It's a speaker, it has a magnet and a cone and some other stuff. They are broken in which ROCKS! Breaking in speakers is a pain, so Dave does it for us. On top of all that, he charges less than most places!

I put 2 Hellatone 60L's in my Peavey Valveking 212 combo. This was a naturally dark amp, and I was a little hesitant to put them in due to the emphasis on the bottom end. As it was, I usually had my bass at 9 o'clock just to get some decent sounds. Now the Bass is smooth and I can crank it with out killing my tone. Also, the highs and mids cut through sooo much better than before. The difference over the stock speakers is amazing. They sound great. I play with an American Strat, an Ibanez Semi-Hollowbody and A Jackson V. These speakers cover everything I play from light rock like KOL to heavy metal like Pantera. The clean sound is so smooth and thick, and distortion through these are Heaven! I mainly play with the strat and I don't get any over bearing single coil highs. It is just perfect. I can nail old Pumpkins with this amp, these speakers and my vintage Big Muff.

They seem more sturdy than the stock speakers. Maybe I am not playing loud enough, but I have never blown a speaker before. Can't mark them down.

I have been playing for 12 years now, but I still pretty much suck. HAHAHA. I have played a lot of low to high dollar amps with a lot of different speaker combinations. These speakers are the best I've heard. I could hear the cones move in the stock speakers in my VK, but this just sound great. I would buy these again.
These are definitely not as "ice picky" as standard Vintage 30's. They are everything they are advertised to be.

...what they said. Special version of the Celestion Vintage 30 that is broken in and aged. I have put these in 3 different Peavey Classic 30 amps and 3 matching Peavey 112E extension cabs. They sound GREAT (very smooth and warm) and they are much more efficient than the original speakers so the amp plays louder.
I just bought another pair to put into one of my Marshall JCM800 2 x 12 50 watt combos. The ONLY problem these speakers have is their magnet weight but this is only hyper-obvious when using them as a pair in the same cabinet! Minus 1 point for weight.

I primarily play Rock and Pop in small-to-midsized clubs and I standardized on a Peavey Classic 30 "stack" because of their small size, relatively light weight and their tone (when set-up properly). There are 5 changes I have made to my "stacks" that have transformed these amps from good to great:
1. Matched set of JJ tubes from Bob at Eurotubes (using EL83S tubes instead of 12AX7 types to help prevent microphonics).
2. Factory tube cage with dense foam "shock absorber" for output tubes (to prevent tube damage, rattle and vibrational stress).
3. Small fan to promote circulation and keep everything cool.
4. Weber 4" Beam Blockers on all combo speakers.
5. All factory speakers changed to Avatar Hellatone 60L units.
If you primarily play a Les Paul with Humbuckers you probably don't need the Beam Blockers but I play most of my gigs using a Fender Stratocaster as my primary guitar and the Beam Blockers help smooth out those single coils.
In this configuration, the Hellatone 60L speakers are very smooth, efficient and dynamic. I love the way they sound in this amp!

I have only been using the Hellatone 60L for just under a year but so far I have no complaints and no failures. Even if I did, I know Dave would take care of me!

I have done business with Dave at Avatar Speakers for a long time... going on 9 or 10 years now. I own and use 2 of his 210 Bass cabs, one of his 115 bass cabs and a 2-12 Stereo guitar cab and have had zero problems with any of them.
Anytime I had a concern Dave took care of it. It doesn't get any better than this! Dave takes care of you with no excuses!

I have been playing guitar and bass for over 40 years (since I was 10 years old) and I currently own over 30 amplifiers & cabinets. Most of the "Big Guns" (like my Marshall JCm800 full stack) are long gone... I am getting too "experienced" to haul all that weight around (my back can't take it anymore)! Most of my gear is smaller and lightweight these days so I can mix & match depending on the circumstances and still be able to load out myself and travel to the gig in a Honda Accord instead of a delivery truck!
Avatar Speakers is my first stop for speakers and cabinets. All of my Avatar cabinets have Eminence speakers in them but Dave standardized on Celestions for his "Hellatone" line and the 60L is my personal favorite for my Peavey Classic 30 amps. I can't wait to hear them in my Marshall JCM800!

The specs on this speaker are the same as a Celestion Vintage 30, except it has a Hellatone logo instead of a Celestion logo. Mine is a 16 ohm model, but there are 8 ohm versions as well. Avatar buys Vintage 30's and breaks them in with their own special process. Whatever they do... it makes for one hell of a speaker. My only complaint is that the logo sticker was slightly off center and a little crooked.

OMG... can we say best sounding guitar speaker ever! This speaker makes for a creamy smooth clean channel, and a warm crunchy gainy dirty channel. Nice! I swapped out the stock speaker in my Peavey Classic 30 for a 16 ohm Hellatone 60 and man... what a difference! The amp is louder, warmer, fuller, and just plain better. The speaker combined with a new set of tubes completely transformed my Classic 30 from good to great! This speaker shines for Rock, but I think it would fit just about any genre.

I've only been playing guitar for the past few years, but I've been playing bass since the early 90's. I've played in plenty of bands and I had an idea of what kinda guitar sound I like. This speaker paired with the Peavey Classic 30 is the perfect sound for me. I tried a couple of other speakers (including a Weber VST Ceramic, Celestion G12K85, and Eminence Legend) in the amp and I thought the Avatar smoked them all. A great speaker at a great price.

The Hellatone 60L is advertised as a Celestion Vintage 30 with a slightly modified voice coil. Avatar breaks the speaker in and re-brands it a Hellatone 60L.
Apparently this is a "limited" speaker. The wording I've heard implies that this is the same speaker large amp companies (Mesa, etc.) are using in their cabinets. In other words, when you see a cab made by a large manufacturer loaded with Celestion Vintage 30s, it is likely loaded with this version of the Vintage 30 (but not yet broken in).

I love this speaker! I have it in my Avatar G212 Premier Vintage 212 Cabinet along with a Celestion G12T-75. The Hellatone 60L has a very characteristic tone to it. As advertised, it sounds great out of the box. In retrospect, I wish I had ordered 2 Hellatone 60Ls in my cab instead of the combo with the G12T-75.
I also own a Mesa Recto 1x12 cabinet with a Celestion Vintage 30. I have mic'd all speakers (Hellatone 60L, Vintage 30, G12T-75) to compare the tone. I like the tone of the Hellatone 60L best by far! It doesn't have the ice pick shrill mid-highs that the Vintage 30 has. The G12T-75 has a slightly more pronounced attack than the others, but when a power chord is ringing it sounds like nasal fuzz in comparison. Yuck. The Hellatone 60L has a grinding growl tone that just sounds superb.
Regarding the Hellatone 60L I was quite literally blown away with the tone when comparing the recordings off the 3 speakers. This is truly an awesome speaker!

Perfect 10. Dave is the best guy I have ever encountered in this industry. Nice, personable, and knowledgable. I had a great chat with him over the phone when placing an order. He talked about the various speaker options and told a few stories from his youth. He responds to emails quickly. I've never seen anything like this from any other vendor!

If you're like I was, you are wavering on the various speaker options out there. I was interested in the Celestion Vintage 30 because it is what I knew best. I was hesitant at first with the Hellatones because a pre-broken in speaker seems like such a strange concept. In addition to this, the 60L claims to be something different from the Hellatone 60 (Celestion Vintage 30). It absolutely is a different speaker, and I like it more than the Vintage 30.
I would load a cab 100% with Hellatone 60L's without hesitation. I'm even considering swapping out my G12T-75 with a Hellatone 60L to turn my 212 cab into a 100% Hellatone 60L cab. This speaker is truly a gem, and I highly recommend it.
