounds fat and clear, lots of headroom. Just a killer amp to use any pedals with. Metallers WILL need to add a distortion pedal in front of this, but it will also work for jazz, blues country.anything is possible. Excellent reverb, kinda bizarre tremolo that some may find useful.

Reliability : 10
Let me put it this way. Before i converted it, It sat on my mothers front porch, covered with a rain coat for 3 years . After I converted it, I plugged it in for the first time in three years, and it fired right up. No problems, no worries since then. I've run it for many hours since then. This thing is bulletproof, solid well built.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Bought it used, don't know. I'm sure theres info out there somewhere, and ampeg dealers could probably help you.

I currently run my setup as follows

Ibanez RG 570 or Ltd M100 w/duncans+ Boss NS-2+Boss MT-2+Boss GE-7Boss CE-3+Boss EH-2+Boss NS-2+ This Ampeg Head+Carvin V4x12 Cabinet.

I have been playing for about 16 years mostly jammin at home and with friends. I love this amp and if it were stolen I will kill the guy who stole it by braining him over the head with the head. I am totally happy with my setup now, I can get any sound I like and need with a pedal and plenty of volume, more than I really need. I you see one sale but it if you are a pedal tweaker, it will reward you with a solid canvas to build pedal based tones on. It is better than having a modeling amp setup for me as I can add any pedal I want, ad find the best combination that suits me and Im not tied to ones I don't.

Features? This amp was made in the 1970's when stadium venues were king, it has reverb and tremelo pretty standard for any amps of that day. They sound great, not that I am a fan of anybody's tremelo so on that feature I defer. I like all my effects seperate so this amp suits me well.
From left to right it has the following:
2 channels each with high and low gain inputs and depending on what I want to play I will use each one.
ch1- vol- bass- mid- treb knobs, and 2 rocker switches 1 is a 3position for mid 300-800-3000Hz the other switch is ultra high.
ch2 same as ch1 but add to it reverb (dimension knob)
and tremelo 2 knobs 1 for speed and the other for intensity. Power light and on/off rocker switch.
Back left to right: grounded ac power outlet 500 watt max. 2 outputs saying 8ohm min. Preamp out 600ohm min (I'm affraid to know! lol!)with an arrow pointing into the port and another coming out pointing to the next port with the following ".28 volts for full power" and above the second port it says "Power amp in high Z". I only understand that "Z" means impedance but what are you supposed to do with all of that?
I can't imagine that the average player needs any more power out of this thing, the volume that it can produce great sounds at is possibly lethal!! I mean you should get clearance from air traffic control before firing this up beyond 3/4 you might drop planes and you'd better call your local utilities before turning the monster up all the way because you're gonna break ground!!! Very heavy like the others have said so I mounted some heavy duty casters to it. Enough said.

Sound Quality : 10
I have tried this with all of my current effects and guitars listed below in overall rating. I have under the bridge piezos on my acoustics I keep channel one set for them. My electrics have humbuckers on the Pauls and singles on the Strat. I don't have any noise problems from it but do get noise from the singles or when I tap the coils on my Pauls and from the Crybaby.
I play bluesy/classic rock on my electrics and contemporary worship and improv-classical on my acoustics. This amp handles all of it with simple adjustments.
This can get great sounds in all ranges that I've tried. I like thunder in my lows and when the settings are oriented to low this thing has more bottom end than a Richard Simmons video.
This is actually the second one of these that I have owned. The first bought used in 1980-81 loved it too that one had replacement speakers in it and they rocked as well.

Reliability : 7
No tubes so very reliable. No problems. giving it a 7 since I don't usually use it out but the previous one I did and had no trouble with either unit.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never Had to deal with them. Amp is nearing 3 decades old no warranty. Ampeg big name I'm sure lots of people work on these.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing since the 70's I've traded my hopes of being a rock star with big hair for a worship band and a shiny scalp.
If it were stolen I would'nt go after any guy that could run off with something this heavy, I'd just wait for another and hope that I had cash when I saw it. The only down side to it is the weight.
I chose this one beacuse I had one years ago that I loved (it was covered in some nasty matted fur instead of tolex). Someone had it listed wrong on Ebay (now that's the way to get a great deal) they had the title all wrong as an amp that never existed but they took great pictures they let me pick it up instead of ship it and so I didn't have to pay s/h!!
Here's the equipment that I have.
GUITARS:
Vantage VP825 (see www.therathole.org for specs)Japan
Vantage "The Ghost" (rathole) Japan
Vantage VS500EQS (maybe see Samick) Korea
Vantage VIE-10SB (Proably Samick) No country of origin or s/n to identify.
Briarwood DR3ERCDS (see Peavy.com) and http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data4/Peavey/Briarwood_DR_3ERCDS-1.html

EFFECTS:
DeArmond Volume pedal (makes stuff louder/quieter go figure)
Soviet Big Muff Pi (ok but not as good as classic EH)
Dunlop Cry Baby (love it but picks up local radio station)
Dano- Hashbrowns (flanger -love it), Milkshake (chorus- like it),
Blt (slap echo- hate it).
Digitech RP100(total garbage through any amp, makes a good door stop)

i am unsure where the amp was made
amasing versatile amp, i play power pop/rock.
my music is lots of vintage effect pedals so i need best clear sound to do the guitar & pedals justice.
best clean sound ever (beats fender twins, vox ac15 and some marshall combo i've tried)
2 channels 4ins 2 per channel, no channel switching no effects in channel 1 but 2 has tremello very good similar to my colorsound but the colorsound has mor depth and rate.
reverb: this is the shit!!!
wow it blew me away at 12 it is just audible, 3 is great/still playable, all the way up you cannot even recognise the guitar is there, i hated reverb till i heard this baby.
there are two outs for two more cabnets? up to you.
this is everything i need or want sound wise.
i use this amp for my pop band, rock band, instramental band, electro/pop band, it can do anything, itdoes not have any gain/distortion, but i have a collection off effect pedals and i like to run distortion before effect anyway.
at home this solid state amp is too loud
on stage it is too loud, i don;t even have to mic it up 1 channel set to half = 100 people: ch2 all the way up = 150-200,
if i wanted to blow anyone away i could just run the two outs into the three other inputs to make it louder.

i said solid state, this sounds great i hated solid state till i heard her, she shines in recording, just plug the out into you 4 track and she sounds great, i never heard a better amp in the studio

Sound Quality : 10
i use a mosrite style guitar made by tym guitars (www.tymguitars.com.au)
vibratone deluxe #00015 mine has strat single coil at neck and double single coil at the bridge, i never use the neck pickup except for when i use my ebow
tim makes the best guitars all hand made no cookie cutters or mass produced crap!! all character unlike the "big" companies
this clean amp is very loud i have taken it to three quarters up and it sounded clear but my ears were fried

Reliability : 9
i had all the pots replaced cost me $70 and it was perfect. i don't use a backup
(it played up the first year till i became tired of the poping, turned out to be only the pots. thats the only reason it gets a nine)

Customer Support : No Opinion
not sure there is no info on this amp, but ampeg is a good company

Overall Rating : 10

if my amp was ever lost or stolen i would cry. and maybe track the bastard down!!

i love the fact it is too loud at home and on stage and practicing and is perfect for recording
i hate it ways a tone!!! all i did was spend $20 and bought 4 wheels and a piece of wood, attch them together and your back will thank you!
this amp beats fender twin red dial, vox ac15 and marshall combo (new one not sure wat it's called prob some kinda blues name)
this one sounds great, it was cheep, it's very rare no one knows about it, always too loud(thumbs up), suits averything i want.

70's beast this thing is a monster, I'm a dyed in the wool valve man but..... .....this amp will eat ANY Marshall head and cab instantly. Two channels no footswitch you'll need an AB box to play around. No fx loop but I play in a rock band not a boy band. Headphones again why? neighbours are their to be thrashed! The reverb is huge like a train coming from 3 miles, twin peak sounds are way easy. The trem is a bit odd as it does work but not as I'm used to. The nearest thing I've heard with such clarity bottom end and trem is my old Vox AC100 head, but this eats that alive as well. Its not pretty or for the faint hearted but what a beast.

Sound Quality : 10
Its all clean with no loss of signal clarity. Even compared to a bassman this is something special the bottom end will move objects, people, windows like your on the set of Poltergeist without distorting. My band plays hard rock mixing death metal with punk, blues and anything else we can nail down it does the lot. As for distortion get the best pedal you can, Big Muff and you can sack the bassplayer as its got that much bottom and no horrid fizz to the dynamics.

Reliability : 10
The amp is built like a tank, mine came with flight case and wheels. If you get one I would recommend this mod, otherwise you'll end up like Arnie or playing in a wheel chair lol. If it were to break down it would be due to an elephant standing on it and thats about it, no tubes to fry just solid totally solid.

Customer Support : 5
Like all vintage kit you spend your money and take your chances, but I would bet my house that it wouldn't let you down. If it works in the shop and they've serviced it before you buy it, then get one.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for nearly nine years now and this year my band(Chong) will be playing at Glastonbury on the travellers site. I pity anything in a half mile radius that dont like to rock. Its just a beast pure and simple, very basic bloody brutal. I've had Vox's,Crates an Marshalls tried most everything else in my local shops and this thing eats all of them. Hands down its the daddy, Ampeg should re-issue it as its that good. AB box and a Big Muff and you'll be a stoner rock monster, rare as gnats teeth as well kudos for rarity. In all honesty I'd quite happily go toe to toe with a nu-metaller armed with a Mesa stack and know I'd fry em flat.

I haven't been able to get much info about when this amp was made. I posted to newsgroups several times, but never found anybody else who has actually owned or even seen this amp. The said from what they could tell, it was probably from the early 70's. Basically, this amp is a Solid State 120 watt RMS with 2 12" speakers. I use this amp to play a lot of blues, and a lot of surf oddly enough. This amp has a really nice sounding reverb, I mean, it's almost got more reverb than I need, it's great. I hear that most ampegs are like that, but this is the only one I've tried. The tremolo is kind of odd sounding, I don't know why, it just seems to have a different kind of sound to it. I've seen other people talking about an afterbeat on ampeg tremolos, this could be what is making it sound weird, I don't know. It's a good weird though, I like the tremolo, and I find uses for it all the time in stuff I play. The amp has 2 channels, one clean, one with reverb/tremolo. They both have a low input and high input. The amp has a footswitch for the reverb/tremolo. The amp has two really cool features that I really like. It has a "ultra-high" switch on each of the channels. This basically just seems to add more high. I usually keep it on. The other cool feature is a frequency switch on the mids. It has 3 selections, 300, 800, and 3000 Hz. It just selects what frequency the mid-adjustment adjusts. It amazes me how much of a different sound you can get just by moving that switch, the change is very noticeable. is 120 Watt RMS. It has two 12" celestions, one labeled G12-30 which is 8 ohms, and the other is G12-65 which is 15 ohms. I have no idea if these are the original speakers or not. Right now, I'm only using the lower ohm speaker, the other one was busted when I bought it and have not gone about getting it fixed, I don't realy need it fixed right now, I'm not playing in a band or anything, so it's already loud enough for the bedroom warrior that I am. However, should I get it fixed, and still not be loud enough, there a place I can plug in an extension cabinet. It has two outputs labeled 600 ohm extension amp. I have no idea what that means exactly, I mean, is taht 600 watt max? I think most of the time I hear people talk about extension amps I hear things like 16 ohms, or 8 ohms, I never hear anything that high.

Sound Quality : 10
I have been using a danelectro 56-U2, up until the other day, I just bought a Danelectro Hodad (the kind with the big wang on it). I run that into a danelectro fab-tone (get's used sometimes), and then into a danelectro Daddy-O (gets used a whole lot). This amp is perfect for everythign I play. I mainly play rock/blues, but I also play a lot of surf music and other old like 50's and 60's style music. Every now and then I veer off into playing jazz and funk. SO far this amp has had a setting for everything. WIth the EQ knobs and those two little buttons, I can get all sorts of tones out of it. This amp does have a little hiss when you crank it up. It's not really noticeable when you are playing, but if you stop it is audible. I think if you were playing for a crowd it would be inaudible when you stop playing, it's not very loud, but it is kind of loud. IT is definately the amp making the noise, as I have turned the volume on my guitar down all the way and it still makes the hiss. One thing I really like about this amp is that it is CLEAN! I have turned this amp up to about 3 o'clock, and it is perfectly clean. There is no hint of distortion coming from the amp or the speaker. I haven't turned it up any louder than that though, but when I turned it up that loud, it was way too loud for my house, it kind of hurt my ears it was so loud, so, I'm guessing if I got the other speaker fixed, that it could handle any club venue I wanted to play when I get a band going.

Reliability : No Opinion
This amp seems to be well built. It weighs a ton for what it is. It has a thick body on it made out of real wood. I haven't gigged with it, but I would gig without a backup with it. It's very sturdy.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I love this amp. I have only found 2 things about it before, I did a search on yahoo, and it returned three relevant links. Two were for music stores selling the amp, both of them were about $500, and the other was an interview with the guitar play for Mike Watt saying that he uses it and he loves it. I would not trade this amp for anything. It has clean tone up the wazoo, and if I want good distortion, there's hundreds of distortion pedals out there I could try. This amp is not a huge cabinet, so I can actually play with it in my bedroom without bothering my neighbors, but at the same time, I can crank it up and really piss of my neighbors. This amp is the perfect amp for me, I can't believe it was only $200. I mean, I may have gotten ripped off for all I know, I really have no clue what the actual value of this amp is, but I I would probably pay up to $600 for this amp because it seems just like the amp that was built just for me.
