This is an 2008 model well it was actually a loaner amp that I bought from Bad Cat with my color options so I didnt pay full price but I definetely paid more than they go for on ebay. with a brand new cabinet with my color options. I use this amp for a variety of music styles. Rock Metal Blues County Alternative you name it we play it 3 piece band. It has way more than enough power for any venue. Even on the attenuated 15 watt setting it is way loud. It has everything you could possibly want. Outstanding reverb and tremelo! even though I dont use it but it is there if need be. I run a keeley tube screamer and a emma reezafratzits for intensifying gain for the needs of the songs at hand. Takes pedals very well all of them. No effects loop but oh well how us musicians can take care of not having one we all manage. And of course it does bother me not being able to use the overdrive channel with my delay or chorus without the loop but it sounds so well with pedals that I dont miss the effects loop.

I run a custom shop cunetto strat mainly, a 1968 tele and a custom shop 1960 les paul through it with amazing results. This amp likes them all and performs well with all of them. This amp can cover it all any style of music again I do add dirt pedals for the high gain sounds needed and it performs like a champ in any situation. Super quiet amplifier. This is the best amplifier I have ever owned I know eveyone says they have owned every amp out there but of course we have not but quite a few anyway. Very versaltile amp this amp can sound like any of the bad cat amps except for the hot cats those can get extremely high gain sounds and that is why I just ordered me a custom shop model. I sold all of my other amplifiers not needed. Carr, Victoria, Marshall, Mesa Boogie, Vox, Fender yada yada yada Think of an AC 30 with tons of more options and a single 12 it is a very heavy amp close to 80 pounds You will have to get an ata case with wheels for it to much money spent not to have one for protection of amp and back. Clean channel is super clean sounds can range from country picking gliss to outrageous blues to straight out raunch and dont worry about headroom there is plenty to go around for any venue. I use it on the half power setting. The overdrive channel is amazing from classic rock to moderate high gain. Infinite sustain this amp really rocks!! You can run through the clean channel with a high gain pedal to achieve those heavy saturated tones. This is definetely a professional amp. I have always said you get what you pay for and this amp is no exception! The best guitar tone money can buy whether you like old school tone or modern grind you will not be dissappointed! Everyone appreciates exceptional tone I get nothing but complements from band mates and musicians alike on the tone achieved through this monster!

Lifetime warranty I have talked to Tim from bad cat when ordering amplifier and he sent me through email the differnet optional colors I had to pick from and I also bought the footswitch from him over the phone. Great support I had a tone cat that was giving me problems he told me to ship the amp to them and they would take care of it. That is great support and quality serice. I had bought it used on ebay from a store so I sent the item back to the store and got a full refund.

I have been playing since I was 12 years old and I am 40 years old now so do the math. This amp is a keeper I know I have said this time and time again so who know what will happen but I am very satified with this amplifier and I know what makes me smile and proud.

This is a truly wonderful amp... the only thing that keeps me from ranking it higher in this category is the lack of channel switching. The basics are here... transcendant tone, lucscious reverb, marvelous touch sensitivity. But if you need to stomp on a switch and have your amp go from Twin Reverb clean to dimed 50 watt Marshall, this isn't your amp. This is a great amp for the player who can go from clean tone to crank tone by going from 7 to 10 on the volume knob on the guitar and leaning in a little harder with the pick or fingers.

I use this amp with all sorts of guitars, and it sounds delicious with everything from low output single coil Strats and Teles to solid body LPs to hollow jazz boxes with both humbuckers and P-90s. To my ears this amp works best with single coils... I use a '62 reissue Strat and a G&L ASAT CLassic with Duncan Alnico II pickups primarly on club gigs, and it sounds spectacular. Chime and vibe for days. Especially noteworthy to this former Mesa Boogie MKII C owner is how good it sounds outside on a big stage... the Boogie was like a flashlight with a very narrow cone of tone, but this amp really moves some air despite its relatively low wattage and has a wide sweet spot onstage. I lean towards the blues/jazz/country end of the spectrum and am a shameless reverb junkie... for me this amp is sublime. Players looking for the heavier end of the spectrum need to look elsewhere, but this is a marvelously musical tone buddy in rootsville.

Built like a tank... I've never thought twice about relying on it. These amps are built on the designs that Matchless came up with, which were (among other things) attempts to make Vox designs roadworthy through overbuilding the snot out of them.

I've had little reason to talk to them, but the one time I did call them I got the President of the company on the phone. Seems like pretty good service to me!

I've been playing for over 35 years and have owned all sorts of amps. This is unquestionably the most magical sounding amp I've ever owned... but at this price point, beauty is in the ear of the beholder. If I lost this amp for whatever reason, I would buy another in a heartbeat. I have a number of other amps, and it doesn't replace the Fender-ness of a blackface Super Reverb or the George Bensonesque thing that my old Polytone Minibrute gets... but it sounds just plain wonderful to these ears. It is brutally heavy for a 1x12 amp, but the tone is so fine that I'll drag it to the gig as long as I am able.

Bad Cat Trem cat has several unique features that allow you to get any sound desired, clean, dirty, or in between.
The reverb is very clean, and sweet, and the tremelo control is excellent, anything from a fine vintage sound to the modern surf.
As far as the power, I found that in 95% of my gigs this amp cuts through higher power other amps, and is often complemented by other players.
There is no independant channel swithing however, by cascading both inputs with a footswitch you can boost the crunch sound. The lower power switch makes it ideal for recording sessions. I often use it in the half power rating, and the volume is amazing for under 40 watts. I am an experianced player with over 35 years, and this is by far the best sounding rig I have ever owned.

Sound qaulity is a 10. The EL84 tubes give it a really nice overdrive, creamy, and dsspite the break up, a very sweet sound.
Metal players probally would find that this amp does not have enough power, but for blues, rock, soul, country, and pop, you can't beat it.
I use both single coil and humbuckers, and what ever guitar I plug into this rig, it rocks ! I only have had the amp at full power in one gig, and it still sounds great, though the really sweet spot seems to be the half power setting.
Tone controls are a bit rricky, you have to be very carefull of how much bass you add, as the speaker starts to break up a bit at full bass setting. The cut control is excellent, and the five postion tone control switch is more of a global tone control, depending on what sound you are seeking. It takes a small bit of time to optimize the amp for each guitar, but once it is dialed in properly, its amazing !

I own two bad cat amps, neither has ever given me any trouble what so ever. The power tubes should be changed on a regular basis, and I do reccomend you keep a spare set on the gig, so if the amp does start to loose its power, you can change them. Only down item is the mini tremelo speed switch , which you have to be carefull in transit to avoid breaking it off....

This is probally the only minor complaint, the dealers don't have parts to service the amp and all parts have to be ordered, ( a bit of a wait) which is why I have a backup CAT.
Clearly, you have to plan on down time if it goes out, but its a very reliable amp so I have not needed service on either of my Cats...

As stated prior I have over 35 years playing. I have also other amps a MESA BOOGIE, FENDER SUPER REVERB, and a TWO ROCK. The only other amp that comes close is the two rock, but the reliabilty of the two rock is pretty poor due to the switches and foot switch system.
I love the BAD C AT sound so much I bought a second one for back up and to do stereo amps in big gigs. This amp really sounds awesome, and the CATS are my main rig now.
EVERYONE who hears it loves it....as said before, you will have to spend some time on the tone control curve, but once you dial it in, you will never use another amp.
The only down side is the weight of the cats....they are NOT light, and built like a tank..so if you have a weak back..forget it, I have my band mates load it .
The price of a new cat is a bit high, but if you shop around you should be able to score one around 2 to 3K. That may seem like a LOT for an amp but the tone difference is worth it. Just close your eyes and open your wallet....
So my advice is spend the money and be happy...you get killer tone, great distortion, and great effects. AND buy a dolly to move this beast.....not a featherweight.

New style from Bad Cat. I played one for a while today so this is only a quick review.
This is pretty much the gain channel of the Black Cat Reverb with some very interesting twists. First of all, you've got 4 choices of tone controls. There is a 4 position selector that allows you take the tone controls completely out of the circuit. The 2nd choice is the predefined 4 position tone stack that we're familiar with on the Black Cat. The third option is a "normal" bass and treble knob config. The final choice is a combination of both the 4 position and the treble/bass pots. Lots of tone shaping choices. They really went out of their way on this one.
So, they took away the clean channel, but they added a very lush and spacious reverb and a really cool trem function. The trem has a long and short switch.
The amp also has a Cut and a defeatable Master Volume. Instead of the cheaper push/pull Master config of the Black Cat, they now are putting in a heavy duty on/off toggle. Much better.
On the back panel, they've now put the power and standby switch. Guess they ran out of room on the front stuffing the trem and verb in! There's a speaker out and an impedance selector (4,8,16). Finally on the back, there is a 30/15 watt attentuation toggle.
Features get a 10. Not sure they could have put anything else in. No clean channel? No problem. Just learn to use your guitar's volume control.
Hand-wired, point to point, heavy duty trannies, premium components, the entire Bad Cat package.

This is where it gets really good. It's all about tone. I ran some humbuckers through this amp and it really just sings. Clean or dirty, the amp performs. I am really a bit stunned at how much sound comes out of this single 12" speaker. It really blew me away. I also played several other amps today so, I had somethings like Carr and Top Hat to compare it to. In addition, I also played the Black Cat and the Hot Cat.
No noise at all. Reverb is lush and full. This is not the same modest reverb that is on the Black Cat Reverb. Who said Class A amps can't do lush heavy duty Fendery reverb? This one performs in the reverb department like an old Fender. I'm a big reverb guy and I was really impressed. The Trem has two control pots and a short/long switch. Got some cool tones out of it.
The amp chimes like you'd expect from a Vox-type 4xEL84 amp. The distortion is pure EL84. I'm very bad at describing tone, sorry. You really ought to play one of these. A few months back I played one of the Vox Hand Wired AC30 Reissues. The Trem Cat has a better reverb and trem. Both have really awesome distortion.

Who knows? But, Bad Cat has a good reputation and point to point handwired amps with no circuit boards are really much easier to repair. Especially in 20 years. Try finding a replacement circuit board in 20 years. No worries on that issue with these amps.

Well, you call the number and you get the president of the company. Try that at some of the big companies. I've actually called them with a question on an occassion and James (pres) answered the phone!

Great amp. If you want a super sweet single channel 4xEl84 amp with incredible trem and verb, you've found it. Time for me to sell some gear it appears. Try one. I'm sure you'll be equally impressed. There are some truly great amps out there when you get into the over $2000 range. This is one of them.
