The amp is straight forward and does not have many features. The amp was used for the use of amp modelers. I mainly play metal, alternative, hardcore, and progressive and this amp does extremely good with these type of styles/genres.
I use this amp for practice and hopefully for giging, once I get my band going again.

The guitars I use for with this amp are are left handed jackson with evolution pickups and an epiphone with a d-sonic and an air Norton.
The amp seems to be able to cover all sorts of styles and genres. I use a Line 6 Pod X3 and they go perfectly together. It responds good to high gain patches as well as clean ones. When I first got it I thought I was going to tweak a lot but I didn't.

KOOL I have the 212 50 watt. bought mine after xmas! It's a simple amplifer with an all tube path and power tubes. Didnt need an FX loop since it really has no preamp to bypass. Lots o power! I use this with a GNX4 and YES I have the SuperModels too!! MAN ! now I see what I've been missing. The Supermodels added that texture needed for that dynamo sound of a rushing amplifier that the GNX4 by itself was weak. I had ran through powered speakers befor the Atomic. NOW I have the amplifier that is transparent to let that GNX4 w/Supermodel packs/amps just rail on!!

On its own not much lol. use any modeler amp and it works good. I used a POD xt w model packs. Those were still fizzy. Then I used my GNX4+Supermodels and the sound is amazing! My band rehearsal was awesome. Before this my band said my sound was good and they thought models were good. Then I took the Atomic/GNX4+models from MFX guys. It was easy to sound Marshal, Boogie, 5150, Soldano, Fender. Really a grail of tone!! IF you have a GNX4 you need the model-packs and an Atomic tube 112-50 amp!!!! Thanks to HC reviewers with the GNX4 to help me out !

It's a straight forward tube amp and speaker cab for special designed modellers and preamps even. Channels are applied to the modeller in use. Has plenty of power

I like the sound. I tried with a Jstation and with a GNX4 and I liked it very well. the problem with these processors is they need a transparrent ap for rigging the sound. Instead of powered pa speak, the atomic does it with an all tube path and custom modeling speakers. The GNX4 was kinda plain before I bought the supermodels model packs. Now that I have a way to get what I want out this amp I like it even more. Now my custom sounds get near the headset type sound!

I am really happy with the modelling sounds now. I wasn't as happy with guitar amps before when I used a modeller. Didn't matter which. They all seemed to work good on PA's but not on guitar amps. Now my GNX4 and my atomic with my modeling packs can get the 100's of tones or more that I could only get from Hphones or pa amps. Great to have! Buy them!

This amp really brings a digital modeler to life, sounds are very authentic and cleans just melts you :)))
I'm using Ibanez RG570ex guitar with EMG 81-n/a-81 pups, BOSS GT-PRO and Atomic reactor 212-50 and I'm really pleased with the sound I get even without any tweaking ( i have this amp for 2 days now).
Amp is perfect for my music style, I play kindda old school metal to progressive (metallica, megadeth, dream theater,...)
Is it noisy? not at all, except a cooling fan (like on PC) which is pretty quiet

I previously had one of the Atomic 18 watt versions a few years back and it was a great amp. It just wasn't loud enough for what I was doing. I recently purchased a Mesa Stiletto ACE combo and it was great. I did sell it to a very good friend who really wanted the amp. I checked back with Atomic amps again as I wanted to get back to using my POD and noticed that they now had a 2-12 version with 50 watts of all tube power.
GREAT!

I was very impressed with my previous product and I decided to give Atomic Amps a call. I had heard many great things about Tom King and his customer service and I can honestly tell you, I was NOT disappointed. He called me back, offered his input on his product and was very sincere and there was no pressure at all. This is what impressed me most. You don't often find that in today's market.
The amp itself is powered by a couple of 6L6 tubes and a great poweramp setup. I connected my loaded PodXT and started rumbling. It's amazing the difference between this amp and my previous 18 watt atomic. To say the least, the bottom end of this amp is incredible! I literally thought I was running a 4x12 in the room. Upon further inspection and removing the front cover, you can see a well designed and ported cabinet. This thing had more ommph than the Genz Benz cab that I tried at a friends house. Really....amazing. I ran one of the triple rectifier presets with a large amount of bottom end dialed up and ran my Ernie Ball 7-string JP model through it.
Lets see....how would I describe it? How about: My chest rumbled.....and for the first time in a long time, I could actually get some wonderful definition out of that model instead of sounding like MUD going through anything else. The modeller now sounds like a full fledged tube amp. At a recent gig a friend had a 5150 combo and he had a very hard time keeping up with me as far as volume and quality of sound. It was extemely clear and concise with many of the other models as well. The Bogner and especially the Deizel models on the POD just scream through this. There is none of that low end flub you would get through running the Pod into an amp. It works fantastic. I am truely impressed with it! Clean, clear, WARM and LOUD!

Here is what makes this company better than many others I have dealt with in the past. When the actual president of the company answers the phone, you know they care. Tom was extemely kind to deal with and there was no pressure to buy. Basically, he described exactly what the amp would do and how it would sound. I gave him a couple of comparison setups that I used previously and he was right on with what he told me.
Great gent to speak with and even better to deal with. You can't beat that.

I've been playing for about 30 years now. If I was to ever look back and see what I have owned, sold, traded, I would probably be able to buy another house. I chose this product because of previous experience with it. I wanted a higher watt version and they made it and did it well. This is one of those setups with a modeller that really makes a huge difference in sound quality. It makes it sound much more believable. I couldn't tell the difference between the Dual Recto at the store and comparing it with this setup. It was very difficult. That tells me that the maker has done their homework in building a product that is authentic and warm sounding. It's not often you can get an all tube backline for the price they offer it at.
Great work Atomic!

The atomic reactor 212-50 is atomics newestand largest amp that they make. When i heard this thing was "loud as hell", it was certainly no lie. This amp is incredibly versatile because you can mount procesors such as the line 6 pod directly in this amp. You can also buy an additional footswitch which helps you change multiple channels. I use this amp for gigging with my band, and i think i will be set for awhile now because it has all the power and versatility that i wouldever need.

This amp can do absolutley anything you want it to. i myself use a line 6 POD. The efects are amazing through the Atomic 212-50 and will leave your jaw open and ears ringing. Wether your playing loud or soft this thing sounds great. I was amazed when i brought down the overdirve and put a classic clean sound through it. It was crisp and clear. I have a les paul and an ESP H-1000 both rigged with EMG 81's. This amp is great for any style.

The Atomic Reactor 212-50 is a tube power section / tuned cabinet combo whose primary purpose is to amplify amp modelers.
Manufactured in 2006.
Class AB, 50 watts (closer to 55).
Powered by 2 6L6 power tubes.
Tuned, sealed, ported birch ply cab housing two Eminence custom designed 12" speakers.
Standby and Power switches.
Master volume control.
Stereo (switchable to summed mono) effects send.
Mono effects return.
Cooling fan.
30"W x 26"H x13"D.
85 lbs?
Recessed side carry handles.
Retro checked grill cloth with white piping and Atomic logo. Very cool.
Nice textured vinyl covering.
Hard metal corners.
Docking station which can accept Line6 PODxt, Line6 POD2, Vox ToneLab or Behringer V-amp. A docking template of your choice is included with the amp. Blank template available for floor based modelers which will connect through the effects return.
The docking station provides power, guitar input and line outputs for the docked modeler. No power supply needed for your modeler.
The amp has power in spades. Enough stage volume to overpower loud acoustic drum sets, but because it has a master volume control, it can easily be toned down for home practice or smaller rehearsal settings.
The size of the amp? Enormous. Well, it looks that way, anyway. It is larger than a Fender Super Reverb and slightly smaller than the smallest Marshall 412 straight cab. But my initial impression is that it is huge. And this is a 2x12" that we're talking about here. The reason is that the cab isn't designed to just fit the speakers and that's all. The cab size is optimized for the speakers and porting. And for as important as the tube power is, it'd be all for nought if the cab design wasn't right.
Because I use the Line6 PODxt, it has all the features I need and none that I don't.
Even though the amp is made with modeling units in mind, it plays very well with other preamps. This alone makes me give the amp a 10 in features because I can use it as the power section for anything else if I ever decide that I'm tired of my current amp modeler or just want a change.

I'm part of a small and lucky group of people that got to try the new Atomic 50 watt line before buying. Tom set up demos on both coasts for prospective buyers and I was able to attend one in Washington DC. So even though I ended up buying the 212-50, I can say that 99% of what I have to say about the sound quality of the 212 also applies to the 112-50.
I'll also preface this review of sound quality by saying that I demoed the amp using my Line6 PODxt.
Quite simply, this is the finest option currently for amplifying a PODxt. The combination of the tube power section and specially designed cabinet/speakers quite literally worked magic on my PODxt. I'm a huge Line6 fan and love the way my XT sounds for direct recording. I've also used it successfully direct to the PA, through a keyboard amp, and through a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410 (which I thought was the best option).
The Atomic blows all of these other options away. Amp models which I previously didn't care for or thought were unusable with any other setup were given new life by the Atomic. And yet, the Atomic remained very faithful to the character of the PODxt. Mid gain amps, which Line6 users have long criticized as being the weak link in the PODxt modeled amps sounded fantastic! Shimmer and crunch from Vox and Matchless...so nice. And the high gain amps which even non Line6 users agree are done well? Outstanding! Those familiar with the infamous Line6 and Boss fizz debates won't find anything to debate here.
I've personally heard this amp played with my Ibanez SZ720, a Les Paul Standard, and an SG. No matter what you play through it, it sounds great. Suits any musical style that you throw at it, but the 212 might just suit heavier styles better than the 112-50 due to slightly increased bass response, which will, incidentally, flap your trousers...literally.
At rest, both amps are dead quiet. No hum, no hiss, nothing. The very, very whisper quiet PC-style cooling fan is louder than any amp noise the Atomic creates.
Loud? It can be very, very, VERY loud if you want it to be. And that goes for both models, the 112 and 212. A studio engineer that was present at our demo said that the 112 was the loudest and best sounding 112 he'd ever heard. He also said that the 212 was about 1/3 louder than that! And yet, even at bedroom levels, both provided very nice response. But face it, louder is more fun, right? I run the 212 master volume full out and let the PODxt output knob control the volume. At 3.5 - 4 on the PODxt, it is as loud as anyone would need it to be. Since the master volume knob on the back of the Atomic is unlabeled, you could easily put your own numbers on and make it "go to eleven".
I give it a 10 in this category also. And that is an honest number.
Reliability
:
No Opinion
I can't say how reliable the amp is because it is brand new, but it should be reasonably so. The construction is very solid and there are few components to go wrong. The only thing I might be concerned about is the docking station. It's been improved in this new model but I still worry slightly that continuously docking and undocking might pose a damage risk. But that point is probably moot as I will no doubt leave my PODxt docked at all times.
Gig without a backup? Never. It's a tube amp and you should always carry a spare pair of 6L6's with you. If the amp ever crapped out, I'd just run direct to the PA with my PODxt. If the PODxt ever crapped out, I have another preamp that I could use and some other pedals.
I won't give a rating for this category because I wouldn't be relying on my own experiences. But that's no knock on the product. Just being honest.

When you deal with Atomic Amps, you deal with Tom King, President of Atomic Amps. Customer support is an email or phone call away. In most cases, Tom has answered my emails or phone calls within 30 minutes. I estimate that Tom has spent at least an hour of his time on the phone talking to me about his amps, and that's not including the demo that he set up and drove 5 hours to (that's a whole other story, but what other amp company President is willing to do that? Fender? Marshall? I think not.)
When I was ready to purchase, I sent him an email which was followed up by his phone call to me less than 20 minutes later. We spoke for some length about my playing style, musical tastes, gigging and rehearsal requirements and future Atomic offerings before we determined that the 212-50 was the amp for me.
Not only did he personally oversee the shipping of my amp, but he PLAYED IT before sending it out!!! He does this to ensure that any problems that you may have when the amp arrives upon your doorstep are the result of shipping.
Now, I rate Customer Support a 10 because of the personal attention I've received. The amp is too new for me to have had any problems, but Tom will fix them. He's a man of his word and I've heard personal stories direct from other Atomic users where he's fixed problems that aren't even under warranty. Tom is a stand-up guy that'll do anything to make sure you're happy with your amp.

I've been playing guitar for over 20 years I own a Line6 PODxt, a 2006 Ibanez SZ720, a 1986 Ibanez RG440, a 1987 Yamaha FG-440 and a 2005 Ibanez GSR200 bass.
Yes, if the 212-50 was lost, I'd get another.
There's everything to love and almost nothing to hate. The only thing might be the size and weight but if that's your problem then just get the 112-50 and you'll be completely satisfied. I just had "cab envy" so I went with the 212.
I compared this amp mainly to the Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410 which I thought was the closest competitor when used with the PODxt. The Hot Rod is still a very good amp and sounds wonderful, but it isn't even close to the Atomic.
Bottom line, the Atomic is the best amp for use with the PODxt.
