I have bought no less than 3 amps this year from Robert Hudson . and I'm telling you these amps are NOT to be ignored. so far I've played or owned the texas tornado the hornet a JTM 45 blues breaker type combo the shred head and two classic glass series amps all made this year
These amps are all very different from each other but each one does its job very well. I can't comment on specifics but if you want to email me I'll try to answer any questions

I've tried les pauls, teles, strats, and some of my own custom guitars in these amps, and each one reacts to the instruments indiviual tone most excellently, the type of amp will determine the tonal charateristics of the sound , but the definition and balance is THERE. and thats what I'm talking about.

the only problem I've had so far has been faulty tubes but nothing wrong with the amp.

Robert is the Man, I have never seen a tech turn an amp around as fast. He's the busiest guy i know. I won't lie to you. he will let you have it right between the eyes if you do something stupid. and he's not cheap ,BUT the stuff ALWAYS comes back fixed and sounding rightous
He even solved a mysterious ossillation in a 65 blackface bassman that that guy in Texas couldn't fix

This is an interpretation on the vintage Fender theme, which resembles to me a sawed-off Bassman. It's a short cabinet with Bassman-type controls across the top-rear edge (Normal and Bright inputs, normal vol, bright vol, treb, middle, bass, presence). The solid-wood cabinet contains two Eminence spkrs, a 12" and a 10". No reverb (you don't miss it). The back cover of the cabinet covers almost the entire back, with a few slots to vent the heat from the tubes. One cool feature: instead of tweed or Tolex, this one's covered in cowhide. It's fuzzy! I'm giving it an 7 for features because it's not got fifteen channels or a master volume or reverb which someone, buit not me, might ask of it.

The best Fender amps you'll hear have body, bite, aren't noisy, and break up smoothly as you move toward power-tube distrotion. This is that. It's FAT, compliments of the dual speakers, but having one 10" in there adds some real bite that can be downplayed with the Treble control. The volume knobs are interactive, so even though you might be in the Bright channel, the Normal volume knob can be adjusted to thicken or thin the sound you're getting. The channels can also be "strapped" or cascaded by placing a guitar cable between the inputs, and that gives a very thick and hot sound, though not a particularly bright one. To my ear, any sound you've heard out of a good Fender amp you can coax from this one. With 6V6's, which is how it's set up now, I think it runs at about 20 watts, but it sounds more like 40-50 and seems to be very efficient. It can also be run on 6L6's which would add more headroom and volume, but certainly it has plenty of both now. And lo and behold, the tone controls actually WORK and are very useful and interactive. Lastly, the amp is almost totally noise-free. I play mostly bluesy and country-tinged stuff, and this amp has the perfect tone for me--believe me, I am never reaching for the non-existent reverb knob, since the sound is as big and sweet as can be just like it is.

This amp seems to be really well constructed. The cabinet is really tight and doesn't rattle, and the wiring was all done by hand and Robert Hudson has a great reputation for building things right. Neither I nor anybody I know gigs with backup amps--please! I can't imagine needing to carry more than a few tubes and fuses. I'll give it a 9 since it is all tube and things can go wrong.

Robert Hudson, the builder, lives near here in Cleveland, Tennessee. He has a reputation locally for getting things back within 24 hours. While not everyone has the luxury of being so close to the builder, I have heard that he respnds to emails quickly and is very service oriented. He also seems to know everything there is to know about combining different tubes, speakers, etc., to get the tone you want. i highly recommend dealing with him.

The best amp I ever owned prior to this one was a 64 Super Reverb. Great, huge tone, but it was heavy, noisy, and not the most reliable road warrior. This amp is perfect for me--it's small and light compared to a Twin or something, but it delevers the tone for days. it's just the right size and volume for club gigs and recording. I highly recommend buying one of Robert's amps or hiring him make your vintage Fender right.
