This is the simplest of the simplest pure valve amp I`ve tried. It`s just fantastic! I`t has a built in power amp attenuator, that cuts the signal to -20db. You get an amazing overdrive pushing out the volume knob.(it has one of these push-pull potentiometers on the volume knob) 30 watts of RAW power. Dead simple! I can`t give it a high rating because of simplicity, but for me it`s just what i need.

Sound Quality : 10
My main guitars is a Gibson SG Standard and a Fender strat 62 reissue. I use it with a marshall 4x12 cab, wich in my opinion isn`t the greatest for this amp. I`ve tried it with an open back AC 30 (just the speakers) and that sounded fantastic! very responsive.
My settings on the amp is "rawk". Just enough gain to push it when I hit my guitars hard, and make it sound quite gently(not exactly clean!) played softly. I use maily a gollmer the blues(swedish made overdrive) for my strat and an Ibanez TS 9 tubescreamer for my SG, A dunlop Wha, a stage tuner and a Boss DM 2 Delay. Its A quiet amp, a bit noisy when both overdrives are connected! (of course)

Reliability : No Opinion
I`ve bought it new(new old stock?) so I have no opinion here, but it`s built like a rock!!

What they wrote:
Hello Hans,

Thanks for writing and picking up a Retro Lead 30! We built only a handfull of the Retrolead series, maybe a couple of dozen at the most. Your amp is the second Retro 30 ever built.

The extra valve slot is for the Verbmaster 30 model that we used to build that shared the same chassis as the Retro 30.

The amp has a built in power amp attenuator, that cuts the signal to -20db. Pretty simple layout similar to the original Twinmaster we build that launched our company. Very responsive and touch sensitive.

Enjoy!

A comment to Price Paid:
I bought it for 1200 US$(8500 NOK) in Norway. The retail price was 2520 US$ ( 18000 NOK)

This is absolutely the holy grail for me! I`ve searched the last 12-15 years for my sound, and I`ve found it!
If there are anybody out there who is the owner of a retro lead 30, please contact me! As Scot from Budda says:"We built only a handful of the retrolead series"
