Single 12" open back cabinet. I bought a couple of them for use when I go to the studio so I can swap out different types of 12" speakers in them for recording. I didn't buy them for the eminence speakers in them. I bought them because they are very reasonably priced.

Sound Quality : 8
They sound fine.

Reliability : 4
I have a few complants. The T-nuts that attach the baffle board to the cabinet have pushed out a few times. Also they paint the inside of the cabinet after they install the screws that you mount the speaker on. So the speaker mounting nuts can end up binding up in the paint in the screw threads, causing the screw heads to back out into the grill cloth. These things can be fixed but it's not that much fun. I'm in and out of the cabinets much more than most people who buy them though.

Here's my beef with Carvin. Usually when I talk to a sales person on the phone I get the distinct impression that they think they are above the rest of the world. I'm tempted to say, "so you think you're a badass because you live in California and sell things over the phone for Carvin"? I just get tired of being talked down to by people that act bored and irritated that you called and bothered them.

Overall Rating : 7
I think I've already said it above.

This review is for an extension speaker cabinet only. It is loaded with the Carvin V12 speaker (12", 100-watt, 8 ohm). It is an open-back cabinet. One input jack, tweed covering. Pretty basic.

Sound Quality : 7
I compared the speaker to a Celestion Vintage 30. The Vintage 30 was loaded in a Mesa/Boogie Mk III Simul-class combo. I used that same amp to listen to the 112E. I expected the speaker to sound crappy (the whole cabinet was only $150, direct from Carvin) but it actually sounds OK. It is not a Vintage 30 but it did surprise me.

Reliability : No Opinion
Seems to be built well enough. It is pretty simple though. Not much to go wrong.

Haven't dealt with them in this area.

You could easily spend more for an UNLOADED tweed extension speaker cabinet. The VALUE here is the key. I have many extra 12" speakers lying around and I expected to have to use one of them. Celestion Vintage 30's sell for about $125 for just the speaker. But since the Carvin V12 sounds fine, I'll probably just keep it in the cabinet. An extra jack to make "daisy-chaining" easier would be nice but it really isn't needed.
