Had this for about two years, but had the 2x12 combo before the head. Play mainly metal and hard rock, like a bit of blues and country too. But for what my band plays i use this rig for is mainly metal. Very versatile amp man, got the works on the back, tape in and out, line out l&r, cd line in with a volume to ajust input, slave in and out and a midi input too and headphone jack. Theres loads of effects, some useable most not. Built in tuner which is handy for gigging etc. She pushes 120w man, this thing rocks!! I run it through 2 cabs and man its a great weapon.

Sound Quality : 10
Play a SG and a dean z. My sound is very low end and this amp deals with it with plenty of head room. Got a real heavy metal sound when ya crank it. If ya buy this throw away yer pedals!! Got a nice feel to the sound to. Has some valve tone technology to it, dont ask me how they do it but its the most convincing sound ive heard yet.Listen, i bought a avt150 the other day thinking it would be a step up, but i brought that piece of junk back to the shop!!! If you want a cheap but quality piece of gig rig buy this. Ok, has its issues, but they workable. Theres a hum off it when you close to it, buy a longer lead!!! Really love this head man, for somebody who plays out and wants an affordable and workable rig i cant reccomend this enough. Best thing about it is when she dies someday i will throw her in the bin and buy another!!

Reliability : 10
Had it for 2 years now, gigged all over the country with it, never a cough. Been in and out of the cold thrown into the back of vans, cars and infact i left it in my car boot for 2 weeks once coz i forgot about it...no problem. Broke the jack input once tho, my fault as i stood on the lead and it just shattered.Been at this for years so know my way round gear, bought a new one from switch craft and bobs yer uncle, still rocking. If you buy this i reccomend using angled jack leads. Knobs are a little cheap, but its a cheap head!! Be good to yer gear and it will repay you back.

Had a querie about something before i got this, got back quickly via email.

Overall Rating : 10
Love this rig man, shes my wee baby!! Been playing for 18year man, in and outa bands all over the damn place. Had my share of all the brands and this wee beri beats them all hands down. But to the dudes who bang on about Mesa etc. i say yes, i would love one of them bad boys. But as long as im earning a honest wage and playing the odd gig here and there the wee beri will do me lovely!! Berhinger kicks ass, sound, quality, service, and damn right on affordablity!!! GET ONE!!! :)

Same as described in all other reviews...

Sound Quality : 10
I love it. Look people, i've played in a million bands, some good, some not so good. I've had JCM's, i've had Mesa's etc, just like all of you. Done the whole playing hollywood thing & " you have to have bomb equipment thing " etc. Like guitars, amps are what you feel. You could play a piece of crap hondo guitar, but it just feels right to you. As with amps, Behringer is a quality product to have fun with, home recording, destroying your neighbors ears. If it's not loud enough, you have a cab problem, as it clearly states in the manual a minimum of 8 ohms in stereo & 4 ohms mono. Find a 4 ohm cab in mono & then tell me it's not loud. I use a B52 switchable cab ( there higher end one ) & works just beautiful.

Plus, with that, who wants to buy all of those effects. Remember, music if fun, experiment with all the tones & create something trippy. I personally like it cause you can get that bowieesque sounds from it relatively easy...

Reliability : No Opinion
Had a Behringer Vampyre for years with not problems, so I expect this to do as well. It's home stuff, my rockstar wannabe days are over thank god... Music is fun, and i try to keep it that way now...

Customer Support : No Opinion
$190 amp, ah, if I call them i'll call them... I dig behringer stuff. Cheap, quality, fun, all wrapped into one.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've been playing for decades. I mainly play Washburns ( have 1 Idol pro & one Boogie Street Custom ), 1 Washburn D-11 acoustic, 1 ovation acoustic with the best action ever, & an Epi Dot Studio.

Everything is replaceable, except my dog.

The only thing I dont like is the latency between effects. I really wish it switched quicker like the vampyre.

MUSIC IS FUN !!! Enjoy it.

I think the amp is well described in the preceding reviews. It should be a more-than-adequate rocker for stage use when your music set is organized so well that you have a definite sequence of presets lined up for each song. However, if your needing to alter settings frequently, I find the unit a bit inflexible, and I think I prefer the GMX models better. Anyway, it is an amazing crunchy amp with a lot of great I/O features that I wish my Fender had. The amp is slow to switch between presets, and I think that is a huge weakness.

Sound Quality : 7
This amp makes all the great rock sounds that you hear on records. I normally use a Nextar guitar with it. I'm embarrassed to say that I have not invested the time to do any serious programming with it, but honestly, I can get every sound I want out of my Fender without having to deal with organizing a couple of hundred presets. This Behringer amp just sounds HUGE.

Reliability : 9
I have to replace a pot - shaft was broken because of mishandling. For the life of me, I can't get the chassis out of the cabinet. It looks simple enough, and I work on quite a few amps. So if someone out there would be kind enough to clue me in on this, I'd be most grateful. email gto9@netzero.com and I'll put you on my Christmas card list. Or I'll just sell it to you cheap as is.

I think I would trust this amp at a gig without a backup. But I just plain prefer the Fender because of its simplicity. So when I get this pot replaced on the Behringer, I'll probably sell the LX1200H to somebody that likes a hard-rocking but somewhat complicated amp.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The GMX212 that I bought - which by the way, a good friend of mine bought and uses constantly without any problems - came with a weak 12" speaker. As it turned out, although the amp was brand new, it was from an non-authorized dealer. Warranty attempt was a bit unpleasant and refused. But I hear they are fair and adequate most of the time. I'll just put "no opinion" as I think they are likely about as fair as most manufacturers.

Overall Rating : 8
I've actually been playing electric guitars for about 35 years. I buy and sell guitars and amps pretty often because I like new toys to play around with. I've enjoyed each Behringer amp I've had, and I wish Fender would add some more output flexibility to their combos. But despite Fender's little shortcomings there, I still love the ones that I've had. So I'm a Behringer fan, but a true lover of the Fender.

I just bought this 2006 behringer GMX1200H solid state (I use the stereo mode often) with 4x12 cab
I find that it carries what i need to get my "metal shred" on as well a smooth clean solos using the dual channel. the pedal is convienent cause it doesnt slide around the floor so its there where you stomped it last.
I am yet to use it in a show but seems to phase nicely in a jam spot.

Sound Quality : 8
There is alot of variety in this amp when it comes to the effects
Even the amp modeling seems to be what i am looking for. definitely a perpetuative confidence booster in composing you own tunes but expect to pull off a "dimebag", remember it is just a solid state. The cab i have for it is a behringer 4x12 with bugera speakers. The only complaint about the speakers is its lack of sensitivity. you really have to crank this amp to push a good sound. I recommend slapping in celestion 12inch vintage 30s and sell the bugeras on ebay to save your pocket. The celestions have a much greater sensitivity so you dont have to push you amp to get a high quality loud sound so invest and your opinions may change of this product

guitar: 1986 Westone X300 Pantera (Pearlescent Pink)"Don't laugh, colour isnt everything"
set up: H/S/S Seymour Duncan "Dimebucker"(Coil Tapped)/ Factory magnaflux single/Symour Duncan Hot Rail(CoilTapped)
Floyd Rose 22fret
Like anything, if you axe or amp is not grounded you will get country radio through it

Reliability : 9
Well I could depend on it but thats could be arguable. I am yet to use this at a show. Most shows have back up amps just in case so if it caffs out, that would surprise me and piss me off and probably never deal with this product except there microphones

Customer Support : 9
Well when I ordered it, it showed up in two work days. quick if you ask me.

Overall Rating : 10
Ive been playing for 11 years and i also own a 1972 traynor YGM4 studiomate 4x8 tube amp. Sounds much like a fender twin I compared the behringer to a line 6 solid state which would of been my second choice but i didnt like the tones it gave me. It all depends on tastes really. And one piece of advice. Name brand amps an guitars arent always the quality youd expect them to be. And pick ups in any guitar are really the master to your tone and its personality.Choose then wisely. Some times its not the amp that sucks. Its your pick ups. Thanx for reading this.

Versatile for what I play? Yes. Luckily I don't play much beyond metal/rock or this wouldn't work. Only thing I wish it had was the option to edit effects on the fly like the V-Ampire (which I also own).

Sound Quality : 2
Bought this amp because I liked the "Soldano-esque" tone I got from it. I'm putting together a low-cost rig to play Lynch Mob (George Lynch) music and this amp is great for it. The raw distortion/overdrive tones are much better quality than the V-Ampire because of the analog circuitry (Have never really been a fan of digital amp modelers other than the POD). Very brutal metal tone. Not a lot of variety in tones, but for what it has it is what I need. CHANNEL SWITCHING IS WORTHLESS! WAY TOO MUCH LATENCY!! That alone brings down my rating for this category.

Reliability : 8
Bought a V-Ampire damaged and works like a charm; I can expect the same from the GMX1200. I'm always paranoid about gigging without a backup - no matter what I'm using.

Overall Rating : 7
Been playing for almost 10 years now. I also own the Behringer V-Ampire head, Rockman X100, Johnson J-Station, and a Crate GFX-212. Guitars include Peavey Tracer, OLP MM1FR, Applause GTX23, and several custom built guitars. If this was lost or stolen, I would probably buy it again if I could pay the same price I paid. Otherwise, I'd find something else.

The dirty sounds are great, got mine to sound just like a marshall 900. 2 Channels, if you are looking for a all dirty head, this is for you. The "clean" channel volume can't even compete with a practice amp...but switch it over to a dirty Rythem/Lead configuration and you are good to go. Needs to push a bit more volume for my liking...not enough power for nice clean tones..

Sound Quality : 9
Plain and simple on this one:

Clean sounds: There is NO GOOD WAY TO GET A GOOD CLEAN TONE LOUD ENOUGH TO PLAY OUT WITH, so don't waste your time.

Dirty sounds: RIP YOUR HEAD OFF AWESOMENESS....bone chilling distortion compareable to a marshall 900.

A bit noisy...put a noise reducer between your pickups and the amp and you are good to go.

Reliability : 10
No problems ever.

Customer Support : 9
No issues with Behringer, they always reply to my emailed concerns...no complaints here.

I have been playing for about 20 years, I would certainly replace it if it get lost. In fact, I am looking to team it up with Behringers other Vamp head

99 Effects.
2 Channels
Amp Models: Tweed, UK, US
Cab Models: Flat, UK, US
Gain Settings: Clean, Hi Gain, Hot
Headphone jack
CD In
Built in Tuner
Foot Pedal

This amp has everything I need. I don't really use the effects that much but they are there and will save you a lot of money because you don't have to buy multiple effects pedals. This definetly has enought power for anything I will ever need. It is loud.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with an Epiphone Les Paul Standar Plus. It has two humbuckers. This suits my style. I play anything from music such as Saves the Day to stuff like Bane. I can get any sounds out of it too. If I want a vintage bluesy sound... I can get it. The distortion can get very brutal. The sound of this amp is very versatile.

Reliability : No Opinion
I haven't really had it long enough or moved it enough to rate this that well. It seems to be built very sturdy.

Customer Support : 9
I haven't had to deal with the company yet. The web site is very informative, and you can get any information you want off of that site.

The warranty is one year long and non transferable.

This is my only "real" amp that I own. The other is a small 15 watt practice amp. If it were stolen or lost I would buy another one. The amp is a great value. Very versatile and loud for only $200.00.

I just bought this amp this year. This is my first non practice amp that I have owned. I wanted something that wasn't too expensive but still delivered and that that is what I got. It is a solid state amp and can do stereo or mono. I have it hooked up to the ULTRASTACK BG412V and I have never put it near highest volume. It has a great clean channel and I love putting it on high gain while simulating a US cab. It has 2 channels and more than 100 effects. The channel and effects are controlled by the included foot pedal. It also has a build in tuner. This is a nice added feature. It also has an headphone jack for quiet practicing. This has all of the features that I need. There are some features that I will probably not use but I won't ever need to buy effects pedals again. I use this amp just at my house and hopefully I will eventually use it in a band.

Sound Quality : 10
I am playing an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus. This has the 2 double humbuckers. This definetly suits my music style. I can get the distortion for playing hardcore or even vintage sounds from the 60's and 70's.

Reliability : No Opinion
I have not had this long enough to know the reliability of it. I have not had any problems so far but that is not to say that I won't

I have only been playing almost a year now. This is the only head I have. I have played through some other amps and this is just as good if not better. You get a lot more bang for the buck. You may not have the Marshall name but you can get just as good of sound out of it.

I just bought this amp brand new in September 2005. It is a two channel amp with built in FX and speaker/head simulations. For the style I play, I can get exactly the sound I want. The FX are good, it's too bad you can't add more than one effect at a time on each channel, but that is only a minor problem. This amp could have all the features you could ever want; it sounds FABULOUS with headphones, can be used to record directly onto tape or into a mixing board, or used in a stack set up. I also ordered the cab that goes with this, the BG412V, so I haven't tested that part with it yet. I hooked it up to a cheapo Ibanez cab and got decent sound out of it in the music store, but it wasn't hooked up in stereo so I couldn't get the full effect.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using this head with a Schecter Stealth guitar which has a Seymour Duncan distortion pickup and a Seymour Duncan '59 in it. I play METAL music influenced by a variety of late 80's/early 90's speed/death/black metal bands. The main reason I got this was because it has virtually the same tone as my V-amp2 which is a tight, crunchy tone-not too overdriven, enough to sound heavy but you can still clearly hear every note. I also add a touch of chorus which is included on the FX knob. I use channel 2 for my clean channel, also with that I use a Boss AC-2 acoustic simulator which gets the acoustic tones I need very well. The only drawback to the sound, which was mentioned in other reviews, is the overall NOISE. I'm sure I could get Behringer's noise gate for $30 and that would help alleviate this problem.

Reliability : 8
Well, it powers on fine, it's heavier than a concrete block and looks very well put together. My only gripe here is that without noticing one of the knobs snapped off. I have no idea when this may have happened, but when I inspected the knobs I noticed how easily this could happen. Be VERY CAREFUL when moving this puppy, and I'd even suggest picking up a couple spare replacement knobs just in case one snaps!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with Behringer-I've used quite a few of their products; the V-amp2, B-2 studio microphone, a 16-track mixer, and now this amp, and haven't had to contact them once. I am going to try their customer service about getting some replacement KNOBS. I will update this review after I have gone through that process.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing music now for 15 years. The bottom line with this product is entry-level music equipment has come a LONG way since then. Back when I started playing there would be NO WAY you could get an amp with all these features, never mind a good quality one, at a price around $200. If this amp cost $400 I'd STILL buy it, because quite simply, it has MY guitar tone. I had a LINE-6 spider 210 which had a decent NU-METAL tone, which I personally do not like. I believe I paid $400 for that combo which I promptly sold. The clean sounds on the behringer equal that of the line6. I guess the bottom line is, if you want NU-METAL, go with Line-6; if you want classic, true metal or death/black metal, go with Behringer!! Even if you don't like the tones on this head, there are a million different distortion pedals you could buy and hook up to this head to get the tone you want. You're still only paying $200 for the head!!

2 Channel analog modeling
2 X 60 watt output @ 8ohms each channel. This means two cables to hook up to your speaker cabinet. No variable Ohms out like some other heads have.
Three Amp Sims, Three Speaker Sims, three modes(levels of gain)
Built in effects.

I am using a Yamaha AES620(Seymour Duncan JB humbucker bridge) and a Fender 2x12 cabinet with Celestion Vingtage 30's. I'm been playing for about 25 years on and off. Sound preference is a very subjective issue, so take it with a grain of salt.

It can get some good distortion tones, actually some very nice heavy and 70's type, but I find I need a noise gate or it's feedback time. It is capable of getting plenty loud distorted.

The onboard effects are decent, but if you want to change thier settings you either need a midi program or a midi pedal board. I personally don't like that find it more trouble than it's worth.

The clean tones are not loud. Even with the volume cranked it's still not as loud as it should be. If you are looking for a amp to play clean tones with this amp is not for you. The clean tones on this amp are a big thumbs down.

I find that this amp and effects pedals do not go together, even in the effects loop. Something makes them sound not right, muffled. My Boss Acoustic Sim pedal sounds horrible on this amp, but awesome through my Roland Cube 30. I have tried a distortion pedal as well and it sounded horrible also.(But, the amp distortion without a pedal is pretty good. I just wanted to see what a pedal would do.)

Changing channels I get a delay. Not good in the the middle of a song.
It gets a low grade for the horrible clean channel.

Reliability : No Opinion
It isn't broken yet, so who knows.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with them yet.

Overall Rating : 5
For the price it's got a ton of features, but a lot of shortcomings also in my opinion. I think it would be good for a beginner, but I think a serious player will outgrow it and want better quickly. The onboard effects sound good, but tough to modify should you so desire. The clean channel is not what a clean channel should be and I don't think it plays nice with effects pedals. This is a beginner head for someone who wants a lot of features without dishing out Marshall/Mesa bucks and still get an OK sound. It's distortion is it's strongpoint, but it's clean is a definate weakness. I bought this head because I wanted an affordable head for a good cabinet that I had. Knowing what I know now I wish I had saved my money a little longer and bought higher end head.

Mesa/Boogie, Marshall and Fender distortion by analog simulation
High, Moderate and Low tube gain simulation by analog circuitry
Mesa/Boogie, Marshall or Fender speaker simulation by analog circuitry

2 channels each with the analog modeling, 3 band EQ, volume, drive controls and assignable effects program.
Analog circuitry to simulate tube responce and tone characteristics

Presence control and master volume control coupled with digital effects processor with more tube amp simulation.

The back is loaded with ins and outs for direct recording and any other sort of connection set up you could desire.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound is very tubey. The response is fairly organic and gives or takes in response to your playing.

You WILL need a pedal on this head to play lead and get TRUE metal ronch tones. The thing is, you can get it to sound just like a rectifier. I mean it really does sound like a duel or even triple rectifier depending how loud you crank it.

You can use the digital processors tube amp simulation to get the gain you need for lead or to simply get a killer Fender blackface tone, but it sounds best when teamed with a pedal. I run a Danelectro Fabtone on it and it thunders and screams like a rectifier on steroids.
I imagine a tube pedal would really get it to give a perfected rectifier tone, but as it is it should satisfy anyone.

The effects sound great and the channel intelligent effects function is a nice touch.
Over all, this is the amp you want to take to gigs and the studio. Leave your expensive tube big boys at home without worry of it affecting your performance.

Reliability : No Opinion
It weighs like 55 lbs! I mean it's as heavy as a tube amp but seems really damn solid.

Time will tell....

Customer Support : No Opinion
They are good people but not always on the mark with tech questions.
I have never dealt with them in regards to warranty service.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
One of the best investments I have made though I find myself saying this about ever Behringer purchase I have made.

It's basically the Tech 21 design improved upon. You really do get the feel and response of a good tube amp. My speakers give that groany midrange like honking sound even when I scoop out all the mids and boost bass and treble. That's very impressive for a solid state amp to do.

I run this head on my Behringer BG412H angled cabinet. It is loadead with the Behringer Shark speakers and sounds incredible. When I team this with one of my custom guitars run through a pedal for a moddest amount of gain, I get the tube amp honk and response of a rectifier.

The only thing I wish this amp had was a custom tube gain stomp box for pushing it over the edge. I mean it already sounds and responds like a tube amp so why not take it the final step. I play some pretty intricate lead work and found it to sound so much more organic and natural through this rig in comparison to my others....it was almost upsetting because until this week, this rig was my dust collecting secondary due to space availability (two half stacks in a bedroom is overkill!)

For the money you are a fool, a damn fool not to buy one.

I use a Mexican Strat with single coil pickups. This amp absoloutly shreds in my pop/rock band, it even keeps up with our lead guitarists Marshall. No noise or feed back problems even when pushing it on 8 or 9. Great clean and distortion settings with great effects. NO distortion on clean channels even with the master on 8. Distortion kicks for general rock purposes.

Basic two channel amp.

Limited Midi control.

Sounds ok but clean channel is not worth the space of the switch.

Not a versatile amp for gigging, they would proberly be better of making a small 10 watt home practice amp in this format.

Sound Quality : 2
Sounds are OK..........IF

You use Humbuckers. Once you connect a single coil ( aka Strat, P90 ) based guitar up to this amp then be prepared to stand at least 4 metres ( 12 feet ) away from the amp otherwise the hum noise will make you thrown the thing out of the window

( Behringer take not, shield the mains transformer )

If you gig and have to stand nearer the 4 metres to this amp and use a single coil pickup config then DO NOT buy this amp, you will regret it every minute of the day.

Reliability : 3
I have heard of some problems relating to channel one going dead.

Customer Support : 1
Try emailing Behringer a few questions and you will find out the customer support is seriously lacking.

Very poor.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
If they shielded the mains transformer, responded to questions and gave the amp some more basic Midi control functions then it would be a contender.

Perhaps this is the reason it is one of the cheapish ones, but there are far better modelling amps out there that are much more usuable for only a few Pounds /Dollars more.

2004, Very versatile 2 channel amp. It's got the effects loop you don't need with so many built in effects, headphone jack and CD or MIDI in, line out. 2-8 Ohm spkr outs, non-adjustable. 3 amp sounds, Tweed, British, and US(Mesa Boogie type), clean, hi-gain, and hot(for each channel). 2x60 watt @ 8 ohms stereo. I play blues/rock/metal. Each channel has multiple setups and effects, slight switching delay. Very quiet, no buzzing, and sqweel only on certain effects settings.

Sound Quality : 10
It sounds great with single coils and humbuckers without the BS resetting everything like on my Carvin SX300. I can't play my custom Carvin Bolt-T on the Carvin Amp, but it sounds great on the V-Tone. On hi-gain the SX is very noisey and the V-Tone out gains it without any noise!!! The L-280s on the Bolt-T don't sound good on my Laney ProTube either. The tweed setting is very clean but noticeably lower volume. I just found the octave distortion setting and it sounds 10x better than my Danelectro French Toast. You can get loud brutal metal tones, but if you go too far it gets mushy.

It is solid state and built well but sounds like a very good tube amp, without the overheat and bring spare tubes problems. I don't anticipate any problems, and would use it without backup.

Never needs repair. I did talk to them about the cab I got with it. They were friendly and informative.

It was an unbelieveable deal $430 for the stereo half stack, but I have it driving a Crate and a Carvin 4x12 for full stack. I have the noisey Carvin SX300 on two Behringer 4x12s (16 Ohms each). Laney ProTube head. Carvin Bolt-T, 3 Strats (one Emg-ZW), Jay Turser hollowbody, LP, Agile Hornet Flying V. I love the quietness and authentic sounds from this amp. I didn't really need it, but I'm glad I got it. Its tube emulation is better than the SX which is saying a lot, and it is more versatile and even better sounding sometimes than the Laney hot rod tube head. I wish it had Ohm adjustment so I could drive two Behringer cabs (it will, but at 1/2 power). I think it is the very best bang for the buck there is, and I've been playing 30 years.

First a little background: I bought this head mainly for home practice but hoping I could use for practice sessions with my band (I wasn't so optimistic to think I could use it on stage). It's so cheap, and I don't always want to carry my 50lb tube head and another 3-sp rack with FX, I tought, why not try it? I'd been using a Rocktron VooduValve for practice with a Carvin power amp. Thing is, I am constantly fiddling with the presets (while that unit is capable of very good metal sounds, it takes a lot of work to get them and I'm never satisfied). This amp is a 2-channel no-brainer.

Well, after playing with it for the last week through all kinds of cabs, I can say that there are great tones in this head, with a more amp-like response than the all-digital modelers. This uses "analog" modeling, they say. Don't know...but the amp breathes and you can feel the speaker pump. Not that bee-in-a-jar crap you often get with many of them. However: the tone controls are VERY sensitive AND interactive with each other. It takes lots of fiddling to get the good tones. There are also lots of BAD tones! Once I arrived at great tone, I wish I could then save it as a preset (!) because if you readjust your high-gain rhythm tone for a more prominent lead tone, when you want to go back to that rhythm tone having the mids or treble off by a slight bit can make it sound like dung.
Alas, it is analog, so there are no presets.
I find having just 2 sounds too limiting, even for practice. At a minimum I always want 4: A clean no-break-up sound, a bluesy overdrive, a high-gain metal rhythm, and a creamy mids-heavy lead sound. Well, that ain't gonna happen without the above-described fiddling. Looks like I'll be selling and going back to...? My fave modeling amp (having tried most) is the Yamaha DG series. Easy amp-like tonal tweaking, storable presets, amp-like response. Only problem is it doesn't get a real aggressive metal tone.

The other major problem with the GMX1200H is the clean channel does not get NEARLY loud enough for use with a band. I can set the drive no higher than 6 using parallel single coils before breakup, (the mode switches on tweed, clean, UK) and that works best, but even with the master volume is on 10 it's not loud. For our band that makes it absolutely useless. I've found with ANY of my cabs using one of the 2 cab emulations helps give it life. For clean tone, UK works well, CA does not.

By the way, the combination of the your cab and cab emulator it critical. The best I found was using a high-power speaker that does not add any coloration itself (an Eminence Delta Pro) and using either the UK or CA models. If using the cab models you'll have to back of the bass considerably, and tweak the mid and treble again.

Well in the end you have to admit it IS a great value. A few short years ago modelers didn't sound this good. This is as good as the Tech 21 stuff which always claimed to be "analog", but it cost 1/3 the price and has some passable digital effects.

You may wonder why I bought a 2-chan head if I thought I wanted 4+ sounds at quick disposal... good question! I've sold every digital modeler I've ever owned looking for a more amp-like response...This has it, but now I miss the presets. What can I say?

I have been playing for over 25 years and the tone search as with most guitarists is never ending. I Play BC Rich USA exclusivly all with DiMarzio Megadrive humbuckers. This is the best modeling amp I have used yet for a variety of reasons I'll get to later on. Distortion is great, the combinations are sufficient, the DSP has a few good quality effects worth mentioning but it's to long to go into all that here. This is an amp review not an effects review. Typical DSP.

Ok here it comes, the head is super flexible and you can hook it up to just about anything you'd want. The stereo effected gain through head phones is awesome. I have played or owned them all at one time or another: Marshall (old and new), Mesa Rectifier, Peavey(trans and tube), Crate (trans and tube) Line6, NYC Tech, it goes on. I found one constant with all these amps none of them sound really good when pushed at volume live. This head can keep up with all the rest if used properly. First off it has a tendancy to buzz, I have found it is hyper-sensitive to the power source and cords being used, problem solved. There is a split second delay in channel and effect switching, well, hey! it electronic!, and to be expected. It is however very versitile and can sound great in all modes. If you don't have an EQ (and this goes for EVERY AMP ON THE PLANET) it won't sound as good as it should. The outputs let you set this up every concievable way, just about. The sounds it phenominal through the phones, line out to recording, through a home stereo (i.e. Home Theater amp, etc)or direct to the PA board.

BUT!!!!!!

Through a standard cab it's marginal at best. The typical irritations of Mid "C" twang, tinny, sometimes muddy, and not quite full. This has been my plague for years with all the equipment I have had. I suspect that it due to the limited vocal range of the typical guitar speaker. I am almost tempted to try it through a Bass Cab. I currently own a Peavey XXX Head and love it, but it has some of the same problems so I feel vindicated. I suspect that the tone of the as recorded (heard on the album) sound is near impossible to get with standard equipment short of being a millionaire with a sound crew. All in all definately worth the buy for the money, even as a back up. Yes I would get it again. Refer to the GMX212 Combo for other opiniions as it is nearly identical to the head.
