Bought new in 2008, closed back 2 12" Hellatone (Pre-aged V30s) Speakers 16 Ohm.
More than enough sound output for any small to mid sized venue. Beautiful Burgundy Tolex with Oxblood Grill cloth. 2 jacks are nice in case I ever want to daisy chain another. Oh yea, closed back so the sound comes out tight and right in your face!

I wish that it came with casters since it is built like a tank. For that reason I give it a 9 instead of 10.

Sound Quality : 10
I am basically using this with a Randall RT 2/50 Power amp and a ADA Mp-1 and a Pod pro (with a few other options in my rack as well). I play everything from Blues to Metal, and this setup nails it. The Hellatones are awesome and I highly recommend this option. Sounds way better than any 2x12 I have ever heard, including some way more expensive big name amp manufacturers speakers.

Reliability : 10
I haven't really it around too much, but what's to go wrong. The cab seems extremely well made and the Hellatones started as Celestions, what more can I say!

Customer Support : 10
Dave at avatar answers his own phone and emails back in 24 hours. Haven't had a problem, but I believe they would e right on it to get resolved. Unlike the big guys, one pissed off customer means a big difference in future business. if you want to compare go to Line 6 or Marshall and try to get the big boss on the phone.

Overall Rating : 10
I would definitely recommend this setup to anyone. I compared it to Marshall 1936 cab, and a few others. None had so many choices for this price.
Also want to mention this thing looks good enough to put in any environment and fit right in. I had in my living room for weeks and it fit right in with the fine leather furniture. A real solid peice of gear that I will have for years.

MARCH 2007

2 12" Hellatone Speakers

Sound Quality : 10
The sound from this cabinet is awesome, I use it for blues, r&b, rock. Gets the variety of tones from all. Has great bottom, middle, and top tones. One of the best cabinets I have used in 46 years of live playing.

Reliability : No Opinion
Just recieved it can not say?

Customer Support : 10
Dave was one of the best to work with I have ever come across, answered my emails and phone calls personally. Was very attentive to what I was looking for and steered me in the right direction. Great company to work with.

Overall Rating : 10
I think this cabinet for the price out performs any factory or custom built cabinet on the Market.

black 2x12 cabinet with wheat grill, metal corners. closed back, with two Celestion vintage 30's.

Sound Quality : 10
With my Peavey Valveking head, this is as close as I've come so far to the tone in my head. It's amazing. I am not even sure if I even need effects anymore, because the tones I get out of this cab and the VK are so inspiring and so fun to play. Cleans are amazing, overdrive is astonishing.

Reliability : 10
The cab is a tank. I am so glad I got the 2x12, because I imagine the 4x12 is probably hernia inducing.

Customer Support : 10
Dave rocks. He's on the ball, and whoever they have answering the phone was courteous, and repeated the whole order back to me to verify. Nice guys.

Overall Rating : 10
If it were lost, I first try and figure out how the hell I misplaced something this large. If it were stolen, I'd try and figure out how the thief fit a 2x12 in their jacket or down their pants.

Kidding aside, I'd definitely replace it, without hesitation.

Made a few minutes after my phone call a month ago, and a few days before delivery! I have a Celestion V30 on top, G12H30 on the bottom. Other features are covered well by other reviewers.

Sound Quality : 9
Playing a stock American Std. Strat into a Zvex Nano Head into this cab. The Nano is only 0.5 watt (that's right, half a watt), so I needed relatively low-watt speakers.

With this setup, I get a great, cranked-up tube amp sound at relatively low volume. 'Shouting' volume when cranked up, but just 'speaking' volume or less when clean. The clean sound is very nice.

I don't get a lot of bass, but, again, the amp is only 1/2 watt.

Reliability : 9
I'm only going to play this at home, and I'm sure it will outlive me. It's very well made. The black carpet has no noticeable flaws. The grill seems solid. The recessed handles also seem to be very solid.

Customer Support : 10
I enjoyed talking with them a couple of times on the phone. They are very friendly, not pushy, happy to answer questions, and very flexible with how they could configure the cab for you. The actual transaction was done quickly over the phone, and the cab came in a couple of days. The box was well-packed. You just can't ask for more!

Overall Rating : 10
Yeah, I most certainly recommend them. I really didn't know much about cabs a few months ago. I shopped around, and kept thinking to myself that a good brand name was pretty expensive, and a good used deal was hard to find. With these guys you get a great price for just what you want. I will go with them again when I buck up for a 4 x 12 cab someday.

A 2002 model -- the basics: carpet w/metal grill -- the 3/4" wood is madd thick and not too heavy. Great cabinet that could fit any style if you play w/ the speaker config, and hey if you hate the carpet (much more durable) just get the tolex version! The only complaint i have is the reallt thin gauge wire he used, but no big deal, I switched it out for a much larger gague later for more reliability.

I didn't like the vertical much, but on it's side it isexactly the same width as my marshall, so no complaints here -- just moved the logo.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm currently using either an epiphone lp standard, but it is soon to be ditched for a Heritage H-150(much better that rip-off gibsons) or a G&L legacy (much better that rip-off fenders). From the guiar i go through an Ibanez tube screamer and a snarling dogs super bawl whine-o-wah (another fine piece of machinery) and into the amp. It's a 1983 JCM 800, but don't think i'm an ignorant metal head, it sounds awesome for clean and light drive (classic zeppelin or stones!), i know, big suprise. Finally the cab is equipped with a celestion Vintage 30, and a G12H-30.

Dave suggested the speaker configuration, and he's no liar, they complement eachother so beautifully, it makes me forget i'm onstage or where ever, simply stunning! The best cab ive ever heard.

Reliability : 10
There is no way this thing will ever break. the grill is gonna do well because it's metal, and the carpet will last forever. As i said i changed the speaker wire, would probably have out-lasted me, but you know -- better safe that screwed. I once dropped it out of my jeep and it didn't do more than scuff the corners.

Customer Support : 10
Just call Dave, Mr customer service himself. If you are doubtful of speakers or whatever, he will talk to you as long as it takes and make shure you are happy. He has some sort of guarantee or something too.

Overall Rating : 10
I play classis rock in a local band and have been playing for about 3 years. Our motto is "if it's not 30 years old or more, we won't play it". Mostly stones, skynerd, zeppelin, ya' know, the good stuff. As I like to play with harmonics and feedback ect. I'm getting a 4x12 from dave pretty soon, but for a small great sounding cab, you simply can't go wrong. Just look at the reviews, can that many people give good reviews and be wrong, besides, these people are those who research their gear and know a thing or two. Not b182 tom deschlong fans. take your pick : a particle board crap, or an indestructable great sounding plywood tone machine.

PS -- great deal - thanks Dave

212 Speaker Cabinet, 2 Celestion Vintage 30's, output to 8 Ohms mono, closed back, extra plug to daisy chain multiple cabinets together, black carpet covering, hard plastic corners, metal front grill. Basic speaker cabinet, but more features (multiple outputs, choice of speakers) than you can get with Marshall, Mesa, Orange, etc... it's custom made to your liking. It weighs about 40 lbs. and has 2 side handles. My car is small, so a 412 cabinet would be too large, and plus, way too loud for my needs at the moment. The only addition that I think Dave could offer is more speaker choices, although he already has about 10 different choices (a mix of Eminence and Celestion). Perhaps Fane, Jensen? What am I complaining for- no one else even offers this type of flexibility.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with a Peavey Butcher amp with a G&L F-100, and Fender American Std Strat w/Seymour Duncan Vintage pickups. Have a few effects, Russian Big Muff, Cry Baby Wah, Superfuzz, Fulltone '70, and Boss MT-2. This is a great cabinet. I have no problems hearing myself when playing with others. When using heavy distortion, it seems to resonate when I hit a B chord. The full spectrum of no distortion, to heavy distortion matches well with the speakers I chose. I like basic rock guitar sounds and this is a fantastic addition to my setup. The bass does not fart out. I had that problem with my solid state Fender Princton Chorus. I had to crank the Fender, and it just couldn't cut it live- I was getting drowned out. The highs in this cabinet are very smooth and creamy, but I guess that has to do with my amp as well. Good match to the Butcher that uses 6L6 tubes. I have not tried it with an EL34 or solid state amp yet. I wanted to put together a basic guitar sound with no frills.

Reliability : No Opinion
Seems to hold up so far. Heavy thick plywood- (though not as thick as my Butcher's- but then again noone else's is either :) Carpeting just as good- if not better than tolex. I transport it from my house to Studio 1 with no issues and no rattles.

Customer Support : 10
Dave is a great guy- he answers your questions quickly, and builds your custom cabinet quickly and he cares about his customers. The warrenty is for 1 year and there is a 14 day return policy. I trust his judgement, and would do business with him in the future.

Overall Rating : 10
Player for 7 years. Played it a bit conservative gear wise throughout the years, I get used to the positives and negatives of each element in my setup. This was a necessary purchase to increase my volume and improve my tone. It's unbelieveable how much better my sound is with the Butcher and the G212, and together I paid the same amount as my Fender Princeton Chorus new. This cabinet was no contest. The closest thing cost wise was a Carvin Legacy 2-12 with Vintage 30's, and that was $355 shipped and didn't have the extra plug to daisy chain. This was $298 shipped, custom made to the speakers I wanted, output impedance and mono configuration I asked for, with 2 outputs should I need the extra volume. Customer service is A+. I believe I have the best sounding cabinet money can buy. I almost made a mistake buying the Marshall or Carvin. I also made the mistake of considering eBay for a used Mesa or Marshall or Carvin or Orange, etc... but that was usually still more expensive (shipped) and used by questionable people. Thanks to stumbling into a www.guitargeek.com message board I saw someone recommend Avatar Speaker Cabinets. Great advice. All interested parties should visit www.avatarspeakers.com.

The cabinet is a custom 2 x 12" made by Avatar model G212. It is well made and looks very strong. It features a stereo configuration, driving and Eminence Legend V12 and Celestion Classic Lead 80 both at 8 ohms. Dave (the owner) helped me in brainstorming for speaker configurations and this was a good match based on my equipment (See sounds below)

Sound Quality : 10
I use an Ibanez 7420 and a Gibson Studio Gothic > Mesa Recording Preamp > Rocktron Velocity 150 (around 60 Watts per side at 8 ohms)and various stomp boxes > Avatar G212 cab. Because of portability I choose the 2 x 12" configuration. I researched the market for a good 2x12" and there are not a lot of options available for a good price. MESA 2x12" is a good choice but... the price??? Same thing with Marshalls, Randalls etc. One day, I was surfing the net and I came across an auction for an Avatar Cab on Ebay (direct from the factory). I researched the company and boy I'm glad I did. I came across Avatar. This company is awesome. I got my cab with custom configuration (stereo). I explained my playing style to Dave (Owner) and we arrived at the conclusion that an V12' will be good for the bottom end and a Classic lead 80 on top to compensate for mids and highs. The mixture is insane. This cabs handles everything well. I am very happy with the sound

Haven't used it. But knowing how this people operates I forsee no problems...

THE BEST OF THE BEST. It is not everyday that you get to design your dream guitar cabinet. Dave cares about the customers and he will make sure you are a happy customer. Believe me, I am a Quality Process Manager and in my terms: Avatar exceeded Customer Expectations to the fullest. Try it after you go Avatar, there is no turning back!

I can't stress this point enough. Check Avatar out. Why pay so much for a cabinet when you can design yours and have the sound you want. I've played for almost 17 years and I've had my deals with equipment in the past. I love the simplicity of Avatar: Great Manufacturability, Outstanding Quality and Amazing Customer Support.

I'm not going to give a numbers rating. It is a straightforward 2 X 12 speaker cab with 1/4" jacks which allow for "daisy chaining". Both of mine came from Avatar with 2 Eminence Legend V12s.

Sound Quality : 8
I wanted these cabs to try to tame the highs on some Fender solid state guitar amps that had a decent clean channel but were definitely overkilling on the high frequencies. I called Dave at AVATAR and explained what I was looking for. He recommended that I go with the Eminence Legend V12s - which were the cheapest option available. I am glad I did. They did the trick.

A Crate VC 50 watt all tube head sounds absolutely beautiful run through one of my stock slant G212s, but other tube amps only sounded O.K. with these speakers. It was time to experiment with using different speakers.

I tried Celestion Blue Alnicos, Celestion G12-75s, Celestion Vintage 30s, Celestion Greenbacks and others. I found that my G212 slant cabinets sounded fantastic when I replaced one Eminence Legend V12 with a Celestion Greenback. The legendary Blue Alnicos did not sound good with the Eminence Legends. The G12-75s and Vintage 30s sounded pretty good, but the best match hands down was the Legend V12 with the Greenback.

The stock set up gets and 8. It is (was - they no longer make these) an exceptional value for a new speakers cab loaded with 2 X 12s. With the Greenbacks modification, it gets a 10.

Reliability : 9
From opening them up several times to do the speakers swaps, these appear pretty well built. If properly made, it would be tough for a manufacturer to screw up a simple speaker cabinet. I have had these a year now and they are holding up just fine. I am not expecting any problems.

Customer Support : 10
This is where Avatar really excels. All the other reviews here say the same thing. You call up. Dave answers. He takes the time to familiarize himself with what you are looking for and steers you in that direction - even if there are more expensive routes to go. These two cabs were my first experiences with Dave and AVATAR. I've since bought about $1500 worth of equipment from AVATAR, and I intend to buy more. You can certainly buy more expensive cabinets, but you can't beat these for the money. Also, I am a firm believer in going all out to support a good, customer friendly vendor.

Overall Rating : 10
I've enjoyed playing since I was in junior high school - and that's been about 25 years. I have owned, and still do own, over 20 guitars and about 10 amps. I definitely did look at other speaker cabinets from bargain brands like Crate, to Marshall, to Line 6, to Carvin and included lots of high end stuff. The AVATARS do an excellent job at a very reasonable price. You could spend more if you wanted to, but why?

This 2x12" cabinet is VERY well made. It is a closed back cabinet made of 3/4" plywood, MUCH lighter than my friend's pressboard econo-cabinet. The covering is black carpet with (what I believe to be painted black, possibly anodized) RECESSED steel handles to make this thing extremely easy to carry (it also lays in any position because of the recessed handles). There is a steel diamond pattern wire mesh gaurd to protect the speaker cones from damage, and a subtle Avatar lable mounted on the bottom left of the gaurd. The corners have bumpgaurds to resist damage from drops. The rear has a steel mounting plate for two, 1/4" jacks in parallel. Many speaker options and wiring configurations were available, I chose Vintage 30s with 16 Ohm series for my amp (more below). I only have a car at the moment, and this cabinet was a great choice for my limited space. I would recommend it to anyone with similar space sitsuations, if I had a truck or van I would have tried their 4x12 slant cabinet.

Sound Quality : 10
This thing sounds GREAT with my combination. I chose two Celestion Vintage 30, 12" speakers per Dave's advice on my style of playing, guitar, amplifier and many people's advice and opinions for the sound/value factor. I am very impressed. I have a Fender Stratocaster with standard pickups (lots of hum, will remedy with better ones soon) and a Marshall 2210 100W all tube head with JJ EL34s and EEC83S tubes (at the moment, only TWO power tubes are in (50W)). This thing roars for it's size. The speakers seem to love my combination, and I hurt my ears before the speakers even seem to want to distort. The Vintage 30s like my amps overdrive and are very responsive and very warm sounding, but also crisp when put through a clean channel. I play older rock or heavy metal with no effects pedals, and anything I throw at this combination seems to come out great.

Reliability : 10
I don't have much use on it, but by looking at the construction and attention to detail alone, there is no need for me to even think about reliability problems. This thing is solid!

Customer Support : 10
Customer support was great. Dave works with you on a personal level for your custom combinations and music styles. I have emailed him twice during the waiting stages and got immediate responses. He emailed the tracking number out as soon as it shipped UPS Ground, and I got it very quickly. Very nice and knowledgable, no problems whatsoever.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing on and off for about a year, and got more serious a few months before purchasing the head and cabinet. If this was stolen, I would definitally buy another one or upgrade to another version of the same style, it is rock solid and an exceptional value. I can't say enough about how much I like it, and compared to name brand lables it lacks in no areas, and is MUCH cheaper! Very durable, well built, sounds awesome and a great value for the money spent.
