This review is for a new 2003 model. It's a two channel amp, one clean one distortion. The GX112 comes with 99 effects, all editable. Most of them are usable. It has all kinds of I/O's. I use this amp for practice, but believe it would work for small venues, in fact, I plan on using it for a summer camp gig this summer. It's a solid state with Virtube technology. No, it does not sound just like a tube amp, but then, you don't have to worry about tube reliability. For the money, it's a winner.

Sound Quality : 10
My main guitar is an American Made Fender classic stratocaster. It has the SSH pickup configuration with Floyd Rose brige. All stock. The clean channel is absolutely wonderful sounding to me. I play alot of jazz for personnal pleasure. My Fender tone comes through full and bell like in sound quality. Not only does the clean channel really shine with the single coils, it has a great blues distortion with the humbucker in the brige position. It just growls out that tone I love. The only amp I've personnaly played that I like better is the Fender Hot Rod Deville with 2 12's. But at $750, I can't afford it. I only paid $199.00 brand new for this amp. I would recommned it to anyone with a need for an inexpensive practice or recording amp. The guy who plays bass with me thinks it sounds really good also. He's pretty picky about tone too. He plays a Warwick 6 string bass through a GK. Together, his tone and mine with the Behringer- wow!!! Again, it's not tube, but I have no complaints about the good sound that comes from this amp. I'd say it's perfectly suited for Jazz, Classic Rock, Pop, Country, Blues, Funk, Disco, Hip Hop, 50's music, most any other, but not heavy metal, at least not without a pedal in the chain.

Reliability : 9
I've not had this amp very long, however, I also own a Behringer Vintager with tube preamp and a Behringer Ultrabass BX 1200. I've never had any trouble with any Behringer product. And at the price you pay, if it dies in 5 years, just go buy another one!!! The front knobs seem to be pretty cheap. They turn easily, but I think they're plastic, at least they feel thay way. The input jack are metal, but the knobs- I prefer the old metal shaft type.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed it, but being that the company is in Germany, you do the math. I bought this from American Musical supply and it came with a one year factory warrenty and an extra year coverage from AMS for free.

Overall Rating : 9
I would definitly buy another one if it were lost or stolen or destroyed. For the money, it's a no brainer. I've owned a Marshall MG50RCD, a Crate, and here recently a Tech 21 Trademark 10. In comparison to these, this amp swamps them all. If it had the sansamp XLR out like the Tech 21, it would be close to perfect.

Berhinger Blue Devil 2002 model

Versatility: I play a '74 Fender Strat (American) without any modifications and the original single-coil pups as well as an Epiphone PR-650N 6-string acoustic and do everything from old Scotty Moore (Elvis) leads to AC/DC to Hank Williams -- this amp can handle that just fine without exterior effects. Only the really high-end amps can beat the clean or Heaven channel sound -- honestly, it's by far the best I've heard not only in this price range but probably up to even a six or seven hundred dollar range. It's so close anyways that if you're watching your budget, as seemingly 98 percent of guitarists are, you'll pick up this one.

Channels -- two channels -- Heaven as I mentioned and Hell, which is the built-in effects channel. The two share an EQ which is a small drawback and not much of one for me. There are 99 preset effects which you can mess up to your heart's content and then simply reset back to the factory settings and start over. Might be nice if it doesn't increase the price considerably to have the ability to reset particular effects only instead of all 99 at once but that may be quibbling.

Wish it had -- Well, not much really. I swapped a little 25-watt Peavey practice amp and cash with a buddy for this one so ended up costing me basically about $250. The Behringer just got to be a pain for him to haul around as a practice amp -- he travels the U.S extensively and wanted something smaller and lighter. This amp has good weight and is solid. Of course you can break it but I am guessing it would take a better than average effort to do so. One thing is wah-wah -- the built-in effect is fine but it can't sub for a pedal. So I plugged mine in. Problem solved. So if you want other specialty effects since the presets can't mix, you'll have to plug in your boxes. Okay, it handles them fine. Be nice if they made the effects mixable in upcoming models -- but not if it's going to increase the price by $200.

Use -- I use this amp playing in and out. This is a 60-watt killer. I know anyone under 25 swears that anything less than 100-watts is not worth owning but this amp can stand out alongside any 100-watt unit that is on the cheaper end (not a Marshall or such -- you know what I mean). It cuts through bar noise with ease even when I use my Epiphone through it. And if you're just starting out, you're broke. And if you're broke and want 100-watts, you're gonna have to buy crap. And if you buy crap what you have is a 100-watts of crap. Seriously, you will be very happy and your friends and fellow pickers will be amazed at the power this little bugger has. Really, the power is plenty for almost anyone short of Pete Townshend. My dogs run and hide and my wife screams when I crank it up at home so you know you're making some noise. And I never get past 4 at home.

Misc -- Really I was a little apprehensive when my buddy broached the idea of a swap. My little Peavey really served it's purpose as a simple, inexpensive practice and go-anywhere amp. I was at point in my playing where I'd sold off some equipment and was re-engineering and re-evalutaing my sound and equipment. This amp fits the bill perfectly and incredibly inexpensively for gigs or practice. I haven't regretted it for a moment since. I've played for 25 years and for 20 years on a paying basis and this amp and the next models of it will probably be the amps I use for the rest of my life.

I give it a 9 out of 10 overall because it is not the best amp in the world -- it is however better than 95 percent of them and the remaining five percent are at least three-times more expensive. In it's price range, hands-down best amp ever made in the $250 to $300 range. Period. 10 out of 10.

Oooops -- wrote my whole thing here -- you'll get the drift -- you're bright; I can see it in your eyes.

No need to explain here..Outstanding very good value for mony. Some of the Effects are outstanding.

Sound Quality : 7
Sound it seems can be better. I can't the fuller sound I used to get on my small crate gfx15 amp.

Reliability : 9
Just bought it..so I don't know but it looks sturdy and good so unless until you expose it to the extreme..it should be good.

Never dealt with them

If I lost it and I had more mony...perhaps I would buy a Marshall or Crate amps and an effect processor..line 6 or even behringer's v-amp.
If I don't have that kind of mony..I'll have to buy it again :)

made in june 2002 // 2 channels: heaven for clean sounds, hell for all the heavey ones // footswtich included, allows channel select and effetc on-off // fx-loop, headphone jack, stereo line out, aux-in // 12" jensen speaker 75w // solid state amp, 65w // built-in fx (31 different ones) 99 presets

In this priece range it should deserve 10 points. but because there's no speaker out and the equalizer is shared for both channels I'll give it "just" 8.

Sound Quality : 8
okay. I'm playing a yamaha rgx and a peavey raptor plus, both humbucker and single coul equipped, straight into the amp.

Clean Channel: sounds great! 10 points! (especially if you add a spring reverb effect). nothing more to say. doesn't matter if you use sc or humb. nice clean sound!

Lead Channel: it's okay. 7 points. It's no mesa, it's no marshall and so on. but it sounds good for a solid state amp. has lot of gain. a seperate equalizer would be nice.

FX: some sound great, some sound s**t. 7 points because the important fx are good! check out the spring reverb! it kicks ass! flanger chorus and delay are nice, too. the presets with mixed effects are satisfying.

this amp fits clean, bluesy and rock stuff. for metal sounds I would prefer a seperate pedal in front of the amp.

note: like many other fx boards there is a delay when switching channels. solution: set the same effect on every channel. or: connect fx send with aux in and turn aux volume all the way up (use a patch cable. and: the fx loop can't be used any more - I'll try the midi floorboard, maybe it works okay with it, too). removing the backpanel will result in a less bassy sound - depends on what you like.

works. will work. has to work. I'll see...

I emailed them because of the delay. they answered quick but they couldn't give me a satisfying answer. So 7 points.

if you don't want to use an external cab and if you want to use the built-in effects this amp works for you, it's loud enough on rehearsal and for that price there is no other amp to buy. if you want to spend more try the h&k edition silver or save your money for a stack. I would by it again, even if I'd just use it for practise.

This is my sore spot(I'm keeping in mind the price so I'll try not to get on a high horse) Its pretty good on headphones but the speaker to me sucks, quality of clean sound does not come close to my chaep Vox Cambridge 30.I seek to overcome this by replacing the speaker with a Celestion. That should cure it

My Blue Devil is a 2002 model,I was about to buy a Kustom 65 watt when I saw the Blue Devil and plugged it in.What a good move, the Blue Devil walked all over the Kustom, and the Fenders in the same price range, and it did a number on the Peaveys to.99 effects, clear as a bell on the "heaven "channel and I do mean clear, try it through some headphones to really hear it.

I play a stock '97 Peavey Wolfgang archtop and a Carvin Bolt Strat.

By the time you arrive to my review, you already know what the amp has!
It's a (quite)lightweight amp with a 12inch speaker, two switchable channels and built-in FX and MIDI.
There's little I would have wished. More edit options via a computer would have been nice, particularly for the chorus/flanger/phaser section, and independent Eq too. But for the money I payed, I feel bad for writing this...
I don't think there's better amp for the money.
I use it for rehearsing and playing with a world-jazz band with bass, electronic drums and several other instruments. I have enough volume for both, and the fact that I don't need to carry my rack is VERY nice.

Sound Quality : 10
I play two guitars with this one: a Washburn J6s archtop and a Casio MG510. Both sound very good, and I can get both a good jazz tone and full distortion and everything in between. The AUX in is very good for me with the MIDI guitar, since I can send there my Roland module.
Some effexts could be better, particularly the chorus, but I must confess I can't find a decent affordable chorus that I like, so it may be my problem...

Reliability : No Opinion
I've been using it for several months with no problems, but I can't comment since I don't abuse my equipment. For my type of use it's perfectly OK.

Customer Support : 7
I mailed Behringer with some suggestions and a couple of questions, and they answered me the following day, very friendly and informative.

I play professionally since almost 15 years ago. I owned a couple of Fender amps, and play regularly with a VOX AC30, played Marshalls and all kind of Peaveys during my life. If it were stolen, and the price was the same, I would definitely buy it again. For some more money too, since I don't have to carry my FX. I compared it to the amp I was actually looking for, a Fender Princeton, and a Laney. Again, it sounds every bit as good, and costed me less. Great buy, and a very good amp for a project stusio, since it has line outs, MIDI and FX-.

Considering how cheap this amp is (in regards to cost, not construction), this thing comes jam packed with features. It has 2 footswitchable channels (heaven = clean, hell = distortion). It also has 99 effects presets which are all customizable (Chorus, Flanger, Delay, Wah, Stage sound, Concert Sound, Compressor, Phaser, many many more). You can also customize settings on the presets and save them so you dont have to fumble with the knobs if you switch effects and want to go back to one you were using before. If you get tired of that, you can easily reset the preset back to factory.

65 Watts, 12-inch Jenson speaker, Channel volume and master volume controls. Midi, input, aux out, headphone jack, and a 2 button footswitch built like a tank. You name it, this amp has it somewhere.

Sound Quality : 10
I use an Ibanez RG470 with stock pups (Hum/S/Hum). I play heavy rock to metal most of the time, this amp does really awesome in this category. You can get a very Van Halen like sound out of it to AC/DC. If you want super heavy metal/nu-metal-ish sound, you probably want to equip this amp with a good distortion pedal. But it rocks pretty hardcore as it is anyways. It has 2 or 3 presets that emulate cabs of Marshall and Mesa amps and they give you that metal sound you might be looking for, but this disqualifies you from using any other effects on the distortion channel so again, I recommend a good distortion pedal if you want heavy sound and still want to use some of the other effects.

Amp isnt all too noisy. It cranks pretty loud and I haven't even had the guts to turn it up full blast yet. Clean channel is AMAZING as well, Very good on both channels.

Reliability : 7
I wouldnt say this thing is like an armored car. A good sized drop would probably hurt this thing pretty bad. Its mostly particle board but it holds up pretty well nonetheless. If you tighten up the screws a bit, it holds together pretty well. Sturdy amp, but definitely not bulletproof.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No Comment; Haven't had a problem yet with this amp.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing about 5 months and I learn pretty quickly. I started with a little 15W Peavey but as I got more and more into playing, I definitely wanted something with better tone and louder volume. Considering the price of this amp, you can't go wrong. Its loud enough to rattle windows but plays great even at low volumes as well.

If your a minimum wage working guy like me and dont have alot of money to throw at a Mesa or a Marshall, this I would say is the next best thing. For the price anyways.

For the price, the features of this amp are exceptional. True, the effects cannot be combined, but they all sound like very high quality effects. Chorus, Delays, Reverbs, etc. all sound as if they belong on a high-end effects unit (lexicon, tc electronics, line 6). It appears as though Behringer, as they usually do with all of there products, is offering a level of quality in this amp that is not normally found at this price.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
I've played lots of different styles of music, but my preferences lean towards more aggressive stuff. Anything fueled by powerful emotions is what i like to hear, and play. I like Gibson guitars, as well as ESP's, and if i'm in the mood, i'll play on a Fender. Mostly I lean towards humbucking pickups, but i like single coils as well, especially on fender strats and jaguars. The Blue Devil has sounded good with every guitar i've played through it.
I think overall, this amp shines with straight clean/distorted sound. Just a guitar, cable, and amp setup. There are no amazing tones or crystaline clarities, its just well balanced tone at low or high volumes. The clean channel (Heaven) has good clarity and warm tone. The distorted channel (Hell) also has good clarity and warm tone, and is very well balanced between the highs and lows. Actually, the distorted channel is a powerful overdrive, not a distortion, but unless you're a gearhead, you won't know the difference. The gain stage is good, but it will not get "super-saturated" like the lead channels on marshall TSL's, Mesa TripleRect's, VHT, Diezel, or whatever. However, a true guitarist will eventually learn, as I have, that lots of gain doesn't always equal heavier sound. I rarely use all that gain when i play on a Mesa or a VHT, at least not for basic sound. With this lesson in mind, I don't have trouble dialing in "old metallica" sounds or any of the "nu-metal" sound all you little kiddies like so much. For extra-high gain, the simple addition of an external pedal or processor will do the trick, and sounds very good on the clean (heaven) channel.
The EQ knobs, though not super smooth to the touch like high-end amps, are sonically sensitve definatley work well. They offer a large amount of control and versatility, and are much better than most EQ's on lower-priced combo amps. One of the best qualities of the sound is it's resemblance to a true tube amp. You would normally have to pay a whole lot more money to get that natural sounding compression, sensitivity, and tone that this amp has. Behringer's "Virtube" technology seems to do it's job well.
Here are some things I have done to experiment with the sound:
1. The back of this amp can be removed, being held on by only four screws. Depending on the types of sounds you're shooting for, this can be a very effective modification. Also, patches 97, 98, and 99 on the built in effects processor are speaker cabinet emulators. Experimentation with these patches will yield pleasurable results, especially for those who aim for a heavier "metal" or "blues" sound.

2. For a band i'm in that plays heavier stuff (and i don't mean pussy stuff - "real" heavy music), I've used an external processor (Line 6 POD Pro) into the effects return on the back of the amp. I bypass the "heaven" and "hell" channels all together and just use the master volume. My guitar plugs into the processor, so i don't use the effects send jack, just the return. There is no "loop" established. I am very pleased with the results of this configuration, as I'm sure anyone else would be. I've also done it with lesser expensive Korg and Digitech units.

3. Finally (and i strongly recommend this) this amp has two line out jacks. The sound from these jacks is excellent. I've used it to plug into PA systems, mixers, and recorders, all with good results. Currently, for a hardcore/math-rock/chaotic band i play with, i plug my guitar straight into the amp's input, then i go from the line out into the "power amp input" on an old Crate GX212. then i use the Crate's 120 watts of power to push a 4x10 peavy cabinet. by using the "power amp input" on my crate, i'm bypassing it's preamp, so all the sound is generated by the Blue Devil. I get an excellent sound using this configuration, especially from the dis

Reliability : 9
The construction is very solid. It has survived lots of abuse and several shows in which i used it as a clean amp with a few effects. I'd expect my Marshall DSL to fail before this amp.

Overall Rating : 8
I've owned this amp for over a year, and in the 14 years that I've been playing music, I've owned and/or played on hundreds of different guitar amplifiers. From $50 "Sears Brand" amps to multi-thousand dollar customized boutiques. Overall this amp is a very good addition to your musical arsenal, and is a very good choice for beginner/novice level guitarists, especially due to it's more than reasonable price.
For live shows or important recordings, I usually employ a more high-end (and much more expensive) rig, but this amp is not below my standards for those applications, and i have used it for both live shows (especially for clean sounds) and recording. Actually, I use it constantly, particularly at home while recording or rehearsing. If you're a heavy user of effects, you won't be dissapointed. If you're using an external effects processor or any external pedals, your satisfaction will also be met. Or, if you prefer straight clean and/or straight overdrive sounds, for whatever type of music you play, you probably won't regret getting this amp.
I own a few other behringer products (EQ Unit, Headphone Amp), and I've been pleasantly surprised with each one. If you're looking for an above average piece of gear, and you want to pay a below average price, turn to behringer. They are a german-based company, and I don't know if you've noticed, but almost anything the germans make seems to be exeptional (cars, diezel amps), and i think the Blue Devil lives up to those german roots.
If you're contemplating buying this amp and/or others like it, but are afraid of being dissapointed, you have 2 options: you can spend three or four times as much on a better amp (preferably tube), or you can get this one. Other combo amps in this price range simply don't compete.

This amp has a huge amount of features up it's sleaves. I have been using the behrinher for some time now and i am very happy with it. The effects that are avaliable to me are rating one. You would think that they are external effects for how good they sound. I have worked out all of the effects and i can model all of the guitarest i play.

Sound Quality : 10
This amp has a fantastic sound. Most of the amps i have tried out can have a fantastic distortion but lack cleaness in the clean channel. The Blue devil has both. The heaven channel has a fantastic sound and because of this all external effects sound unreal. The equilizer is very active with is very very very good. The different sounds that one can produce by alterning these knobes are fantastic. The Jensen speaker that comes standard is very versitile and can withstand all volumes. What i found good was the cleaness of the sound at close to maximum volume and the unreal distortion at that level also.
This amp is a fantastia amp that is exteamly versitile and full.

Reliability : 8
I have only had one problem with the amp. After about 5 mounths i really started to test this bitch and i pupmed it to extreme levels and i dont know what went wrong but the amp stated cutting out and comeing back in volume(the sound not the power). I went to the place were i brought it and in a week they had it fixed and sound great like befor.

i have never dealt with them only the place were i brought the product.

Overall Rating : 10
The Blue Devil is so versitile and has such a great sound that i would'nt think twice if i had to buy another one. I think that these amps put the 50W marshalls to shame because of the price, sound quality and quality.
