The ads and packaging say 8 inch speakers but, I opened the cabs to find two VERY high quality 10's which absolutely sing and when desired, scream. You can get dark, smooth tones or bright crunchy tones and leads. Basically anything from jazz to country to blues to neo metal or industrial metal. The range of tones is everything you could hope for and the volume is pretty sizable for 20 Watts RMS driving two 10's.
It performs just as well for lead as it does rhythm, a nice response sensitive amp. I use every type of guitar and pickup on this amp as well as cords and wireless.

The reverb is limited in depth due to the tank being so small but has a really great sound. You get a nice, focused room style reverb that delivers the sound you get from a mic being a couple feet away from a woofer. Basically if gives you some sustain but mostly the effect of larger cabinet and room resonance.

I've used the DOD Death Metal distortion on this amp, they like each other.
I regularly use the Zoom G2, they LOVE each other.
I used the Behringer GDI21(Sansamp clone)-the Zoom would be insanely jealous to know it had been cheated on!
Basically the tones are amazing on the clean channel when you use a pedal or processor with stand alone distortion that can..stand on it's own, lol. Kick it off and you have your beautiful cleans.

If you are looking to overdrive the dirty channel, you won't get metal tones without REALLY going through a lot of pedals. It gives you a more classic overdrive for blues and jazz. This amp shines with distortion pedals on the clean channel rather than overdrive pedals on the dirty channel.

The most notable thing about it all is, while it lacks tube compression you can in fact get that harmonic saturating chime out of the distortions that is basically only associated with tubes. This is EXTREMELY rare with solid state chip amps...maybe 1 out of a hundred individual designs will pull it off. You get that sparkle even with the treble trimmed down, die hard tube heads should be quite pleased.

This is the perfect amp for the studio or bedroom. I play neo metal, do a lot of touch/tap playing and of course like to bust out hot rodded blues licks, jazz and a hint of everything else often enough.
Oh yeah, it's also nice and quiet.

Reliability : No Opinion
It's well built, I've had it for around a year but it's been a slave to the bedroom. It's been knocked over and moved around a few times but no scars as of yet or shorted jacks/pots.

Overall Rating : 10
Aside from the lack of depth to the reverb, I really can't reference a substantial short coming to the design or performance. The preamp circuit is incredibly basic but it really delivers all across the board. I can't get over the tube chime it delivers without having the need to compress the clipped signal.

I'm not so sure they could produce a full sized, high watt head version of this amp that would perform as well since the distortion would need to be far more versatile but for a potent practice and recording distortion pedal amp, it delivers more than can be asked for. It's loud, responsive, smooth, tender, punchy, bassy, thick and just a very dynamic instrument. If it were destroyed, lost or stolen, I would be pretty upset. This amp has taken over for my daily playing that was once reserved for my stack and half stack. I have a Behringer GM110 V Tone I really love but it's been collecting dust since I got this mini stack.
VERY recommended instrument.

Well as said before it's a 20 Watt Head and two cabs.
The Head has spring reverb, lineout, 3 Band EQ, Gain, Overdrive switch, Volume control and 2 speaker outs. The nice detail about this little sucker is very interesting though: you have a gain control that actually controls also the clean channel which is great and quite rare in this price-tag. Than you have a real spring-reverb, a very low noise rate (even if used with single coil PU's) and the cabs are the greatest. You have 10" ashdown BASS speakers in 'em! Which means you'll get great definition on low-end without getting too muddy!

Sound Quality : 10
The clean sound is awesome! I don't really like the overdriven channel but I have tons of stuff I can put before the head making the clean channel just go nuts (even at bedroom levels)...
The sound is great (very good definition on highs, mids and even lows and remember its NOT valve driven) but don't forget this is a bedroom amp! If you want serious sound mic up two 4x12's with 3-4 mics, if you want to have great reliable bedroom-sound for short money with that little stylish something you can't go wrong with this one!
I've played in several metal-bands and this surely will NOT be loud enough to rehears seriously but loud enough to record some nice demos if using the right mics and know-how.

As it fits my needs perfectly I'll give it a 10...

Reliability : 5
Build to survire world war 3! I took it apart (as I always do with all of my gear) to check how it was made. It's built very well, but the wood work is not that precise. Cool thing is it has some nice security features to not blow the head instantly if using wrong cables (that you can see only if you open the head - be aware of the possibility of loosing the warranty by doing so) ...
But I haven't had it for long enough so time will tell how good the design really is.

I never give more than 5 points unless I've beaten the shit put of the gear for at least 2 years and it is still doing great!
But if used with care you shouldn't have problems as for all ASHDOWN-stuff.

Never talked to them but I think it's strange that you can't find this one on their home-page (or maybe I'm to stupid to find it) :)

Great if bought for what it really is! A let down if bought because:
- you wanted a small giggin-amp (the previous owner sell it to me because it wasn't loud enough)
- you want a marshall sound (but forget about the MG Ministack too, it just really sucks and costs WAY too much)
- you want heavy sound WITHOUT pedals/fx
- you need a cheap amp to rehearse with the band (a metal-drummer will cover it completely... go fo a crate PowerBlock if you can find one)
- you want high quality recordings (get some serious studio gear for that)

But buy it because its a great amp for small place/bedroom playing with a higher sound- and built-quality (than 95%of its competitors) and a damn great amp for its price!

Very classic tube tone.
It's extremely thick with dark toned speakers, it sounds like an amp Hendrix would have loved, possibly even designed if he were still alive today. SRV too, basically that intense lead blues tone that metal was later born out of as guys modified their gear.

You're not going to get a metal rhythm tone out of this amp unless you find a pedal that will dominate it's preamp. It has a very thick lead tone however which is suitable for every style. I overdrive it with my TS7 and the two are a match made in heaven..or hell depending on your playing style.
There really isn't much compression once you overdrive it's dirty channel but I do get a nice honking, enveloping effect which will please tube heads. The reality is, chip amps do the same thing tube amps do only much much better these days.

The clean is very rich and potent. Beyond that I don't ask for anything other than definition which it also has.

The reverb is a 2 spring reverb. I have kept it maxed and it's very subtle but you do hear it. When maxed, it's basically perfect but it would be nice if it had a little more headroom and you could drop your sound into a valley or stadium.

The wattage does a great job driving these 10's. The tonal characteristics do change if you only drive one speaker though because of the resistance change. You get more mids and a tiny bit more highs when run this way.
I was however disappointed when I tried running one of my half stack cabinets. 20 watts really is enough juice to push 4x10's or 4x12's but the EQ just doesn't have enough balls to push enough bass through them.

Overall, it's a very vintage, tube lead tone but a bit more dynamic than tubes BUT, it's a very open sound meaning, there isn't any noticeable compression taking place in it's preamp. You'll have to rely on your overdrive pedal for this.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've only had it a week and a half but I did have a good look at the guts and physical construction, I would expect this amp to last a good 30 years or more if treated decently and would expect it to be able to take some nasty spills without getting anything beyond cosmetic damage.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I'm not sure but maybe I'll contact them just for the hell of it.

Overall Rating : 8
I do need to interject that I did modify this amp but, I modify basically every piece of music gear I get my hands on. One cab was modified, one was left factory. I also installed a socket to get rid of the dreadful JRC4558 chips everyone likes to use because they're the worst op amp that could be used, ugh!
My TS7 tube screamer is also modified but it's not really a factor to how a factor tube screamer will sound.

I'm really glad I bought this amp.
While I can get these tones out of my other amps, it's overall voicing and preamp characteristics are naturally different from anything I own. It has very dark toned speakers with a preamp that has a potent level of treble gain if desired. You get a really great honking, enveloping response as I like to describe it. It has a full on vintage tube gain only without the set backs of tube.

The price almost seemed a little steep compared to other amps of this nature but since it's 3 piece and you're getting 2 cabinets, I paid a fair price. I would probably replace it if it were destroyed but I can't guarantee, I'm getting into DIY amp design and building which gives me quite a different option to buying something off the commercial market.

I do wish the reverb had a 3rd spring for more depth but possibly a higher value pot will enable more signal to pass through the reverb circuit and of course, I was disappointed at first that I couldn't get a metal rhythm crunch but this is a good thing in a way since I already get this tone out of my other 5 or 6 amps.

I think this amp is dancing between the 7-10 range for both sound and just overall rating because if I want metal crunch, I have to switch to another amp. That's a setback if you're wanting to change up tones and you don't have another amp handy and use a pedal that can't dominate it's preamp.
Still a really great amp!..I probably would replace it.
