WEll.. This amp is clean. 185 pounds for a valve amp. I think this is fair. A fender Blues Junior amp cost you 350 pounds

I think mine was made in 2001, at least that's what I get from the sticker in the back. It's a hybrid amp with one tube in the preamp. Got it as a bargain on Ebay. Just had sold my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (how could I DO something like that!!) because that was way too loud to even think about pracicing at home. The Kidd serves all my needs for a practice amp - 2 channels, effects loop, spring reverb, headphone jack - very cool features. Came with an Ashdown footswitch. I use it strictly as a practice amp as I am normally playing bass. My style: blues, Rock, Heavy Metal. I also try to honk on the blues harp on that thing! I only wish it had also a tube in the poweramp. But then again - it was a bargain...

I use it with a lot of different guitars - an Epi Les Paul, a Washburn Power Strat Clone and a GIbson 335-style Univox. In my opinion the LP just produces the classic rock/blues tones in the "Tube Stage" (2nd channel)with no effort at all, considering that those are the stock humbuckers. Also great warm clean sounds. With the Univox, it's also plenty of classic tone. Really fine! With the washburn, you want to go for the clean channel w/spring reverb - simply great! The contour knob gives you plenty of tonal variety.
As I mentioned I also tried to use it with the blues harp and it also sounded good. Although it's not supposed to be in the range of "Class A"-distortion that you hear on the old records. The clean channel just don't break up at reasonable volumes. If it does, you get a lot of feedback. All in all, it's got enough variety for me. For Blues harp I think I'll get myself a Champ or a Peavey Classic.

I just bought this half a year ago, it didn't fail me once. But I only use it at home or maybe take it to rehearsals (that's just to try the blues harp at high volumes). As mentioned by somebody before, it does rattle a little bit on certain frequencies, but seems solid enough. So I would gig with it for sure - if I only had a gig as a guitar player...One of these days I'll also try and do a little harp gig with it - but I think it would have to be miked to make it against guitars and drums.

I just contacted Ashdown a few days ago, because I wanted to know more about the tube and the cover it has. They replied very fast, but the guy didn't even know that that amp has a tube in it. Very friendly guy who told me the Kidd series had just been a "test balloon" for a new manufacturer. Never dealt with them otherwise, as the amp hasn't failed me yet.

I've been playing since...15 years it must be now. As I play bass mostly, I also got an Ampeg B-1, but that's of course no comparison. I've had a Roland solid state amp as a practice amp, but this beats it completely. The Roland had plenty of effects built in but sucked completely when it came to distortion - it simply didn't sound "natural". The Kidd just has got that raunchy, singing overdriven sound that you normally would associate with much more expensive amps. I think I would buy another one (although I won't get such a good price again) if it were stolen or lost, because it looks cool, is really light and has got lots of classic tone - yeah, you could say I love that thang!

Brand new 2003 model, hybrid practice amp with a 12AX7 in the preamp circuit for both clean and drive sounds. Two channels, clean and drive. Clean has vintage-like single volume, bass and trreble, whilst the drive channel has the same, but with the gain and contour controls. Spring reverb available to both channels, two 8" celestion speakers and a rating of 20 watts.

I was really suprised by this amp! I use both Les Pauls and strats with this little amp, and it does them both justice. The les paul drives the amp a little more, even in the clean channel. The reverb works suprisingly well, adds a nice feeling of space to the amp. Playing through the clean channel turned up 2/3rds of the way sounds really good, especilally with the higher output humbuckers. At this volume the pair of 8" celestion speakers start to break up, and this just adds to the character of this amp. It almost goes into champ category. With strats the clean channel is sweet, especially with the reverb halfway.
The drive channel makes most of the 12AX7 and produces some classic tones. By carefully setting the contour control/ mid control, you can go from SRV to Kossof to whatever! with both types of pickup it can handle different styles of rock with surprising ease.
The only grumbles i have is that the chassis does start to vibrate at louder volumes, and a heavy buzz/rattle comes through to you. The other is that it seems to be lacking in volume slightly! I know it's a practice amp, but a 30-35 watt version would be the ultimate recording tool!

An excellent practice amp for the money, far better than the Marshall crap! It outstrips the marshall in both clean an drive, for only #30 more! For small practices it is great, but i need that little bit more volume! Well worth the money!

This amp has all the features I want in a Practice amplifier. See other review for full spec. It is loud enough, soulds great, records well, great through the headphones - what else do you need?

Plenty of tonal variation on both channels. The contour control gives great tonal change on the overdrive channel. Reverb is good but not great. The cover on the spring reverb worked loose on my amp. Easy to refit - but needed to take the amplifier section out.

This amp was a bargain. I bought it s/h with a few other bits and pieces. Sold the bits and pieces and ended up getting the amp for next to nothing. My Fender Yale reverb is now confined to the garage. I play a Godin Radiator through it and sounds really bright and as loud as you would want it to be. Also, an Epiphone Les Paul which can cause the speakers to rattle on some settings - even quite low. It sounds great through the headphones - no background noise to speak of at all. Never seen these amps before, but would consider buying another just as a spare. Highly recommended.

I am not sure when the amp was manufactured. Most likely in 2001. This Tube Hybrid amp features 2 footswitchable channels (the footswitch is not included), Clean & Tubedrive. The Tube Drive channel has a 12AX7 tube in the gain stage. The Tube Drive channel has controls for Gain, Contour, Treble Bass & Volume. The Clean channel has controls for Volume, Treble and Bass. The front panel also features a Reverb level control, push botton for channel switching, and a headphone jack. The rear panel features a foot switch jack, and Power Amp In and Pre/Line Out jacks Z(Effects Loop). The speakers are two 8" Celestions. I am a little concerned about the validity of the fact that the the speakers are Celestions as I compared the speakers to the 8" Marshall Gold Back speaker in my Marshall Valvestate VS15R amp and the speakers are exactly the same except for sticker on the back. Perhaps Celestion also makes the speakers for Marshall amps?
The amp is rated at 20 watts and has more available volume on tap than I will ever need will ever.

The guitars I play through the amp are 1982 Gibson Les Paul Standard with a Seymor Duncan '59 in the Bridge position, a stock 1977 Gibson L6S, and a mid 80's Kramer Focus 3000 with a Seymor Duncan JB pickup in the Bridge position. Each guitar has its own distinct sound which come across nicely through the amp.
I play a wide variety of music from The Beatles to System Of A Down.
The clean channel is the nicest and warmest sounding of any amp I have had so far. The Tube Drive channel can go from mild crunch to screaming metal distortion. For more flexability I use a Distortion box through the clean channel for milder classic rock distortion and switch to the Tube Drive Channel for Metal tones. I just got a new Digitech RP200 Modeling Guitar Processor which opens it up for even a wide variety of sound.
The amp is very quiet with just a slight hum when the Tube Drive channel is selected although most of that hum is from my old DC powered Morley Wah Pedal.

Before buying the Kidd I had my eye on the Marshall AVT50 but chose the Kidd since it has all of the same features as the AVT50 at a much lower price and a more reasonable volume level.
I have been playing for 30 years and have owned many amps over the years and the Kidd is my favorite so far. I would buy it again if it were lost or stolen.
