Behringer LX1-112 V-Ampire

The features on this amp are great and there is a really wide variety of whatever you want, all popular effects are there such as wah or delay or flanger or chorus

Sound Quality : 8
sounds good but the clean sounds can be a little spoiled and most of the time it sounds very...meshy, but hook it up to a descent speaker and all that goes

Reliability : 2
i've owned 2 of these, the first one just stopped working completley lucky it was under warrantee but i still had to wait 2 months until i got another one in return, and guess what, this one loses its memory every time its turned off and it has to be reset so if i want to gig or something ill have to set up all the presets that i want for that certain show right before i have to start and its really frustratiung

Customer Support : 5
they get back to you in a day, but take 2 months to send you back whatever you sent to them to get fixed or exchange for something else

Overall Rating : 6
its a really good amp but having to reset the settings everytime i turn it on is a real pain so as far as ive heard noone else has had this problem but yeah, just to be on the safe side if your interested in gigging don't get this but just for jams at home and recoding etc its good just having to reset all the time is a bugger, but the presets that it already has is very good, but there is no good clean channels that sound completley clear

i don't think this amp was made for the hard core pro that just gigs, even though its just loud enough for a not so loud drummer. instead it was made for guy that can take it to a garage jam or open mic at any bar or play solo with backing traks at gatherings,or this amp can be used as a small recording studio,i plug in a tape deck,a portable cd player, and not only can i play to backing traks but i could record them too.i plug in stereo speakers and this amp dose it all.try making a tape of yourself playing to backing traks with one amp! and to top it off i only paid 200.00 bucks for it brand new at gc,

Sound Quality : 8
it seems to do everything very well in the sound dept and better than most other modeling amps. it blows away anything in its price range

tighten the screws and add a few to the speaker and its cool. three years no problems

Early model. 50W (x2 if you use an external cab as well). Jensen speaker (I have upgraded to a Celestion Greenback)
Covered many times already. Very versatile amp for those on a budget. etc.

Sound Quality : 7
This amp can do pretty much anything, but not hugely well. I use it with a variety of guitars (the best of which is a Maton MS2000DLX), running through a Boss V-Wah.
You can get ALOT of different sounds out of this amp, but if anything, there are too many options to adjust. 5 different "base" setups (studio 1-3, live 1,2) that each have their own different timbre (sound). I have found it difficult to get any clean sparkle out of this amp, and the distorted channels are a bit thin. I originaly thought that this may have been a speaker issue, because the "custom design" Jensen speaker is a bit crap. So I bought a Celestion Greenback (which is only 25w, but I don't gig with this amp), which made a HUGE difference, but it still sucks. Distorted channels are very digital sounding, and clip very easily, resulting in mud. The only way to fix this is to turn the input gain down, meaning it doesn't sound any good at all. The amp also gets a nasty hum on the gain channels, fixed only by turning the noise gate right up, which, in turn, kills your sustain. I don't get the hum on my 15w Peavey Rage, or on my Boogie Recto-verb.

This amp does not cut through a band AT ALL. hard to gig with. Great for mucking about tho.

Effects, however, are quite good. Phaser, delay, chorus, auto wah, cominations of the above + others. Reverb can be awesome if you can work out how to make it work for you. there are something like 15 different reverb "modes", from a toilet to a padded room to a cathedral.

Reliability : 10
This is my backup/practice amp (the Boogie doesn't have a headphone jack, and I live in an apartment), so it doesn't get a huge amount of use or attention. I've had it for around 3.5 years (in the first two it was my main amp) and havn't even had to change the backup battery. Never had any issues.

Customer Support : 7
Never had to talk to them. Good website. Crap manual.

Overall Rating : 9
I've played for 10 years. I bought this amp as my first "gigable" amp, and it survived. Love the versatility, but the sounds are a bit ****.If it was stolen, I'd be a little pissed off, but I wouldn't get another. I wish it had more grunt, so it didn't clip so easily.
It gets a 9 because it was SO CHEAP!

Digital Modeling Amp - Essentially a V-Amp2 with a power amp and a 12" Speaker.

Mine is a couple of years old and came with a Jensen speaker, I believe the latest models have a Bugera.

I use this as a studio / recording amp and live with an extension cab.

Feature list is robust - On board tuner, headphone jack, MIDI in/out/thru, 32 amp models, multiple efx & reverbs. Selectable speaker sim and multiple routing as well as DI connectivity is pretty darn cool.

25 banks of 5 locations for patches (125 total).

Cost to Performance ratio on this amp is Tremendous! BUT..."Plug and Play" it is NOT. You have to spend quite some time tweaking the parameters. The factory pre-sets and default settings do not do justice to what you can get out of this beast.

IMO You MUST read the manual 2x-3x to get the most out of this amp. Not the best written document and they breeze past really esssential things (Drive function, noise gate, 2nd effect parameters etc, etc, etc)

Many of the complaints I read here in this forum seem to simply come from not reading the manual and then spending the time to get to know this beast!

Free software from Behringer lets you really dig deep into the configuartions too.

My Big Complaint? I sure wish the included footswitch had more functionality - you can access the tuner and toggle between the 5 pre-sets of the bank you're in....and that's it.

It would be nice to be able to access the "Tap" function and toggle up and down the 25 banks.

Not crazy about the abundence of plastic parts.

Still - must give this a 9 due to the OUTRAGEOUS value this amp represents.

Sound Quality : 9
The sounds / variety of tones out this amp are amazing!

I play primarily strats and teles.

I play rock, blues, fusion

MANY useable models here - I especially like the Fender Black Twin and JCM 800 models for clean sounds and the Boogie IIc & Soldano model for overdriven sounds

Some real tonal beauties are here - especilly good is the "clean to just starting to break up sounds" You can tweak the presence just right to add some tube like shimmer...

Tone controls are parametric (they boost AND cut) so bear this in mind if you are messing around with say a Fender Tweed model that originally had NO tone control to begin with!

Again - RTFM!!!

Little Tips...

You can adjust the noise gate (Q - Why do my notes die out A - The noise gate is kicking on, crank it down!)

Q - Can it be louder?

A - You can adjust the pick-up input sensitivity - Strat sounds too quiet or Humbuckers too wooley - adjust it!

Gain Structure - You can select a much higher volume / gain structure for playing live.

Compressor adds a tone of gain too

I am giving it a 9 in this category with the understanding that we are looking at cost to performance.

Does this $ 250 amp sound like each boutique amp it models? Of course not - But it sure puts you close to the various tonal neighborhoods and records pretty convincingly.

Reliability : 9
So far, so good...2 years - no problems.

Build is a little suspect - lots of plastic parts, probably notthe amp you'd take on a world tour...But again - cost to value is amazing.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with Behringer

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 20+ years.

I am an amp collector and own a variety of amps including a couple of Fenders, a Carvin Nomad, a couple of Peaveys, a Seymour Duncan "convertible" and a Ampeg Reverb Rocket.

I orignally bought this since I was really digging on my V-AMP 2 as a headphone amp / recording tool and wanted to try some of the sounds live.

Light Weight and self contained were additional considerations.

I would absolutely buy this amp again!

I play the classic rock music of from 60's to the 90's, and I'm pleased.
I think the amp modells and the cabinet simulations are amazing, but the effects too! But I only use the auto-wah, and delay. The other effects are not important for me.
The power is enough I think. We rehearse not so loud with my band.
2 weeks ago was our first concert, and many people said, that it had a perfect tube sound! I've used the popular "Brit Hi-Gain" (Marshall JCM 800 simulation)with my Squier Standard FAT Stratocaster, and it was awesome!

Sound Quality : 8
My favourite amp modells are : Brit Hi-gain,American Blues,Californian Drive,Californian Clean and Black Twin. Some of the clean channels are distorted on at high gain but it's natural I think, just like in tube amps.
The distorted sounds are amazing, this is the best thing in this V-AMP I think. I can't hear any digital color! Perfect! I use humbucker and single coils too, but the clean sounds should be better, they're not so powerful.

Reliability : 10

I started play guitar 4 years ago. I had a little 30W dean markley amlifier before this. If stolen...maybe yes,if I don't have enough money to buy a tube amp. I love it for the perfect simulations, but I don't like that the clean sounds are not so brilliant. Little bit..digital.Maybe the sample rate is low (31.250 KhZ).

I've tried some of the Line6 spider series but they're horrible I think..too many treble..and the distortion's are bad jokes.

An expression pedal..yes I need it to change the modulation, and to use the wah effect manual. But I will buy a CryBaby next week.

I think this is the best amplifier in this price catogory. It's VERY VERY cheap...for it's quality!

This is the swiss-army knife of amps. Too many features for most players...but that can be a good thing.

Sound Quality : 9
I've owned two LX112's and one LX210 for around a year now. First things first, tighten ALL screws on this guy! If you don't, chances are it will sound like it's gonna explode when you crank her up. The build quality is decent for the price....meaning that out of 3 of these one has a big dent on the bottom appearing as if it was dropped. Two had pretty big tears in the covering material, both in places that are hard to notice...on the bottom of the amp. All amps were functional though.

Bottom line, if you want a tube sound...then buy a tube amp. DUH! If you want the sound of a JCM800, then buy a JCM800. But the sounds out of these beasts are very usable. You MUST spend the time to learn how to use it though.

There is a delay when switching between amp-types. Answer...simple, use the same amp when you need instant switching. Just set them up with different gain settings and you'll be good to go.

The other major problem as noted elsewhere....these are not rated at RMS. Behringer lists them as 120 watts stereo/ 70 watts mono. But don't think that you will be as loud as a 100 watt RMS amplifier...because it won't be. It's loud enough for me though, especially running in stereo through an 4x12 cabinet. Mic the amp, or go direct if you need the monster volumes.

Reliability : 10
I would NOT use it without a back up. That's just common sense with ANY amp.

This is plastic fantastic..
Skip the hi gain pre amps, and the cab simulators.. run it in L1 mode, put a Huges&Kettner Warp Factor in front of it, using the California Clean mode.. and discover real Rammstein-Recto sound.
The effects are OK. This is an amp that covers a lot. WORK WITH IT, and you'll be surprised. I use this mainly in a studio, it's fabulos when mic'ed up. Loud enough for small gigs, sounds awesome through a PA.

Sound Quality : 10
Recto or clean, the V-Ampire delivers. Must be tweaked, none of the pre sets are useable out of the box IMHO. Use your ear, and tweak some more. I have several Ibanez guitars, RG ones equipped with stock V7 pick ups, and down. But my fav. is a real cheapo (Fat Strat) Tradition, which beats most of the Strats I have tried in my life. I've been playing on/off since 1978.

Reliability : 8
It is not build for road use. But, I'd say, let it be a combo! The Jensen 12 " is fab. Sounds much like the Jensen speakers of old Gibson combos, even though they are hard to compare. Gibson combos (the old good ones, were strictly tube driven) At first (when connecting it to a 4*12 cab) it sounds nice, but then, switching back and forth, I came to the conclusion, (depending of the job also) that this plastic thing, sounds best (great, infact) as the combo it is.
Once again, it is amazing in the studio, tapped w. microphone.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed it. I have one of the first ones that came to this country.

I have a Peavey 30, a Crate 5 Wattr. Had, Marshalls, MSB F-50. etc.

I think that this is an extremely brilliant amp, from it's sound quality to its effects.
And ive played on a couple million amps and this has been one of the best that i have played it even compares to some of the many marshalls that i myself have played on.

Sound Quality : 9
The amps clean sound is brilliant you can play loads of different type of stuff from Nirvana to Bryan Adams and to stuff like The who.
But to get this amp's brilliant distortion sounds i set my amp on clean and use my distortion pedal (Boss Hyper Metal) To get an awesome sound but you must fiddle around with the amps eq's before it starts sounding good it took me quite a while to get the full potential of my amp.

I play funk. i dont need a lot of gain, but this amp still does have nice gain options. theres a set of eq, low mid high, gain, volume. in EDIT mode, theres another set of eqs and a gain mode. think of the eqs and gain selection in EDIT as the eq of your guitar so to speak and not the voice of the amp, and the gain as an output compressor. these controls help you to work with your guitars voice to attain your sound, after youve tweaked your amps voice. models, as far as amps go, theres a good selection. i doubt they sound anything like they say they are suposed to (im not experienced there), but the selection is nice. others will say the same, PLAY THIS IN L2 MODE!!! it gives it really nice tube character (again not the same, but id say as close as it gets for the type of amp it is, and for the bargain) read your manual. speaker outs, so you can carry this thing around, or hook up to make a very inexpensive and rewarding stack.

Sound Quality : 10
Effects, i do not like. only ones i put to use are the compressor, delays and, well thats it.reverb types on this thing are great. im pleased with the tone of this amp for the price. first amp, have had it for 2 years, and in the nect few year i will get into the all tube amp. for now im satisfied, as are all the other kids with their stupid line 6 spiders and crates. they love to jam through my setup, that was half the price of theirs.

Digital Modeling Amp, 125 memory banks, 5 channels per bank, 12" jensen speaker, 32 simulated amps, 15 simulated speaker cabs, 16 effects + reverb, channel swapping pedal inlcuded, headphone jack. that pretty well covers it. Can't really complain about the number of features, but the quality is questionable. I'm gonna go with 8 because yeah it does have a lot of bells and whistles. But it's a quantity over quality thing.

Sound Quality : 4
Currently I'm using an Ibanez sz 320, w/ emg 81, 85 active pick ups in the bridge and neck respectively. I hate to bash my own amp but honestly this amp's sound quality is lacking on most of the amp models, it just doesn't sound good enough. On a lighter note the clean channels sound alright, compared to the distorted ones. The Mesa Boogie (rectified head and rectified high gain) settings sound bad on any guitar. I realize it's not suppose to sound amazing in this price range but wow, some settings should be avoided like the plague. I have sort of a love hate relationship with this amp sometimes it sounds good to me, sometimes it's sounds so hurtin' i don't even wanna pick up my guitar. I'm gonna award four points b/c I like some of the clean channels and the effects may not be unreal but if you've got the patience you can create some cool sounds.

Reliability : 9
Amazingly this amp hasn't broken down or had any issues in the year and a half I've owned it. But i know sooner or later an LED will go out or something will stop working. The build quality is well, ok i guess. But by looking at it you can tell it wasn't meant for abuse. Everthing is plastic, that pretty much says it all. I wouldn't gig with this I don't trust it, plus with effects and cab sims...etc volume drops substantially. One other thing, because i'm lazy I put wheels on it, as I was drilling into it i swear to god the wood used to build it was particle board or some other low grade type of plywood. Until I have an issue I'll go with 9, I know construction ain't the highest quality but it hasn't broken yet.

Customer Support : No Opinion
no reason to call them yet, but presumably it's ok

Overall Rating : 7
For 300 bucks and oh so many features I can't complain other than the sound quality, but no one should expect eye watering sound quality from something like this. Some effects are useless, some amp models are useless. But you know what I'm never going to use them all anyhow, I have a metal guitar with emg pickups so i only use about four channels. Knowing what I know now I wouldn't buy this amp again, I would hold out and get a decently priced tube amp, but for a first amp the V-amp is good because it has so many sound altering options, so if you're unsure of what music style you wanna play you can't really go wrong without breaking the bank.

Built in 2003
The most versatile amp I've found and have used many different.
Used for practice & gigs in bars with audiences from 50 to 500 people.

Sound Quality : 10
Used with Gibson L.P. custom Strat with emg's Strat w/ paf.
Playing classic rock from the 1960's to the 1990's.
It is very quiet & the noise gate works quite well.
The amp is capable of a VERY wide range of sounds from crystal clean
to overdrive mayhem all available to tweak with descent quality effects to your. hearts content.

Reliability : 7
It let me down at the last gig. If the internal cmos battery becomes discharged or loose goodbye settings, only garbled nonsense remains.
I will implement an upgrade, but am hesitant to outline it here as the same reviewers who don't like the amp will probably damage theirs due to lack of understanding. It is strange this is not covered in the manual. The amp cabinetry is sufficiently heavy
but the potentiometers are not road quality, (plastic shafts). I built an 1/8" plywood cover to transport & has worked like a charm.

Customer Support : 10
I have called Behringer in Calif. and they were very helpful sending
new chips for free when required, very quickly.

with good results. I read all the manuals, downloaded the free setup software (very nice) gone to user groups, in other words have done the homework. I have not experienced the time lag others have on switching. I can say from experience that it is loud enough for gigs of up to 500 when set up properly, but just barely. I run the master at least 3/4. It volume seems to not increase much at 1/4 to 3/4 and then increases a lot at 3/4 +. The cleaner sounds are weaker than the overdriven ones, but this can be helped with the compressor with its added gain. WE have a hard hitting 220 lb. double bass playing drummer & the other guys hear me better than when using the 4x12/ tsl setup. No doubt this is because of the Vampire's open back design & single 12" spkr being driven 4x as hard as a 4x12. The foot controller needed a new chip installed in it before it worked properly & has now been Ok for almost 2 years. I couldn't be without this thing. It is my sound(s) now. I use too many presets but really enjoy sounding exactly like the originals. The biggest shortcoming is the wah, using the pedal. I have tried everything but it just doesn't sound good. I substituted the autowah where possible which is better. The Vampire is less costly than the competition. It is designed in Germany & made in China. Yes I know, theres something about that, But LISTEN with your ears, not your ego & you wont believe what is available now for a total $425.00+ IT IS THE BEST AMPLIFIER VALUE THAT I HAVE FOUND IN 40 YEARS. It weighs about 1/5 of the last setup (racks etc.) and I really like it. Maybe I should put the jensen 12 alone in a 4x12 cab. & fit the vampire guts into a marshall head Cab........... No I dont think so. This modeling stuff
is what the fuzz & wah were in 1965. (My hiwatt & Marshall amps are
gathering dust) I guess I'll save them for when we play Masison Square Garden........... OK That won't happen either..........

Just try to use, for example, a Behringer MIC200 tube mic preamp (valve setting, low cut engaged, minimum gain, volume to reach "0" in the preamp's meter) plugged in the pre DSP fx loop of the vampire.
This can make an huge difference.Better and live cleans, no clipping (If the MIC200 is well tuned)..Distortions stay great....
It's a shame, the delay (and stupid sound) bettween patches..

Reliability : 5
Well, after some time, the preamp selector switch is DEAD...now, to use some diferent preamp I have to search a patch that has the desired preamp... That's a pain in the arse...the rest is fine

Take all the amps (tube and solid state) you have collected, all your footpedals, and cabinets.

Write software to simulate the amp circuitry, effects pedals, and cabinets.

Build an all digital amp amp with only one analog control (power amp master volume). Build digital inputs (volume, tone, amp select, etc) for all the other controls. Add a Jensen 12" speaker for good tone.

Add headphones output, recording and PA outputs, etc.

Now you have the LX1-112 design. Minimal analog, all digital domain processing to simulate the classic amp tones, effects, and speaker cabs.

Sound Quality : 10
This amp is good for all styles of amplified (electric) guitar, given the fact that it can reproduce the tone of most any well-known amp produced.

Reliability : 9
Treat it like you would your instrument, and it should last a long time. Plastic parts are used for cost reduction, and the 'pots' (look like digital input knobs not real pots) are probably not very easy to find as a spare part ... except maybe through Behringer customer service.

Customer Support : 8
Behringer USA is very friendly and helpful, even with questions.

I have never had a problem needing actual repairs or support, however.

Overall Rating : 9
If stolen or lost, I would buy another.

Unless that happens, I will just be one of the first to buy the next generation digital modeling combo from Behringer. Maybe by then they will have added USB/PC (direct digital) recording support and tube tone 'morphing' controls such as those found in Dr Z. MazJr and Peavey Valveking amps.

This unit was cleary designed by and evaluated (for usability) by guitarists (who also have technically demonstrated they are in the top tier of audio engineering talent).

Check out the Behringer web site for more info, and check here for more ratings and opinions,

http://guitar-mentor.blogspot.com/2005/08/high-yield-gear-for-guitarists-then.html
and
http://www.epinions.com/Behringer_V-Ampire_LX112_Combo/display_~reviews

I'll give this unit a 9 only because I there's always room for improvement. Maybe the USB and 'tone morphing' controls should be open and extensible (downloadable) upgrades to the amp?

If so, then we would have an undisputed 10.

Best in Class features, no need to elaborate as others have covered the vast array of features.

The only missing feature is USB direct digital output for recording (wait for the next model, I guess).

I would rate '10' it USB capability was available today.

Sound Quality : 9
Everything a working guitaris needs (and covered in the other reviews).

One caveot, however. Make sure you audition the amp, not the presets. The factory presets don't do justice to either the clean or gain amp models.

For single coils, make sure your adjust the 'configuration gain stage'. You do this by simultaneously selecting 'D & E' (config mode), then using 'tap' and 'gain' to increase the input gain stage globally. Just make sure the clip led isn't going on too often, or you will have too much gain.

From my experience, this is the #1 reason why folks think the amp has insufficient volume (they are set up with a factory-default low gain, weak pickups, and a large S/N ratio, which makes them think the amp has no volume!).

'9' vs. '10' becaus this usability tip is not noted by the majority of folks who audition the amp ... too bad, because it shoudln't be a reason NOT to buy the amp. The factory default presents probably should use a little compression and kick up the gain to be compatible with many weaker single coil pickups.

Reliability : 10
I have owned mine for over a year, and use it (hard) daily. It stands up to contstant use. Some plastic parts were used to reduce cost, but that shouldn't deter you from using the amp. Just take care of it like you would any recording gear or guitar and you should be ok. Why should we have to build amps like a tank? If you need to buy a gigging case for it.

Customer Support : 10
Good customer support, as I have talked with them for other product info, and Behringer has been very responsive.

I have owned this amp for about a year. I love it but I haven't owned a lot of amps to compare it to.
Great amp modeling, hate the speaker sims. Power is okay, better if you hook up to another cab and run the full 100 watts.

Sound Quality : 9
I use an Epi LP Custom and have no complaints on sound.
I only use about 8 sounds total. Clean, Slight Distortion and really distorted on one channel bank. Clean, Phased out clean, and spacey distortion on another channel.
My advice is... Play and listen to all the presets, pitch the ones you don't like, and tweak the ones you do then save them on one bank for use (write it down).
Play with the amp simulations, they're great. I use my amp only on L2 mode for live playing. I also run mine thru our Alesis PA with powered subs (sounds awesome).

Reliability : 10
I haven't had any problems over this year of fairly heavy use (everyday).

Customer Support : 7
I give this a 7 because I sent en email about the clip light being lit almost all the time when playing hard. They commented that the clip light indicates the INCOMING signal, meaning I should turn my guitar down in order not to lose the dynamics of my Epi LP Pickups.

I got mine on Ebay for an unbelievable $100 bucks off. There is no problem with it and everything was intact, no scratches.

XLR outs for recording
Line outs for additional amps.
Headphone jack
Just about all the features you'll ever use.

Main guitar is a cheap Ibanez AX model, with buckers.
Play metal, classic rock, praise, country.
Wanted an amp that could get alot of different sounds and be portable
for hauling to church and gigs.
Some amp models sound great, others OK, still others are rotten.
Clean sounds are not the best.Fender should not be worried just yet.
Distortion is much better. Boogie amp model is great for rock & metal.
Amp is not noisy at all.

This is a brand new LX112 V-ampire. I played with it in my local guitar shop for about 10 minutes and knew I wanted it. It has the V-amp Pro built in, and it has a 12 inch, 50 watt Jensen speaker. Perfect for a small gig or room practicing, and if you're playing at a larger gig you can hook it up to the PA or to other amps. L2 mode is made for live playing, and it seems much louder.

Plenty of effects. You can go from screaming blues, to soft jazz, to rumbling metal. Also has a great and accurate tuner.

Sound Quality : 9
I have a Dillion DL600GT with P90s in it. I have the settings on the amp as followed:

Gain - 10
Volume - 9
Bass - 4
Mid - 4
Treble - 8 1/2

AMPS - Tube Preamp
EFFECTS - None
REVERB - 3 1/2
MASTER - 2 (approx)
L2 Mode
Channel A

I get a nice SRV tone out of it on those settings. However, I must say the clean sounds are a bit disappointing. It has a Squier 10 watt I picked up for about $15 hooked up to it, and a few Magnavox speakers I found. Sounds great.

Reliability : 10
I've taken it to one gig, and several traveling practices, still looks brand new. I've sat, stood, and had stuff thrown at it and it still seems pretty solid.

well...this amp is still great BUT..I use it live and the switching delay sucks big time!
I have made a new setup and now is working fine..if you have a multi fx pedalboard it might work well with you..
My new guitar helped me a lot...I?ve bought a Jack&Danny YC-7951 (7 string) ..fuckin great guitar..really unbeliveable e very very cheap!
My setup is:

Guitar to Input Boss GT-6
Boss GT-6 send ? Vampire Input
Vampire line out put ? Boss GT-6 Return
Boss GT-6 out ? Behringer mic 200 tube mic preamp (colours the sound in the right way ? Vampire CD input (full throtle lol)
Shure SM-57 in front of speaker

My Vampire has 2 functions now...
It?s a power engine ;)
It?s an external distortion processor (I use Ultimate VAMP)...set a low gain and volume in the vampire patch..and increase the drive and the level in the external distortion of the gt-6

By the way...this way I have a much louder setup..than the stand alone vampire

This is a follow-up review...

We all know the features, and we all know the amp is packed with them.

Sound Quality : 5
I own three Ibanez talman electrics. One with the three lipstick tube pickups, one with Gibson P-90's, and another with the stock Ibanez Humbuckers (which I plan to replace soon).

My musical style, as noted in my previous reviews, is limited to blues, folk/rock, pop, and country/rock. This amp is OK for these. I have owned this amp for about two years and some change and I am not as satisfied with it now as I was when I first bought it. This is probably due to my change in aural taste and a more refined sense of tone.

This is a perfect amp for someone on a budget who just loves to have all kinds of options. BUT after playing a few tube amps (peave classic 30, delta blues and a whole slew of Fenders) I am convinced that the digital world is not for me.

Reliability : 5

This V-AMPIRE amp I purchased was made in 2004, and before buying it I considered a few other modeling amps. I pretty much play Classic Rock, Metal & Blues, and this amp can't be beat for features in comparison to cost. I am a hobbyist and guitar playing is relaxing to me, but I do not compromise my sound with cheap items. Believe you me, this is NOT a cheap amp.

Sound Quality : 9
I use an Agile AL-2500 Les Paul copy with just the stock pickups when I use this amp, and the sound is sweet. I do agree with other users, when they say to really coax the sound out of the Jensen speaker, you need to set this on L2 mode. The amp is a top performer in music ranging from classics like Cream, to today's groups like System Of A Down and even Chicago Blues. It is by no means noisy and I don't hear a rattle like others do. I like the fact that I can change the presets to the tones I play, but it would have been nice if the included foot pedal allowed a guitarist to scroll through all the presets, and not just the memory banks. All in all, the variety of sounds are simply astounding.

Reliability : 10
I don't do gigs, so I am not worried about doing any damage to the amp. But if I was to do a performance, I would not hesitate to use this amp.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had to contact Behringer's customer service, but just from their company reputation, I don't forsee any problems in the future.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitar on and off for about the past 7 years, and I have had the chance to use and even sometimes own so-called "Better" brand name amps, but I can honestly say that the V-Ampire is simply the best sounding amp I have had the pleasure to own and use. Like I said before, I just wish that the foot pedal was more versatile, but for the price and sound quality, this amp is hands above the others. Line 6 could learn a few things from Behringer in amp making!

God forbid, if this amp was ever stolen, I would buy another of this same model faster than Eric Clapton plays Layla!

-32 amp models (going from powerful hiwatt amps to little valve combos)
-15 speaker sims
-Lots of outputs on the back
-good footswitch
-amazing Fx

The guy selling this amp to me in the shop said it basically had 125 channels put into 25 banks (5 channels in each bank) and theres a great metal footswitch for switching channels.

it says its 120 i think that only when you have an extra cabinet (60x60 watts)

Sound Quality : 9
Im using this amp with an Epi Explorer and a cheap guitar made buy behringer ( i bought the behringer starter pack)

both sound really good through this amp. The cheap single coils on the behringer guitar go extremely well with this amp, you can get really trashy distorion if you muck about enough.

The Explorer also sounds great through this amp!

But you need to play about with the amp for a while before you can get a great sound.

Just a note...If you play the Vampire direct to the mixer through the XLR outs (L2 mode) don't let the sound guy had gain in your channel in the mixer..they must control your sound level only with the fader with the gain in the mixer set to zero. If the sound guy puts the gain just at less than middle your distortions will suck through the PA...and that's a shame cause the Vampire can make wonderful distortions. That happened to me...my distortions through the PA and the monitors sounded like shit! Awfull! Beware!

Other than that, Vampire is Great...don't forget the L2 mode!

ive seen a few people give bad reports on this just because they didnt read the manual properly, and i just wanna rectify this for the sake of prospective buyers.

first issue: the amp isnt as loud as its competition. why? because it only runs at 70watts, not 120 (mines the 2x60, the 2x50 i expect runs at 50 or 60) why does it only run at 70watts? well ive only got opinion, not truth, but id say because RUNNING 120 WATTS THROUGH A SINGLE SPEAKER IS STUPID! you would have 2 buy a speaker that costs more than the amp 2 make it sound clear at 120 watts. instead, behringer have been very smart and made an extreamly versatile amp. if you dont need 120 watts, you can just take the small combo and everything you need is contained within it. if you need 2 play loud, the amp can be plugged into external speakers, run them at 120 watts, and even at 2x60 in stereo. thats enough power even to run a quad box, most heads these days are only 100 watts anyway.

second issue: delay time when switching patches. READ THE FRIGGIN MANUAL MORON!!! PUT IT IN L2 MODE!

third issue: complaints about the sound of the amp. some say the power amp cuts the highs, others say it cuts the mids and lows, still others say it reduces quality of the lows. well, as i am not them and im not playing their amp, i cant tell you for sure, but mabey they have a speaker box setting that is DESIGNED to change the sound in that way. as other people have said, the speaker simulation is great for the line outs, for recording or directly inputting into PA, but if you havent noticed this amp has its own speaker, so you dont need speaker simulations do you? turn em off and learn how 2 EQ ur guitar, and mabey then u might get a decent sound. learning how to acutally control the settings on this amp LOGICALLY will also address such problems as breaking up sustain on distortions and loss of clarity. all amps sound crap if you dont know your stuff, why should this be any different.

final issue: effects. sure they arent great, but guess what? this is a modelling amp, not an effects unit. the effects are just there to compliment the amp modeler, and for beginners/cheapos who cant afford proper effects processors. and who can blame em? you can pay over $350 (AU) for a single chorus pedal. this amp alone costs $600 rrp (AU). if you bought it expecting jaw-dropping perfect effects, then you arent too smart. if you want high quality effects then you need the money to pay for em, buy yourself a stompbox or 2 or even a multi effects processor. using a Boss GT-6 or similar is a great idea because you can use the midi on the GT-6 to switch patches on the V-ampire. this way as you switch patches on the GT-6 the V-ampire switches to the corresponding amp patch.

just an additional few comments of my own:
the 125 preset patches is more than anyone could practically use, its awesome. you can save all your EQ and Amp settings and recall em easy. also, unlike other products with digital processing and memory such as Boss ME-50 and Line 6 POD etc, which all use analoge dials, the behringer products use digital dials. what does this mean? it means that when you recall settings, the LEDs on the dials move to their saved position so you can see where they are and change them easily. this is a distinct advantage over analogue dials, which dont move (unless you get motorised ones- the digital way is far cheaper). sure it does have its disadvantages, in that you only have 17 positions, but thats close enough for most people, and if u wanna be THAT particular about your sound, download the free patch program from the behringer website. it takes like 5 minutes to download and install, and you can adjust the levels at 128 intervals (0-127). you can also access a few extra parameter controls that behringer didnt put on the actual amp probably just because they arent needed so why waste the money, this is a cheap amp after all. The software is also great because you have unlimited storage of patches. if 125

The speaker should be replaced though in order to appreciate what the amp/sim can deliver. I suggest a high power speake designed to reproduce sounds loud and clear as the character of the sound is being handled by the processor itself.

Ton's of stuff is hidden in this sucker. There are so many way's to recored, play live, or anything you want to do except the loop in&out. It's stupid actually! The effect's loop is before the preamp, If your one of those guitaris that depend on having a eq pedal after the distortion your shit outa luck! The only difference in using the loop vs. running the pedal in front of the amp is having another cord to use the loop. The speaker suck's so i replaced it with a Jensen c12n.

This is the BEST, and mean the BEST recording amp out there right now. It is very quiet. I have seen a lot of complaint's on things that you can change, it's just hard to find some of these problems becuase the manual sucks! Distortions are great and amp sim.(depending on what out jack you use) kicks ass. The effects are good if you don't need to be anal about the setting's, they are sorta limited.

Live play, Don't even think about it, I have a 40watt S/S that's louder than this thing. Plus the delay when changing patches is worst i have ever seen. You will hear total silence for 1.5 sec. and that may be understated.

How would you rate an amp that's built out of toothpicks and plastic. I haven't tried to run it through my power amp to drive my cab, but if it sounds kick ass then i have find a way around the delay in the patch changes.

Epi LP with JB & '59, Ibanez with Dimarzio SD, Carvin with M22SD. This amp is noisy. I returned the first one and the second sucked a little less, so I kept it. Returns are a pain. I had to buy a Boss NS2 noise gate and good cables to get rid of the noise. Everything else sounds good to me, and my interventions worked. For the noise I rate this category a 1/10. There's no excuse for noisy modeling amps out of the box anymore. When the noise issue was dealt with, I was VERY pleased. Crushing distortion and delicate clean sounds. I would rate at a 9 if not for the noise (TWICE IN A ROW). I will not deal with Behringer again. Their quality is too inconsistent. My brother has two different Behringer amps that work and sound great. I got a dud right off the bat and a barely keepable replacement.

Ok I'm wrong, I earlier gave the V-ampire a mediocre review based on my comparison to a Line 6 POD and have since changed my mind. I think this thing is better then a pod and can hold its own to a flextone 3 just by its unique character of sound. The mistake I made when Assessing this amp was that I wasnt hearing the high energy thrust I heard from the line 6 products I mentioned. Nevertheless the distortions were very good however it lacked the energetic presence I was looking for. Being the dumb guitar player I was at the time I blamed it on this Amp however, since then I have grown as a guitar player and began strumming my strings harder like a real man should rather then lightly like a bitch who gently eats out her lesbo lover. My word of advice to all you intermediate players out there is to learn the finer points of guitar technique and let it all hang out and then you can trully see what your monster can do.

I've been playing for 5 years and this thing makes me want to play. I've been creating new licks and notes that I wasnt inspired to do with other amps and pedals I had. I think the trick with the V-ampire which draws inspiration to play is it's hidden delay on each amp model which makes it sound tube like. I am able to get more richness and coloring out of my leads then with any other thing I used. I should also mention that I'm playing through a cheap ass Kramer focus (which is good sounding guitar for its price but, by know means has the frequency to generate goood high gain) yet and I'm able make it sound like a metal monster, blues screamer, and other ideal sounds from other musical genres.

Brand new 2005 V-Ampire. I play blues and classic rock mostly. Being full-on digital, this amp is plenty versatile. It has pretty much any feature you can imagine: 32 amp models, digital effects, cab sims, etc. I got it for practice, but hooked up to an extra 2x12 Univox cabinet I had laying around and making sure it's in "L2" mode (very important!) makes this thing plenty loud. I could gig with it.

I do wish you could access ALL of the programmable features without hooking it up to MIDI though.

Sound Quality : 8
I have some really nice playing guitars: Gibson LP Custom, Custom Shop Clapton Strat, Peavey Reactor - and wanted an arsenal of amps to go with them. A modeling amp made perfect sense. The V-ampire has the most sims and features for the $$ so I went for that.

IMO, some simulations are very convincing: The Marshall's in particular sound good to me. Others, like the Vox's, don't seem to make much sense. Any real-Vox I've heard has been very bright, but the sim is really muddy. No problem though, just don't use the Vox Sims! It also does a bunch of amps that I've never heard in real-life (Matchless, Dumble) so the sonic possibilities are nearly endless.

One thing the amp does really, really well is the "slightly distorted" bluesy sound. Love it. You just can't get it with a standard SS amp/pedal combination; and at any volume level with the V-Ampire. Brutal distortion is, well, brutal distortion. You can get the distortion so crazy on this amp that it will feedback at barely-able-to-hear it volume.

Tube snobs will remain tube snobs regardless of what the sounds are like, but I'm having a great time with it! I'll give it an 8 for sound. You do need a lot of time on your hands to tweak it though.

Reliability : 5

It seems dependable enough. I'd gig with it. It's still really new though.

Customer Support : 5

Behringer has a fairly nice web site that provides software, patches and manuals.

Overall Rating : 7

I've been playing 30+ years (as a bass player as well) so I own a SS bass amp head and 2x15 cab. I really needed something for guitar. This really fit the bill. I love the flexibility. It's not the easiest thing to program though and takes a TON of tweaking. Eventually, you should be able to get it to do exactly what you want.

The controls DON'T behave like analog controls; for instance, turning the reverb up won't make the overall signal louder, but changes the dry/wet ratio. It's not really a problem, just something you need to get used to.

All-in-all a really good, fun amp. I definitely recommend it for someone thinking about trying the digital amp-sim world. You just can't beat the price!

Just wanted to address a problem that a lot of people encounter with Behringer V-Amps/V-Ampires, etc., namely the delay in switching presets. I don't own a V-Ampire, but own a V-Amp2 and use it live very effectively. The delay you hear when switching presets only occurs when you change AMP MODELS. So, changing from a clean Fender Twin setting to a hi-gain ENGL setting will give you a delay. I find that I can get away with using the same amp setting throughout a song, just using different gain settings when I need a boost. Yeah, I know it may not enable you to go from a super sparkly clean to a devil's sphicter distortion level, but it works for me and hopefully this'll help some of you who already own the equipment and are frustrated.

Cheers

I've already wrote about this...but in the features area..well ..I have to say that the patch changing is a bit slow...That's bad!
Behringer guys..You can do it even better!
The rest!just great!

Well..I'm gigging with it...
XLR outs to the mixer...L2 mode..analog 4x12 activated!
Just great!I love it
It's impossible not to sound good with this amp...if you use reasonable guitars..good cables and...IMPORTANT! do your homework!
I love this amp, my band mates love it and the sound guy loves it...especially the distortions! GREAT
Best amp for the price! any doubt? It's even better than many expensive amps.
Just one more thing!
I have a Boss GT-6(wich I love also)....I use it in front of the input for the great wha's...it's also my midi controller...but it's pre-amp models (COSM technology)(they're good also) sound more digital...and unnatural than the ones on the amp...especially the overdrives!

This is a much meligned, stereo, digital modeling amp, with, thirty or so amp types available, digital effects, and one-hundred and twenty-five channels, to store presets! It has an effects loop, direct out, tuner and headphone jack.

It would be difficult to conceive of a type of music it couldn't have a stab at, whether you would like the result depends on how picky you want to be with an amp you can pick up for $250.00.
It has many features I don't use, but you may, so good.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a nice custom built strat type guitar, kinman pickups. This has become my Swiss-army knife amp. Casuals, jazz gigs, pit bands, caberet, church. It is strangely liberating to show up at a gig with a guitar, a strap, a cable and a guitar, and be able to cover any situation. I get alot of smiles from band members when I use this amp.

But you need to do your homework! These amps can sound absoulutly wretched! Read some of the other reviews on here and you will find out! These reviewers, I am convinced didn't set up the amp correctly. The first time you use this amp, it is not a plug in and play situation.

As others on here have said, you need to turn the speaker simulation off, but you also need to be very careful about the way you set your input levels. My guitar is hardly a high ouput shred monster, but it still overloaded the front end of the amp (this is not a good thing in digital amps), after I set the input level so the warning led never came on, the amp sounded alot better.

And what alot of sounds there are! For my "commercial" playing I have found that I commonly use five sounds, Clean and dry rhythm sound, a clean sound with delay and a touch of chorus for pads and "washes", a rolling stonesish overdriven rhythm sound with a touch of spring reverb, a distorted lead sound and a clean echoey hank-marvin-ish tone for clean melodic stuff.

Previously this meant carrying two amps and a pedalboard the size of Belgium; all very expensive stuff too, I was carting around about $10000 of gear to gigs that were paying less than $200! In addition to being a gutarist therefore, I had become not only a heavyweight lifting champion, but also an expert tap dancer, as I changed pedal and amp settings going from "Walk Don't Run" to "Highway to Hell".
No fun, but I sounded great.

Now, as I said, I show up with this amp. I use the Custom Clean Roland sound for funk, Fender for Country, R'n'B and early rock'n'roll, British Class A for Hank (this is the least convincing of the bunch, I'm working on it) and the Marshall and Rectified sounds for rock (you can get a pretty good Brian May on this amp, but don't use the Vox settings - no treble boost, use the Boogie instead). All of these sounds can be controlled from the volume knob on the guitar quite effectively, distorted sounds clean up (sometimes not as much as you would like) and clean sounds thin out in musical ways.

It has quite alot of insane metal sounds too, I don't care for them much, but you may, frankly I'm not qualified to judge them. The fuzz box one is fun.

I am happy to say I am selling all that old gear (my old Budda wah-wah, which I only bought to play disco, cost as much as this amp). Does the v-ampire sound as good? No. But not by much, and it is a alot friendlier on the back, the wallet and the much less stressfull to use. Also, it enables you to set up banks of less utilized tones. Now, if I play "Walk Don't Run" and then play "Apache" (this has never actually happened, you understand) my surf sound is different to my Hank Marvin (what can I say, I'm anal).

I have never found it to be not loud enough, my theory has always been the lead stuff should be louder than an un-miked drummer, the the rhythm stuff about the same, or a little less, than an unimiked drummer (tnis way the sound guy doesn't need to worry too much about balancing the band, just making the vocalist heard, and cranking the sound to a venue-appropriate volume). However, with a hairy rock'n'roll drummer, the v-ampire would either need to be miked or use an extra speaker, or (shock horror) you could take a D.I. out of the back. I have had surprisingly good results with this, try it you may like it! Bass players have done it for years!

Ok, now the gripes, there has to be some. The effects tend toward the "tasteful", sometimes you want a really obnoxious "Keep Yourself Alive" type flange for example, this amp wont

Reliability : 8
It does have a spot of that "built by machine/and or non-unionised third-world-workshop" feel to it (This is entirely prejudicial by the way, I don't know how they are made). So I flight cased it, never let me down yet, but at this price I think I'll buy a backup (with the money I'll get for my old chorus pedal perhaps).

So far, So Good.

Never needed it.

Overall Rating : 10
Fantastic value indeed. I still keep some of my older gear, for when I'm being an "artist", I have an old sixties tube amp, a tube screamer, the old copicat. It will never replace these items, but perhaps the next model will....

I'd replace it in a heartbeat.

I love the convenience, the price, the tone is not as good as my old setup, but I think I'm the only one that notices. I wish it was cooler, and didn't have such a lame name....

I compared this to the Line-6 stuff, and that sounds great too, some of the sounds are better, some worse, but pound for pound, this amp is more versitile, and has more presets (too may in fact!)

I wish it had a copicat preset, sometimes I wish the effects could be less pleasant.

The best analogy of the sound is this: When the V-Ampire is pointing at your head it sounds like a real valve or solidstate amp does when it is pointing at your feet. This is on L2 mode, even with global treble tweaked up.

This is nothing to do with modelling technology, the issue is the poweramp - yes, the poweramp is lacking in the volume the specs suggest, but I am talking frequency response. The poweramp is damping all the high freqencies. Imagine you take your hi-fi and roll off all the treble, this is what comes out of the poweramp to the speakers. People say guitars are a mid range instrument but stealing all the treble above 5/6Khz is ridiculous! Guitars have lots of freqencies above this. This poweramp rolloff is the same for Line6's new amps (FlextoneIII, SpiderII), all Vox Valvetronix amps and all the Behringer amps (I have owned GM110 with analog modelling and tried the others).

I proved it is the poweramp by taking a lead from the preamp output to a Marshall MG amplifier. The signal was full range and very good. The amp modelling is impressive.
I hit the bypass on the amp and tried some pedals though the amp - again, all the treble was gone compared to running the same pedals though a solidstate or valve amp.

Amp modelling has got to a good standard but manufacturers are designing poweramps with a high cut built into them. Real amps, be it solidstate or valve, have a full freqency response so sound 3 dimensional, sparkly, hifi and real! The guitar speaker naturally does cut a lot of the high end but the cut certainly does not come from the poweramp section.

The modelling amps I have found that have a full range poweramp are Roland Cube and VGA Series, Line6 FlextoneII and AX2, Johnson Millenium series amps. Maybe the high cut on more recent amps is a design feature to hide digital artifacts?? I dont know why they would design this way but they all seem to be doing it.

My advice, if you want a modelling system you just need to buy a decent solidstate amp (such as Marshall MG Series or Peavey Transtube) and put your modeller of choice into the FX loop.

The UltraG speaker simulation is good. I see the separate UltraG box being essential for anyone wanting to record guitar DI, bypass the digital cabinet models on your Line6/V-Amp2 kit and use the UltraG instead, big improvement.

I don't own this, but I would just like to make one point....I was going to buy this, but am reconsidering due to the complaints about lack of volume, it not being a true 100 watts, ect. I wish more people on these boards would focus on the volume/power aspect of combo amps. Besides tone, combos seem to fall between two categories: loud enough to gig with, or NOT loud enough to gig with. Most people don't buy amps just to record with, not everybody has a home studio. I have read glowing reviews of amps that I have owned that YOU CANNOT gig with at all, because they are too quiet. I'm assuming alot of people who write reviews either base it on how well it works in a recording environment or how cool it is to fuck around with in their bedrooms. Every review on here should state flat out IS THIS LOUD ENOUGH TO GIG WITH OR NOT? Not every live situation you will encounter is gonna have a mic/PA for your guitar. If your not loud enough, your fucked. I realize not everybody who owns or plays these amps is in a functioning band, but more emphasis on LOUDNESS would be appreciated. The Fender Deluxe Reverb 65' gets top notch reveiws, yet fails to mention that IT AIN'T really loud enough to play in a real band with. I mean, hey, great classic amp, but I've gigged out with one for years, and it's pretty much worthless for volume without a PA. Shit like this is important to me, or any other buyer. At least I would assume. So buyers beware.

The features are great once you find them! If you have used fx processors before you won't have any trouble with the manual, but if you have never played with one good luck! I wish some one would make something digital with analog knobs. I don't like pushing and holding buttons while you turn or push another button to get to do something. I also dont like it that you can change something and there is nothing that lets you know if you changed what you wanted to change. Its loaded with stuff, just finding it is a pain.

Sound Quality : 5
It sounds great. I mainly play Old school metal with some Death metal thrown in. All the distortion are nice, they all aren't brutal but the fuzz is the only thing i don't like on it. It defenatly has some hi gain distortion in it. I saw a review saying it lacks a middle ground distortion. I found a "skynard type of tone to sound pretty good to me. One complaint is the noise gate. I don't like it all that well because it acts funny compared to the boss nf1 i normally use. The effects are ok untill you switch presets and then you will see that the amp can't make up its mind for a sec. on what it's supposed to do. HERE IS THE BIG COMPLAINT!!! When you switch presets from clean to distortion or anything you will experiance the biggest delay i have ever heard! Changing songs on your cd player is faster than this thing! I rate the amp modeling a 10, the gate and reverb about a 5 and the effects around 6. But because the delay between presets is so bad that i will have to give it a low rating. The fist time i switched presets with the footswitch my singer looked at me and said " what the hell was that"!

Reliability : 5
The lose wiggely plastic knobs do not give me comfort on it reliability. If you wanted to gig with it i would get a case but you really can't gig with it because of the delay in switching presets.

Its a long ways away from u.s. to germany so i don't expect it to be great.

If you need a amp to recorded with this is the best thing for you to buy. If your looking to use this amp live you need to look else where. It sounds great and has a lot of features that help you define your sound that most expensive modles can't offer. It's just that damn preset delay that really get's me!

Brand new - this year 2004.

Versatile - extremely, I play many styles from heavy metal to jazz and blues, it does them all. Single channel input, but then it's up to you what you do with the sound. There is an effects loop out/in, but I haven't tried that yet ... also preamp bypass etc.

Headphone jack, yes - it can get pretty loud for home practice so that's a great feature.

So far only used at home, but it has loads of power which I hope to try out soon with a band ...

Would be nice if it had SP/DIF out, as it's basically an amp/speaker modeller with a 100W cab tucked underneath. However, it does analogue stereo out to the board, so can't complain too much.

Solid state amp with excellent modelling features - I can do Satch shred and authentic 60's AC30 stuff, plus most things in between - 'nuff said!

Sound Quality : 10
So far only played with my Squier Silver Series Strat (3 single coils) and my Gordon-Smith GS2-60 (2 humbuckers). Sounds great with both. Also have an Ibanez Jem, so I can't wait to hear what that sounds like :-)

Suits my style(s) perfectly - I guess my favourite sounds (so far, and I've yet to discover them all) are the cleaner Hendrix stuff (Little Wing etc) and most of Steve Vai's sounds - it handles most of these easily. I also like to play clean jazz, for which there are plenty of opportunities.

What sounds can it make - well it simulates 32 different styles of amp, plus different types of speakers/cabs/stacks. Gotta be something in there for you!

And if you can find the Mesa Boogie with mega overdrive, the sustain is unreal.

I guess the clean channel is a little distorted at high volume, but it's nice.

If you want distortion, just play with the controls - it's there.

Reliability : 5
Like I said, it's brand new, but it looks pretty well put together, so I guess I would take it on a gig without a backup.

But I'll rate it 5 coz I don't know how reliable it's going to be.

Customer Support : 5
Assume it has 12 months warranty - made in Germany if that means anything these days. Behringer's web site is pretty good. Again rate 5 as I have no experience.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing on and off for over 30 years. I also own an Ibanez Jem, a Squier Silver Series Strat, a Gordon-Smith GS2-60, a Westfield electro-acoustic, a Kiso-Suzuki acoustic and a Yamaha bass, plus some keyboards and so on.

From my limited experience with this amp, I would definitely want another if it were lost or stolen. I love the AC-30 sound - that was my first decent amp, and I wish I had never sold it. But I also love the more modern sounds this amp makes. From Sabbath to total shred, it's in there somewhere ...

I looked at other amps - particularly the Line 6 Spiders, which were good and powerful, but the "insane" distortion is a joke and there is nowhere near the range of sounds of the Behringer.

Of course I would have liked a Fender Bassman or a Mesa Boogie or maybe a Carvin - actually all three and maybe more - but why spend that money when this baby can do it all?

Just try it ...

This amp has everything you would imagine for the price...
It's made mostly for rock...but suits well all the styles...for sure
If you've read the other reviews you know the features..
I only wish it was a 2x12" but thats history...it's great anyway!

My main guitar is a Fenix ML-40 with:
S.D. Jeff Beck Trembucker - Bridge
S.D. '59 - Neck

I play covers...this means...rock, pop, metal , latin...with this baby I can go from Anastacia to Velvet Revolver with the flick of a button...
Not noisy at all

This amp makes great clean sounds, great overdrive sounds, great metal sounds...everything

I don't understand you dumbs that gave such low reviews on this amp..I think you shouldn't play guitar...maybe many of you don't realy play guitar...just want to ruin Behringer's image...isn't it??
This amp is cheap and sounds very good...just not to mencion the versatility..
of course...if you have a very cheap guitar...and don't know how to tweak your tone...this amp will suck...
Don't forget...use the L2 setting...it'sthe only way to make the speaker on the V-ampire sound really good!
L2 makes the amp come alive..it turns off the damm digital speaker simulations...you don't need them to play live!
I would give 9 in this category but I will give 10 because of the idiots that give such bad ratings..I don't understand you people! don't you have ears..or maybe..brain?? maybe the freacking TUBES on your brain are blown...duhhh
Just one more thing...I use my boss GT-6 on the PRE-DSP loop of the v-ampire...I use some Fx from the GT-6 (that I use to control the V-ampire live) like wahs...comp...chorus. I don't use the delays or the reverb from the gt-6...they become to sensitive...but the ones on the V-ampire are good...

Reliability : 8
I don't have it long enough to tell about reliability ( but thats enough to havesome great tones coming out of it)
I will tell you someday!
The amp is beautiful and well finished..not a cheap piece of junk like some dumbs said!
I will give an 8 by now! for the look of it...

Customer Support : 9
I've never deal directly with Behringer...but..great site!
And I'm a big fan of Behringer products...they give us..musicians..the chance of having some very cheap almost-professional gear that holds its own against high-priced gear and it's in many situations even more reliable...
I deal with Musifex (Loures, Portugal) and they are great..

Overall Rating : 10
I play semi-professionaly for almost 5 years...
If it were stolen or lost I would buy another...i'd like to have the Behringer GMX-212 V-tone...because of the Tech 21 Trademark kind of technology..but it is not as versatile as the V-ampire! I think analog modeling is still ahead of the digital modeling..but the digital modeling on the V-ampire is great...the digital modeling on my GT-6 (COSM) is worst and a little unnatural...
Don't get me wrong..the GT-6 is a great machine..but with the V-ampire you can shape great tones almost directly out of the box..if you have some ears and brain!
This is professional sounding with a practice amp price...unbeliveable
The only digital modeling amp that may hold it's own (I doubt it) against the V-ampire is the Line 6 Flextone 3 BUT the price is higher...and the reliability is weack...tipical on the Flextone's...
I'm loving this amp...there are other good amps...but the quality/price is very high..almost unbeliveable!
I hope that you have understand my english...i'm portuguese and i don't practise my english usually ;)
Buy this amp but make shure that you have..at least a good guitar..and don't forget: L2 setting is crucial!

Having owned the V-Ampire for more than a year now, I have the impression that some comments made about its sound are mostly a result of people using the wrong settings:

- If it sounds boxed up or does not have any crispness/edge to it, that is most likely the cab simulation being switched on, which is fine for direct recording but does not make sense when there is an actual guitar speaker. Pressing D+E to get into the configuration menu, using the up/down buttons to select configuration L2 and finally pressing exit will make the amp sound like it is supposed to. Perhaps Behringer should put a large removable sticker onto the amps, pointing out the importance of using the right configuration mode because this seems to be the most common problem with this amp, and when I played one in a shop recently, it was set to the wrong configuration as well.

- If the distorted sounds break up in their sustain, it is most likely that the noisegate is set too high and cuts off the notes early. Using a lower noisegate setting will cure this problem.

- Of course there are ways to make the distortion undefined: If you select one of the high-gain models (e.g. the Savage Beast), turn the gain all the way up, have the boost function active and select a compressor for your effect, the sound will definitely lack definition. Judicious use of settings on the other hand can produce sounds that are very sensitive to ones's playing. Additionally, if a guitar with a particularly high output is used, it may be a good idea to reduce global input gain.

Like any other amp, this one can sound bad when set up wrongly, and because it has more options than a two-channel no frills amp, there is also more room for error. On the other hand, setting it up properly is not rocket science either and will result some really nice sounds.

I am not giving a mark in this category or any of the others because I rated this amp in an earlier review.

Just a comment on the corner guards: The ones on my V-Ampire are certainly not aluminium, more likely steel.

I have used my V-Ampire for about a year now, for rehearsing as well as for gigging, and I am still very happy with its sound, versatility and transportability.

Btw, I have been playing for 17 years or so, and although that in itself does not mean much, I am definitely not a beginner who has not played through many other amps and therefore lacks a frame of reference.

IT's a 50 watt solid state modeling amp. Consists of dial in effects and amp modeling selections and An LCD program channel changer.

Sound Quality : 6
I don't know what some of these reviewers thought they were listening to for giving this amp such high marks but, what I heard was distortion that breaks apart during its sustain and a very boxed up sound. If I were comparing this to a practice amp, this amp would win out hands down. However, I was comparing it to such products as the POD 2.0 or and some fender stage amps and the V-ampire was simply not as good. It's distortion wasn't as powerfull or as clear and the reason for that is because it has low mid and bass response. Perhaps raising those eq's to 8 or 9 would get the amp to sound better but, then your left with little flexibility to get a higher frequency sound. This is a cheap version of Line 6 plain and simple.

Reliability : No Opinion
Every thing about this amp reeks CHEAP, to its aluminum corner guards to its loosely fit dials which have gaps that make it appear that the red light dials project in the wrong spots.

I dont like this amp, If i were a beginner, I would be fooled into thinking the V-ampire is the best thing since sliced bread since a bad guitar player can hide behind the undefined distortion the V-ampire produces.
It does provide useable sounds but, it pales in comparison to line 6. The line 6 products produce the sharpe edgy sounds that are needed in order to bring out the finer details with guitar playing. some thing this behringer amp lacks.

Made in 2004 I guess. The amp is versatile for shredder. Only one channel? It's loaded with features as described below. The cavbinet is way to big, need to be about half the size.

Sound Quality : 3
I use a Les Paul Deluxe and an American Ash Strat. Most of the map models sound the same with the group. about 5 or 6 disticnt tones. The effects work well enuf, but I have to put my face right up next to it because I am an old tube geezer. I think they are trying to out-do Line 6 here with all the effects and amp models. The clean sounds are good, but rather tinny. No botton end, and almost no volume in clean channel? My Fender 12 watt tube amp is 5 times louder than this 50/100 amp.

Reliability : 5
Seems like cheesy particle board could fall aprt at any time.

Seems like good company, but they are in Germany, right?

Been playing a long time. As a tube geezer, I own moslty vintage stuff, so I Know what I plug into has to bring out the best. This amo has way too many gizmos and gadgets and I'm too lazy to stay up all night figuring it out. It's too big, too heavy, and what's the deal with needing another amp to get the 100 wats? That sucks. It's a cheap amp. I compared it to a line 6 Spider II and liked the simplicty of the Line 6, althought it also is a cheesy amp and sounded thin and tinny with no real bottom end. I also tried the Fender Princeton 650 DSP Series III and liked it's tone the best, although it cost $150 more than the Behringer. The price is the best think about this amp. Too flashy, too many gimmicks, not enough low-end tone, not enough power. As a fompus tube geezer once said, "Give me about 12 watts, decent gain, decent break-up, smooth creamy tube-saturated distortion, and spring reverb, and I'll give you a tone you will never get tired of" - me.

One of the reviews here correctly noted that the Behringer manual is not concise, and a bit of a pain to read. I created a quick 2 page reference that can be printed to one piece of paper that outlines all of the non-obvious controls. It is at the Yahoo V-Amp2 group in the files section.

Just bought my amp a few days ago (September 2004). This amp has all of the effects, amp modelling and cabinet simulation features of the v-amp 2 as well as a speaker, cabinet and 100 watt amp (100 mono or 2x50 stereo). I really am impresed with the amount of versatility it gives you to play such a wide variety of sounds. Some specs say 100w and some say 120w - not sure which is correct for my amp, but it does say 100 watts on the back.

I really like the way the presets work. Being able to save almost every setting on the amp (eq, volume, effects chosen, etc.) into one of the 125 presets is great. This feature alone makes the amp great for those who want to fine tune their perfect custom sound, and then save it not having to remember each setting. It is really easy to use.

You can adjust parameters directly on the amp, but you can use (and I really recommend that you do) the midi interface to view, change and save even more parameters for the amp and the 125 presets.

Sound Quality : 9
I use an early 90s Ibanez strat with a humbucker and two single pickups. The amp suits my and almost any music style - the modelling, effects and cab simulation really makes this a bunch of amps and sounds in one.

I do agree with others that the amp should have more volume. I've played a few other 100 watt amps and this one does seem quieter. Part of me thinks that it is the nature of the v-amp - you aren't getting an overdriven signal, you are getting a simulation of an overdriven signal at line levels - correct me if I'm wrong here, but that is my guess.

The amp is noisy on some settings, but programming the noise gate alleviates that.

I can't stress enough how important it is to use the computer software (from their website) to create your own personalized sounds. For my taste, a lot of the 125 default preset sounds are too processed and sound cheesy - but don't let this discourage you from buying this amp. Some of the default presets are very good. But I have been able to get my own sounds that I really like by adjusting things on the computer. I went throught the built-in presets, picked the 5 that I like best and thought sounded like me. I then fine tuned them on the computer, and voila... I can move between those 5 sounds with the footswitch. To change to another bank of five sounds, you use buttons on the amp. I like this better than changing between two channels and having to adjust the knobs each time you want to change sounds (like the GMX212 that I also was considering).

Maybe the presets and footswitch is not a big deal for a lot of people here, but for me it is. I am someone who has always played unamplified acoustic, and shyed away from the electric because I didn't like the sounds i could get out of my little 15 watt crate amp. Recently I have hooked up with a band that plays classic, and 70s to 90s rock, which is why I needed to get a new amp. The sounds and flexibility of this amp makes me want to learn and play more on the electric.

If you are only going to spend $500 canadian, this is the amp to buy. I tried the Line 6, and while it did seem louder (it was a 2x12), I did not like the sound of the Line 6 as much as the Behringer, especially some of the clean amps and the effects.

If it wasn't for the volume issue I would give this a 10.

Reliability : No Opinion
Haven't had it long enough to say here. The fact that the knobs are plastic and don't seem as solid as some other amps doesn't give me the greatest feeling, but at the price, you can't go wrong.

Customer Support : 9
Haven't dealt with them. However I'll give them a 9 because I love their website. It has a lot of relevant, helpful info that is well organized and easy to navigate, and the manufacturer's suggested retail price is their too which puts pressure on stores not to overcharge which I find a lot of the music stores here in Winnipeg, Canada do due to the smaller market and lack of competition.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've been playing for about 10 years. I own a newer Washburn cutaway acoustic (2002), a Crate GX-15, an older fender acoustic now always tuned to open E with high action for playing slide, an old beat up Jaguar acoustic with burn marks on it from the campfire, and my name carved into it.

If it was lost or stolen, I would definitely buy it again - or maybe the head/cabinet version to hopefully get more volume out of it (I may end up buying a cabinet, soon I will try a friends to see if this thing can move some air). For the money it's great. If I had unlimited money, I would instead buy about 10 other amps, 5 or so effects, and a couple of speaker cabinets to give me better sound than the Behringer.

Hammerhart!

2004, too many features to list, forp the price its absolutely ridiculous. If i could give it an 11 in tthis category I would! I compared this to the Line 6 spider 2 series combos and they are night and dsay aprt as far as features go, the biggest one being thaty the Spider 1x12 has no extension speaker outlet which rteally blows if you want to gig with your small combo, the Vampire does!

Sound Quality : 8
OK, first off, I primarly uses a Peavey 5150 head with a Marshall 1960 4x12 cab, so Im used to a crunchy, high gain tube tone. I have been able to dial in a VERY usable, close sound with the Vampire by using the "brit hi gain" model( JCM 800) with the drive function on. ADD some reverb and a small dab of chorus and im in Van Halen heaven. I play in a VH tribute band so the real test was to take it to a gig, which I did last night. It sounded great, was plenty loud enough, in fact I have no idea what epeople are bithcing about as far as the volume for this unit is concerned. I had it turne dup just past halfway and with the PA it was fine. This "Test" made me realize more than ever that tone is 95% in your hands. I sounded the same playing through this as i did with my 5150, so I am led to beleive that a lot of people out ther who are so against digital/modeling amps simply cant really play....sorry guys, truth hurts. With this replace my 5150? NO, but I will be confident taking it to gigs where I dont want to hurt my back lugging around a half stack. I have yet to try this baby direct, but heard it sounds AMAzing going thru the board....we shall see..

Have to give a 10 for the overall because I have spent so much money on so many amps over teh years and this one seems to have the potentioal of being able to do what 10 of them combined can and then some.....for $300 bucks??!!! Who cares if it dies aftewr a year, just buy another one and you are still ahead of the game compared to spending $1000 plu like you would for a lot of amps. and by the way, Line 6 has NOTHING on this amp. Its way cheaper, has way more features and sounds much better and more realistic. What else can I say?

I believe the unit I purchased was made in 1993. It is very versatile.
I play in a classic rock band and the ability to cover clean to
heavy distortion is there. I have used this amp for the last year on gigs at clubs. If I could influence the design team at Behringer, I would ask for 2x the internal power and the ability to assemble the effects individually.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
I use this amp with a us stratocaster with emg active pickups. In general this setup is very quiet even with the noise gate set at 25%
or less. This amp can create about any sound ever made with the exception of pitch-shifting. The clean patches are a bit weaker than
the distortion patches but I believe this can be evened out in the overall setup.

Reliability : No Opinion
Last winter I left the amp in the equipment truck and 2x all the presets were lost (just a jumbled digital mess remained.) After replacing the interior backup battery and never letting the unit get cold again, the problem has never repeated itself. It has remained
reliable for gigs the last 9 months. This hard lesson though has inspired me to become adept using the setup software that is available on the behringer website. Saving and or restoring presets is simple using a computer/sound blaster soundcard and a couple of midi cables. I originally ordered the fcb1010 controller that did not work until behringer sent the free update chip. Once installed everything worked fine. At one point I thought the sound was a bit weak and the tuner was not working well. After borrowing a new cord, the sound was great and the tuner worked perfectly. I wonder how many people bashing this amp really have other problems or have not
invested the time to really understand it. The manual is a bit hard to interpret.

Behringer is very helpful and quick to help.

I have been playing for 30 years and the last 5 in a weekend band. If this were stolen I would have to replace it as it is my signature sound. I could not reproduce this with any of the marshall, hiwatt or other tube amps/effects that I have accumulated over the years. I run the amp on top of a 4x12 marshall cab using the right output to power
the right sise of the stereo image. It sounds very good but needs to run at 3/4 volume to keep up with our hard driving drummer. My solos are never quite powerful enough though. I tried an experiment at practice running the vampire direct line stereo outs through a compressor and 400 watt power amp then to a 4x12 stereo cabinet. NOW THAT IS WHAT I WISH THAT BEHRINGER COULD PROVIDE. Line 6 sells a head like that but I believe it costs 1600+ dollars. Overall, It takes a lot of time to understand how to use this effectively but once mastered I believe anyone would appreciate its capability.
ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE $299.00 PRICE TAG.

Where do I start? I bought this amp a little over a year ago, for the price of ?499.

This amp has everything a guitar player could ever need. There are so many features, it'll take a long time to process them all. There are some effects missing (like a pitch shifter), but as a complete package, it doesn't disappoint. If you also take the price into concideration, there's just nothing like it.

First of all, there's the amp-simulators. There are 32 of them, ranging from clean to over-the-top distortion. There's a good balance, but the emphasis seems to be on the hi-gain models. I'm not familiar with all the "real" amps, but almost all of them sound very musical and useable. A complete list can be found on http://www.v-amp.com.

You also get digital cabinet simulators (15 types), plus an analogue ultra-G 4x12'cab-sim.

Then there are the effects. There's REVERB (9 types), DELAY (3 types), CHORUS, FLANGER, PHASER, COMPRESSOR, TREMOLO, ROTARY, AUTO-WAH and PEDAL-WAH.

Also, there are lots of possible connections. There is a PRE_DSP EFFECTS LOOP (which can be used to record "clean" while listening to the "wet" sound). A stereo HEADPHONE jack, XLR BALANCED STEREO OUTPUTS, JACK-TYPE UNBALANCED STEREO OUTPUTS, 2-button FOOTSWITCH (included!!), MIDI IN-OUT, STEREO AUX IN (with volume knob), 2 SPEAKER OUTPUTS, and of course, one INSTRUMENT INPUT.

It's a 2X50 watts stereo amp, that works as a 50 watts mono amp through the supplied 12' Jensen speaker (8 ohm)

Sound Quality : 9
I don't know how Behringer has done it, but this amp really sounds awsome. I use a couple of Les Paul guitars, an Ibanez RG370 and an Ibanez SA160QM, both with Seymour Duncan Pick-ups. It sounds absolutely amazing, both with clean and distortion settings.

When I bought the amp, it was not my intention to buy it because of its simularities with the real amps. I bought it to create my own sound with it. I guess that's what this amp is best at. You can create some wonderful sounds with it that have never been heard before.

I play mostly progressive rock/metal, but we also have a cover band, where we play all kinds of styles, like blues, pop, rock and even folk. The V-ampire does everything with style.

Is it noisy? Not at all. I use it for recording in the studio, and it is the most quiet amp I have ever used in my 25 years of experience. It's also the best sounding and versatile amp I ever heard.

By using the Ultra-G cab-sim, you can have the best direct-to-mixer sound I've ever experienced! A digital cab-sim always sounds dry and not very "breathy". This is the solution I was looking for. It actually sounds like a 4x12' cab beeing mic'd. Very impressive indeed.

There is always a lively discussion on the net about which one is the best, Behringer or Line6. I guess it's a matter of taste, really, but this analogue speaker simulator takes the Behringer one step closer to making a digital machine sound like a real amp.

Reliability : 5
I've broken off one of the knobs once, but I could fix it myself without too many problems. Those knobs are NOT very sturdy, and a reason for concern! For the rest, this amp is reliable enough to take on the road.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I never had any problems with Behringer products, so I never had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 25 years, and have used many amps before. The Behringer V-ampire is the one I will keep. If it were stolen, I certainly would buy it again, although I would probably buy the newer head + cab model. Hell, I'll buy that anyway, and keep the V-ampire for home-use and back-up.

It's incredible what they have done with this amp, and I am very impressed with the overall value. I've compared it with different other models, like the Line6. Line 6 also make good amps, but they sound more "digital" to me. The difference, to me, lies with the Ultra-G speaker cab on the V-amp. When recording directly without a mike, the digital cabs from Line6 and Behringer (and others) don't sound very "lively". When you use the Ultra-G ANALOGUE cab-sim on the V-ampire, you really do hear the difference.

This is the best amp you can get for the money, it's as simple as that.

This is a short follow up of my previous review after reading the other reviews.
Anyone who thinks they can get a 1X12 digital modeling amplifier and expect it to work by itself in a band context live is a fool.
Even an all Tube 1X12 speaker amp would have some troubles with this, unless the venue holds 30 people....

I have to say that to be unable to get a good sound out of this amp like many reviewers have really makes me think that these reviewers either have no experience with sound or need to get their ears cleaned out.

Like any amp out there, tube, mosfet, transistor and most of all digital, It takes some time and patience to dial in a sound that will make you happy.
This happens with all amps. Not just this one.

Seems to me that certain "musicians" want Tone handed out to them on a gold plate.....
Learn how to play first....then RESEARCH and work for your tone!

I'm still trying to figure out who the heck Uli Behringer does it.
I have been a professional recording and touring musician for 15 years and now own my own music school and studio.
I've been working my butt off trying to get the best natural sounding Direct sound for recording hi-gain guitars and a ton of gear later here comes this $299 amplifier that does it.
Keep reading on for more details.
As for features, you couldn't ask for more from a single amplifier. Most effects, amps and cabs are on here.
I'm not going to write all the features, you can find those at the behringer website but I would rarely give a 10 to a product but in this case I can't help it.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a Parker Fly guitar with Hum (with split coil option) and Piezo.
My main style is Rock, Progressive and Metal but because of my work (recording session and teaching) I have to be available to achieve pretty much any sound needed.

But first let me tell you a little on how I got to this amp. I' ve been through the top of the line LINE 6 products, owned a Vetta II, Pod, POD xt.....Tried the Vox's, tried the fenders and the Johnsons almost coming to the conclusion that Digital modeling just isn't there yet. For live situations, no problem, but when in the studio all the digital artefacts start coming out. Sure if you have keyboards and all covering, they work just fine, but when you need a solid guitar tone with just drums and bass then there is no way any of these amps would cut it. To a inexperienced ear it might work, but for me who has worked with audio recording for 15 years it just wasn't good enough. Call me a sound snob.
So it was either going back to tubes, cabs and SM57's (which I did for a while with Mesa's and Marshalls frying up on me during recording sessions wasting time and money!) or it was continuing the search for the holy grail of recording amps....
I ended up doing a session for a studio in chicago whom told me they would like me to use the amp they had since they had a certain sound in mind. I get there and my first thought was "You have to be kidding me!", buy hey I plugged in and the when I heard the sound coming out of the studio monitors I just went "OH!".
It was a Behringer V-ampire on the Classic 50W setting.

So I decided to buy one for myself and mess around with it. Worst comes worth I would resell it on Ebay. No big deal for less than $300.

My overall review for this amp is that the sound coming from the 12inch jensen speaker isn't as good as the direct sound (The other modeling companies are the opposite, they sound good from speakers but not as good direct) but, the direct sound is amazing on any amp model. I did use one little trick to make it even better, which is my APHEX Guitar pedal in the V-ampires Efx loop. This really enhances the warmth and overall tone. But even without it, the direct sound using the dual XLR's is really the best I have ever used and worked with. No digitalness to the sound, carachter and some darn good effects and reverbs.
I have used this in a live situation with the amp facing me tilted slightly on it's back and used as a stage monitor (sounds a lot better than having you guitar miked then fed through a monitor!) and used the XLR outs direct to board.
The other guitar player in the band had a $3500 Diezel half stack.
At the end of the night I was recieving compliments on my sound many critisizing the fact that the other guitar player was muddy and they couldn't tell what he was playing even when doing lead work. So there I was with an awesome sound with my $299 amp getting compliments on my sound over the other guitar players $5000 guitar rig (that's including his effects and rack units). All I had was my Parker, my little amp and used it's dual footswitch to go from my 3 basic sounds. Clean, Rhythm , Lead.

This amp is made to go direct. The speaker is an option to hear yourself on stage or for practice purposes. I tried hooking it up with a 4x12 and it sounds darn good but still, the direct sounds are the best. And the best on the market out there.
On top of that, you get models not available on any other units, like the great german amps from ENGL.

I honestly do not know how to explain this. I have been through more gear in my career than one can imagine and I acheive the best results out of a $300 amp.
Any style is welcome with this amp and it will let the carachter of different guitars come through (unlike other digital units that you can put a PRS and a cheap Squire in at the same time and not tell the difference....LINE 6 anyone....).
9 because the sound from the speaker isn't as good as the direct sound...but hey, when you hear th

Never had a problem with it. Had it now for about year and a half on stage and in the studio with no problems.
Had back ups for Line 6 and my previous 2 amps since each one of them had suffered a problem somewhere down the road.

I think I said enough already. I really like it.
If it were stolen I would buy another one, then another one and another one.
This is my amp. Bar none.
I have reviewed other product on Harmony Central and this is the highest rating I have ever gave to a product.
Only TECH 21 comes close (along with the Behringer ULTRA G) to the sound I really wanted, but they are limited and have a certain carachter to them that don't work in some situations.
The V-AMPIRE is the best out there. Period.

Tons of feature's. So many effects.. I bought the FCB1010 and i am in veratility heaven. My main gripe is that you can't layer the FX, just use one at a time. You can use the compressor with any other FX, but have to use the computer to use that option. DOn'T FoRgEt.. your getting a ton of stuff for your money.

TWO Things that made my amp sound like crap..

1. The speaker simulation was turned on. YOU CAN'T EMULATE A GUITAR SPEAKER THROUGH A GUITAR SPEAKER. SOUNDS DISTANT, MUDDDY, and HORRIBLE.

2. I played it for a while after i turned the speaker simulation off. After cranking the amp for a good hour, the speaker broke up and came to life. I guess it needed time to break in. Suddenly i was smiling and it sounded good. REAL GOOD.

After those 2 things were fixed, I am VERY happy with my tone. Humbuckers sound like humbuckers, single coils like single coils. I've owned a ton of tube amps, have always been hypercritical of my tone, and I think they nalied a decent sound for 70% of these models, making this a very, very, very good sounding amp and a good buy.

I own the 50watt Jensen version.... I want the new 60watt BUGERA version. My amp needs more volume!!!!!!

I give it a 9, because these are the best digital models I've heard, and I think it blows away most everything else I've heard as far as a good guitar tone.

For the Price, it gets a ten. If this amp was as costly as a Line6 Flextone3 I would still rate it better than the Flextone3. My friend brought one home for me 2 try against the Behringer. As soon as i turned it up it sounded like Midrange vomiting all over the band room. It got lost in the mix. My V-AMPIRE doesn't seem to have as much power, but the tone is sooooooo superior. Who wants a loud girlfriend thats obnoxious? I'll take a quiet one that treats me better any day of the week. TEN

Judging from the latitude of opinion here, I think the best one could say for this amp is that it's not for everybody. I bought it because I've begun a little guitar doubling (I'm a keyboard player), and thought it would kill a lot of birds with one stone.
Truthfully, this amp has a jillion features. But it very much falls into the "ya get what ya pay for" category. After spending countless hours trying to refine a SINGLE sound, I honestly hope somebody steals this thing before I have to pawn it or sell it to some unwitting kid. Dinky little amps which accompany guitar 'packages' don't sound much worse. More...

Sound Quality : 1
Here's what's wrong with this thing, and I'll try to be brief. It is layer upon layer of coloring. The amp sounds aren't convincing, and they're fed through yer choice of virtual cabinets, which color the amp sounds and create some of the flattest crappy sounds it has been my misfortune to purchase. To compensate for this, a variety of effects and FX combinations are available to 'fix' what wasn't right to begin with. Add a touch of reverb and feed the whole works through a noise gate which causes the most uneven decay imaginable, and you've got this piece.
I bypassed the crappy virtual cabinets, and just used the amp models and the 'sound' (I'm being charitable) of the cabinet, and good grief! I had to crank the noise gate to 15! With the noise gate off, it is ungestionably the noisiest amp I've ever encountered, and 'buckers don't remedy the situation.
The presets are heavy on sci-fi sounds, which I suppose are there to divert one's attention from the fact that the thing couldn't hold it's own in the clean dept. to save it's life.
Live and learn.

I've been a full-time pro keyboardist for 28 years. I own too much gear.
I wish somebody would steal this to relieve me of the indignity of trying to con someone into buying it.
I've never thought so low of a piece of gear, and I gave it a fair chance.

The amp was certainly feature packed (note the use of the word "was"- read on). The 32 models and 16 effects were what attracted me to purchase this, coupled with the low price.

I firmly believe that this product is a quasi-legal knockoff of the line 6 POD. If you compare the two feature for feature, you'll see for yourself why I come to this conclusion. I have not tried the POD or POD 2.

I could not find it in a store anywhere in my area (Springfield/Hartford) so I purchased it on faith from AMS online.

Sound Quality : 1
I could not get a decent sound out of this amp, except for one or two clean sounds. I found the best one came from something I think was called "Classic Clean". I really wanted to like "Blackface" but it sounded clipped and harsh to me. All of the crunch or distorted sounds sounded squashy, overly compressed, and non-musical.

A good test of this is to run your a finger up and down the low E string (glissando) and listen for the round, central character of the note to come through. It doesn't with this amp. Stones-style boogie barre-chord comping also muddies up in a very disturbing way. I returned the amp for a refund due to the horrid tone.

Reliability : No Opinion
I did not keep the amp long enough to form an opinion (three days- it was that bad sounding).

It looks fairly solidly built. I suppose it would hold up. I do wonder what happens when an LED eventually burns out. All of the control knobs use a ring of LED's as their "pointer". Without these, you'd never know where your pot was set. There are no markers on them. They are also "encoder" wheels, meaning that they never really need to return to a zero point. They just change the setting from the current preset when turned.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The warranty was only one year. I never had to deal with customer support, but I'd highly reccomend American Musical Supply. They made the product return quick and painless.

I've been playing steadily since 1974. I play a Classic 50's Fender Tele and a MIM Strat with a Duncan JB Jr in the bridge. I have a Marshall Studio 15, a Tech 21 Trademark 10, and recently sold a Fender Blues Jr.

I suspect that there may be someone somewhere that might find this amp useful. I did not.

I just bought this amp new today. So far, the features are great. It has a lot of effects and you can combign them if you actually take time to learn to use the amp. Those who bash it for lacking features haven't taken the time to play around with them. It allows for imput into a P.A. and also, for between sets or background music, you can plug a cd player, drum machine, or whatever into the back of it. The only effect that i do not like is the auto wah...but who in the world uses an auto wah anyway? I haven't used this amp live yet, but the sound kicks the ass of my old peavey transtube efx 112.

Sound Quality : 10
I use one semi-hollow body guitar with dual humbuckers and one semi-hollow thinline with three lipstick tube pickups. So far, i love the sounds i can get out of it. ****PLEASE NOTE**** if you want this amp to sound exactly like any of the amps it models, don't spend your money on...save it. I bought this amp because I am a college student and i don't feel like going in debt to buy a my guitar amps...until I start doing music full time, this amp will cut it just fine. It suits my musical style perfectly...which at this point is limited to folk/rock and blues and contemporary pop style stuff. This amp does get a little noisy in the very high gain amp models with the gain all the way up...but, the noisegate takes care of that just fine. As far as and kind of rattle or buzz, i haven't heard any. It does highlight any pickup noise that you have...but of course any thing that's digital will pickup such noise, and in fact the actual tube amps that this models will generally make more noise than the digital model. It can do moderate distortion very well and the clean sound is very much to my liking. Once again, DO NOT EXPECT THIS AMP TO SOUND EXACTLY LIKE A 3,000 Egnater or Buddha boutique (sp)...after all the list price is only a little over 300.00. It does a good job for the money.

Reliability : 7
i've only had it for a few days, but it seems solid. It does have a lot of plastic...but remember folks, plastic is very durable and it helps to keep the amp light. If i remember correctly, Jenson speakers are known for their ability to take a beating...it's aight for the money.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for a little over 10 years...and this is my only amp...i trust the warranty. I know a guy who's gigged with his behringer for over 6 years with no problems whatsoever. When i went amp shopping i compared this amp to my Peavey Transtube EFX 112, a Line6 Spider and Spider II, and the Line6 Flextone II. I felt that, FOR THE MONEY, this amp was above and beyond better than any of these. If it were stolen or lost...all of my gear is insured...so I'd probably be able to get whatever amp i want...but i would probably get this one again...or upgrade to the V-Amp rack unit. I love that it has great sounds if you learn to tweak it. And i love that it has 125 presets. That's awesome. I wish it had a little more power.

Bang for buck is what im reviewing here.

I have a whole bundle of valve amps, so does it compare... short answer is i would take one of my valve amps over it quite easily, however i didn't buy it to put my biggger amps into retirement, the reason i bought this thing was for prcatice where it's totally impractical to turn up a 100 or 50w valve amp to where it sounds good. This thing lets me get a great sound at a low volume without pissing everyone off / getting evicted.

So far so good considering something this cheap. But upon inspection it's put together well although i think the cab is made from fibre board, so i wouldn't throw it around to hard

Okay this is an update since my last post. I think i was the second or third post on this website for this product. Read past reviews for all the features.

Sound Quality : 5
I have an rg570, and an epiphone les paul custom.
Now for the sound, it sounds decent, I found that it was a good modeling amp, and is up there with the line 6 products. I am not going to bash it to much, basically because some people like modeling amps, and I liked it for a while, thinking i would like modeling amps, until I wanted an all tube amp, and tried one out. The amp itself isn't loud enough, i practiced a with my band with it, and it rumbled to much, and wasn't loud enough. So i bought the behringer 412 400 watt slant cab, and tried it with that. It sounded good when I ran it in stereo mode, especially the effects. Now I started to really hate it, after I tried it in mono and stereo with the cab, and it still wasn't loud enough. There is one thing I learned, 100 watts of a modeling amp does not sound no where near 100 watts of a tube amp. So I got disgusted with it, and went out an purchased the peavey xxx 120 watt all tube amp. Now I finally found what I wanted, and I am satisfied. If you are just looking for a modeling amp , and modeling amps are your thing, go for this amp, if not, don't consider buying it. I will use it for some recording, but other than that, it is holding down my carpet so it won't peel up..lol.

Reliability : 5
Some parts are very cheap on there, the amp is basically a big plastic, cheap ply wood amp. It hasn't came apart yet, but that handle on there really looks cheap, like it would break in any moment. The amp is in good condition still.

Customer Support : 10
Great costumer support, they are a good company, and I still like the cab that I bought from them, like I said, i found that modeling amps aren't for me.

Overall Rating : 5
I have been playing for almost 6 years. I own a peavey xxx head,a behringer 400 watt 412 slant cab, a ibanez chorus/flanger pedal, an epiphone les paul custom, a ibanez rg570. I have more crap, but this is my basic set up.
I don't like modeling amps, they aren't for me, I am a all tube man, if you like modeling amps, and tons of effects get this amp. Its cheaper than most line 6's besides the spider , but if you want more, and all kinds of extras, like line outs, midi control, built in tuner, midi interface, 125 user banks, and all that cake get it.

Great sonds comming from the amp, NOT LOUD ENOUGH!! I dont know what I'm doing, but I cant get this amp loud enough!! And if I turn it up too loud, it's a rattle trap.... I do plan on keeping it for recording and the smaller gigs and I will just run it direct, but as for the big gigs I will not be used. It sounds AWSOME, I wish it sounded just as good loud as it does at a lower volume!

Seems pretty reliable still, no problems

It will power a 4x12, but I dont have one and dont know if I plan on using this for a giging amp anymore. It does sound GREAT, but just not loud enough, maybe I can mess with it some more and find some louder settings. My old 30 watt Peavey was louder than this amp by itself. My ole Replitone is still going to be my live amp, and it also did a grat job at the studio last week. If you do get this V-ampire to gig with at big gigs, plan on getting a cab or running it direct (Has great direct sound).

Manufactured in 2003 and bought in 2004. The concept of this amp is versatile -- from jazz, rock, country, and metal. It has 125 programmable channels accessed by an eclosed footswitch. Has an effect loop and phone jack. I wish it had a more usable tone; this amp sounds flat and one dimensional. It sounds very digital -- see below. I planned on using this amp for rehearsal, recording, and smaller gigs. It is touted as 50 watts each side in stereo. But it sounds more like 30 watts -- low wolume even with a 1x12 extension cabinet. Tons of effects and amp models, but most sound unusable even after severe tweaking.

Sound Quality : 5
I play a Carvin bolt with H/S/S and an Ibanez SC420 with H/H. Both guitars were cheated of their tone through this amp. The amp sounds very one dimensional and flat, even with a 1X12 ext cab closed or open-back. The models sound very digital and there is absolutely no variance in your pick attack or harmonics perceived through this amp. This is not for anyone who has heard their tone through a tube amp. The LX112 pales in comparison to any tube amp out there and does not sound even close. Do not expect passable "authentic" tone from the models on this amp. The volume is very low for a 50X2, even when I tweaked the gain, volume, eq, and presence for hours.

Reliability : No Opinion
I returned it.

This is a fairly new amp, made in late 2003 or early 2004.. It has 32 amp models and 16 effects. This is very versatile amp for any type of music from country to rock/hard rock. I posted a review earlier this year about the Rocktron Replitone and thought that was the best amp out, well after getting this amp, the only thing that keeps it from being the best is the fact it is onlyu a 1x12. This is a very easy amp to find the sounds you want.

Sound Quality : 10
At firt I was disappointed by the sound... the speaker would "fart out" when I choked off a note, but I later found out that almost every screw in this amp was loose enought to turn with my fingrs!!! I tightened them all up (only stripped 1) and tried tried it again and "Whal-la!!" no more farting speaker. Some of the amps sound pretty bad, but a few are just dead on what they are supposed to sound like and the rest sound better than the original. I did hook this up to a 4x12 today and it was VERY VERY loud, had plenty of power to push it. I wish I would have found this amp about 6 months ago and I wish they came in a 2x12 version, I have a feeling I'm gonna be getting an extension cabinet or using my Replitones as extensions. The noise gate is not as good as the replitones (replitone has a built in hush). Over all I'm giving it a 10!

Reliability : 9
Seems a little cheap made, but if I'm careful this amp should last a long time with constant use. The knobs are the only thing that worries me, they feel really cheap!!! Once i tightened up all the screws I was happy with product.

NA

Overall Rating : 9
Small and powerful!! Has enough guts to push a 4x12, can run directly into a board or computer for recording or getting in the mix better. If you cant find a sound you like in this amp, somethings wrong. I still Love my replitones, but this v-ampire is a very close 2nd, if it was a 2x12 it would be 1st.

I've now had my V-Ampire for about 5 months, so that I feel a little more comfortable commenting on its reliability than in my first review: I use my V-Ampire regularly, and I don't leave it at our rehearsal space but take it home, so it gets transported a lot. No problems so far, with one little exception: During the last transport one of the rotary knobs got lost. It didn't break off or anything, it just wasn't there anymore, so it must have been somewhat loose. I'm taking two points off for that, but otherwise my V-Ampire has been great.

Customer Support : 10
I've just dealt with them because of the missing knob, so that I can comment on this aspect as well now: When I called Behringer, the guy on the phone was very friendly but asked me to send a short e-mail with my address. I did, and they wrote back, saying that they were going to send me a spare part for free. Today I received my replacement knob, so my V-Ampire is complete again, and I'm a satisfied customer. (This was Behringer Germany, by the way.)

There are numerous product reviews available for the V-Ampire. Those who don't like the amp, often have not spent enough time exploring and benefiting from the power of the configurability of the amp. For example, how many of those who thought the amp initially was not loud enough had actually tweaked the gain, input gain, or the compression to get the volume and "touch" they expect?

For the money, this amp has no equivalents. Sure, you can go buy a $1500 Gibson Gold Tone Class A amp, which sounds really good, and might be a bit louder (if you never use the PA outs of the V-Ampire), and will give you a more limited range of sound, less effects, and all the trouble of vacuum tubes, BUT, the V-Ampire can do a pretty good job of emulating that amp too!

Sound Quality : 10
When you review or demo a modeling amp, never just start playing the presets to "see how it sounds." You are then testing the match of the presets to your preferences. I guarantee you will not be using 99 out of 100 presets in any modeling amp you buy, now or in the future. Unless, of course, you had the amp made for you ... a signature modeling amp with your own presets factory installed ... But, then you wouldn't be reading this review ...

The way I went about evaluating the V-Ampire was to forget about the presets, and set up 20 or so clean amp models to my liking, by tweaking the gain, volume, tone controls, compression, etc. Once I had some very acceptable sounds (and they can get quite loud AND clean at the same time), I set out to add just enough drive, or gain to get the "overdriven" quality I would need from a particular amp ... another 20 good presets to store. Then I added reverb, or other effects as needed for each model ... another handful of good presets resulted.

I can't imagine anyone needing much more out of this amp, and at this price the product delivers the highest value I have seen in the market in 20 years.

Reliability : 7
At this price, and given the fact that it is solid state, I think it will do just fine over 2 or three years of hard road use.

Only time will tell ... and by then I will probably have generation 2 of the V-Ampire anyway ...

Customer Support : 10
They have been helpful when I have had questions.

Overall Rating : 10
You need to be prepared to spend a little time with the amp to find the true potential of this device. I would recommend working with one or two amp models (clean) to start with and using L2 mode. After some length of invested time, you will have a set of invaluable sounds that meet your performance requirements. I use this amp for jazz, rock, blues, country, ... you name it, it delivers good sound when set up to do so.

I thought I would need a 212 config of this amp, and probably would still buy it immediately if it were available, At this price and performance level though, I don't really miss the extra speaker. Plugged into a BG412S, it does sound a bit more open, as would going to a PA . For everything including live performance, rehearsal, practice, recording ... the 112 config does just fine.

And I have pretty high standards when it comes to musical instruments and amplification ... few products today meet my requirements. This one easily meets mine.

Don't forget to allow some learning curve time if you choose to use a PC / Midi interface to set up the V-Ampire or the FCB1010. I recently started using a FCB1010, and find it is a very helful tool. It gives me Wah, drive, gain, volume, presets, reverb, and many other adjustments hands free. Just make sure you have the time to program or use your PC for programming the FCB1010 ... the time invested yields the results I need.

I bought this amp for the many effects, amps and cabs simulations, but also for its twin XLR output which makes it easy to get a clean sound in my computer. I'd have appreciated to get an optical out too, but... for the low price, it's more than okay, it's a dream.
Of course, it also have an effect loop, headphone jack, aux input...
I just wonder why they wrote Jensen in such high letters, I had never heard about this speaker manufacturer before ?!

I am using it with my Fender Telecaster Thinline 1988 Japan Proto.
I do not have a style in peculiar but I am pleased to soo I can play blues, rock, trash metal and reggae with it.
It's incredibly transparent : the volume or mic change are really sounding and it's a pleasure to use. Everyday I pick a sound at random and play.
Playing bass on it is also decent but I won't risk frying it by playing too loud...

Cannot say, it's at home, near my computer desk where and it is not supposed to move. I have not distinguished any potential hazard (vibration, fragility in the knobs...).
Yet it looks solid.

I began playing in 1986 and jammed with many different kind of bands... most of the time as a bassist, BTW. Were it lost, I'd buy it again because for the last years, I had no more amp, whenever I wanted to play, I switched a computer, a mixing desk and an effect rack which was really time consumming... it actually killed my guitar creativity.
Now, well, I switch it on, and play.
This is simple, straightforward, intuitive and inspirative, definitely the perfect amp.

This amp has all the classic sounds I need, and many modern high-gain sounds as well. It is a steal for $299. It is very convenient to have all the presets and effects and with the push of a button (or foot switch / foot board) call them up for just one song in a set.

I got mine from Music123, free shipping, and delivery was FAST!

Works well with all my Fenders and Gibsons. Works well for all music styles, jazz to rock. I can select the amp type and hear the "tone" of the guitar, reflected through the amp model as well as I can with any amp. Adding a 4x12 stereo cabinet (BG412S is what I use) really opens up the sound and adds a bit more volume and improves both the highs and lows ... very crisp and clean sounding.

Used with a standard american strat with rio grande muey grande pickups and an american b-bender tele (with a texas special up in the middle position). I play mostly blues, country, and some rock. This amps clean to mildly overdiven sounds are suprisingly good. I'm a lot more impressed than I thought I would be. I don't rally use the metal or heavy distortion stuff. This amp is very quiet, even at high volume. the sounds are very musical and this amp responds like a tube amp to volume control from the guitar. The auto wah is really top notch. On the down side, the volume is not what you would expect from 65 watts, even in a small venue you have to crank it up. I think a lot of this has to do with the head room necessary for the amp modeling. If you us L2 instead of L1 you can get more volume, but I like the sound better using L2. I improved the sound a lot by replacing the jenson speaker with a eminence and adding a marshall 1 x 12 cab. (in this configuration you get 100 watts stereo). Overall, I'm really liking this amp a lot more than expected. For the price, I'd be hard pressed to get a better sound, and its really easy to carry to a gig (no pedal board necessary).

Reliability : 6
Pretty solid except for the knobs those are cheap cheap cheap. I'm really kind of aprehensive about breaking one.

can't say, no experience here. Documentation is a little weak.

playing 28 years. Lots of stuff, mostly Fender electrics and Larraviee and Martin acoustics. Martin acoustic amp, gibson goldtone, ampeg reverberocket. I really like this amp more than I should. I love the nice musical sound from an easy to use solid state amp. I don't like the low volume and flemsy knobs. A beefed version in a 150W 2-12 combo or a 200 W head would be phenominal. I like it better than the line 6 equivelent. I acually bought this because it was cheap and I wanted a practice amp, it turned out to be a lot more.

This is one of the beeter choices of modeling (emulating) amp manufacturers today. I play Christian rock music ranging from clean praise style (chorus-delay-etc.) to hard pumping Audio Adrenaline/DC talk/Newsboys. This amp handles several styles very well.
The strongpoint to this amp is the features offered on the back. Direct in/out, Hi-Z/Lo-Z, Speaker Cab/ or Ultra-G direct box/ ground lift / effects in dial/ and more! What doesn't it have. These features make it great to plug into the church or our PA rig or perfect to plugging into the mixing board for recording. I really like these features since on our CD project, I miked my Deville and tried to edit it during the mixdown and was a little limited.
IT COULD USE A LITTLE MORE POWER ON SOME OF THE CLEAN CHANNELS. This can be addressed by editing the channel and triying to change the drive from 0 to 1. This doesn't work on all amp models, but several. This is ONLY a problem during practice since I will be putting the amp direct into the PA and my monitor mix for live performance.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Fender Am Deluxe strat(lefty) with a JB jr in the bridge position. I have been gigging with a Deville tube amp with some effects pedals (Vox Wah- digitech tone driver - ibanez flange - etc.) I tried this amp because our lead guitarist started using a Vox valtronix. I liked the concept but amp not looking fo rthe same sound he gets with the Vox (no offense -good amp). My tube amp has terrific tone, but the pedals seem to make it a bit noisy (even with a hush pedal - if the hush is low, the hiss is bad, if the hush is set high, it hushes all my tube tone. This is a no win.
This amp is VERY quiet!! I've used a digitech GNX 1 with the deville and used a Peavey transformer for practice and didn't care for either setup. The is heads and shoulders above those choices. I bought it just to practice with, but I don't have ANY reservations about gigging with it.
The distortion is great - with several choices. TRY THE SOLDANO!! The wah is better than any auto wah I've heard. It really tracks the attack!
I'm really happy with the variety of amps. It has me for the first time liking the Marshall sounds.

Reliability : 10
I thought I would be hesitant with the plastic volume pots, but it seems pretty sturdy. My old Deville has metal input jacks that I thought would last forever, but they are loosening up with not much luck trying to retighten them, so who knows.
Like anything else, take care of it and I think it will last. I have put it through the ringer on editing patches and going through all of the programming options and so far it hasn't done anything funky that would make me leary. (my lead guitarists Vox has taken more than 1 dive on us during live perfomrance - that kind of what they are known for besides their great tone)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with them, but I know my warranty card took extra postage to get to Germany. Upside is German engineering / downside is that's a LONG way to get customer support.

I am pleasantly surprised with the qulity of sound and design. Like anything to do with guitarists I have worked with they all have different opinions and preferences with equipment and brands. This one seems to work with me. I don't pile on alot of effects and don't wan to get confused using options. This has a variety of sounds and very good quality effects with some options of multiple effects. THIS AMP WORKS FOR ME. I've been through alot of equipment: Guitars - Mex.Strat,DEAN (never again), Rogue, De Armond, Ernie Ball (still have ++) and my Am deluxe strat and my guild D25 that I will never trade.
EFFECTS - Digitech RP7, Digitech GNX1, digitech tone driver, ibanez chorus, danelectro cool cat chorus, Vox wah pedal, and multiple stage tuners.
Amps - Peavey Bandit, Fender Evil Twin, Fender Deville, Peavey transformer, Peavey Delta Blues, Crate TD35, Crate Acoustic 60 watt, strawberry blonde.
I have kept the Deville and I think this Behringer is a keeper. It is one of the best choices for modeling amps (especially for the price!!). If lost I'd kick myself for being careless, if stolen, I'd pray that they get struck with a bad case of remorse. I don't think there is a major chance of it getting stolen due to the non-collector status. (Its not vintage or hard to find) But I'd look at getting another one unless ther is another option by then that I would want to try. So far I have only been loyal to the strat and the Fender tube sound. I'm always looking for something better or new to play with. This amp is pretty uselful though and I don't see me replacing anytime soon.

The amp features (emulates) many amps and cabinets. The configurability of the amp is good, but it would be better to have more control over the effects (chaining 4 or more, vs. a rotary "single selection").

NOT ENOUGH POWER for anything other than practice and some recording (depending upon how your studio is set up). Insufficient power makes the amp dependent upon a PA for all gigging.

I need more clean power and headroom, and more clean amp sounds to model the nuances of clean to slightly distorted amps ... not the wildly overdriven caractures of modern amps. I would like to use a similar amp to play everything from early R&B and Rock, Jazz and know the amp can (occasionally) put out the mildly overdriven sounds I need.

Sound Quality : 6
I base my judgement of this (or any other amp) on the range of clean sounds available, and this is where the amp falls a bit short, in modelling the clean palate of sounds, in live or studio (headphone / recording) modes.

It's almost as if the designers couldn't decide if they wanted a full palate of overdriven sounds or a full palate of clean sounds in this amp. I am not the best judge of overdriven modern metal, but I think the designers compromised a bit for the player who needs versatility and clean sounds for professional use.

Sounds are OK, but the design center seems to be towards "spectacular" overdriven sounds, vs. basic clean amps (and there are many very good clean amps, each with their own unique sound palate ... and nuances when overdriven slightly). Behringer chose not to model many of them and provide more overdriven sounds -- that's fine if you only play lead.

What I really would like to see from Behringer is a TWIN 12" configuration, or better yet, a TWIN 12" / 10" configuration to get the mids emphasized without loosing the lows -- if you question the sensibility of this speaker configuration check out the Gibson GoldTone GA-30RV which has killer mids and a solid low end, good for any guitar from jazzbox, acoustic, to les paul, telecaster or strat.

In summary what is lacking is:
- More Power (100RMS per side, minimum)
- More clean amp models, with focus and attention to clean to MILDLY distorted dynamics
- More control over more effects in the chain (not just a rotay selection)
- Twin Speakers (2x12, or 12 & 10 ideally)
- Upgraded Speakers (Jensens are OK, but Celection Vintage 30s would improvethe overal sound -- It also dissapoints me that Fender is using the Jensens these days in their reissue amps)

The clean models I like (2 of them) are quite good, there just isn't enought for the guy who doesn't want to play lead exclusively.

Reliability : 5
Haven't had it long enough ... Fender does a 3 year warranty, Gibson 3 as well, and Traynor 2 years unconditional. For the new kid on the block, I think 2 years minumum (excluding speaker) or ideally 3 years would help build confidence. Some other behringer amps have been reviewed on the net and seem to have a few more long-term problems than the average respected brand.

Customer Support : 5
For the new kid on the block, the warranty is too short. Phone support is good, but the vaule comes in when our long-term reviews stop reporting any problems.

Overall Rating : 7
Overall, this product rates a 9 if you are technical (you will read the manual), like a limited palate of clean sounds, and like the overdriven models, don't mind the volume level of a 40 watt solid state amp, and don't mind Jensen Speakers.

Overally it rates a 6 if you are picky about your clean to slightly overdriven sounds, need more effects control, need more power, and a better speaker brand and configuration.

OK, this product will be volume produced like a PC, and every year more modeling / processing power will be available, and the product will improve ... this is the future. So for under $300, I would say this is a good pracitce (not performance) amp, maybe good enough for the studio or demo tracks, if you don't need superior sound quality.

Expect to buy one this year under $300, and just like PCs, buy another in 2 to 3 years with more sound quality, more amp modeling capability, and at nearly the same $300 price! This is the new "volume producer" model, enhanced by digital modeling and the economics of using software to model many amp configurations. This model is what brought the 3GHZ PC into everyone's home, and this model will also bring you (either now or in a few years) and acceptable modeling amp at a reasonable cost compared to the tube ancestors.

While updating myself after 6 years of hibernation a long-time friend/dealer of mine allowed me to tote one of these to the house for an examination.
The amp was Brand New when I picked it up on December 31st 2003 so I assume it was manufactured in 2003, I returned it January 8 of 2004 so I only had it about 1 week. Therefore this review is merely based on 1 week. ..............................................................
I favor country, blues and traditional rock so you guessed it... warm-n-clean, chicken picken and the traditional grit(fuzz) is what I'm normally dialing for. This amp has it all except the ACTUAL warmth that can only be found in a true tube amp(V-ampire is Solid State).................................................................................
Along the way I read all the reviews (below) and don't see a need to include all the features, but will say it has more than most on the IN/OUT end of things..............................................................................
Features I WISH it had? - The #1 would be a TUBE PRE-AMP(more below)and the ability to combine the effects freely instead of having to choose...........................................................................................
Presently I'm coming out of hibernation so ... the amp was only used "in-home". I CAN say the 65 watter(100 w/ ext. cabinet)seemed more like a 30. Clean=weak, OD=ok(Behringer "Vintager"too). Still plenty if your through the mains.
I suppose the PLASTIC POTS would be considered a feature you should BE AWARE of, especially if you plan on giggin' this amp. With an anvil case I wouldn't see a problem, without one....I hope you're feelin' lucky.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a 91'American Stratocaster Plus Deluxe with 3 single coils(Lace Sensor-red rear, silver center and blue front) so some of the radical(metal type) patches were pretty noisy. I'm pretty sure that's the Strat talkin though...and not the amp.
Surprisingly the clean channel held clean even at higher volume levels, the distortion side could get as fine or as shredded as a guy needs. I noticed that it responded well to different levels of guitar volume(someone else mentioned that below).

Reliability : No Opinion
I didn't have the amp long egnough to voice an opinion on "reliability", however..... The plastic pots and flashy LEDs around them would be an immediate concern for a professional gunslinger but would be fine for the stationary picker. The cabinet etc... was quality workmanship seemed heavy and well-made.

I got my first guitar when I was 10, started club gigs at 18, national pro-tour at 28 and retired at 37. At 40 I've had too much gear to list and still hope to be a guitar player someday. :)
It was a trial...If it were lost or stolen I'd have to pay for it and would be pretty pissed.
As said above ... wish it had tubes. Bet you could add a small tube pre-amp in the trunk and loop it in to warm it up.

See the other reviews for a complete list of the features. The main reason why I bought this amp was is versatility, my smurf pod (V-Amp I) is so good I was sure it sounded more than ok. Really, every connection to the outside world you'll ever need is in this baby.

Sound Quality : 7
I own a yamaha pacifica 604W... maybe not the best guitar in the world but it suits my needs. It is equipped with one splittable humbucker and two single coils. I use it to play classic rock, and until it got defective (AGAIN!!!) I ran it through a Line6 Flextone XL.

When my Flex broke down I wanted to buy a new one.. until I found I needed to replace the floorboard as well. So I looked into the Spider series (the II series to preserve my floorboard) but found it was quite limited in it's connections to the outside world. And then this baby came my way. And yes I had to buy another floorboard (behringer MIDI thingy FB1010) but it was almost ?150 euro cheaper than a Line6 shortboard.... and fully programmable to suit my needs.

I had about two hours to fiddle with it before I went onstage... something I will not recommend to anybody.... but hey... I had no other amp since my flextone went dead on me (again). I made the error to dial in my desired sounds on the fly at a low volume setting, using my V-Amp models as a basis. Stupid!!! Stupid!!! Stupid!!! At low volume everything sounded great and well balanced but onstage... ohhh man. This is no criticism... the Line6 went thru a period of six months of tweaking before I was anything near satisfied with the presets.

What this amp really IS lacking is stage volume. I had to turn it up max to hear myself. So I'm afraid that for live gigs I will have to buy an extention cab. Turning it fully up is doing some BAAAAAD things to your distorted sounds (but the cleanish ones stayed yummy) adding some weird harmonics that were not pleasant to the ears. The audience weren't bothered with this... using the XLR's to feed the board all presets sounded fair to good (but not balanced so the soundguy really had to work to earn his money... should we make any money). Being a perfectionist... this almost made me burn and destroy this amp. But hey... it was my own fault.

I'm sure everything I need is in there somewhere. If I take some time to dial in some decent presets and buy an extention cab I probably will be overly satisfied. The factory setting contain some nice surprises... the "whales" preset is something I will definitely use in my laidback seventies LSD solo spots... and there are more.

I said it before... the clean tones are yummy. Very warm... rich.. full even after adding chorus to them. And this is true for nearly all amp models. But being a rock musician I am in desperate need of distortion... and here I'm not overly impressed. But then again... I need quite some more time with this amp. But for now it soon starts to sound very artificial when cranking it up.

Reliability : 8
The amp is built like a brick. I trust it completely. I could bash the bass players head with it during a gig and it still would do it's work. Try that with your all tube Boogie combo. Hmmm... remind me to actally try this out the next gig.

My Flex tended to lose all it's patches when hooking it up to do a gig (causing some very stressful situations... it happened that the man announced us at a crowded festival while I was busy quickly programming some basic settings from scratch). I think this amp is less vulnerable... but then again.. I only did gig once with it... time will tell.

Customer Support : 9
I own a V-Amp now for two years, and hauling it to the rehearsal room every week, connecting it and disconnecting it there and at home did some damage to it (mainly the power supply connector), and it was always fixed in a speedy satisfactory way. So I tend to trust Behringer for adequate service should anything go wrong with my V-Ampire.

Overall Rating : 9
Being a guitar player for 25 years (still playing reasonably crappy btw) I have used a shitload of stuff from all-tube heads to all-transistor keyboard amps and I was used to carry a crate full of effects pedals until I literally stumbled into the Line6 Flextone at the Frankfurt MusikMesse in 1999 when my love of modelling amps started (after my bruise healed).

The Flex XL died several times on me the last year. And it repeatedly lost it's patches just minutes before I had to do my thing onstage. I hope the V-Ampire will not put me thru this shit, although recovery is much easier with the MIDI software that is freely available from Behringer.

If it melted down or was stolen (why steal an amp this cheap?) I would immediatly replace it. It's the cheapest modelling amp with this shitload of connections, amp models, cabsims and cool effects. Amazing how Behringer succeeds to deliver quality stuff for these insanely low prices.

One thing I would like is a better user manual. The manual is describing three different products at the same time. Although there is much overlap it it still would be nice it there was a manual just concentrating on the amp.
But to get familiar with an amp with this much versatility NEEDS a clear manual IMHO. There is NO WAY I could find my way through all the controls and features without a manual, but the supplied one is really awful. Download it from Behringer's website to catch my drift.

The preset switching latency and weird wah pedal characteristics are some concerns I have to learn to live with as well (takes some time to get used to). I don't know if this is a FB1010 or V-Ampire issue. And again... I need some more time programming my hardware... Badly.

So although I have my concerns, I'm still really confident this amp can be tweaked to fully suit my needs. And this at a really unbelievable price.

This amp has a lot of features for the price check out Behringer's website to get the complete specs. Just one input channel but the included footswitch can switch between the five different sounds in the selected bank or activate the tuner (there are 25 banks btw = 125 presets). I like that it has a noise gate. I don't use the effects too much except reverb but I don't like guitar sounds w/ effects personally. The only thing I would change, is that its internal sampling rate is only 32kHz (!), in this day and age that is crazy. But it sounds just fine to me, I can't really tell. It should work for a lot of styles w/ all the models and FX - I am a beginning guitar player and I mostly play black sabbath, nirvana, and blues riffs and more modern death metal type stuff I guess. It works great and has great clean and distoreted. It has speaker emulated direct outs and an FX loop too. There is also a moment of silence when switching patches and only 500 msec delay time, so this loses a few points

Sound Quality : 9
I use an ibanez gsa 60. it has 2 singles and one humbucker. the noise gate saves me on the singles cuz the powersounds are noisy as heck :) LIke I said it has good variety of clean, overdriven, and distorted sounds and I can get a whole lot of different tones out of it. It seems pretty quiet to me when I use the humbucker but I only play w/ my roommates in our garage or in my bedroom. It is loud as hell and I can't turn it up much past 3/4 of volume or it will cause cymbals walls etc. to rattle and hurts my ears. The cleans stay clean at loud settings. The distortions can sound definitely evil although w/ some models it is very hard to get both a good clean and good dirty - but there are models specialized for each so I guess it's not a big deal. I don't know if the emulations sound real although I have made some sounds that sound a lot like old guitar sounds from 60's records so I guess its pretty close. Although there are some combos of eq/gain/amp model that just sound terrible, like you have a broken amp... I will use these sounds for my industrial band!

Reliability : No Opinion
Seems fine, all the knobs and inputs seem constructed well and the footswitch is sturdy, I have only had it for like 3 months so who's to tell in the long run... it doesn't get very hot after extended operation which is good.

Customer Support : No Opinion
They have a five year warranty, but you gotta send it to Germany I think if something goes wrong - it weighs 50 pounds! ha! But my local shop says they will do it under the warranty. BTW the manual is not very good, it doesn't include a lot of the charts it refers to! fortunately it is not too hard to figure out what's going on if you are actually just looking at the front panel- in fact it's quite simple but the manual just makes it seem hard!

Overall Rating : 10
I used to play guitar for about a year until my acoustic broke and I gave it up to go play synthesizers and spend lots of money dealing w/ pain in the butt MIDI and whatnot. Then five years later I picked up a bass, played that for a month, then bought a guitar and this amp. I had 300 dollars to spend on an amp and I compared it to every amp in the pricerange in the shop and this one beat them all. There was a Marshall w/ FX that was close but it had no footswitch so I went w/ the Vampire. I love it so much, I can't believe it is digital it sounds quite organic. If you are a beginner, and want an amp that will allow you to experiment w/ a lot of different styles w/o having to buy tons of FX pedals and old amps this is a great way to go. If you have 300 dollars to spend on an amp I don't think you can do any better than this. I wish the footswitch could switch between banks, and I wish the FX paramters were more editable from the front panel ( you have to edit them w/ MIDI, there are quite a few params). IF lost or stolen, I would be too poor to get another. Hopefully since its so heavy I would be able to chase after whoever grabbed it and get it back :) IF you are rich and can afford the POD or whatever I'd say take a look at it, maybe its better, but look at this too because the specs are similar and and it's a lot cheaper. If you are looking for a cheap but loud and versatile combo amp I would put this one at the top of your list. My friend has a Peavy Bandit 112 and the Vampire kicks it all over... my other friend has a fullstack w/ a Sovtek head and to me, they sound pretty similar except for volume and maybe the tubes are just a wee bit warmer.. of course the sovtek doesn't have 9 types of reverbs or 15 FX :) I give it a 10 mostly becuase of value for money

Just a note for the previous reviewer: According to info on one of the Behringer forums on the net, some (if not all) currently selling V-Ampire units have S1 mode selected by default. This will retain the cabinet simulations and thus sound like crud. You might want to try explicitly setting the unit to the L1 or other live setting to make sure you are getting the best sound out of it. If you still don't dig it that's fine, just thought you might want to check it out before returning the unit!

See the other reviews for features... I just wish it had a digital out like the v-amp 2 pro... but it has many great features...

Sound Quality : 6
First of all let me preface my comments by saying that me comments on the sound here are based only on the 12" Jensen speaker that the unit comes with... others have said that the v-ampire sounds much better when you use other cabinets... that might be so, in fact I believe them, but I want to help out those users who want to know how this amp sounds with the speaker it comes with... Let me also say that I have no ill will toward behringer or any deep love for line6... I own prdoucts from both companies and like them... In fact I like my behringer v-amp 2 "blue pod" more than my line6 pod 2.3... I thought that since the v-amp 2 sounded so good that the v-ampire probably sounded good too... but I was wrong... I know many will say sound is "subjective" but hear me out...

First I used two guitars to test the behringer v-ampire versus the Line6 Spider II (NOT the first spider amp released years ago).
The first guitar was an Ibanez RG570 with stock pickups (v7 s1 and v8), which are passive pickups. The second guitar was a Jackson Soloist from 1992 modified with EMG pickups 81 and 85, which are active of course--battery and all...

I am sorry to report that the heavy distortions did not sound as good on the v-ampire as they did on the spider II. On the spider II the heavy distortions were very crisp with good bass and fat thick midrange... it was the midrange and to some extent the treble that was lacking on the v-ampire. For example, my favorite patch on the v-amp 2 is 6,E the savage beast distortion--very good for metal... but this patch sounded weak (bad mids and muffled treble) and "muddy" on the v-ampire---I was so disappointed. Switching Guitars (Ibanez to Jackson) did not help too much either... I tried the other distortions on the v-ampire (you can see I like hard rock and metal sounds) and with one exception I was not happy (the one exception was better but still disappointing).

Did I give up on the v-ampire... no... I wanted it to sound good... I opened the manual and read about the configurations: S1, S2, S3, L1, L2... L1 is the default and its horrible everything sounds like its muffled... treble's are not alive even if you boost them with the knobs.... I tried L2, which uses the ultra-g speaker sim and things sounded better--better trebles--more alive but still not as full and rich as the spider II insane patch (actually preset D on the spider II which uses insane). For completeness sake I tried S1 = not good, which makes sense since its not for live sound anyway; s2= just as bad as s1, s3= better but still not great....

What is good on the v-ampire is the clean tones, 6,D is very nice, and the 65 watts volume is fine (I know its says 100 and 2x50 but with the 12" 8 ohm jensen you only get 65 watts--see the manual) and the effect were totally superior to the spider II which has terrible effects... line6 always manages to screw up the effects...

So I am returning the v-ampire... I guess my point is that if you are just going to use the 12" jensen speaker beware and try to test it out before buying it....

Reliability : No Opinion
The v-ampire is very solidly built and very heavy 50+ pounds... I only had it for a short time but it looks quite sturdy and mesh over the speaker seems fine and sturdy unlike some have said...

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never dealt with behringer...

Overall Rating : 7
Because of the price and the effects and the many connections for recording and playing live the overall value is good, but the sound through that dang jensen is not! Its ok but I have decided to keep my spider II, with all of its flaws, instead of the v-ampire for one reason: tone.....

Behringer's new 1x12 digital modeling amp. Tons of features for an amp of this price. Essentially a V-Amp 2 or V-Amp Pro rolled into a combo amp. 32 amp models, 15 cabinet models, loads of effects. Lots of I/O connections, external speaker jack, 12" Jensen speaker, open-back cabinet. 125 user-editable presets split into 25 banks of 5 each. Also comes with a 2-button footswitch for up/down preset switching within banks, but you can't change banks with the footswitch. I demo'd the V-Ampire against the new Line6 Spider II 1x12, and there was really no contest. The prices are identical, but in my opinion the Behringer really blew away the Spider. The Behringer has 32 amp models vs. 12 on the Line6, the effects on the V-Ampire are much more diverse, better sounding, and more adjustable. The Line6 only has 4 presets, and you need to spend $80 on their most basic footswitch.

Sound Quality : 9
This amp sounds great. I'd owned a V-amp (version 1) before, and was generally impressed. Having also owned a Line6 POD, I knew that the V-amp wasn't quite as "there" with the amp models, but was much less expensive. The same goes for the V-Ampire. The amp models are not quite as warm and realistic as those in a Flextone, but are really much better and warmer than I'd expected based on my experience with the V-amp. While Line6 may have done a better job of duplicating the "sound" of many modeled amps, I've never really been that impressed with the dynamics of their sound. The Behringer on the other hand seems much more "alive" than any Flextone I've ever played. Of course, some amp models are better than others; the Marshallm "Custom Hi-Gain" (modeled after EVH's old hot-rodded Plexi)and Engl models really stand out, as do many of the clean Fender settings. Whether or not they sound exactly like the amp being modeled is not my concern; the point is that they sound GOOD. The amp responds particularly well to adjustments on your guitar's volume knob; it cleans up nicely when you back off. The effects are quite good and are all adjustable; my only gripe is that even at their lowest level settings they really "color" the sound of the amp. With the effects off, the amp really has an "in your face" vibe, but as soon as you begin to blend in the effects the amp has a more "distant" tone. Nothing really bad, but something I'd noticed with the V-amp as well. Run through a 4x12 extension cab, the sounds of this amp are especially good. I have a dozen or so guitars of various styles, and play everything from hard rock to jazz/blues, and this little monster can do it all quite well.

Reliability : No Opinion
It seems sturdy; it's heavy. It's digital, so who knows? I had no trouble whatsoever with my V-amp, and I used that daily for 2 years. Time will tell with this one.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Dunno. I know my dealer well, so I'm pretty sure I'll be well taken care of. As for Behringer, I have no experience with them.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've been playing for 20 years and have owned way too much gear. No, this amp is not a Line6 Vetta. It is, however, one of the best values on the market today in my opinion. Nothing that I've seen or heard matches the combination of sound and flexibility that you get with this amp for this ridiculously low price.

The V-Ampire combo amp provides excellent performance at a very fair price. See previous reviews for a good rundown on its many features.

I use this amp as a guitar monitor routed to the main sound system via its dual XLR cabinet-voiced outputs. No artifical coloration here -- what you hear in the combo speaker is what your audience gets through the mains.

Sound Quality : 10
I use both a Fender Robert Cray Strat and a Carvin TL-60 tele style through an A/B switch to the V-Ampire. So far, this little jewel fits the gamut of classic rock to contemporary country quite well. What is most impressive is that I can play an 80-song gig and work off only a few of its well done, easily tweakable presets.

One of the rare capabilities of this solid state amp, is that the V-Ampire responds excellently to variations of the guitar volume control. On most tunes I can go from clean, to crunch, to intense overdrive by simply adjusting the guitar's volume control. And it does this equally well with single coils or humbuckers. The gain structure is unique in a solid state amp as its responds to picking attack and nuances unlike anything I've used before. The sound is never thin nor starved sounding, but remains full from settings 2-10 on the instrument's volume knob. This function has allowed me to get rid of all the floor effects and midi switchers and I can successfully get all the sounds I need off the amp's provided two-buttom footswitch. This is an amazing and welcomed feat for any amp to be able to pull off. I've played through price-inflated designer amps that couldn't accomplish this handy function.

Some have reported the amp's lack of loudness, but I find it to be quite substantial since I run through the mains system, too. Yes, without signaling through the mains, it would be challenged by a drummer on steroids, but by adding a second cabinet through its built-in stereo power amp, you'll be back in charge of your stage volume.

Sounds are plentiful, useable and easily reprogrammable and this amp has more output/input routing options than I've ever seen on a combo. Push the amp a bit and even the most faithful tube-head player will be impressed with its non-digital warmth, sustain and tone. This is the most easy to use, versatile and toneful amp I've used. I'm tempted to buy two more, put them in storage. Someday, Behringer will be forced to double their prices when they've successful established their demand in the market. Buy now, friends, while your hard-earned musician dollars translate into a seriously good performance/price ratio.

Reliability : 8
I push an amp hard, but the V-Ampire has stood up well through its debut performance requiring 5 non-stop hours of performance tunes. Will be able to verify its reliability after about six more months of use.

Customer Support : 8
Never had to deal with Behringer. I own three of its products including the ACX1000 acoustic amp and the PMX2000 powered mixer. All perform well and reliably.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing almost 40 years and have owned every conceivable piece of gear available. I also use the very impressive Traynor YCV-40 all-tube combo, but with built-in effects and a convincing tube sound, the V-Ampire is my main amp with the Traynor waiting in the wings as a backup.

I'm really impressed that Behringer is producing a combo that has everything on board a player needs and at a price that should be embarrassing to other amp manufacturers, including the industry big dogs. For now Behringer is the one to watch.

See other reviews. Already described.
I use the amp in the studio and in a live setting, club, hall. I run the amp XLR outs direct to the PA system or to a Yamaha power amp to an external stereo 4X12 cabinet.

Sound Quality : 10
Various humbucker and single coil guitars.
Has enough amp, cabinet and effects to suit any style.
Excellent sound. I must say that this amp sounds excellent through the headset and through the XLR recording outs. The 12" speaker is adequate but this amp sounds awesome through a 2X12 and even a 4X12 in stereo. Effects are good, not like my TC Electronic G-Force, but in a live room with a crowd, no one can hear the difference.
And that's where it counts, not in the sterile environment of a lab!!!.
The emulated amps and cabinets are very realistic, I own a Mesa Boogie, a Soldano, a Rivera, a Lee Jackson, a Peavey XXX and a couple of Fender. I can make my amps sound like the Behringer emulated ones but I cannot make the Behringer emulate all the possibilities of every amp I own. The sound of the Behringer is not exactly the same but if I record my amps and record the Behringer, they sound the same. So the Behringer modeling is more like that of the recorded amps it emulates instead of the live sound.
Once again, let me repeat, in a live or recorded environment, the sound is as good as any amp and cabinet I own.

Reliability : No Opinion
Had it for a couple of weeks, seems sturdy enough. Survived a couple of live gigs. Too early to tell.

Never had to deal with them, I own some of their rack gear and nothing has ever broken.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing since 1967. How time flies when you have fun...
This is one of the best amps I ever owned, a real winner. In a real world situation, in a club or a hall, playing live in a band, this is awesome. I use the XLR outs and run the signal to a Yamaha power amp to a 4X12 stereo cabinet or direct to the PA system.
I compared it to a Vetta upgraded to version 2. The Vetta sounds a bit better in my studio, all by myself, due to the 2X12 and the higher DSP sampling rate. Add a 2X12 to the Behringer, surround yourself with a band and a crowd, and you will be very challenged to justify the cost of the Vetta. In a live situation, where we make our living, there is no difference. So for the $$$$$ paid, there is no hesitation, the Behrinmger is an absolute winner.

I have owned a V-Amp 2 for several months, so I was an 'informed' purchaser of the V-Ampire. There are a number of very useful amp adn speaker models, as well as effects, available. Frankly, I can't think of a useful effect or amp simulation this amp lacks.

That said, there are stones among the roses. The amp models range from 'adequate' (like the British Class A simulation, which is based on the Vox AC-30) to 'excellent' (like the British HiGain model of the Marshall JCM800), with many in between. I will say that of the 32 amp models and 15 speaker models, I tend to use 8-9 of the amps and 6-7 of the speakers routinely. Consider, though, that I would not like all of those AMPS if they were present; it makes sense, then, that I don't like their models.

Sound Quality : 9
I will start out by saying that the way the amp ships it sounds like total garbage. There must be a rule somewhere that states that all factory presets have to be over-the-top caricatures of famous sounds. The input gain (look in the manual, section 3.1) in particular was far too high for any of my guitars, and this caused a buzzy, farty sound on all the high-gain models. Changing this changed the entire sound of the amp.

Most of the sounds are very usable. I currently own three tube amps, and have owned more in the past. I have NOT owned all the amps modelled-who has, really? I can't judge whether the amp models are accurate on that basis. I CAN say that I can find most any sound I'm searching for with some tweaking-the models sound, generally, very good. So I'm not basing this rating on 'authenticity', but rather usability.

Although the amp is rated at 70 watts through it's internal speaker, it is certainly not a LOUD 70 watts-I have doubts about this thing hanging with a drummer.

Reliability : No Opinion
It's heavily built of MDF, so that's a mixed bag. I'd certianly prefer void-free birch ply, but this thing cost $300 shipped, so let's be realistic.

The MIDI jacks have far too much wiggle for me to be comfortable with the long-term durability of the unit, but to be fair my V-Amp 2 has been very reliable. I'll wait to rate it in this category.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them, so no opinion. Their website is informative, though.

Overall Rating : 10
I think this amp is going to get a real workout with me-it's very versatile, sounds very good and was really dirt-cheap. As far as bang for the buck, I can't think of anything that can touch it. This rating (like the real world!) considers price.

I love to play blues and many versions of rock (from Beatles to SRV to RATM) and this thing gets me to there and beyond. I use a Fender American Standard and a Fender made in Mex. Tele.

Like with anything not all things are perfect. However with the amount of sound this amp offers there is much to like.

BTW I found that adding a 1X12 extension cab added a world of capabilities to this amp. I would recommend this to all.

Built as strong as my old trusty Peavey (very strong).

This is a brand new product just released from behringer. I play mostly heavy metal, hardcore, and punk music. Alot of the sounds suits it just fine.
It comes with a 2 button footswitch, for up and down on the banks.
I have only practiced with this amp, haven't recorded with it yet, but plan on it soon. The volume is a bit to low for my taste, when they told me it had 70 watts power i thought wow, just like my peavy, and it was not no where near the volume i wanted it to be.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using a esp ltd m-107, and an Ibanez RG-570.
I love the savage beast on there, it is very good for my metal. I also love the mesa boogie simulatations. Also the brit Hi gain is very awesome at its highest pre volume and the gain all the way up.
The clean sounds are alright, you have to really tweak with them if you want a great sound, so you will have to experiment with these sounds.

Reliability : 8
It is built very strong by just looking at it. I would gig with it without backup, but the problem is I don't believe it would be loud enough to gig with , without putting it through a soundboard. It isn't loud as I would like it. When they said it was a 2x50 watts of power, I thought that is going to be good, but to me it sounds really low. I turn it almost half way up when I play at home, and I have turned it up all the way, I don't think its going to be loud enough to gig without turning it all the way up, and I don't even won't to have to do that.

Customer Support : 10
I talked to them several times before i bought the product, they were very reliable and helpful, even on other products like the footcontroller.
The warranty is a year long.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing for 5 years. I have owned other crap, that was good, but not good enough.
If it were stolen or lost, I would problem have to go for something else, I love them amp itself but the volume isn't loud enough for me.
I love all the sounds and effects, and how you can make the delay play for a long time, I played a lick, and it played it for a minute as it slowly faded out, you have to tweek both effect peramerters. I hate the volume of it, but who knows when I gig with it finally or record with it, I may change my mind.
Wish the volume was what a real 2x50 watt would sound like.

The V-Ampire is brand new (released September 2003) and I've only had it for a liitle over two weeks, but since there isn't any review yet, I thought I'd share my thoughts anyway. I have been a very happy user of the V-Amp 2 for 1 1/2 years though, so getting started on the V-Ampire was very easy for me.

It's a modelling combo with 32 amp models and all the usual effects (compressor, wah/auto-wah, chorus, phaser, flanger, rotary, delay, reverb), so it's as versatile as an amp can get. My band plays funk/soul covers, but I also play quite a bit of rock guitar, and the V-Ampire gives me all the sounds that I will need for the songs we play.

One addtional effect that I would like to have is an acoustic simulation (as in the Bass V-Amp) because it might come in handy live, and there isn't a harmoniser either, but neither is a problem for me.

Thanks to the LEDs around the dials, any changes that are made to the V-Ampire's controls are become visible instantly - this is as good or even better than motorised faders. Dialling in all kinds of sounds is very intuitive and easy, but for full control over all effects settings and combinations, it's necessary to connect the V-Ampire to a computer and use Behringer's (free) V-Amp Design software.

The amp has several outputs, of which I find the balanced XLR-outputs the most interesting. These have an optional analog speaker simulation ("Ultra-G") which can go directly to a soundboard, i.e. it's not necessary to place a mic in front of the V-Ampire when playing live.

Even though it has only got one 12" speaker (Jensen JCH 12/70, 8 Ohms), the power amp is actually stereo, so it's possible to add another cabinet to it, or even not use the internal speaker at all. I haven't used the V-Ampire with the band yet, but I'm pretty sure that the built-in speaker will be loud enough for rehearsals or small gigs - but then I don't play death metal. Wattage numbers usually don't say that much but for the sake of completeness: Using the built-in speaker the V-Ampire delivers 1x70W (8 Ohms), using external cabinets (4 Ohms) it's 2x50W.

Sound Quality : 9
My two main guitars are an Ibanez RG-550 and a Fame Forum III (excellent PRS copy, with two splittable humbuckers), and the V-Ampire works well with both of them.

The V-Ampire is esssentially a V-Amp 2/Pro with an added power amp and speaker, so if you know either of these boxes, you know what to expect from the V-Ampire.

Of course I don't like all of the 32 models, but neither do I like all "real" amps that are available. There are, however, *many* models that suit my playing. For funk/soul I mostly use clean and mildly distorted sounds, and the "Clean V-Amp", "Custom Clean", "Classic Clean" and "Black Twin" models all work very well in this context. For soloing and rock stuff I use high-gain sounds, and I particularly like the "Ultimate V-Amp", "Modern Hi-Gain" and "Custom Hi-Gain" models.

In my opinion, most models respond very well to my playing, and different guitars also sound different when played through the V-Ampire. The built-in speaker sounds open and direct and transports the characteristics of the models well.

The built-in effects are just fine to my ears, although I wish that it were possible to access all effects combinations without having to have a computer nearby.

The analog speaker simulation on the XLR-outs does a good job of making the V-Ampire's sound availble to a PA. The point of having an analog simulation is that the V-Ampire already has a guitar speaker, so that it doesn't make sense to send all signals through a digital speaker simulation first (although this *can* be done as well). Signals that go directly to the board, however, need a speaker simulation, and for those the analog speaker emulation is there.

Reliability : No Opinion
As I have said, I've only had the V-Ampire for about 2 weeks, so I can't really say how reliable it is. It surely seems to be rugged and roadworthy, but I'll have to do a few gigs with it before I can further comment on this point. As far as backups are concerned: Since I already have a V-Amp 2, it's easy enough for me to take a it with me as back-up and go directly into the soundboard, should the V-Ampire decide to stop working for some reason.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Prior to buying the V-Ampire, I have sent them several e-mails and called them, and they have always been helpful and friendly. Of course the real question is what happens if I need my V-Ampire repaired, and since that hasn't happened yet, I can't comment. Warranty is two years, and I live in Germany, so finding an authorised service center shouldn't be a problem.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 16 years, and I have tried quite a bit of equipment in that time. One of my reasons for buying a V-Ampire was that it can deliver lots of usable sounds in one small packed, thus saving me the hassle of lugging around and setting up the rack gear that I had been using for the past couple of years.

If it was stolen today, I'd definitely buy another one. I have looked at quite a number of modeling amps because I wanted something versatile. I liked the Zentera and the Vetta, but both of them are grossly overpriced in my opinion. The Vox Valvetronix (don't remember which one) wasn't bad either, but I didn't find it nearly as impressive as some people seem to do. One thing that I dislike about most modelling amps (including ZenAmp and Flextones) is that looking at the amp doesn't tell you anything about its settings, and the V-Ampire (as well as the V-Amp 2/Pro) solves this problem elagantly - and besides, all these red LEDs will look impressive on stage. <g>

One thing that I haven't mentioned is price: The V-Ampire costs considerably less than most (if not all) other modelling amps. Of course this wouldn't mean a thing if the sound wasn't there, but since it is I would defnitely suggest taking a close look at the V-Ampire if you're shopping for a versatible and portable amp.

i love behringer.... this review is for a new behringer v-ampire lx1-112 100-watt modeling combo. i just bought it new for $300. this thing is jam-packed! 32 amp models. 16 digitl effects. 9 kinds of reverb, which is independent from the rest of the effects. 15 cab models. full midi. stereo xlr outs, with digital or analog cab modeling. (depending on which configuration mode you're using) 2 1/4" outs. effects loop. fottswitch jack. (for use with the included footswitch) 3 live configuration modes, and 2 studio. 2 speaker outs, configurable for 100-watt mono at 4 ohms, or 2x50-watt stereo at 8 ohms per side. adujustable tuner. 125 memory locations. headphone jack... + a ton of other great crap! i love this thing! $300!!! the only thing more i could ask for is 2x12's instead of one, but i just plug in my sonic 2x12 cab, and run it in full stereo bliss. it's more than loud enough. if you don't use an external speaker cab, it'll push the single internal speaker at 65 watts. not bad, but ya might well get the full 100 out of it. if you use both speaker outputs it cancels the internal speaker and you can use it as a head to power a stereo 4x12 cab. it's relatively easy to use. with any new piece of gear, always consult the manual, but you basically turn nobs until you hear what you like. i automatically knew my way around it, cause i'm also the owner of a v-amp 2.

here's where the shit really hits the fan! FUCKING INCREDIBLE! i'm playing a hamer standard with stock duncan design pickups. i mostly play melodic metal in the vein of carcass, death, soilwork, arch enemy... it's covers every tone i need. i'm not crazy about super brutal death metal fuzz distortion. i go for the 5150 "brown" sound, and i get a damn great mod with this amp! you can get anything from sparkly clean to blusey grit to ultra-brutal, make your mom shit herself while she's watching oprah ditortion! i highly reccomend the custom high gain (5150) modern high gain (soldano) rectified high gain (boogie) classic clean (jazz chorus) and tweed combo (fender). they really do sound true to the originals. the cleans don't distort even when the amp's cranked. the noise gate is great. you don't have to tweak it much, just set from 1-15. you set around 8, you get moderate hum with a bit `o feedback if you like that sort of thing. set it on 15, you get 0 hum and 0 feedback, even when it's cranked. they probably won't publish this since i'm praising it so highly, but this is by far an incredible amp. the high-gain sounds really match the real amps. granted if you have this sitting next to a soldano super lead 1/2 stack.... you're going to notice a difference, but my point is.. i'm not sure that difference is really worth $1700 extra bucks for a 2-channel 100-watt head with no effects... the effects are great! they don't sound digital! the delays are beautiful, not to mention very tweakable. if you can't dial it in, you'll be able tap it in. the echo, delay, and ping-pong are all very usable. but, if you use a lot of delay, run this amp in stereo!!! they still sound great in mono, but trust me... it's that much better in stereo! the reverb!... the reverbs on this thing are worth $300 alone! anything from tiny room, to spring, to ultra-room! (i love the ultra-room! it ads a beautiful, lush keyboard like ambience to your sound! it's awesome on clean settings!). the modulations sound good, but don't take my word since i don't really ever use too many moduation effects. the flange sticks out though... overall, this thing sounds amazing! you got to keep in mind that $300 price tag!

Reliability : No Opinion
i've only had it for 9 days... but i would depend on it without back-up. nothing has gone wrong with it yet... it seems pretty sturdy.

Customer Support : No Opinion
haven't had to deal with them.

i've been playing for 8 years, and i'm overjoyed to have finally stumbled across an amp that has everything i need in one box! if it were lost/stolen... i wouldn't even hesitate to buy another. all i have to say is this, fuck line 6.... not only does this amp have twice the featues and sounds far superior to any other modeling amp i've ever played through, it's about $500 less than every other modeler out today. for $300.... this thing fucking crushes!
