Atomic Amps 112-18

Bought used from E-bay as preparation for buying a Fractal Axe-fx.
Saw it going cheap so jumped in and bought it, as at the price I could easily sell-on if it didn't work out.
Bare necessity's as regards controls, would benefit from a master vol.knob as you get the best from modelers at top-wack so I run into a
Roland Fv.200 to limit the gain, and mike-up the Atomic.
When the box came I saw the dreaded MADE IN CHINA' on the side and thought, OH'NO' another bit of hyped kit.WRONG! these things grow on you.

I am running a Tonelab SE into it at present, with a Godin LGXT, and Brian Moore i9-13, also my own ANGELLO_CLASSIX' guitars which IMHO' beat most guitars into dust for value and sound(I would say that wouldn't I). First impression was uuuu'm so what is the hype? then I got to tweak and play with my settings and gig by gig I fell in love with the oriental-built sound monster, I LOVE IT!

Throw it down the stairs and it may break, gig it and handle well it will last you out.

NO idea, but they have now joined Fractal-Audio as a twin concern so the Legendary Fractal customer support wil be in place

I have boldly gone for some 46yrs searching for the grail-of-tone, trying and discarding all kinds of gear on the trek'.I think the concept is great, the amp is great, all it needs for me is a master-vol
but that's my opinion and can be easily sorted.I would not hesitate to get another one. My next move is to get the Axe-fx, but am waiting to see if they bring out an Atomic+ Axe-fx built in option .

As stated, pure tube power section for modelers and floorboards
Input jack for floorboards, docking station for modeling boxes (Pods, Vamp, Tonelab)
Effects dual send RL, can acts as send to external effects processor or to daisy chain to another reactor for stereo
Dual EL-84 tubes setup for 18 watts into a high power 12" speaker housed in a ported closed back cabinet (I like closed back, as it doesn't beeld though the wall it's against)
The cool part is the docking bay setup, templates are available for POD 2.0, PODXT - X3, Vox tonelab, Behringer V-amp and +, M-Audio Black Box. As well as a blank template for outboard processors and floorboards.
Each template includes the proper wiring harness to not only handle the input output, but also power the unit with no walwart.
Pretty freakin cool if you ask me.

I play a little of everything, a wannabe shredder with decent licks but lackluster practice ethics, "I coulda been a contenda".

It did not take to some of my GNX3 models to well and farted out on me at first, pissing me off terribly. Once I learned to adjust the outyput parameters it sounded really good. You model it, it plays what you model. If it sounds bad, YOU fix the model.
I bought a PODx3 to go in it and this really opened up the sound, as well as time spent screwing with the models.
I gotta give it a 9 because it really sounds great for an 18 watter. I hated it for a week as it replaced my Fender Metalhead 400watt 1/2 stack, until I realized it was a different animal and treated it so.

Tone is relevant, if you use a crappy modeler, you will get crappy tone, but the sound is pretty darn pure

Called Atomic, this guy is really nice but a little busy. took a mointh to get Mushroomhead screws, but he did me good on them

I think I would opt for the 50, but truthfully, where would I use it.
The 18 is VERY loud and decently punchy, but not chest thumping like I was used to.
For the money (used) I couldn't beat it. I was using my floorbaord sounds almost exclusively through the Clean channel of the fender, so it works great for me.

The amp is basically a power amp with very little features per say, especially since I use a PODxt live. If I had the beanie version then the amps docking station is very original and useful. Amp has effects loop and input, that's it. It also features tube power with a single 12" speaker.

This amp has changed how I play guitar, literally. This has been the single biggest improvement in sound I have experienced in my 10 years of playing. I am using it with an EC sig strat and a Les Paul standard, as well as a PODxt live.
The sound is VERY big, and unbelievable powerful sounding. With a nice Nothing Else Matters patch and my EC strat, you would swear the sound was coming from a stack of fenders or something, the amp(tubes) adds a depth and clarity to the sound that's incredible. When distorted it's so articulate still, and sounds extremely authentic to the sounds it's supposed to represent. the bass is very low and clear and the highs are crystal and beautiful. The amp is also very loud, and doesn't lose it's definition at volume. i will not need another amp again, ever. It is amazing, plain and simple.

This amp has changed how I hear the songs I have been playing for years. The POD sounds incredibly accurate through this amp. I do agree with the previous poster though, the tubes add a depth and quality to the sound. This is the best musical purchase I have ever made. If I ever did get another amp it would be the atomic 212, but I won't:)

This amp will do whatever your pre amp or modelor wants it to. It could use a master volume control and a handle on the otherside of the cabinet( it only has 1 handle)maybe some optional castors with wheels. Seems to be built sturdy.

The sound quality that I am able to achieve out of this amp surpises me and I am not easy to impress. Some will say that this amp does not color but I will disagree. Anything with a speaker and tubes will color the sound somewhat. If you do not believe me than change the tubes and speakers in your amps and tell me what happens. I will say that this amp adds a warmth and feel that the modelors I have tried can not achieve on their own. The low end on this amp is huge and I found myself adjusting this a bit. I am currently using a POD xt live and have been able to get incredible tones out of this amp. I recomend this amp for anyone with a modelor whom wishes to amplify their sound.

I have been playing guitar between 18-20 years and have owned/played numerous combos ect. As far as amps are concerned I have owned Fenders, Marshalls, music man's, Crate's, numerous modelors, Rivera's and Bedrock amplifiers not counting the plethora I have played and or gigged with. I cant compare it to any of the amps mentioned above because it is unlike any other amp I have used. I can say it does what it was designed for very well. If it was lost or stolen I would buy another after praying for control to not hunt the person down and inflict numerous forms of torture only found in the darkest places of my mind.

I basically play at bedroom volumes (except when she who must be obeyed is out) and really have no problems with the patches at any volume. I'm really looking forward to taking it out and giving it a whirl at a jam session - I have no doubts it will do fine.

Ok Here goes.
After getting the amp (new) and spending some time getting rid of a couple ground loops (Tom was extremely helpful), I was totally blown away. Depending on the patch, I felt like I had a marshall stack behind me or a twin reverb. It is great, the best move I ever made.
My biggest problem is sitting down and tinkering with the patchs, I want to play but so many options. I decided to get a XTL to use with the amp just because it is easier to transport and keep my pro in the rack. I did get a stand for the amp to decouple it from the floor and it does make a difference! Then I plugged my strat in instead of the variax, I forgot how good the strat sounds and the 112 really brings out the best of the strat xt combo! Not that the variax doesn't sound great to, just not as straty!

My hat off to Tom for a great product that fills my needs.

No issues - So far great

Support is great - Tom responds to email very quickly and follows up with a call when needed. Haven't had this level of customer awareness or support from any manufacture of gear that I own.

I have been playing for 40+ years and have owned a lot of gear over the years. Got rid of my Fender HRD to get the Atomic. With out a second thought get another.
