I built this amp last year. I would call this a difficult build compared to a deluxe or a slp 100. I put in a 3 button footswitch and a passive loop. I also put in a switch for OT impedance matching for 6v6 or 6l6. A lot of tones here.

Sound Quality : 10
I put in all of the dogears mods and promptly gave up on tweaking those areas. Stock the amp sounds really good. You won't walk into GC finding anything with this sound quality. With the dogears mods it is like magic. I also did the skyliner tonestack. I did keep the stock feedback resistor, but did rewire the presence pot. I felt smaller feedback resistor cut too much gain.
The tone quality reminds me of a matchless I played back in the early 90s. The amps don't sound like a matchless but the magic in the tone felt the same. Best amp I've played hands down.
I was really surprised at how much the jj 6v6s sound like 6l6s. I'm using a tung sol in v1 and jjs for the rest of the 12ax7s. I'm staying with the winged cs for the 6l6s.

Reliability : 9
I expect this thing to be bullet proof. Building it myself I've had my hands on every part. All top quality. I also know there are no cold solder joints, the lead dress is right, and the transformers are rated conservatively.

Moss can get really busy, probably gets a lot of emails and is sometimes slow to respond. It took a long time to get my amp. There were amp shows at the time and I'm sure Moss was busy. So I emailed Norm and was helped right away.

These are great amps. Us folks who get these covet the dumble tone of Ford or Carlton. If you get one of these and do the mods mentioned above you'll be really close. This fine piece of equipment will remind you of how important it is to work on your technique because you won't be able to blame the amp for being imperfect.
I remember demoing a fuchs once and was not nearly as impressed as I am with the tone of my dlite.
Great with strats. Really great with my les paul. And the sleeper is my Ibanez artcore - real brassy tone like a saxaphone.

Point to point, hand-wired, tube, 2-channel, 44Watt,W/ Footswitchable channel switching and boost, optional effects loop, tube or passive, custom voiced for lead or rhythm style or any style from jazz to metal with bias taps for on the fly power tube replacement, very versatile, capable of very loud SPL's and a dizzying array of available tones. It is a lean , mean giggin' machine based on the extremely hard to find amplifier made by the elusive and reclusive amp maker to the stars whose name rhymes with humble, of which he is not. This beauty is all wrapped in white tolex with a Bentley dashboard style burled wood front panel in head form. It just exudes class.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a tele and 4 different PRS's 2 solid bodies and 2 Hollow bodies. This amp brings out the best qualities in both single coil and humbucker equipped guitars. The clean channel is sparkling Black-face Fender-like which coaxes the best out of your individual style and your guitar allowing you to go from a western- bite to a thick jazz. Each note is individually articulated and has a nice warm bloom and blossom to it, with a natural sounding decay which you would swear is a natural reverb. I play this amp with virtually no added effects and it cuts through a crowded mix effortlessly.
The distortion channel is in a word, phenomenal. I have spent so much on assorted pedals and boards and different amps attemting to find this tone. My search is over this is the flat out best distortion I have ever heard and I love playing this amp!

Reliability : 10
This is a true piece of fine engineering and artfull architecture and I can honestly say that I trust this amp implicitly. It is extremely well built by some one who actually really cares about the player who will be using it. Actually, I built it myself, however Brown-Note will gladly customize a build for you.

I have had the honor of personally meeting both Moss and Norm, the brain trust behind Brown-Note, and I can tell you they are two of the nicest, most down to earth, electronic geniuses that you will ever know and they also are musicians who like you and me are looking for the best tone. They are totally supportive and treat everyone with dignity even when being asked a seemingly trivial question. Make friends with them and they may build you the best amp you have ever heard.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 40 plus years, I currently own 12 Amplifiers 7 of which I have built myself. I have been searching all my life for an amp like this and I have finally found it, my Holy Grail of tone. I am now completely spoiled and no other amp can match the sheer enjoyment of playing my D-Lite. If it were stolen I would hire Dog the bounty hunter to track down the nefarious individual responsible for the act and have him incarcerated in a Correctional Facility for the rest of his days. Seriously this amp is the secret to unbelievable guitar tone and now the secret is out. I am going to go play my guitar now.
