Punchy, lively, great cleans. At about noon on the volume, slight overdrive arrives with single coils, and a little earlier with humbuckers. Both single coils and humbuckers work very well. Amp distorts smoothly. Takes pedals well. Very clear and articulate.
For medium sized clubs, put bright volume up around noon for humbuckers and at about 2 o'clock for single coils. Great sound with slight overdrive. Kick in pedals to go farther, but they aren't really needed, they just give you added control.
You could run a patch between Normal and Bright, but I haven't messed with that. I prefer Bright for everything and have disabled the Normal by removing its tube (which, being a JAN, I want to save to use as a backup).
No mud with front humbuckers. Again, I must say that the articulation is astonishing!
The amp is totally quiet except when cranked, which elicit a slight hum.
I own a Buno Cowtipper 22, another amazing amp and great for practice and small clubs but underpowered for medium sized venues. The Tweedie Pie 35 overdrives better. is punchier, more articulate and works for small-to- mediums sized clubs. The Cowtipper is a little sweerer.
The Tweedy 35 is not overwhelmingly loud at 35 watts, like, say, a Dr. Z Maz 38 watt amp is, which used to knock my head off it was so loud.
Very balanced, smooth distortion.
Fenders can't compare to these Brunos.

I own two Brunos: This one and a Cowtipper 22. Emailed a question to Ultrasound about biasing the Cowtipper and never got a response. Gene is the sales guy at Ultrasound who handles customer questions for Tony Bruno, who is unreachable. I spoke with Gene on the phone to register my Cowtipper. (That's how they do it with Brunos.)
No phone number or email to Bruno on his Web site.
I registered the Tweedy 35 by email and got a response from a sales guy at Ultrasound (again, that's how you register Brunos).

This amp kills. I hate when people go on about finding a great amp because I've been through Fender Vibro King, a Dr. Z, a Victoria, a Fuchs, a Matchless, and a ValveTrain, and never quite found the sound, though I pretended for a while that I had.
So now I must be one of those annoying people who thinks they finally found the right amp for their music (I play blues and blues-based rock, and jazz). I've never written a glowing review before. And I have played for about 20 years.
I gigged the amp recently in a mid-sized club and the sound I wanted was there: punchy, articulate, great overdrive, and worked great with both my Les Paul and Strat. No other amp has so impressed me. If it's right, you know it in your gut.
I highly recommend Bruno amps if you want great cleans, subtle overdrive, and a quiet amp.
So even if their customer service sucks (which it may or may not, but so far I'm not impressed), Bruno amps are awesome and crush the competition.
