This is a basic amp and it was designed that way so it is not really fair to judge it on the lack of features. That being said, it does have a cool boost switch that kicks in a master volume so I give it props for that.

Sound Quality : 10
I love the sound, especially the clean sound. I have been playing my Parker Fly Mojo through it and I am getting great clean tones using both the single coil tap (neck pickup) and the piezo. The straight SD pups sound great in the middle setting. The OD tone is cool as well (very retro sounding) but I prefer a hotter, modern tone when playing that way and this amp is not designed for that. One thing I will add - if you get this amp, do not walk out of the store without the TRex Roommate Tube Reverb pedal with it. It is a match made in heaven for this amp (the TRex Roommate is one of the finest pedals I have ever heard but that is for another review).

Reliability : No Opinion
No opinion yet but it seems like it is build like a tank.

The folks at Carr are really nice and helpful. They are committed to quality build and customer service. I don't work there and they are not paying me to say this it is just what I think.

Overall Rating : 10
For what it is designed for, this amp is very cool and I love it. You will really be surprised at the size (very small) and the weight (seems heavy for something that small which give you extra confidence in the build quality). Not that the weight is a burden as it is a tiny thing, just that it is surprising when you like at the size. I love the clean sounds, especially for single coil and when coupled with the TRex Roommate. Plus this thing is just darn fun. I have a few other small bedroom amps and the don't come close to this (you really do get way you pay for).

New, 3 watt recording/practice amp. It uses a solid stae rectifier, two 12AX7 gain stages and an EL84 output tube; 10" hemp cone speaker. 1 input, three knobs, boost switch that activates the 'master' control. For an amp in this class, the controls and configuration are OK.

Sound Quality : 2
I have heard a Carr Mercury and thought that it sounded good but was pricey and louder than what I needed (I have a mid sized combo already) I bought this to fill a slot for a smaller amp.
This amp is perfect for the guys who want scooped mids, big bass response and clear highs. This is a very 60's 'Fenderish' amp.
If you have a very dark sounding guitar this might be what you need.
I found that the low end made my archtops howl with feedback and the lack of mids just wasn't a good sound for me. I only have P-90 equipped guitars. The clean headroom was good for a small amp but the full gain tone was a little too loose and unhinged for my taste. The tonality of EL84's might be to blame here. I have not found an amp, so far, that uses these tubes that suits me. I always like 6V6's but not that many builders of amps like this one are using them. There are plenty of Champ clones with 6V6's but clean headroom is not part of the Champ's vocabulary.

Reliability : 10
It looks like it could survive Earth re-entry with failed heat shields. All Carr's stuff is both beautifully made and expensive.

I have been playing since 1965. Jazz, Blues through archtops and thinlines. I wanted a small amp that had some headroom and enough volume for a drumerless combo. I have a few vintage amps and was looking for a new, high quality amp to take out for gigs, jams etc. This amp has some useful features and is loud enough but I just didn't like the sound.
