My cab is the Vintage style 212 in black with wheat grill and a closed back. Straight up vintage styled cab similar to a Marshall Bluesbreaker combo cab. I have a Marshall 1936 212 cab to compare this too, as well as a 1970 Kustom 212 with vintage Jensen C12N's (closed back, front ported), a Fender 212 extension cab (closed back, front ported), etc...
Construction seems to be on par with top shelf construction and materials. I say this even though I bought a "scratch and dent" cab but I can not find a scratch or dent. The only thing that even came close to a flaw was iside the cab where it does not matter. Anyways...

I loaded this cab with an original pair of Electro-Voice "Pro-Series" EVM12L's which are 300watt each, wired in series for 16 ohm total. I am using this cab "currently" with an original Marshall Plexi 50 watt head from early 1969. This amp head is a certified bone crusher. The EVM speakers cannot be driven to distort in any way since there is probably not a production amp in existence that can push these speakers to distort. I haven't come across it yet.
This cab sounds as good as anything I have (and I have a roomfull of vintage and new gear). I have not observed rattles in the cab but my guitar room will definitely rattle and make stuff fall off the fireplace mantle and walls with this combo. I usually use a Marshall PowerBrake to tame the beast.
Like I said, the EVM's can produce massive bass without distortion, as well as ear piercing highs that can break glass. I think the combination is excellent. The extended response of these powerful speakers combined with the larger cavity of the oversized cab seems to work exceptionally well...for me.

Been using it with a very powerful Marshall head for 5 months now. No problems yet...
It stays in my personal guitar and amp room.

I called this guy that owns the company and he took my order. Personal contact is a rarity anymore...
We talked about the cab and I told him what I was gonna do with the cab. He gave some input. Cool.

I would buy this again...no doubt. I like the look and sound of the cab. It works for my needs. Looks good in my guitar room. It sounds better than the Marshall 1936 I have sitting right next to it connected to a "Modded" Marshall TSL.

Full Name of this product is the G212 Vintage Custom Cabinet. It's an oversized 2X12 cabinet, 8 ohm mono, although you have your choice of different configurations. Thus the 8 rating. Although they don't offer a cover for this cab which is kind of a necessity if your a gigging musician.

in a word, Cheap! If you like your cabinets to vibrate and rattle on the low end, then this is the cabinet for you. Mine was equipped with 2 Celestion G12k100's which are very nice speakers, especially on the low end. But this cabinet defeated the purpose of using those speakers. Trying to mute on the Low E with any kind of volume produced a rattle which is easily picked up by a mic'd cabinet. Very frustrating. And I'm not a metal guy, more of a classic rock, blues artist. Couldn't imagine even trying to metal up with this thing.

No Opinion
After owning for 2 months I was lucky enough to unload this on Ebay so I won't offer an opinion here.

Been playing music for 27 years. And bought a lot of music gear in my day. Have to say this is probably the worst experience buying a piece of equipment that I've ever had. Only reason rating is a 2 and not 1 is they offer their product at a good price. But as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

I thought I would add the correct title for this cab. An oversized vintage cabinet that is designed on the lines of the Bogner oversized cab. Void less birch construction with switchcraft jacks and premium speaker connections. One input and a second output to daisychain other cabs. You have your choice of speakers and ohms. I chose two Celestion Classic Lead 80's wired for 4 ohms. Black tolex and wheat grill are the only colors available on this cab.

In a word, Excellent! I have been doing a serious search for the last two months or so for a 212 that would sound good with jazz and jazz fusion and not break the bank. I ordered the open back with movable panels for a more open tone. I have amps and cabs with Vintage 30's in them and was never quite happy with the sound. The Classic Lead 80's hold bass defination very well and they sound really good in the mids and highs. I use a variety of pickup styles and the CL80's sound great with all of them. Main amps are a Mesa Lonestar Classic and a Bogner Shiva. Both are heads. I should note that I do not crank my amps so my opinion is based on both of these heads running at no more than 35-50% Couldn't be happier with the sound.

Construction on the cabinet is first rate. Very tight, tolex applied nicely and the grill and piping look great. Weighs in at about 60 lbs. The one thing that I was amazed at was the size. This cab is nearly as large as some 412's. I read the spec's on Avatar's site but it wasn't until I unloaded it that I realized how big it was. Think 412 less 5 inches in height and the weight of the additional speakers.

I've ordered from Avatar before have always been very satisfied with their service. Very informative and friendly. They ship DHL and I actually received the cab two days before I thought I would. Their packaging is first rate, very professional. You can't ask for anything more.
