I ordered this half stack on sale through Musician's Friend mainly because it was affordable, and I figured if the head sucked I could resell it and buy a nice tube head later on down the road. I got quite a surprise.
Let me start by saying that I am a tube purist from WAY back. I got this head to get by with for a few months while I saved up for a nice tube head. I plugged this thing in and just about crapped my pants. For starters, the clean channel is CLEAN... Fender, watch your ass. Your days are numbered. The dirty channel has two foot-switchable settings. I've read on here that the first one was worthless for anything but blues. Whoever wrote that-- either your guitar sucks ass or you didn't take the time to tweak the amp. I got PERFECT tube-like tone from the regular gain with a little bit of knob play... think the sound Mike Ness from Social Distortion... sick. The high gain part of the dirt channel is RIDICULOUS... slices through the mix with no problem. This is the most ridiculously tube-sounding solid state head I have ever played, and believe me, I HATE SOLID STATE. Other complaints here were that this wasn't a "true three-channel amp". I beg to differ... once again, with a little tweaking of gain settings and outputs, I can go from regular tubey gain for rhythm work to a still-tubey but slightly more saturated lead sound without an enormous volume difference. So you all should quit whining and explore the possibilities of your equipment. This head rocks, hands down.
This thing is disgustingly loud... no annoying plastic solid state breakup at high volumes... get some earplugs, you're gonna need 'em.
This amp has an effects loop with independent level controls for send and return, but this is useless to me... I believe in the guitar/cable/amp formula.
Just for shits and giggles I scooped the hell out of the mids and immediately dialed in that peel-the-paint-off-the-walls shred sound on BOTH channels. I'm not a metalhead anymore, but if I wanted to be, this amp could do that, too.
Screw that tube head. I'm keeping this one.

This amp will make any sound you want, with very little trouble. I don't know if the clean channel breaks up at high volumes... I couldn't get it past 5 without thinking my ears were gonna bleed. The distortion, as I said above, is as ridiculous as you want it to be or know how to make it.
I've plugged some VERY different guitars into this. I have a black made by Fender Les Paul (yes, you read that right!) with Duncan Design humbuckers in it. Classic, smokin' hot LP tone plugged straight in. I also have a goldtop Telecaster Custom Limited, with DiMarzio humbuckers... also disgustingly nice. I also plugged my hand-built custom Strat into it, loaded with Lace Sensors, and this was surprising... disgusting clarity with all three guitars. The part that blew me away was that this amp DOES NOT COLOR YOUR SOUND... I could hear the distinctly different voices of ALL THREE GUITARS... amazing. I did a side-by-side with my rhythm guitarist's Mesa DC5 head and Marshall cab, and the look on his face was priceless... I dialed in his tone within a matter of seconds. He's pretty pissed, because his tubes need to be changed after only a year, and I'll never have THAT problem...
I play mostly melodic punk with a bit of a metal edge, and this amp does it all day long...
It is no noisier than any other amp... and it feeds back at exactly the same rate as my buddy's Mesa... just sounds nicer and tighter.

I've only had this for a month, but I've cranked the piss out of it several times, and other than hearing damage, everything is OK. Don't think I'll ever NEED customer service. Wouldn't hesitate for a second to gig without a backup... and hell, at $600 for the half stack, I'll problably order the same head as a backup!

Never needed any of this, but the warranty is tits and these folks seem to stand behind their products. I think it's two years on electronic components and lifetime on cabs and head cases.

I've been playing for 12 years now and have owned quite a few other amps, most of them tube. I always swore I'd never own a solid state head... those words tasted like SHIT when I had to eat them!!!
If it were stolen or lost, I would buy the same stack... and probably be able to afford to!
I love everything about this amp. I hate the fact that I only bought one 4x12 cab!
I have played through many Marshalls, Mesas, Randalls, Carvins... and this amp, for the money or not, blows them out of the water. I can't believe how tubey this thing can sound....
I'd love to see a hybrid from these folks... a nice rack of tubes in the preamp, maybe? I think that's the only way it could possibly sound better!!!
Call MF right now before they come to their senses and raise the price on this thing!!!
